I was an avid language learner at high school studying every language offered - French, Spanish and Russian. At Sheffield University I completed a Joint Honours degree in French and Spanish followed by a PGCE. In 1985 I began teaching French, Spanish and EFL, then moved to Hong Kong where I taught English and onto Australia in 1988. From teaching I moved into language testing (since 1992) and began test writing for Cambridge Exams in 1995. In my writing I am very conscious of my language learner self and see myself very much as a teacher. My aim is to try to produce the type of book I would like to use in the classroom.
An excellent book full of exercises to help you to prepare for IELTS. [RECOMMENDED TO ALL]
All the four main parts (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) are included in this book with a lot of different exercises, so that the students become perfectly trained in all the areas. Now, one need not worry about what type of questions or topics will be asked, how to prepare, how to solve questions, how answers must be given, how lengthy they should be (either one or two word answers or essay type questions), everything is explained in this preparatory book along with instructions & tips & guidance whenever needed. This book is not only for students but for teachers too, who are teaching or planning to teach IELTS around the world. They can also get ideas on topics for their future lesson plans. The book also has an audio CD for Listening exercises & more. Have a look here for all its further accessories. http://ieltsmaterial.com/offical-camb...
This is my 100th review here & its one of the most important review.
Nice tips but it lacks structure. It looks and fells messy, kind of hard to navigate. I believe some of the answers (mainly reading related) are debatable. That may have to do with the nature of the test, I guess... Overall it's a three out of five and I suggest using it in combination with some more friendly material, e.g.: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/u...
This book is definitely the best IELTS guide book that I could find to prepare myself for the test. The practice sets are similar to the questions that I got on the real test. However, I feel that the writing and speaking sections are not for those who already advanced in these skills and may need another resource to learn more. I personally would recommend this book along with other 15 Cambridge's academic IELTS practice books.
As a newcomer to IELTS teaching, this is a great guide, and I feel much more confident thanks to this books insight into the process and teaching strategies.
