I really wanted to like this book. But I didn't. It felt like a draft of a book that no one had put any notes in yet.
Firstly, the author seems to really love Jane Austen. So much so that her books are mentioned constantly, both in conversations and overall. It made no sense for someone to randomly bring up a scene from one of Austen's books mid-conversation with a man we dont know has read the book or not.
Secondly, the whole book felt like a history lesson. Like when you read books in middle school that are written to teach you something. Constantly when telling where the characters were, the author also told us when the building/park was built, in whose honor it was, and by whom it was designed. This was mostly applied to places, but also clothes, societal positions, carriages, and so on. It contributed nothing to the story, and if I wanted a history lesson I'd have listened to a podcast instead of this book.
Lastly, all relations seemed to be evolving quite unnaturally. It felt like scenes were missing when the characters would think things through or talk to each other more, but no, in one conversation they go from 0 to 10. Multiple of the characters bugged me overall.
