She can't imagine she'll ever trust anyone enough to fall in love.

Until she meets a protective vampire who can't imagine the rest of his life without his mate.

I’m having to rethink my life. I’m a thirty-eight-year-old woman who should be in her prime. Instead, I’m dodging guys who zero in on me like a heat-seeking missile, and avoiding going outside because people latch onto me faster than a kid in a candy store latches onto candy.

There’s something very wrong with me. Everyone I come into contact with becomes obsessed with me, and not the good kind of obsessed. The kind that has me hiding out at police stations until it’s safe to go home, obsessed. I’m tired of living my life this way. Tired of the looks, the blank stares in people’s eyes when they look at me, as if there’s something in my genetic makeup that takes over their rational thoughts, and I’m tired of being alone.

I want a life and a family. I want Saturday barbecues, toddlers running through my house creating chaos, and a spouse who adores me. Am I asking too much? I don’t think I am.

Fed up with the disaster that is my life, I do a deep dive online to see if there are rumors of others like me, and I somehow end up on the Kamaria, Solace Cruise Lines flagship. Rumors abound about Solace Cruise Lines, specifically it’s super rich, yet mysterious owner, Sebastian Solace, and his fur baby, Kazi.

Well, it turns out that Kazi is, in fact, a lion. And Sebastian is a suave, too handsome for his own good, vampire. And the luxurious ship I’m on? It’s full of dangerous paranormals.

Am I nervous?

Heck, yes!

But I’m not giving up. Because someone on this floating tin can must be able to tell me what I am, and I’m not leaving until I find out.

Is it possible to research what I am, avoid the paranormals and humans who fall under my spell, and not fall in love with the enigmatic Sebastian Solace who’s taken a marked interest in me?

No.

No it is not.

And by the end of all of this, I just might decide that a cruise ship is the best place for me after all.

My Moonhaven World Romance series is set in the same world as my Moonhaven Cove books, only with a wider geographical scope. These books feature tons of humor, clean yet swoony romance, and characters you'll fall in love with. Welcome to Moonhaven!

Dusty Rose writes fantasy and paranormal romance.

She has two wonderful adult children and lives in a sleepy little town in California. She started writing at five years old, and hasn’t wanted to stop since. She’s lived here, there, and everywhere, but mostly she’s lived within the pages of a good book. At any moment, she expects a dragon to come and choose her as their rider.

And of course she’d say yes.

I am stumped for the first time how to write a review because this was like not anything I ever read before and truthfully, this was just what I needed this week to escape the craziness of all that is happening in today's world.

I am not a big fan of Paranormal romances because I don’t understand any of it but the blurb caught my attention and it promised (and delivered!) humor so that is what I was in the mood for.

It's a PG read which author clearly states but I wanted just a little more sexy times with a BIG finish (if you know what I mean 😏) in the end. So if you are expecting sexy times or drama lama, not going to find it here other than a hot kiss here & there and a little suspense.

Plot: Grace is a Siren who has been living her entire life (I think she’s in her 20’s) being chased by men and never knew why. She attracts unwanted attention wherever she goes so she is pretty much a recluse because of the drama it entails. Her adopted Mother who is a hoot BTW, home schooled her so she doesn’t have much experience with people and is also a very accomplished paranormal romance writer.

So wanting to understand who she is, she comes across a cruise ship that caters to paranormal world and it’s there she meets Hero, Sebastian – a 400 year old Vampire who owns the cruise ship and falls instantly in love with him and him with her.

Since all that I knew about Vampires is from my favorite TV show “Moonlight”, “True Blood” and ever popular “Twilight”, Sebastian here is slightly different as he eats food, stays outside in hot weather with no problem, has kids, etc. He is an old vampire who doesn’t feed on people and has never fallen in love or had a mate. His mate is heroine and he spent the entire story wooing her because she wanted to develop a deep friendship first and then get married and have kids. And that’s what they did. Loved the getting to know each other and taking it slow (even if it was granny style slow for me!)

Sebastian also has a fur baby (aka Lion) by the name of Kazi who never leaves heroine’s side and a BFF by the name of Rafe who is a hoot. I want his story! She also has someone on board who is trying to kill her and Sebastian, Kazi, Rafe and her security guard, Micaela, were constantly on guard to save her (which IMO they did a bad job since she was constantly in danger and hurt!🤪).

Anyway, this is a light and funny read that doesn’t need brain cells. In fact, my brain cells took a temporary leave of absence for this and I was okay with that. 😂 So I recommend for anyone who can suspend reality and just go with the flow and enjoy it for what it is because MCs literally fall in love from first sight but nothing romantic happens other than a few kisses and a lot of cute moments with Hero trying to show his devotion to her and give her everything she wants.🥰 In the end they get their HEA and there’s a Bonus Chapter that you must read if you pick this up! So cute!

Safety:

Hero not a Manho. He said he never fell in love with anyone. He has been with other Sirens in the past but never had the feelings he experienced with heroine and he knows pretty quickly that she is his mate.

Heroine said she tried to date but it never went anywhere because men tended to fall in love with her quickly (even married ones!) and she avoided them.

HEA, married with a baby and Bonus Epilogue that is a MUST read!

Some things left open ended that I wanted closure on like

LOVED IT!

This was such a cute RomCom and I was entertained throughout the whole book! Grace and Sebastian’s romance was so well done! Both are super lovable characters and I loved the connection to the Moonhaven series! If you love soul-mates, no spice romance, mystery, lots of humorous moments, and lovable characters, you have to read this book now!

Reader’s Notes:

*Series or Connected Books?* this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

*Point Of View:* mainly Grace with sections from Sebastian

*Any Cursing Or Possibly Offensive Language?* there are about two mentions of characters cursing, however no curse words are used on page

*Romance?* Yes, just kisses.

-there is some innuendo/suggestive remarks as well as brief remarks of wanting more with each other

*Things To Know:*

–Grace faces unwanted attention & harassment due to being a siren (people are drawn to her and sometimes they won’t take no as an answer)

-there are a few attempts on Grace’s life during the story which result in injuries as well as an almost fatal attempt (it is briefly mentioned that she has a seizure before being saved from death)

Review:

This was my first read from Dusty Rose and overall I really enjoyed it!

I loved getting to know Dusty Rose’s paranormal world mainly through the eyes of someone who didn’t really know anything about it (Grace) so we could learn about it together! Grace was such a sweet character and I loved that she found a group of friends on her trip. I loved getting to know Sebastian through Grace and through his moments narrating. I loved how protective he was of Grace and that his crew also became protective of her. And the romance the developed between them was cute! I loved that Sebastian wanted to go at Grace’s pace, even when she ended up regretting putting the breaks on how fast they were going together. I think my absolute favorite character in the book was Sebastian’s lion – Kazi – though! He had such character in everything he did and was just as protective of Grace as Sebastian was.

I’m very interested in reading more of Dusty Rose’s books in the future!

Summary:

Grace has always wanted the picture perfect life with a husband and their children. But something has always seemed off with her. And that’s not putting herself down, it’s just fact. Because what normal date doesn’t make it to date number two due to the guy always being further enamored with her than they should be at that point of their relationship. Or is way more forward than anyone should be on a first date. Even when Grace doesn’t go out looking for love, people just gravitate towards her. It’s unnatural. But despite the unfortunate circumstances, Grace isn’t willing to stay hidden all her life. Taking herself on a cruise will lessen the effect she has on others or at least give her a chance at being normal, right?

Sebastian is a vampire and has been around long enough to recognize other paranormals fairly easily, so when a strong siren boards his ship he knows it without meeting them first. But when he gets close to her and finds that her powers almost overpower his own sense, Sebastian discovers her to be something he’d never thought he’d encounter: his mate. With his control, Sebastian doesn’t fall over himself for her but their connection just might make him do anything for the woman who’s caught his eye. Even when it means introducing her to the world she’s never known and doing everything in his power to protect her from the effects of her own power.

Dusty Rose has gifted us a shimmering, heart-steadying paranormal romance that hums with quiet yearning and resounding tenderness. Midnight Serenade may be about vampires, sirens, and shape-shifting mountain lions, but at its core, this is a deeply human story about identity, isolation, and the aching hope of finally being seen.

Our heroine, Grace—thirty-eight, exhausted, and frayed at the edges from a life haunted by unwanted obsession—could have easily come off as a passive damsel, but she doesn’t. She’s smart, self-aware, and gorgeously weary. The kind of woman who’s been through enough to mistrust happiness when it knocks on her door… or, in this case, is the captain of a paranormal cruise ship.

And then there’s Sebastian Solace. Cinnamon-roll energy wrapped in centuries-old layers of gentlemanly restraint. The way he adores her, quietly and reverently, isn’t just swoon-worthy, it’s healing. There’s something uniquely satisfying about a vampire who doesn’t try to dominate or tame, but instead protects, listens, and waits. His love doesn’t ask for anything but trust, and it unfolds like poetry in motion.

The chemistry? Off the charts in that delicious slow-burn, brush-of-fingers, what-does-this-mean kind of way. And the setting—a ship full of paranormals with a lion for a bodyguard—delivers just enough whimsy and worldbuilding to keep the fantasy alive without overwhelming the central romance.

But it’s the emotional undercurrent beneath the story that truly shines. Dusty Rose writes loneliness with grace, longing with restraint, and connection with such a soft, sure hand that by the end, I didn’t just believe in the romance—I ached for it.

A lyrical, low-heat paranormal romance that feels like being sung to sleep by someone who’s waited centuries just to hold you. Midnight Serenade is for every woman ...who has ever wondered if she’s too strange to be loved. The answer, it turns out, is no. Not too strange. Just not yet understood.

Wondrous

I am forever grateful and indebted to the writers who offer one of their books for free or free through Kindle Unlimited.

This Writer? Oh! Such talent and story weaving skill! I am ready to reread this book right now simply because it was such a joy to read the first time. I am a prolific reader with a small book budget, so only a handful of writers are on my "definite buys" list, which now includes Writer Dusty Rose.

It has humor; passion and love *without* erotica; paranormal people; great dialogue; well done pacing; a main character discovering and exploring their paranormal abilities; plot twists; insta-awareness but not insta-knowing or insta-love; and quietly woven in are how these people live their values.

Those values fuel the character and plot development. One "values" theme is that people choose—and are responsible for their choices.
There is an unexpected choice offered to Grace's mother. It was a fine bit of real life when her mom opted to not make a decision immediately, and this is left open through the end of the book. Sebastian, too, has a very serious decision to make in a crisis situation. His unexpected, compassionate choice epitomizes the worth of a choice. Throughout the book we see the difference people's choices make in their own lives and in the lives of others.

Also, keep an eye out for some awesome sea life, especially one grand sea turtle!

My thanks to Writer Dusty Rose, and to her team—beta readers, proofreaders, et al—for this book.

Happy reading!

DNF. I was so excited, it seemed like a paranormal book with a caring male, not an alpha *sshole, and an almost middle-aged woman with a mystery to solve.

Unfortunately, the book read like the fantasy of a 16-year old instead of a 38-year old mature woman. All the boys just love her, are drawn to her and fell over their feet to get to her.

Even knowing this and apparently hiding for 20 years in her house because of it, she decided its a good idea to parade in a swimming costume on a ship with thousands of males on board. <*eye roll*> Then acted all woe-is-me and called for MALES to come and rescue her. Which they promptly did.

She's apparently shy, but sang a sultry, seductive song on her first night, sat on the lap of a man she doesn't know and then kissed him.

She know paranormals exist, but pretended its an overwhelming shock to be told. Then without getting to know this possibly dangerous world, she promptly invites her MOTHER to the ship. On her holiday. With a potential LOVE interest onboard. I could just shake my head in astonishment.

Then, she went for a dip in the sea and the FISHES also LOVE her. Are drawn to her. And think she's just fabulous. Just like the lion on board (yes, a freaking LION). I live in Africa. Lions are NOT kitty kats. Never ever think you can treat a lion like a kitten. 😳

I was looking forward to a mature almost 40-year old's mystery story. Not the wet dream of a 16 year old. Where everyone in your world just hang onto your every word. Laugh when you laugh. Jump when you say jump. And think you are God's greatest gift to all men. 🙄

This was a pretty interesting book. I really liked Grace's spunk throughout the uncertainty of her life. Her relationship with her mom was really awesome. Sebastian's super respectful and willing to wait for her, which I appreciated. Of course, Kazi (the mountain lion) was sooo cute! He's my favorite character in this series, haha. If he had not been in the book, I doubt I would have enjoyed this as much as I did.

This was my first Dusty Rose book, and I can't wait to check out the rest of this series! The characters have sufficient depth, especially for such a short book (only 18-ish chapters), and I liked how I was able to read through it pretty quickly without losing sight of the characters' backgrounds.

Content: Clean. No explicit scenes or curse words. This book does focus a lot on the physical attraction side, but it's still more emotionally-oriented. If you've read Melanie Jacobson or Shari Tapscott books, then the spice of this book is about the same level. There are a few sex innuendoes, and the FMC is a siren, so of course men flock to her wherever she goes (but she doesn't take advantage of that).

This cozy romance takes place on the Kamaria, a cruise ship owned by Sebastian Solace. Grace Liora is looking for answers about what she is. What she knows is that she seems unusually attractive to some people. She has found herself housebound to get away from unwanted attention. Luckily, her career as a writer of paranormal romances lets her stay at home. She finally finds the Solace Cruise lines trip and hopes that, since it is rumored to be owned by paranormals, she will be able to find some answers about herself.

Sebastian Solace is a 400+ year old vampire who owns Solace Lines. When he first meets Grace, his is also drawn to her. He soon comes to believe that she is the mate who has been fated to be his. But Grace wants to take things slow. She isn't used to dating and romance.

The two have some lovely adventures on tropical islands and with the ocean wildlife interspersed by times of great danger since it seems Grace has attracted a stalker who wants her dead.

This was a sweet and engaging story.

So cute!

Midnight Serenade was such a good book! And the best part of all? No third act breakup. Thank you, Dusty Rose!
Grace is so sweet and easy to root for, hoping she'll be able to come to terms with her paranormal life and with Sebastien, the man who loves her. The story was engaging, and the side characters were a lot of fun--who wouldn't want a 73yo mama razzing you and carrying around a baseball bat to keep you safe?
No swearing, no sex scenes, and the romance was so satisfying with heated gazes and swoony kisses. Thanks for another clean romance, Dusty, and I look forward to reading more in the Moonhaven World series!

clean paranormal with good drama

I just discovered this author and blew through her books on audible.
I think there is where a vin diagram is handy: this sweet book is the sweet spot of romance, paranormal, good drama/plot and clean.
I love the characters. I love how the FMC researches and pursues answers for herself.
The MMC is amazing- a great book boyfriend.
Rafe though. Yeah, he’s my favorite. Great banter. Good mystery. Mentions The King of the Vampires and his consort (they come aboard later- in book 4 of the Mooncove series I think).
This is a sweet romance with some good kissing scenes and, well, a murderer.
Great quick read

Not a fan

I did not finish this book. I rarely abandon a novel partway through Unfortunately this book felt so stand-alone that it wasn’t very exciting. The romance starts off at first sight. So no mystery there. The Heroine recaps her dilemma mentally too often rather than the reader seeing it in action. I’m over 1/3 of the way through and am still waiting for the action to turn. I’m certain it is coming but I have abandoned trying to get to it.
The writing is good and the concept is adorable there just wasn’t enough story to hold my interest.

It was okay. Not much depth to characters. He was a little too perfect. No coarse language. Kisses were not descriptive, mostly sweet, though there was one pushed up against the wall and all wrapped up together. Again, not descriptive, just the FMC realizing and thinking thru feels not lustful though. There is a conversation of getting married because he wants to make love to her. Very proper. A little more Lifetime than Hallmark.

I liked this one a lot

I just wish there had been more towards the end, the rest of the books pace was consistent. There were a lot of ups and downs for sure. But the way it ended just felt a little rushed and not quite as satisfying.
Her siren abilities and all the danger she encountered while dating her vampire mate was really entertaining to read. And the side characters were well written too.

Another excellent story

I have loved each of the stories written by Dusty Rose. She has a way of drawing us in and wrapping the characters around our heart. I loved Grace and Sebastian and how their story unfolded. I hope we get to read more of them and the cruise line. Delightful clean read!

I am so pleased that I discovered Dusty Rose

This was a fun paranormal story— not Armageddon with blood everywhere and few survivors. I enjoy paranormal fiction but with a light touch. The plot was interesting and the characters engaging. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books.

As someone else already mentioned it is PG but it was a nice, quick read. A merge of vampires, shifters, and witches ( in the background).

There are a few random characters that make a brief appearance like the vampire king and a witch that warns them which was intriguing and a good start to other sorties.

Heartwarming and charming romance with a mischievous streak of supernatural characters.

Pleasant, sweet romance with suspense and danger woven seamlessly into the flow of the storyline. The characters are endearing and though not the typical vampire and siren portrayals, the storyline is very enjoyable and the book hard-to-put-down. Ten thumbs up!

Excellent Read

Did not want to put it down. Grace and Sebastian had chemistry from the first meeting. There was a lightness to the story even when there was danger. And I totally had not figured out the danger. Light clean read. I recommend this read.

Lovely story

Very interesting, tale of love he's a vampire and she wants to find out what she is, but as soon as he meets he know what she is. He tells her but he also nows he is in love with her. But a small problem is that she is being stalked. But alls well in the end.

This book was so good, new to me author. I felt like it played out like a kdrama, which is great in my opinion. I was a little disappointed in the end, It felt a little rushed. Wasn't enough for me to knock a star off but more like a 4.5.

This was such a great paranormal romance. The characters were endearing and fun, the plot was interesting and unique, and the adventure/suspense was the perfect amount to add to the sweet romance that unfolded throughout. I especially adored the epilogue!!
