Honey, What Do We Got?: A Week-by-Week Pregnancy Cookbook

Rate this book
Celebrate your pregnancy with recipes, stories, and advice from Tom and Rachael Sullivan, authors of Meals She Eats.

In 2022, after successfully conceiving their first child, Tom and Rachael Sullivan launched a series on TikTok that playfully tracked the size of their growing baby. In answer to Rachael’s question, “Honey, what do we got?” Tom presented her with a dish featuring an ingredient comparable in size to their baby that week. When their baby was the size of an eggplant, Tom prepared Crispy Eggplant Tacos. A pineapple? Pineapple Coconut Cupcakes. What about a butternut squash? Roasted Butternut Squash and Tomato Pasta.

Now you can celebrate your pregnancy and nourish your growing baby with over 90 fun and nutrient-rich recipes from Sullivans, organized by trimester and focused each week on an ingredient that represents the size of your baby. As your baby grows from the size of the blueberry at Week 8 to the size of a watermelon at Week 40, you can recognize each milestone with the perfect dish. You’ll find breakfasts, snacks, main dishes, and, of course, sweet treats and mocktails, all designed to satisfy your cravings and deliver the nutrition you and your baby need.

Along the way, Tom and Rach offer advice and encouragement, share the ups and downs of their pregnancy journeys, and reflect on the joy of bringing new life into the world.

In Honey, What Do We Got, Rachael and Tom Sullivan have written a special cookbook to guide you in preparing for your new addition to your family. They believe in the fact just getting pregnant is a reason to celebrate this millstone. They struggled with their own journey to conceiving. Rachael was diagnosed in 2019 with PCOS so it was difficult to pregnant. They did research and found out certain foods can help so Tom begins cooking differently to try and help. This became a major part of their first book. In 2021, she was working on a reserve flight and had to be ready in a two-hour notice and she would often stay with her aunt. She decided to take a pregnancy test. She noticed that she had some implantation bleeding. She surprised Tom with bring out the special tablecloth they illustrated at a restaurant when they were dating. They wanted to hang it in the nursey. The next child came unexpectantly right at a time Tom’s mother was dying from lung cancer. This time they admitted the timing wasn’t the best and there was a feeling of being overwhelmed.

The book is broken down into each week and covered the three trimesters and they compare the baby’s growth into sizes of fruits and vegetables. The recipes are gluten free and diary free and they are wholesome. Some of the recipes included Blueberry Skillet Pancakes, Raspberry Dijon Chicken, Key Lime Pie Overnights Oats, Cilantro-Lime Chicken, Pink Drink, Pineapple Whip, Pina Colada, and so much more. The pictures are beautiful showcasing her family and the recipes. I’m excited to try of these and they look tasty.

The premise of this book is adorable: cook with the food that is the size of the bbaby that week. It definitely could be a really fun exercise with your partner during pregnancy or with a friend who is pregnant. The ingredients are easy to find. The recipes are easy to follow. The grilled proscuitto wrapped cantelope, cucumber tahini salad, grilled peach- basil and goat cheese sandwiches, and lemon-blueberry and lavendar overnight oats(substituted lavendar syrup for the culinary grade lavender and it was still delicious). I'm looking forward to making the raspberry marmalade breakfast sliders and teh blueberry chipotle chicken along with the dragon fruit and shrimp poke bowls. This book is full of easy and accessible recipes that could be made throughout the year. Very fun book. Thank you to the publisher and author for the early review copy.

Honey, What Do We Got? focuses on a new way of celebrating pregnancy through creating nutritious meals based on the size of the baby that week. The recipes that start at week 8 and go through to week 40 of pregnancy. The cookbook has fully dairy and gluten free recipes.

The Sections are broken up in the different trimesters than further broken down into weeks. Each week has roughly 3-4 recipes surrounding the fruit and vegetable of that baby week. For example, week 8 of pregnancy the baby is the size of a blueberry. Each recipe has a little blurb from either Tom or Rachael, servings, prep time, total time, ingredients, and instructions. Each recipe includes a picture of the recipe as well.

I've followed this couple on TikTok for years now. I had to check out their new cookbook! I think the week by week recipes and baby size to fruit comparisons were such a fun idea. I know Tom is a great cook, so I wasn't surprised that I would love the recipes. This is the perfect book to give to someone trying to get pregnant or as a baby shower gift too!

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Page after page of glamour shots of the authors obscure that there is very little originality or substance to the recipes. You can easily find similar recipes just about anywhere. I don't know who this couple is, but it is evident they believe they are "somebody". I've never encountered such unbridled narcissism in a cookbook and am grateful that I checked it out from the library and did not waste any money on it.

Cute premise! Creative recipes that encourage cleaner eating. Readers should keep in mind that his wife is gluten and dairy free and thus so are the recipes. Seems like substitutions shouldn’t be hard. At the very least, the recipes are a great starting off point for experimentation.

The only thing I would have changed about this book was focusing more on recipes that your body needs each week of your pregnancy. However, the fruit-themed weekly recipes were a cute idea too!
