A “Deliciously Dutch-centric” why choose fantasy with extra toppings!

Electrifying Awakening is set in the Netherlands, with gorgeous snippet references to the culture, landscape and architecture. Deliciously Dutch-centric is the term I’ve coined for Sara’s writing and characters. There’s an organic, down to earth approach and comedic value that just tickles me pink. And when I read this book I know that I am hearing the author’s voice in Juno, the FMC. Sassy, independent and Boss sum both women up… oh, and direct!
In true Dutch form there is a blunt open friendliness that is impossible not to be charmed by. And I really believe that you will learn something new just by reading Juno/Sara’s perspective.

This book is written as the first instalment to a series, and as such should be read with that in mind. Nothing gets resolved and packed away by the last page, if anything it’s starting to ramp up at that point because there’s still more to come.

I enjoyed the multiple POVs on offer as yet another layer at a time is added to each character, slowly but surely fleshing them out.

A slew of crime scenes and a homicide/trafficking case storyline plays out in the background for part of the book which really piqued my interest and took an even darker turn than expected… I was super pumped about this!

Three out of five of Juno’s Titans are introduced in book one with fragments of each backstory filtering through to broaden our understanding of their motivations. I was hard pressed as to who I liked the most… just when I thought I had a definite favourite something occurred to make another and then another take top spot in my head and heart. Overall though, I am delighted with each in their own way. There was a point I even unexpectedly cried my little black heart out over a scene/series of events connected to one Titan… Sara consoled me though.

There’s spicy smut sprinkled throughout, mostly relevant to the bonding between the MCs. Each is hot in its own way, and I cannot and will not choose between them! Then there’s the “Queer Cheer” element— Juno’s amazeballs BFF’s who are always there with bells on when a girl’s in need of a hard drink and some support. I loved the ease and normalcy around LGBTQIA+ representation in Sara’s writing— it’s not just a “token” addition to the story, it’s just facts… these people are here and they’re queer and it’s no big deal because love is love!

At this point, I’ve read this book that many times in finite detail and am in love with each of the characters… even some rando side ones that popped in that I’m now dying for them to make appearances in future books! There’s a lot of heart and love that’s gone into this book and it’s only just a taster for what’s to come.

So strap yourselves in and let’s go on a journey with Juno and the guys to other worlds beyond the veils✨

Book club review, all DNF 25-35%

Let us start of by saying we REALLY wanted to like this book. We are all Dutch residents living in the South of the country, so a romantasy book by a Dutch author set in the city of Utrecht seemed very appealing to us. Paired with a main character who was not a starving 17 y/o, with kids, married and a bubbly personality, it excited us that we seemed to actually have a unique premise.

When the books arrived, we were all very pleasantly surprised with the packaging and attention to detail. Dried flowers, handwritten notes, some fun extra stickers and book markers all made it a cute experience and we were all ready to dive into the world of June the High Nymph.

Boy were we in for a real clusterfuck of a book.

Let's talk about the writing style. The level of English is all over the place. The constant use of metaphoric language and random insertion of thesaurus level wording does not hide the several misspellings, the inconsistent syntax and grammatical errors. Switching present and past tenses, first and third person nouns and the overall disorienting language structures made the story very hard to follow, resulting in having to reread several pages to know what the crapadoodle was going on. Also overall the worst case of all tell, no show we have EVER seen.

Next we have the story and general ambience of the book. To say this is a good representation of Dutch culture is offensive. All the things she represents as "typically Dutch" are untrue or wildly exaggerated, and all the things she could use to make it actually Dutch she doesn't use. Aditionally, we know it's a fantasy book, but the scenario's that were supposed to be normal everyday life were completly unrealistic where none of the characters reacted in an even close to conventional way. The story was immediatly written as high stakes with extreme urgency, but even after more than a 100 pages, there was not one ounce more of information provided to the reader. This left us with the feeling of a plot that was not going anywhere.

And last but certainly not least, the characters. There is only one word to describe this assemble of personalities: obnoxious. Each character is over the top, in your face and unapologetically so. In a world where everyone is quirky and different, the main character energy is absurdly high. Especially June is the pinnacle of a rude pick me girl and inexplicably, everyone LOVES her because of it. And just when you thought you were allowed to dislike the main character, don't worry, she has kids that are inserted as side characters just so serve as tokens to show the inherent wholesomeness of June. Throw in the casual sexual harassment, the screaming red flags and the terrible stereotypes, and you got yourself a cast of just overall horrible people.

Don't believe us? Here is a quote that sums it up:
"Yes, I am quirky. Extremely, if I'm being honest. But I am happily me and I refuse to buckle even a little bit, just because some jackass in a fancy tight suit feels I should. Get used to it, suck it up! Or throw me out, if you dare."

We will choose to throw you out June. 0/10 would not recommend.

P.S.: This review probably had more editing than the book. Just saying.

In case the author reads this: we saw the passion and effort you put into it and genuinly liked the rough draft of your story. Please get a good editor and you might create something beautiful.

This is such a fantastic read, a really unique fantasy book with a kick-ass MFC!
Juno, a smart-mouthed detective is about to have her whole existence thrown into question…. Something’s changed, she can’t explain it and definitely doesn’t understand it. How can she explain the “purple jitters” to her husband Jay?
Becoming a High Nymph was not on Juno’s to do list! Along with finding her Titans, learning to harness her magic, protect her family, defeat the darkness and restore the balance…. All in a days work hey?!
With everything moving so quickly can Juno do what is needed? No spoilers!
This story will have you hooked from the get-go. Every page is packed with beautiful details, the hilarious internal monologue of Juno, tons of spice and it will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what the hell could possibly happen next?! I love the connection between Juno & Jay. I love how completely different her titans are in every sense of the word. It’s hilarious, heart wrenching and will make you want to cheer out loud for Juno and her team. This is Book One of the series and I can’t wait for Book Two!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sara Petrie’s storytelling is marked by well-crafted character development, the dual pov was a bit confusing thou, but I was still immersed into the world and didn’t want to leave. The story of Juno was captivating. The book does end in a cliffhanger, and I don’t have the next one available. How am I going to manage with the waiting now? 😫

Boekrecensie: Electrifying Awakening

Auteur: Sara Petrie
Beoordeling: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

This book screams Netflix series potential! With multiple POVs, rich character development, and an extensive plot that weaves mystery, magic, and mom life—it’s a wild ride from start to finish.

At first, the different POVs were a bit confusing, but once you settle in, the layered storytelling really shines. Juno, FMC, is a blunt, quirky detective who's juggling high-stakes cases, being a wife and mom, and… apparently being a hidden High Nymph with powers that could implode her if not unleashed.

Her current case involving sex trafficking is already intense, but strange things keep happening—and she starts questioning her sanity… until she discovers the truth about her powers and her connection to five Titans (aka fated mates). In this first book, she finds three of them, but there's still a long road ahead. Oh, and did I mention the spice? Because yes, there’s tension, temptation, and chemistry sizzling off the page.

Juno’s struggle to stay grounded while her world unravels makes her incredibly relatable, even as the plot dives deep into the supernatural. This book ends on a cliffhanger and definitely sets the stage for more chaos and magic to come!

If you're into urban fantasy with spice, mystery, and a badass heroine trying to do it all—add this to your TBR.

I met Sara Petrie at Novio Magica and had my copy of Electrifying Awakening personally signed, which made it extra special. I couldn’t wait to dive in, and the story did not disappoint.🥰

I loved how the book is set in the Netherlands. It felt familiar, yet the supernatural elements added something completely new and exciting. The combination of local settings with fantasy made it feel fresh and unique.

Juno’s story really pulled me in. Discovering that she’s a high nymph was such a cool twist, and her bond with the Titans was intense and compelling. The romance and yes, the spice, was well written and added depth to the characters without overshadowing the plot.

Sara’s writing style is smooth and very readable. It flows naturally and makes it easy to keep turning pages (and lose track of time). I flew through the book.

Electrifying Awakening is a unique, fast paced urban fantasy with great characters, strong emotions, and just the right amount of heat. Can’t wait to see where Juno’s story goes next! ❤️

Such a fun and unique story! I loved reading in Juno’s pov with all of her crazy inner (and outer) ramblings. She’s such a cool character that I totally see myself being besties with- and that’s not just because I share a name with her bestie.

Having her whole world turned upside down with her awakening was such a fun ride. And her Titans?! 😍 Can’t wait to discover more there! I did find myself lost a bit, especially at the beginning. I almost wish this book could have been 2 books in order to give me more back story on the characters and the fantasy world. But, Juno was just as confused as me, so I went with it!

Overall, great book!

This was exactly what I needed to read to get out of my reading slump! Sara writes easy flowing chapters, with multi pov and the first 5 or 6 chapters I had some difficulty following the chaos that was Juno's life, but after that, WOW!

The way everything comes together in the book and you discover the layered plot twists as you go is AMAZING! And the way the MCs come to life as you learn so much about them. makes you want them so much more... so when the spice hits - it's gooooood!

I binged the first book until 2am and started binding the five straight away the next day! (which I already finished as well - so I can't wait for soaring high!)

I ADORED this book. A fmc who is also a mother and married was so refreshing. Juno felt like a very real character with depth, especially when it came to the ‘why choose,’ but married portion of Juno’s story as she discovered her first titans. Juno’s ‘queer cheer’ friends brought some charming quirkiness without the lgbtq aspects feeling like token characters. The only thing that confused me a bit was the sudden shifts in POV’s, but other than that I very much look forward to the next installment in Juno and her titans’ story.

!!!!!!!!!!! The fact that I can’t insert a gif of someone melting into nothingness is criminal!!!!!!!! I’m so honored to have connected with Sara and have been given the opportunity to dive in to what I know is going to be an EPIC SERIES and I cannot wait to dive on in to book 2.

Between the why choose, an absolutely badass FMC, and the writing that pulled me in from the beginning, it is NO surprise that I’m hooked. ALSO THAT COVER?!?? Thank you thank you thank you. I’m blessed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️| 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Electrifying Awakening is an original and immersive fantasy filled with magic, sensuality, and powerful feminine energy. The story follows Juno, a chaotic yet compelling main character who gradually discovers her inner strength. A major turning point comes when her nymph awakens, around 30% into the book. from there, the pacing becomes smooth and engaging.

✨ What I loved:
• The relationship between Juno and her titans was enjoyable and well-developed. Their dynamic gave emotional depth and kept me invested.
• The world feels unique and intentionally feminine, adding to the atmosphere and appeal of the story.
• The open relationship dynamic, while initially challenging for me (especially since Juno is married with children), is handled with care. It’s clear that mutual consent is present, which made it feel much more grounded and respectful.

🌀 A few constructive notes:
• I struggled at first with the open relationship aspect. Given that Juno has a family, I needed a bit more emotional context early on. That said, as the story progressed, the emotional clarity and mutual understanding between characters became evident and eased that tension.
• Some descriptions were a bit too detailed for my taste, which occasionally distracted from the story.
• Juno’s chaotic nature is very present throughout the book. While it adds realism, it did make it harder for me to fully connect with her in the beginning.

💬 Final thoughts:
Despite a slightly rocky start, Electrifying Awakening finds its rhythm and blossoms into an original, steamy, and surprising story. The worldbuilding is creative, and the characters linger in your mind. I’m definitely curious to see how the journey continues!

I loved this book from start to finish! It's been a while since I've read an urban fantasy, and what a refreshing change it was!
The FMC, Juno, is a sassy badass detective, but I love even more that she is also a mother to 3, a loving wife and, like me, an absolute overthinker. I found her to be such a believable character. I laughed often at her chaotic thought processes (often a bit sarcastic and self-deprecating at times) and appreciated her ability to find humour in all kinds of moments. I could relate to the ever-present inner dialogue and imagine myself reacting similarly about the frequent wtf situations.
Living your very normal life and then discovering you are actually magical (I can only dream!) and pre-destined to be the saviour of a number of realms and having to stumble through that? It makes all of Juno's reactions and responses very believable.

I adore the Queer Cheer (who doesn't love a crew of ride-or-die friends who have your back in a heartbeat) and Juno's evolving group of Titans. The why-choose aspect felt very decadent given that she's happily married, but the context of being THE high nymph and the way her magic is fed makes it relevant and... I loved it!

The changing POVs didn't detract for me at all - if anything, I enjoyed the layers added to each character as the story and relationships between the MCs evolved. I found myself wanting to know more about each of the MCs. The escalation towards the end was addictive and I found myself begrudgingly putting the book down at nearly 2am with 70 odd pages to go only due to a very early start the next morning. For me, that's the sign of a book that has me hooked.

I loved the ending and now am eagerly awaiting Book 2 to find what happens next!

This book for me has its ups and downs.

The main character, Juno, I adore. A strong woman with a powerful mind and at start an amazing job, turns high nymph was an interesting turn but I love the fact that she remains a powerful woman throughout the book.

Also the whole open relationship/poly situation was very interesting, not something I have read before in a book! It is fun to learn about different relationships outside of the norm and being told in a good way and handled respectfully.

Overall I liked the characters, their flaws as well haha.

One thing I didn’t love about the book, was that (for me) it had too much detailed spice. Because of the way Juno ‘feeds’, the spicy scenes weren’t spicy anymore after a few. This made these parts a little harder to read through the last 3rd of the book.
And maybe for me it was a little too ‘stretched out’, I was invested but at some point had the feeling ‘when is the next exciting thing happening?’.

However, I’m committed and do want to know how it ends so I’m definitely reading part two! (Which I already have 😁)

This book had me stuck!
The first 100 pages I really needed to get into the stoey. But after that it was amazing. I love how the writer was able to put in so much queer, and normalise it as it should! Nathan is my fave. And Rico second, althrough Jay is really a handsome he is too cutesy for me haha! So there is enough to choose from. And you don't get bored in the book because of all those man! I really hope Anne gets something in book 2. I kinda feel like she was left out sometimes! And the cliff hanger in the end! waajooooo amazing! I cannot wait to read the second book

Kept me locked in

This fantasy includes a guardian, a newborn vampire, and a dragon shifter. All of whom are smoking hot, supportive, and protective alphas.
The FMC, Juno, is strong-willed, married mother to 3, and an overall badass. She's complex. She gives me neurodivergent vibes. She also seems to struggle with some anxiety, which makes her so relatable.
I adore the Queer Cheer. They're such an important part of June's support system!
I can't wait to see what happens next and to discover the remaining 2 Titans. I'm curious about who Evan is and how he fits into everything. I'm also curious about the blood witch.

Ahhhh I just have so many questions!! I need more!

The dual POV's took some getting used to, for me. The changing of tense used was a struggle at first but it got easier as I continued.

Otherwise, I know some people struggle with character and world-building. This book is full of all of that. We get a lot of background on the characters and TONS of super descriptive world building details. I personally love all of that because when I read, it plays out in my head like a movie. I visualize it all. This was a great, fun read for me. I really look forward to the rest of the series!

As a women's fiction author, I often find myself drawn to emotional arcs and inner strength of female protagonists— Electrifying Awakening delivered all of that in a gorgeously imagined fantasy setting. Every chapter offered something new: a twist, a creature, or a surprising turn that kept me absorbed to the last page.

The standout for me was Juno, the main character. She’s quirky, sharp, and written with such a distinct voice that I actually found myself repeating some of her trademark sayings in real life! It’s rare to find a fantasy heroine who feels this alive on the page—flawed, funny, and fiercely human. Her emotional journey is what anchored the novel for me. Amid all the magic, chaos, and creatures, Juno's personal growth felt real and relatable.

And speaking of creatures—this author has a knack for worldbuilding that doesn’t just rely on familiar fantasy tropes. The array of fantastical beings woven into the story brought a fresh energy to the plot. Many of them appeared as delightful (and sometimes dramatic!) surprises, which only heightened my anticipation as I read on.

If you love a strong female lead and hot smutty scenes in a fantasy world full of surprises, Electrifying Awakening is well worth your time. I loved every moment.

This story focuses on Juno and her journey after discovering she is the key to prophecy, which foretells an impending reign of darkness unless she binds her Titans and reclaims her power. I enjoyed this story and the intricate mythos was unique. However, I became distracted by the changes in POV going from 1st person to 3rd person (at times mid-chapter). The ending does leave you wanting to know what happens next, and I look forward to the next book.

I loved this book! The fmc is a badass and has a great sense of humour. I loved the relationship between her and her friends (queer representation) and the references to Dutch culture and landscape. The author found a great way to deal with sexuality and to highlight the importance of consent. However, I was a bit confused by the magic system, it felt a bit chaotic at times which could also be due to the fact that there are different pov's.

I'm really looking forward to reading book 2!

4.5 ⭐️

As soon as I saw the cover for this beauty I had to check it out. I was delighted when I saw the blurb was urban fantasy with a nymph. I love fae but nymphs are something that aren't done very often (or at least not that I've read) so I was extra intrigued.

Enter Juno. Juno is a detective and mother of 3 whose entire life is turned upside down when she finds out she's a High Nymph and part of a prophecy to end the Titans. Juno is amazing, kick ass, cooky and would totally be my bestie in real life.

I absolutely loved her reactions to finding out she's this magic being. Jay was awesome and their relationship is the best! Maybe too good though 😜 I Struggled a bit with the why choose element because I just love Jay and Juno so much. Although it's pretty cool that she has to bind with her 5 Titans and it makes sense for a nymph. Just takes me some getting used to with my monogamous brain. Rico is such an interesting character, as is Green eyes.

One of my favourite things, other than Juno, is all the fantastic and hilarious phrases in the book. I'm not sure if it's a Dutch thing, a Sara thing or a both but I loved it and it had me laughing a lot.

I was torn between a 4 or 5 star rating so went 4.5 just because I found some bits repetitive.

I'm so excited to read the second one and find out what's in store next for Juno.

"Electrifying Awakening" is a slow-burn Urban-Fantasy-Romance, filled with plenty of spice. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the magic system, as well as the worldbuilding. The connections between the characters were intense and deeply emotional. I always appreciate extra smutty content, especially when it contributes to the plot and character development.

This novel is rich with declarations of love—love for partners, love for family, and love for deep connections in life. Although the writing and storytelling were generally good, I occasionally felt confused by the direction of the plot. The story gave me a lot while leaving me wanting more. The ending, in particular, left me eager to see where our lovely characters would go next. I believe that book two will surpass book one in many ways.

This book follows Juno, a wife, a mother, but also a nymph. That last part is not known yet by Juno at the start of the book. The book starts in The Netherlands, very fun to read as a Dutchy. Juno is a detective and tries to solve a murder case. This is what sets the backdrop for the story.

This book is part of a 3 book series, and therefor there is nothing really resolved. The book isn't the fastest in it's pace because the story is just starting. Keep that in mind reading it.

This is a romance that beautifully weaves in supernatural elements to create a unique experience. The story introduces a world where certain characters possess extraordinary abilities tied to energy, electricity, and heightened senses. These abilities aren’t just a backdrop they play a meaningful role in how the characters connect, communicate, and experience their emotions.

The supernatural aspects add an intriguing layer to the romance, that is happening between Juno and her titans. Making the emotional and physical chemistry between the characters feel even more intense and dynamic. Imagine the thrill of sparks flying as the characters navigate their feelings and the challenges that come with their unique gifts.

Sara Petrie does a fantastic job of blending all elements seamlessly into the story, creating a world that feels magical and urban. The result is a romance that’s not only emotionally charged but also creatively fresh, offering a delightful twist on the typical love story.

Finished in one go! Sara's writing is so captivating, I couldn't put the book down. She switches between pov's flawlessly, it was like I was sitting next to Juno and her men.

The build-up in the book is insane. Just like Juno, I felt overwhelmed with all that happens in the beginning - which made me cry alongside her. My favorite MMC is Jay - her husband, and I totally love how Sara made this whole "married and why choose thing" work! It's intriguing and well done - I gobbled up their apparent love and unwavering trust. Also love how everyday doubts were astutely portrayed in their marriage. Made it so realistic.

Then the Queer Cheer. What can I say: where do I sign up?! The feeling of wholesome love between those friends make me ache to be part of their quaint little group. I've received their unicorn logo & it's proudly decorating my laptop! Yay for the Queer Cheer :D

Cannot wait for Binding the Five. Hope it leaves me just as breathless as this debut!

My friend Joyce recommended this to me and as I'm from Berlin I loved reading about the dragon shifter from Berlin! I love everything about him - his grouch, his muscular build (drool!) and he's got such a sad background story it makes you understand why he is so grouchy and protective of his heart. and the way he takes control... YES PLEASE!

Loved this book so much! it only took me 3 days to read & love how banter and funny jokes are used throughout the book to break the tension of some really anxious situations and dark themes.

can't wait to finish this trilogy! highly recommend.

This book is a mess. It needs 7 rounds of review. It's clunky, with tons of grammatical errors, and it reads somewhat pedestrian. The story is very cool, but it was hard to understand since there were so many problems, from changes between 1st and 3rd person, to changes in POV inside the same chapter, to font sizes changing out of nowhere. Not to mention punctuation, wrong words, tiring repetition of expressions/words "Crapadoodle" 😒😩🥲, and misspelling misfortunes. I only made myself finish because I bought the book. I’m sorry, but this is in no way ready for publication. I applaud the author for the ideas, but it was impossible to enjoy them.
