The Elder Lights: A dark fantasy adventure with romance: An assassin crosses over to the immortal realms in search of her lost sister. A vampire lord saves her from certain death but at what price?
I want to say a big thank you to Phillipa the author for sending me a review copy before release. First of all, this book was extremely fun. The first person narrative has a lot of charm, the FMC Aurora is full of London sass and wit, this really comes through in her thoughts and how she reacts to the ongoing plot. The writer does an excellent job of pairing humour with action heavy and tense scenes, you really get the feeling that this is definitely how the character would react in these sort of situations, making her a relatable lead for me. The FMC is an absolute badass who revels in violence and strives to stand up to the male characters who try to rule over her. The writer does a great job of retelling mythologies and using them to serve the lore of her book. The tome readings were a highlight for me.
The only reason I’m not giving this book 5 stars is due to pacing. There are a few instances throughout the book, where the pacing felt a little off. I would have liked to have read more about the training sequences and see more of the FMC’s relationship build with the main love interest as a lot of the connection does grow off page.
All in all, if you like great leading female characters, high action, immersive plots and dragons then I would definitely recommend this book to you!
I loved Phillipa's style of writing. I especially loved lily and Aurora's relationship. You can feel the inner turmoil of Aurora wanting to rescue her sister but knowing it's for a worse life. I felt so immersed in the whole story and could really imagine the world and characters. Can't wait for the next one
