Ranging from a minute to 100 years, the book takes readers through the process of things like sunlight reaching earth in 8 minutes, or a baby forming in 9 months, or a Galapagos turtle's amazingly long lifespand of over 100 years. Informative and a good source for discovery and launching off to learn more about nature and science. (Not a how to be patient book as much as a book that impresses the importance of time and its role in natural processes.)

This handsome book explains, by example, how long many things take in life and nature. The author asks the reader to practice patience to enjoy the “important things.”

Each spread contains a stated unit of time on the left, such as one minute, one hour, two weeks or seventy years, and an overview of the time progression on the right. The right side of the spread has a progression of images to show how the time progresses for the topic. Finally, each topic gets another two-page spread with more information about the topic. This allows families to get an overview or a deep dive. For instance, “In One Month” shows a 12-image progression of the lunar cycle, and the next spread contains the names of the moon phases along with illustrations of children engaging in the study of the moon. There’s a table of contents, an index and further sources in this thoughtful book which could prompt further study.

Lovingly created illustrations are the star in the book. The softly colored artwork, pencil with digital color, shows diverse small children engaged in thoughtful examination of the human body, animals, astronomy, plants and more. Families will be especially interested in the nine month of a baby’s gestation, the sixty years it takes for a patch of rain forest to grow, and the one hundred years of a Galápagos tortoise’s life cycle.

The title points to a guide to taking one’s time, but families won’t find it here. It’s more a primer on understanding the elapse of time.

This is a gorgeous offering for kids Kindergarten through 4th grade about how nature takes its time to get things done! The book progresses sequentially, starting with a minute (60 heartbeats) and ending with 100 years (a Galapagos Giant Tortoise lifespan). At each juncture, the reader's given a deep explanation of how this works scientifically. Learn about how light reaches earth from the sun and exactly how long that takes. Learn about how a black darter dragonfly nymph gets ready to fly and how long it takes his wings to dry. Learn how a honeypot ant stores food for the winter. Learn how an apple tree grows fruit. And in learning all these things, you are slowing down, pondering rather than skimming the book, breathing and observing wondrous things. Recommended for kids and adults and all those people trying to learn how to forest bathe or nature contemplate or pray like St. Francis or any other system for slowing with nature's help. Simply powerful.

Why wait? In a world where fantastic technology exists and answers can be found in the blink of an eye, waiting can be hard. But did you know that the best things in life take time? It takes a camel two weeks to cross the desert for a drink and a whole year for an apple tree to grow fruit! Slow down, enjoy the journey, and make space for discovery by picking up this beautifully illustrated and informative book.

Best for Grades 3-6.

A beautifully illustrated book about time and being patient while beautiful things take place in our world. From the month long moon cycle to aging to gestation, young learners will see the phases that different biological and physical cycles go through- which will take varying lengths of time. This is the perfect book for the child that constantly asks, "Why?"

This was a little hard to follow even as an adult. I wanted to enjoy it and use it as a tool for my son. I did not think he would get it.

Incontrato per caso in libreria, mi ha catturata per l'uso didattico che avrei potuto farne. Ma non l'ho poi usato... me lo sono semplicemente goduto.
Certi libri sono una carezza. Inaspettata. Al momento giusto. C'è da esserne grati.
