Muk Muk Moose and Honey Bunny are known as the forest inventors for the way they put their heads together – and their opposite personalities – to solve problems by creating eccentric contraptions, doodads, and whatchamacallits for various other forest residents. Muk is the more methodical rule-keeper of the two, while Honey is more creative and unpredictable and definitely a rule-bender. And in this book, they need to figure out a way to get back up into their now-stairless treehouse before their Triple Decker Hunger Wrecker makes the oven explode (or worse). While also inventing help for their friends who have pressing needs of their own. Needless to say the antics that ensue, as documented by the simple text and colorful illustrations, provide much hilarity for elementary-age readers! Not only that, but important concepts like teamwork and perseverance are also creatively reinforced.

Bottom Line: Treehouse Trouble by Brett Bean is such a fun chapter book for beginning readers or a family/classroom readaloud! There’s plenty of quirky humor on these pages, including from the vibrant illustrations that capture their expressions and antics so well. Kiddos will adore Muk and Honey and their inventions, and it may even spark some creative problem solving of their own. I loved how different these two friends are yet how well they worked together. In fact, it’s their different strengths that make them such a great team, and I appreciated that tucked-away lesson most of all.
