Just when you think you’re safe from the past, it finds you. It’s as true in life as it is in fiction, and it’s been a favorite theme of mine from my earliest novels, including these two classic novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind, now gathered in one volume with a gorgeous new cover and title. Mara Wilcox and Becca Peters both tried to leave danger behind them. And both thought they’d succeeded . . . until now.
After four long years, Mara has come to accept losing Shane in a tragic bombing overseas. Inexplicably, he’s back, mad as hell that she didn’t wait for him, and determined to claim his daughter. But Mara isn’t the only one shocked by his return, and someone will do whatever it takes to make sure there are no new beginnings.
Ever since the scandal that almost destroyed her family horse farm, Becca has tried to keep her feelings for Brig Chambers reined in. His accusations already cost her so much. Yet there’s as much desire between them as there is distrust—enough to blind them both to an enemy that’s never gone away.
I loved revisiting these stories, and hope you’ll join me in rediscovering them.

Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.
With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.
This is two books in one of previously released Lisa Jackson novels - and I had never read either of them. It's a bonus to get both! Lisa Jackson

My Thoughts: This was categorized as "thriller", but I found both books to be more of the romance type of book. There was some mystery to each story, but nothing I would call a thriller, and Lisa Jackson is well-known as a mystery and thriller writer. Both books were good and filled with lots of drama. Both books portrayed love, loss, betrayal and second chance romances. I enjoyed both of them and would recommend them to my friends who like romance.
Thanks to Kensington Publishing | Zebra through Netgalley for an advance copy.
Known for her mystery and thriller novels, I wasn't expecting a romance novel from the author. In You'll Find Out, the book is a compilation of two different romance novels. And I didn't see the point of combining the two into a single book.
The narratives follow the second chance romance trope, and they didn't give any warm and fuzzy feelings. It just felt too sterile for me. And the characters were not at all likable. They were all so wishy-washy which was a little frustrating for me.
Maybe this was a one off for me so I'll still continue to seek out other novels from this author. Two okay stars for this particular novel.
I received a DRC from Kensington Publishing through NetGalley. This review is my own and reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.
I did not enjoy these books at all. There were also different plots happening within the main plot of the story. This combined with the narrators frequently changing disturbed the flow of the book. Jewell’s depiction of the female main characters in these stories is cause for concern. They are written as weak women that are unable to “save themselves” and need the help of the male main characters (whom often leave a lot to be desired, bordering on abusive). They give in easily to their physical desires without holding their male counterparts accountable for their behavior or speaking their truth. I don’t think this is the message we should be sending to women let alone young female readers. There were also enough spelling and grammatical errors within the stories that it was distracting while reading. Unfortunately, these are not the type of stories I would recommend given the depiction of women and men. In the past, I have enjoyed Jewell’s books but this is not one of them.
Initially I didn't realize this was two short stories but both were interesting so of course I'm all in! In the first, Imagination--a toy company--is at stake after the death of its founder, Peter. In the second we see a horse farm and an oil company. Both stories involve scandal and suspense--two of my favorite elements so I raced through them! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I couldn’t even make it through the first story in this set. The characters didn’t feel like they had that much chemistry and frankly this story did not age well. MMC felt like an aggressive asshole and the MFC was acting like she was in the 50s not the 80s. This does make the style of the romances written in the 80s but at this point we should leave them there.
You'll Find Out by Lisa Jackson is a collection of two romantic suspense novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind. These books were previously published separately in the 1980s.
In The Shadow of Time, Mara has always loved Shane, a previous love interest who is presumed dead after an overseas bombing four years ago. Now after the funeral of her late husband, Shane returns, still madly in love with Mara, but furious that she could have moved on from their love. Mara is understandably shocked at his reappearance in her life and wonders why if he has been alive these four years why did he not contact her sooner? As Mara and Shane struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives together and to make up for lost time, will they be able to move on and forward and give their love a second chance?
In Gypsy Wind Becca Peters' families horse farm used to be home to a champion thoroughbred filly, when controversy over her death left the farm and Becca with a cloud of suspicion hovering over them. At the time Becca's boyfriend Brig Chambers accused Becca of being the one to blame for the fillies death casting her reputation into a dark light. Now six years later Becca is wanting to make a name for herself, but she needs an influx of cash and the only person that can help her is Brig's father. But when Brig's father dies, Brig has come back but so has the mystery of what really happened all those years earlier.
Both of these stories were written in the '80s so while the romance of that time was different than today, readers of the modern Lisa Jackson might be taken a bit back. These are both well written books, just a completely different vibe. Anyone wanting to read a second chance love story and can take that into mind will definitely want to check this compilation out!
Thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Jackson, and Kensington Publishing / Zebra for this ARC. Expected publication date is February 25th 2025.
This is actually two books in one. Two separate romances that are very dated. I felt the entire time I was reading very predictable romances. Nothing stood out. The details were dated and it felt more like I was watching a "soap" on an afternoon home from school in the 80's with my mom. I was waiting for Bo & Hope to make an appearance (IYKYK). I'm actually relieved I finished.
I've enjoyed suspense novels by Lisa Jackson and I thought 'You'll Find Out' belonged to this genre. Instead, 'You'll Find Out' is a re-release of two romance novels published by Jackson in the 1980s. This was early in Jackson's writing career and the books have the feel of young adult novels for girls dreaming of that GEORGEOUS, IRRESISTIBLE, RICH man they'll love forever. Older gals don't really expect this to happen, but anyone can fantasize, right?
Both books have the same format: girl and boy meet; girl and boy are parted; boy tries to get in touch, but someone or something prevents it; girl and boy meet again a few years later; and nature takes it course.
The 'love scenes', which begin almost immediately when girl and boy meet again, are formulaic and approach soft porn.
I'll provide a brief review of both tales.
*****
The Shadow of Time
Four years ago, in Asheville, North Carolina, Mara - a beautiful, blue-eyed, blonde, business administrator.....
......and Shane Kennedy - a handsome, black haired, dark-eyed, documentary filmmaker, were madly in love. Shane went to Europe, where he was making a movie about the political battle in Northern Ireland, and didn't return when expected.
Mara called Shane's father, and was told Shane died in Northern Ireland. Mara was shattered and pregnant and inconsolable, and her long-time friend Peter Wilcox, whose family owned Imagination Toys, provided comfort.
Mara and Peter wed, and Mara had baby Angie (now three years old). The marriage turned cold, Peter became terminally ill, and recently died. Shane read about Peter's funeral in the newspaper and he came to watch from a distance.
Mara is now head of Imagination Toys, which is going bankrupt because of an economic downturn in the country. Shane, who owns Delta Electronics, makes an offer for the toy company, which (of course) leads to Mara and Shane meeting again. It's lust at first sight all over again, but there are flies in the ointment.
Mara can't understand why she was told Shane died; and Shane can't accept that Mara married another fellow so quickly. Then Shane discovers Angie is his daughter, and wants to tell the world, and raise Angie with Mara.
The 'mystery' part of this story lies in the fact that Shane returned from Ireland four years ago, and wrote to Mara, but she never received the letters.
Things play out as they will, primarily because Mara is SO in love with Shane. Shane doesn't deserve Mara because he's self-centered, arrogant. and determined to get what he wants by any means necessary. I don't know how Mara can even stand him!!!
I don't think this same story would be written in current times, or at least Shane would be portrayed differently. _________________________________
Gypsy Wind
Six years ago, in Seattle, Washington, Becca - a gorgeous, blue-eyed, blonde, horsebreeder......
......and Brig Chambers - a handsome black-haired, dark-eyed hunk, whose East coast family breeds horses, were madly in love.
Together, Becca and Brig owned a talented filly named Sentimental Lady, who was expected to excel on the racing circuit.
Sentimental Lady was entered in a race against a colt, had a terrible accident, and had to be euthanized. Testing revealed Sentimental Lady had been drugged, and Brig blamed Becca. Brig then went back East to work in his family business and hasn't spoken to Becca since.
Unknown to Brig, Becca bred another horse, named Gypsy Wind, using a $50,000 loan from Brig's father Jason Chambers. Sadly, Jason was recently killed in a small plane crash, and the probate of Jason's will, along with other factors, lead Becca and Brig to meet again.
Guess what? It's lust at first sight once more, and there are flies in the ointment again.
Becca is hurt because Brig blamed her for the death of Sentimental Lady and went away; and Brig is angry because Becca hid the existence of Gypsy Wind from him. Also, Brig tried to phone Becca after Sentimental Lady's accident, but was never put through.
The 'mystery' part of this story is 'Who drugged Sentimental Lady and why'.
Once again, things play out as they will because Becca and Brig are SO IN LOVE. Unlike Shane (above) Brig is an okay guy so I don't mind. _________________________________
Both books are similar. The main characters are great-looking and they meet at a party; there's a secondary character who's manipulative and has bad intentions; and things work out in the end.
I'm giving 'You'll Find Out' three stars because I think the stories might appeal to fans of second-chance romance novels.
Thanks to Netgalley, Lisa Jackson, and Kensington Publishing for a copy of the book.
Ever since recently discovering how well done Lisa Jackson's mystery/thriller/suspense novels are, as soon as I saw this advance reader copy of "You'll find Out" available by request on Netgalley, I was so eager to get to read it, that I didn't fully read the description, so when I started reading it, I was quite surprised to find out that this wasn't what I was expecting. Instead, this is a compilation of two of her earlier novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind, which are both second chance at love romances with a bit of mystery thrown in, so I'd classify them as romantic suspense novels, both of which I'd give 2 stars.
The Shadow of Time features recently widowed Mara, and her adorable, outspoken daughter. She, married her late husband when she was pregnant by the man she loved, Shane, whose death overseas she'd been mourning for the past 4 years. Mara is about to get the surprise of her life when Shane shows up at her door, and as soon as he learns that Mara's daughter is also his daughter, he wants her, however, Mara first wants an explanation of where he's been for the past 4 years, and why, if he was alive, he didn't come back to her--warning: you've got a very long wait before you find out the reason. To say that I disliked Shane from his first appearance to his last in this novel is putting it mildly. I found him to be selfish, pigheaded, manipulative, short-tempered, and overbearing. I find it very hard to enjoy a novel when I dislike the supposed hero, who was no hero in my eyes.
The second novel, Gypsy Wind, also brought up issues for me. I love horses, and Gypsy Wind is the name of the titular horse in this novel. She's a thoroughbred race horse, sister to her owner's previous thoroughbred and Triple Crown winner, Sentimental Lady, who had to be put down after being secretly drugged, falling, and shattering one of her legs beyond repair. Becca, Gypsy Wind's owner also had a surprise coming because coming back into her life is her previous lover, multi-millionaire, Brig Chambers, who waffles back and forth about whether or not Gypsy Wind, a filly, should try to run against the colts, the same situation that cost Sentimental Lady her life. I found Brig Chambers to be just as emotionally manipulative as Shane is the previous novel. The mystery here is who drugged Sentimental Lady 6 years earlier? It was no mystery to this reader, who nailed the "who" in whodunit immediately. Combining that with my belief that horseracing is a cruel way to treat any animal, saying that I was not a fan of this story is putting it mildly.
If you're a fan of romantic suspense novels, you may enjoy this duet more than I did, but if you're looking to be deeply involved in one of Ms. Jackson's excellent thrillers, I advise against reading this one.
As stated, I read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated here are my own.
In this new volume containing two previously released novels, women who have moved past a devastating event will find themselves dealing with the repercussions a second time...but also getting a second chance at love. In The Shadow of Time the main female character is Mara Wilcox who fell in love with Shane Kennedy, a man whose career took him to dangerous spots around the world. On his last such trip he suddenly stopped communicating with her, and when she discovered during those silent weeks that she was pregnant with his child she contacted his family (whom she had yet to meet). Shane's father gave her the heartbreaking news....Shane had been killed on assignment in Northern Ireland. Devastated by the loss of her love and unsure of her future and that of her unborn child, Mara was in a horrible state when old friend Peter Wilcox appeared at her door. More than a little bit in love with Mara, Peter took care of her and even knowing that she carried another man's child offered to marry her. Thinking it was best for her child, Mara agreed to the marriage and began a new life at his family's manor house near Asheville NC. Peter asked that no one but the two of them know that Peter was not the father of the girl to whom Mara gave birth and she again agreed. Four years later it is clear that Mara's life was not of the happily-ever-after variety; Peter became resentful of Angie when it became clear that he could never father a child, and also realized that Mara would never stop loving Shane. Their marriage became rocky and Peter, who was in charge of the family's toy business, was running the firm into the ground. Then he became gravely ill, and Mara took over the running of the business; when he died he left Mara a young widow whose mother-in-law June relied heavily on her and whose sister-in-law Dena resented her and made her work as difficult as possible. Then Shane - turns out he didn't die as she had been told - reenters her life, still in love with her but furious that she had married another man so quickly, not waiting for his return. Mara is bowled over, overjoyed that he is alive but not able to understand why he didn't contact her over the ensuing years. There are many things to clear up as they struggle to make sense of the time that they lost and the truths that need to come out. Will they be able to heal their wounds and give their love a chance? In the second novel, Gypsy Wind, it is Becca Peters who is about to relive a past tragedy. Years earlier, a thoroughbred filly bred on her family's Northern Californian horse farm was a reigning champion until controversy led to her death and a cloud of suspicion fell over Becca and her family as well as their trainer Ian. Worse still, Becca was in a relationship with Sentimental Lady's owner, oilman Brig Chambers, and Brig blamed Becca for what happened, Although he nearly destroyed her reputation as a breeder and broke her heart, Becca still secretly loves Brig six years later. In her quest to prove herself to the racing world Becca wanted to breed another horse with the same bloodlines as the lady, but the only person who would lend her the money needed to do so was Brig's father. Now with that filly, Gypsy Wind, in her final months of training to start her own racing career, the sudden death of the elder Chambers brings Brig back into her life. What happened to Sentimental Lady all those years ago, and is history about to repeat itself as Gypsy WInd begins her own journey in the competitive world of horse racing? Can Brig and Becca learn to trust one another and heal the wounds of the past? How far will someone be willing to go to keep the secrets of the past buried? The two stories combined in this rerelease package were first released back in the 1980's....and boy does their age show. Readers of today's Lisa Jackson are used to her suspenseful thrillers, so reading these two romance-with-a-dash-of-mystery might come as a bit of a surprise. Both female protagonists are smart, beautiful, and accomplished....but when it comes to the domineering men they love, they tend to fold. Fairly typical of romances during the time in which they were originally written, not quite as easy to take in 2025. A lot has changed in forty years, and readers should go into the reading of these two tales with that in mind. I honestly didn't like either male protagonist all that much, and the women could be more than a little frustrating as they gave these men permission for some pretty nasty behavior due to their love for them. I don't think that the same male characters would fare as well with any of author Lisa Jackson's current female protagonists. If you enjoyed the early books of authors like Nora Roberts, Janey Dailey or Karen Rose, or just want a little mystery woven into a second-chance romance then you may enjoy these two stories. I prefer more recent creations from this author, but that is a matter of opinion (and shows that I should read a book's description a bit more thoroughly before selecting it to read), My thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing/Zebra Books for allowing me access to You'll Find Out in exchange for my honest review.
You'll Find Out by Lisa Jackson consists of two separate stories.
The Shadow of Time
Mara and Shane have a toxic relationship, communication issues, and perceived illusions of betrayal. He comes off as overbearing, controlling, manipulative, hot-headed, abrasive, bitter, jealous, vindictive, has violent and aggressive outbursts, and is quick to judge. She comes off as naive, obtuse, fickle, is an over thinker, and tends to procrastinate, paranoid, can appear weak willed and pathetic, but also deceptive and opportunistic. Their distrust and not being forthcoming with each other is pretty much the premise of the plot. This story is basically about two people who both have so many red flags, constantly hurl unfounded accusations, and shouldn't procreate end up being obsessed with each other and procreated.
Gypsy Wind
Becca Peters and her brother Dean, the owners of Starlight Breeding Farm, borrowed fifty thousand from Jason Chambers of Chambers Oil Company and bred a race horse, Gypsy Wind. The story opens with them finding out that Jason has died in a plane crash. Becca had history with his son, Brig Chambers, but had a falling out with him when there was a controversy at Sequoia Park with drugging a horse named Sentimental Lady, which Gypsy Wind takes after, six years prior in a race against Brig's horse. Becca and Brig reconnect and old secrets and resentments resurface.
Both stories reflect on past relationships, rekindling them, getting married, and having babies. They also both center around the misunderstanding or miscommunication tropes with strong, determined Main Male Characters and Omega women personality traits for the Main Female Characters. They almost reminded me of the old Harlequin romance novels you would buy at a drugstore.
You’ll Find Out by Lisa Jackson Released February 25th
This is a gripping collection of two classic romantic suspense novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind, repackaged under the new title You’ll Find Out. Both stories explore a theme Jackson excels at—how the past never truly stays buried, no matter how much the characters try to outrun it.
In The Shadow of Time, Mara Wilcox has spent four years grieving the loss of Shane, the man she loved, who was presumed dead after a bombing overseas. Just as she’s finally moving forward, he returns—alive, angry, and demanding a relationship with the daughter he never knew existed. But his unexpected return doesn’t just shake up Mara’s world—it also draws out unseen enemies willing to do anything to ensure Shane disappears for good this time. Jackson weaves in mystery, tension, and emotional depth, keeping readers hooked as secrets unravel.
Gypsy Wind introduces Becca Peters, whose once-promising future crumbled under the weight of scandal. She’s fought to keep her family’s horse farm afloat, but her past with Brig Chambers—whose accusations nearly destroyed her—still lingers. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but trust is in short supply. As they navigate their tangled history, danger lurks in the background, proving that the ghosts of the past are never truly gone.
Both stories blend romance, mystery, and suspense in Jackson’s signature style, making this collection a must-read for fans of second-chance love and high-stakes drama. With twists that keep you guessing and emotional stakes that pull you in, You’ll Find Out is a compelling reminder that the past always has a way of catching up with us.
Shame on me. I thought this book was a thriller, not a romance novel. While I’ve watched a number of rom-coms over the years, I don’t typically read this kind of book.
Three or four chapters into The Shadow of Time (the first of two books included in You’ll Find Out), I began to think that there was a book here that I could enjoy. That came to a grinding halt once Shane, the leading male character began to show his true colors. I found him to be intolerable, pretty much from the start. That never changed. The fact that the leading female character tolerated his bad behavior (pretty much throughout the whole book), led me to write her off in my mind as well.
I noticed that The Shadow of Time was first published in 1984. Because it goes so far back, I’ve got to cut the author some slack that the discussion of the business environment (no computers, secretaries taking dictation, etc.) doesn’t seem to hold up well using today's standards.
I didn’t find the ending satisfying. Because of all of the above, I chose to not read the second book included in You’ll Find Out (Gypsy Wind). I did find The Shadow of Time to be an easy read and I would not likely be opposed to reading a thriller by the same author.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to Kensington and Goodreads for the copy provided. The above opinions are my own.
You'll Find Out by Lisa Jackson is a recommended collection of two of her previously published romance novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind. This is probably better suited for and will be appreciated more by readers who enjoy romance novels. When I see Lisa Jackson's name I'm looking for one of her suspense novels. For me she is a go-to author for novels of suspense, mysteries, and thrillers. These are well-written, but not one of my usual genres.
In The Shadow of Time, Mara, a new widow, has her true love Shane reappear. When she was pregnant, she had been told he was dead and ended up marrying another man. Now Shane is back and still wants her and his newly discovered daughter but someone is determined to sabotage their reunion.
Gypsy Wind follows Becca and her family's horse farm. Becca and Brig Chambers have a history and still both desire and distrust each other equally. This creates a tense atmosphere when he is back in her life and the past and present clash.
Romance readers might want to give this a try. Those looking for one of Jackson's thrillers can skip it. Thanks to Zebra for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion. http://www.shetreadssoftly.com/2025/0...
It is kinda nice when earlier books get to have a chance to be rebranded and released for new readers to discover. I could tell these were dated but love is timeless, which is actually what these two stories are about. They are definitely more romance than thriller and pretty quick reads.
In the first story, you have Shane and Mara reconnecting, Mara having believed that Shane died four years ago. I felt that Shane was a bit too forceful, especially since he was the one that stayed away so long and did not return until Mara's husband had died. He did not give Mara much choice and even if she loved him, it is not great to give her the ultimatum to go with him or he would take her child. Though I will say that Shane did have real love for his daughter, so that off set it a bit.
I liked the second story much better with Becca and Brig and the racing horses. To me it seemed that Becca was taking more action and choices and seemed more equal with Brig. Plus, it was interesting to read about the horses and I was rooting for Gypsy Wind. Definitely a bit more thrilling with the scandal of Sentimental Lady.
Two great reads. Mara can’t believe that Shane is alive. She thought that he had died all those years ago. She had no choice but to marry another man. He is also gone now all that is left is her daughter. But she fears that Shane will take her away now that he knows about her. Shane can’t believe that she moved on so quickly & he can’t Mara let another bring up their daughter. Can they put the past behind them and move forward?
Rebecca lost everything the man that she loved, her reputation and a prized thoroughbred horse. She has taken a long time to find a way through all that pain and now everything has come full circle. She never thought that she would need to see Brig again. But he needs her but can he let her walk away again? They have a painful past that was filled with so many dreams but that was all taken away. But can they find their way back together again? Will they be stronger together than apart?
Good reads. Stronger characters. Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the copy. This is my voluntary review.
You’ll Find Out by Lisa Jackson is a collection of two thrilling tales. The first, The Shadow of Time is the tale of tragedy and re-connection. Mara said goodbye to Shane as he flew off to a dangerous assignment in Ireland. After several weeks, when she couldn't reach him, she heard the news that he had died in a tragedy of political unrest. Mara was devastated by the loss and that she would never be able to share the news that she was pregnant with his child. Four years passed before Mara found out that Shane was still alive, but Mara had married another. What would you do if the love of your life was presumed dead, disappeared for 4 years suddenly to return? The second tale, Gypsy Wind centers around Brig and Becca. Both are in the horse racing circuit, and the couple of the year, when tragedy struck. Both blamed the other and their relationship ended over it. Now, years later they have a reason to reconnect, but the road is full of twists and turns. The tales were both entertaining, but not as riveting as her other novels.
You'll Find Out by L. Jackson contains 2 novels, previously published. The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind. The Shadow of Time Blurb: After four long years, Mara Wilcox had finally come to accept that her lover, Shane Kennedy, had been tragically killed in northern Ireland. But now, inexplicably, he was back - as handsome, arrogant, and sensual as ever - and he was mad as hell that Mara hadn't cared enough to wait for him while he was in the hospital recovering from a horrific bombing.
Gypsy Wind Blurb: Passions run high in horse-racing circles, but thoroughbred breeder Becca Peters keeps a tight rein on her emotions. Except when it comes to Brig Chambers. Six years after he shattered their relationship with dangerous accusations, he’s back, stirring up trouble...and undeniable heat.
“You’ll Find Out” by Lisa Jackson is a literary work that originally consisted of two distinct novels. However, these two narratives have been seamlessly integrated into a single book.
Story one is called “The Shadow of Time.”
The inconsistent narrative shifts in the initial chapter presented a slight challenge in comprehending the story. The abrupt transitions between Mara’s and Shane’s perspectives were jarring and made it difficult to discern the flow of the narrative. Overall, the story was pretty good. I found myself agreeing with Mara and others with Shane at times. The ending was a bit rushed, but it was still a good one.
Story two was called, “Gypsy Wind.”
This one wasn’t my favorite of the two because I could guess what happened pretty quickly. But I still enjoyed the characters’ love story!
You'll Find Out is a new book with two favorite books under a new title, The Shadow of Time and Gyspy Wind.
I have to admit I did not read the description before requesting this from NetGalley. I have only ever read her suspense novels. I have never been disappointed. While the stories are good, they are not what I am accustomed to ready by Lisa Jackson.
The Shadow of Time is the story of Mara who believed the father of her child was dead only to return after four years to claim his daughter.
Gypsy Wind is the story of Becca and her love for Brig Chambers in spite of him nearly destroying her reputation.
As I stated, the stories are good, but I much prefer her suspense genre. This is still worth reading.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
I'm going to give this one a 3.5 with a round up to 4 stars. It's 2 previously released stories.
The first one is The Shadow of Time. This one absolutely drove me crazy. It started strong but didn't end well. I couldn't relate to the FMC, Mara. She let's the MMC run all over her and not in a good way. She didn't stand up for herself with anyone in the story.
The second story is Gypsy Wind. This one I loved. It was interesting and kept me enthralled from the beginning. The FMC is a strong, independent woman who can hold her own. She works well with the MMC, and they solve the problems together.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Jackson, and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
my fault for not reading the blurb, but i didn’t realize this new “novel” was just two of the author’s early works (seriously… they were written in the 80s) slapped together with a new cover and marketed as her latest release. highly deceptive. *review of the shadow of time* i’m still kind of in shock that this type of mmc was ever found attractive. the whole relationship was one giant red flag. stalking, manipulation, mental abuse, kidnapping… these are just a few of the “wooing” techniques employed in this book. and sickeningly, they worked and the reader is supposed to accept the fmc’s acquiescence as a happy ending.
I love this author's mysteries and thrillers and was really expecting something more akin to the books of hers that I have already read. This book was a compilation of two of Lisa Jackson's previous books "The Shadow of Time"and "Gypsy Wind". Although I appreciated the opportunity to read these, I was expecting more to the stories. Each story was enjoyable in its own way, but I prefer her mysteries and thrillers.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house Kensington Publishing and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
If you are looking for a relaxing mystery to dive into this isn't it. It is two shorter stories (each about half the book). Both stories are about a guy and a gal and there is a great deal of emotional tension between them. They had each met before and something went wrong and they have been separated for a couple of years. They have been reconnected and have to figure out what went wrong and do they have a future.
It isn't relaxing, it isn't a whodunit, both are pretty good stories. This isn't your standard Lisa Jackson novel but it keeps you curious and guessing.
Mara and Peter’s story had quite a few surprises, which is no surprise for this author. I felt the accusations and many obstacles they had to overcome, and people. Who would have thought a dead man would affect so many lives. The intrigue and rekindling of Mara and Peter had me turning the pages to get to the climatic end. This was also a twofer. Gypsy Rose had the best characters, good and bad. I had never read anything from this author, but I couldn’t put it down. I was rooting for Becca and Brig from the start. The ending was a nail biter. I can’t wait for more. Book provided by NetGalley.
Usually I love anything by Lisa Jackson, but these stories did not age well. I won this book in a giveaway and was so excited because Lisa is one of my favorite authors! The first story, I hated, I didn't like a thing about it. The make character was the biggest a**h*** ever and the female character just let him do whatever he wanted and just fell head over heels for him! The second story redeemed the book a bit for me and the characters definitely had more depth. I wish it would of been a book of it's own so we could of dove into it more and had a bigger book on them.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this book. You'll Find Out by Lisa Jackson contains two previously published novels, The Shadow of Time and Gypsy Wind. Both contain a female and male main character that were separated for many years and brought back together by a death. I did enjoy Gypsy Wind more than The Shadow of Time. Both contained secrets, deceit and betrayal. Both have suspense as you figure out the betrayal and uncover the secrets.
This one is two stories in one. The first The Shadow of Time is a story about Shane and Mara. I liked the plot line but I thought Shane was a jerk. But overall the story was a good read. The second, Gypsy Wind was a very good read. I loved the plot line and the characters. Brig and Becca were such a good couple. If only their past and attitudes would let them be. Many thanks to Kensington and Netgalley for the chance to read and review this one. I love Lisa Jackson’s books.
You'll Find Out by Lisa Jackson is a reprint of two of her previous books. I hadn't read either one of this books before. I am use to reading her suspense thrillers, which is one of my favorite genres. Sadly although I found it to be a decent read, it was not a great read. I would still recommend it to others because I realize not everyone likes the same books.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Not for me.. which was disappointing. I was really intrigued at the beginning of the first book, but the back and forth between Mara and Shane was just awful. I thought this was going to be different than what it was and I just felt miserable reading it.
I still don’t understand what happened in this first story. I ended up skimming through the second story, which is not something I’m proud of or like to do. 1/5 stars, I’m just glad it’s over.
