This a very personal story of an 82nd Airborne sergeant's two-year experience in the army This is also a war story of Sgt. Becker's many lucky close calls with death, especially in the final battle in Cambodia against overwhelming odds. This is also a love story. The love of his fiancee and the love of a five-year-old French Vietnamese orphan girl carry him through the tough times.
This is a must read to understand an infantry soldier's combat experience in Vietnam. Also, recommended reading for troopers in the 82d Airborne Division to gain insight and lessons learned from combat that still apply today.
How can you rate any soldier’s experience in the Vietnam War? A remarkably emotional story about a 20 year old being drafted and having to survive in the depths of the Vietnam jungle. It makes me sick to think about how many young men lost their lives, even adjacently in this book alone.
