Rate this book
As Lady Phoebe and her betrothed say their vows of holy matrimony, a killer has vowed unholy vengeance on the town’s chief inspector . . .

June 1922: The blessed day has finally arrived. Phoebe Renshaw and Owen Seabright are to be wed, and lady’s maid Eva Huntford could not be more delighted for her lady’s happiness. But she is disturbed by one notable absence from the ceremony—her beau, Police Constable Miles Brannock. When Miles finally does appear, breathlessly running into the reception at Foxwood Hall, he brings grim he’s found Chief Inspector Isaac Perkins murdered, shot in his home in his favorite parlor chair with his own gun.

A policeman naturally makes enemies, especially those of questionable character. In charge of finding his former boss’s killer, Miles reviews the details of the crime scene. The murder weapon has been wiped clean and left on the table next to the remnants of the chief inspector’s sausage pasty and coffee reeking of a bit of whiskey. No sign of forced entry. A seemingly peaceful scene—other than the bullet hole in the victim.

Before Miles can make much progress in his investigation, a Scotland Yard detective arrives in Little Barlow to take over the case—and promptly focuses his suspicions on the constable himself, who he reasons had motive and opportunity. Coming to their maid’s defense, Phoebe and Owen postpone their honeymoon to join Eva in clearing her beau’s good name and unmasking the identity of the true killer . . .

The big day has finally arrived. Phoebe Renshaw is marrying her beloved Owen Seabright and she intends for the day to be perfect. Everyone is in attendance, even the servants. Eva is a little distracted because Miles Brannock was supposed to meet her at the Hall and escort her to the church but he never arrived. When he fails to arrive at the church for the ceremony, Eva is concerned. Where is Miles? When Miles finally arrives at the Hall, he brings news that Chief Inspector Perkins has been murdered! Miles discovered Perkins early that morning, shot with his own gun. There's no way it was suicide but he could have been drugged and shot afterwards. Miles would like to know and see justice done. He picks Eva's brain for help but a detective from London arrives and arrests Miles for the murder! Everyone ELSE knows Miles couldn't have done it and Lord Wroxley and Owen Seabright intervene to convince Detective Burridge to allow Miles to stay home on house arrest. Unable to move about, Miles cannot investigate the murder but Eva can be his eyes and ears in the village and ask questions, while Phoebe, postponing her honeymoon, can question the farmers on the estate. They come up with several other suspects, including a Romany woman and her husband but Detective Burridge isn't too interested in clues that point to someone other than Miles. It's up to Eva and Phoebe once again to take the lead and solve this one before Miles is hanged for a murder he didn't commit!

Sniff sniff! This is the final volume in the series and of course it all ends up with the HEAs everyone deserves. I felt emotional at the weddings, especially Eva's at the end. She worked so hard for the Renshaws, went through so much and became like a sister to Phoebe. Of course the Renshaws love her and appreciate her good sense. She grew up on the estate, her brother gave his life for his country with other village lads, Eva has faithfully served Julia, Phoebe and Amelia, sacrificing her own dreams for them. Not to mention, Eva has saved Phoebe on numerous occasions. She deserved her happiness with Miles. The little drama after the proposal didn't please me and was unnecessary. The murder happens very quickly and the story moves fast. I couldn't put it down. There are a lot of suspects and I thought I guessed who the murderer was or one or two people anyway. I was quite surprised when my suspects ended up on the suspect list and then when the murderer revealed themself. I didn't expect that person!

Readers beware that this is a book set in 1922 when there was a huge amount of prejudice against "foreigners." The book deals with prejudice against the Romany people. Phoebe uses the modern term Romany but Eva uses gypsy, not as a slur, just as a matter of habit. Other characters do use gypsy as a slur. There's also an Italian character who isn't English enough for the Renshaws and other families.

The Renshaw children are all grown up! Julia is happily married to her true love at last and seems to be a good mother to little Charles. She's in the family way again which surprised me. I wouldn't think she would have wanted to go through that again so soon. And yes there were ways to prevent it post-WWI (for married women). I suppose it's necessary to give Theo an heir. Julia is still a bit cold and selfish but she's trying and not quite as nasty as she was before she was married the first time. Sweet Amelia is now almost 20 and "Out" to Society. She has boundless energy and optimism. Amelia represents the new young woman of the 20th century. She'll do anything she can on her own and is quick to accept her role as the unmarried daughter of the clan who must do her part to ensure the success of the estate. Amelia gets in on the action with delight. Little terror Fox is now a young man of 18. He's matured a lot and will soon be ready to take his place as Earl. He's still a lad with a boy's sense of the absurd and an eagerness to prove himself gambling. He grumbles under his older sister's caution but I think he'll be all right.

Phoebe is still intelligent and caring. She loves Eva like a sister and even though she'd want to see justice done, she delays her honeymoon just to help Miles. Phoebe worries a bit about her siblings and grandparents but asserts her independence. However, she doesn't figure out who the murderer is and her tea party could have gone horribly wrong. Eva has a such a big heart. She loves the Renshaw girls as little sisters, especially Phoebe, after all they've been through. She's way too noble and self-sacrificing though. Eva should know life is short and to seize happiness where and when you can. She certainly deserves it. Eva is tough and can hold her own. She doesn't back down when she knows she's right. Phoebe made a lot of mistakes accusing people and Eva did a bit too but the evidence did seem to point in that direction. Eva has faced and continues to face some scary people, including the arrogant city detective, and doesn't quake. She's also compassionate towards Lady Cecily and more understanding than Aunt Cecily's own family.

The men get in on the investigation too. Owen is devoted to Phoebe and he doesn't want her to get hurt but doesn't forbid her from doing anything. She wouldn't obey anyway. He's very sweet and loving. Their wedding night is described afterwards in terms of how Owen made Phoebe feel. The description was lovely. Owen is a good man. I'm glad he's sticking with his business and not listening to the old-fashioned elder generations. It just breaks my heart to know another war is coming and his business will boom with wool cloth for uniforms and his own sons may march off to war in uniforms made from the family's mills. Theo surprised me by getting involved with the investigation too. I didn't like how the men go behind the backs of the sleuths and go off alone.

The Renshaw grandparents are proud of their grandchildren. Grampapa has accepted the children are grown and Fox is included in tough discussions. Grams is still old-fashioned and sniffs at Phoebe's choice of wedding dress but she doesn't really mean to be critical of Phoebe herself, just that modern life is hard to accept. It's such a shame they lost their eldest son and the second son has been a disappointment. Uncle Grenville could join Prince Harry in the spare whining. He feels Phoebe's father was the golden child his parents preferred to him. Well... examine your own behavior! We don't know what he was like as a child or even Fox's age but as a younger adult he did something that would have broken his parents' hearts had they known. I think not. I think pre-war, his father would have paid off the constable and given his son a stern lecture and maybe disinherited the younger son. Grams might have been ashamed and upset if she had known. Instead, Greville turned to his brother-in-law, Burt. Now Grenville has become a whiny, bitter alcoholic who wants money but doesn't seem to be working towards getting any. He just likes to whine and pass judgment on how his father and nephew are running the estate. It sure sounds like he even plans to ensure Fox never inherits the Earldom! GASP! Greville's wife, Giovanna, is Italian She's flirty, sexy and doesn't conform to English ways. She's also kind of rude and clearly a gold digger. She sure tries to get cozy with Burt! Creepy. Giovanna is on my suspect list. Burt seems a little shifty too. He gets drunk with his brother-in-law and has encouraged Greville's more nasty and devious but Bert knows what Greville gets up to and doesn't share. He owes it to the memory of his late sister to at least protect Fox!

Julia's first husband's family are visiting for the wedding as well. I adore Aunt Cecily! Everyone seems to think she's senile and she does seem a bit confused but I bet in her head her mind is clear. I bet she holds the clue to the mystery and no one wants to hear what she has to say. Her niece, Lucille, is snappish and seems to be unhappy getting stuck caring for her elderly aunt. She's kinder than I expected her to be but not patient.

The suspect list begins by looking at people Isaac Perkins had arrested in the past. Ian McGowan was arrested in 1914 for horse theft and sent to prison. He deserted his regiment, stole a horse and attempted to ride for a doctor because his son was ill and instead was arrested. He lost his son, years of his life and when questioned, his wife claims she's been estranged from her husband for 8 years and doesn't need him around. She's a strong, capable woman who knows how to run a farm, a house and a business with the help of her surviving children. That loss must hurt though and the loss of her husband must have been rough at first. Could she have wanted revenge on the Chief Inspector? Where is Ian McGowan if he's not home with his family. Eva has her suspicions but Mrs. McGowan is a tough customer who will go to any lengths to defend her family. Could Ian McGowan, released? escaped? from prison have enacted revenge for the loss of his family and farm and those years spent in prison?

Then there's the Romany woman, Serena Blackwell, arrested for theft she claims she didn't commit. I see a pattern here. Serena is Romany, a Traveler, an outsider and faces great prejudice. She has a chip on her shoulder and doesn't appreciate Eva and Phoebe's overtures of kindness. She's wary and suspicious of them. The whole village is suspicious of the Romany and DI Perkins and now Inspector Brannidge keep trying to kick them out but legally the land belongs to Lord Wroxley who has said they can stay. The men work at odd jobs, the women do their laundry, raise their children, tell fortunes for entertainment and sell their beautiful handmade goods. Lord Wroxley sees the benefit in having the Romany around and Eva comes up with a good idea to get the villagers to see the Romany are people just like them. However, then they meet Serena's husband, Peregrin. He's a brute who brawls with his own brother. Peregrin is sexist and doesn't see the value in women except as his wife to meet his needs. He's abusive to Serena and the women, especially Eva, are concerned. Peregrin goes on the suspect list for his temper but I think he would be more likely to break Perkins's nose or beat the policeman to a pulp in a temper but this murder seems premeditated to me. Serena stands by her man as he denies the murder charge but when he threatens Eva, he doesn't seem so innocent.

In the village we meet Pippa Young, owner of the tea shop and baker of delightful treats. She's a single, female business owner and I want to applaud her for that. She seems to be doing well, the tea shop is busy at lunchtime. I like her as a friendly business owner but she's VERY prejudiced against the Romany. She's one who uses gypsy as a slur and has nothing nice to say, won't consider any other viewpoint other than the stereotype of dirty thieves. How sad for her. I don't understand people who have that much hate in their heart. Why? She is probably the one who framed Serena and if not Pippa than any other village woman who feels the same and happened to be at the haberdasher that day. Mrs. Matthison, Isaac Perkins's housekeeper is a valuable witness yet no one thought to question her before the book was almost done. Detective Brannidge is not doing his job properly.

Miles is such a nice young man. He's a good cop and a devoted boyfriend. I love Miles and Eva's relationship. He treats her as an equal and respects her intelligence. Miles knows Eva can help him solve this mystery and clear his name. Eva is more bold about visiting Miles at home at night, unchaperoned. Only because she has to. She's still a good girl.

I'm sad to say goodbye to these beloved characters but I'm glad the series is ending now. There's an epilogue so you do know what happens to some of them and can imagine the HEA for the rest.

Two Weddings and a Murder is the ninth and final book in the Lady & Lady's Maid Mystery series written by Alyssa Maxwell .... it is hard for me to wrap my head around that. When you're a reader and you find an author and/or series that you like, you want to read all of the books out there and it becomes a part of you. You look forward to the next book to be published so that you can return to the town, time period and people that you have grown to love.

Maxwell is going out with a bang with this final book, Two Weddings and a Murder ....

Main character Phoebe Renshaw gets married and she and Owen couldn't be happier but Phoebe notices her Lady's Maid and friend, more friend than maid really, is unsettled. Then she realizes that Eva's love interest Constable Miles Brannock missed the wedding. Sadly they learn why ... Chief Inspector Perkins did not show up to work and when the Constable when calling at his house, he found the Chief Inspector dead.

Unfortunately a detective was sent into town to investigate the murder and he immediately arrests Miles for the murder. Eva rushes to tell Phoebe and luckily Phoebe convinces her grandfather to go and talk to the detective. It is decided that Miles be placed on house arrest while the detective looks into the case. Phoebe and Eva know what that means so Phoebe convinces her new husband to postpone their honeymoon so they can also look into the case.

It is not going to be easy, and maybe that is what Maxwell wanted with this being the last book, because this is the longest suspect list ever !! There is a houseful of guests staying at Foxwood Hall as they are there for the wedding. Also Phoebe's grandfather has allowed a caravan of gypsies to camp on some of his property. Phoebe and Eva also learn that someone that the Chief Inspector sent to jail was recently released and he may feel he has reasons to kill him.

Okay so yes Phoebe will again uncover the truth and the guilty party will be arrested and everyone can breathe a sigh of relief and you will have a blast trying to keep up with everything.

Now let me take a minute to say a few things.

First I hope that you have been a devoted fan like myself and have fallen in love with the series, and will be a little sad that it must come to an end. If you aren't a fan and are thinking about it, please go grab copies of all the other books and this one and get cracking. You will completely love them.

Secondly I want to THANK Alyssa for writing this series and providing me with another town and another family to love. The times that I spend with one of the books in this series open were very happy times. I loved traveling back in time and experiences things through your eyes and brilliant mind.

Always a delightful series - great "thinking" mysteries and relatable characters, locale and era it was written for. A natural ending to the series, but one I will miss.

I enjoy reading historical mysteries and am always on the lookout for new-to-me authors. When I saw this book, I just had to try it and the author. I didn’t notice that it was the final book in the series, but that was not a problem. I had no trouble reading this as a standalone and following the characters and storyline.

Lady Phoebe Renshaw and her betrothed, Owen Seabright, are celebrating their wedding with friends, relatives, and servants and it is a joyous occasion for all. Eva Huntford, Phoebe’s lady’s maid, is especially joyful because she has served as both maid and close friend for many years – and she has a romance of her own. Speaking of Eva’s romance, why was he a no-show at Phoebe’s wedding ceremony?

Constable Miles Brannock finally arrives only to announce the murder of Chief Inspector Isaac Perkins had caused his delay. Oh! My! While Perkins was not well-liked, who would dislike him enough to murder him? Miles quickly begins his investigation only to be supplanted by a brutish Inspector from Scotland Yard – AND – that inspector quickly decides Miles is the murderer and arrests him.

Lady Phoebe and Owen quickly postpone their honeymoon to help Eva investigate because they are all positive Miles is not the murderer. There are many suspects – including Phoebe’s elderly aunt, Phoebe’s uncle Greville, a local farmer, a gypsy, and more. With many disparate suspects and no clues, the investigation is filled with twists, turns, and surprises.

I enjoyed the mystery and the characters, but, for me, the story seemed to drag. It was not a fast-paced, exciting mystery; but more of a slow-paced investigation. I also enjoyed seeing the storylines for the series all neatly tied up with the appropriate HEAs and good feelings all around. I would have liked to see a wrap-up for Uncle Greville and his wife Giovanna since they were front and center throughout much of the book. We learn the motives for their appearance in England, but there is no wrap-up. I would have liked to see Grampapa deal with them, but now we will never know.

While I enjoyed the mystery and the characters, I wasn’t inspired to go back and read the first books in the series. Perhaps that is because I wasn’t already invested in the characters due to that lack -I don’t know.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Alyssa Maxwell for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Two Weddings and a Murder coming out February 25, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

When Miles finally does appear, breathlessly running into the reception at Foxwood Hall, he brings grim news: he’s found Chief Inspector Isaac Perkins murdered, shot in his home in his favorite parlor chair with his own gun.

A policeman naturally makes enemies, especially those of questionable character. In charge of finding his former boss’s killer, Miles reviews the details of the crime scene. The murder weapon has been wiped clean and left on the table next to the remnants of the chief inspector’s breakfast: sausage pasty and coffee reeking of a bit of whiskey.

Coming to their maid’s defense, Phoebe and Owen postpone their honeymoon to join Eva in clearing her beau’s good name and unmasking the identity of the true killer . . .

I really love this author’s writing! I’ve read several of her books. This is a really fun series. It has been a while since I read the last book, so I had to remember some things. But I really love cozy murder mysteries. There was definitely a lot of drama in this book! Who doesn’t love drama at a wedding or two? I loved the progression in this book. I loved all of it! Hopefully there are more books in the series!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical cozy mysteries!

An interesting small town historical murder mystery.

It's June 1922 and Phoebe Renshaw and Owen Seabright are finally getting married. Her lady's maid, Eva Huntford, is excited but worried about the absence of her beau Constable Miles Brannock. It turns out that Chief Inspector Isaac Perkins was murdered, and the circumstances are confusing. When Scotland Yard arrives, they set their sites on Miles as the suspect, leaving Phoebe, Owen, and Eva to solve the mystery.

Full disclosure: I did not read the earlier books in this series. It's not strictly necessary to follow the plot, and I don't think it had an impact on my enjoyment. I liked the small town of Little Barlow and all the side characters. The historical setting was also fun.

I think that historical setting is also where I struggled a bit though. I think there was too much emphasis on the historical accuracy, so it came across very condescending about how "progressive' the Renshaws were being at every turn to actually be nice to Eva. I think there's an opportunity to take a step back from 100% historical accuracy and give us a story through a bit of a more modern sensibility while still giving the appropriate atmosphere.

Overall, if you enjoy cozy historical murder mysteries, definitely give this series a try. It is full of fun, quirky characters and the mystery will keep you guessing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for providing an advanced copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

A great way to end a book series I have loved from book one! I am so glad that the author gave us readers just one more book so we could see all the loose ends all tied up.

While I didn't love the addition of the obnoxious interim chief [he really was awful], I understand that he was necessary so Phoebe and Eva would work harder to free the Constable and bring him back to the town and to Eva. And work they do, solving more than one mystery along the way [as well as trying to bring together the community and the Romani group that are staying there on Phoebe's grandfather's land - they are mostly successful there because you know, people are going to people no matter what time frame we are in] and finding their "happy-ever-after"; it was glorious to see Phoebe and Eva work together one more time and that so many people helped in this one.

Well-written with a good mystery, good story [Phoebe's uncles are so...ergh, but added so much to the story], and a lovely send-off; I am so glad that I read this series and I will miss the stories and characters very much.

June 1922

Phoebe Renshaw is marrying her long-time beau, Owen. Phoebe’s lady’s maid and good friend, Eva, is thrilled to see her get married. However, she is disappointed that her own beau, Constable Miles Brannock, did not show up for the wedding. Later that day, he finally arrives to say that his boss, Inspector Perkins has been murdered. Perkins was a functioning alcoholic and had gained many enemies.

London sends down another man to take over the case and shortly he arrests Miles saying he murdered him. That’s when Phoebe’s father and Owen step in and get Miles released but he must remain on house arrest. Now, Phoebe and Eva gear up once again to try and solve the murder.

The women’s investigations include a large group of possible suspects which is this author’s signature way of keeping the reader guessing and trying to solve the murder. Quite clever! Phoebe and Eva have always worked well together with a mutual respect for one another. It was interesting how Phoebe put together a way to get the murderer to reveal themself. So, come enjoy yet another good mystery by Alyssa Maxwell.

3 1/2 stars. An enjoyable end of this series that started right at the end of the WWI in England and here in book 9, it is 1922 and Lady Renshaw and Owen are getting married. Her lady's maid, Eva, is happy for her but worries when her own beau does not show up for the wedding. He does later with the troubling news that Chief Inspector Perkins has been murdered. But things turn really bad when Miles is arrested for the murdered. Owen and Phoebe put their honeymoon on hold to help Eva prove Miles isn't the killer. There are plenty of suspects: the local Romany group that has stopped over at the Renshaw property; Phoebe's own uncles who have secret past with the Chief Inspector; a man with a grudge who was recently released from prison among others.

A decent mystery with a classic Golden Age gather of the suspects for a denouement and a number of characters get their happy ending. I enjoyed this mystery and the series in general that shows the changes brought about by WWI. The characters are entertaining and there is a nice romance for the two main characters.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I'm sad to say goodbye to this charming and cozy series, but Maxwell delivers a satisfying conclusion, tying up the storylines of Lady Phoebe and her loyal maid, Eva—though not without a murder along the way. The victim is none other than the odious Detective Inspector Perkins, a familiar and thoroughly unpleasant character. When a Scotland Yard detective accuses Eva's beau of the crime, Phoebe knows she must intervene to prevent a miscarriage of justice. Given Perkins' long list of enemies—from a man he once imprisoned to a group of gypsies he sought to drive out of town—there is no shortage of suspects. In the end, everything falls into place, and readers can rest assured that Phoebe and Eva will go on to lead happy lives. I've always admired Maxwell's ability to capture the essence of village life in the post-WWI years and the shifting dynamics of the aristocracy. This delightful series is best enjoyed in order. "Two Weddings and a Murder" will release Feb. 25. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC.

I thank NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for an advance reader copy of Two Weddings and a Murder. All opinions and comments are my own.

All good things must come to an end, and this final book in the “Lady and Lady’s Maid” mystery series delivers as Lady Phoebe Renshaw and her longtime maid and confidante Eva Huntford find their “happily ever afters” -- but not before there’s a murder to solve, and a policeman’s reputation to save; all in a day’s work for our intrepid duo.

There’s a little bit of everything in this one; old family secrets, gypsy encampments, unhappy wives with volatile husbands, and happily for our big finish, the batty, ancient female relative who nobody listens to but WHO SEES ALL. Suffice it to say that Lady Phoebe, with Eva’s capable help has it well in hand, and plots an afternoon to bring a culprit to justice. And wedding(s) we do have. Kudos for author Alyssa Maxwell for giving us readers two delightful characters in Lady Phoebe and Eva, and for bringing their story to a delightful (and entertaining) conclusion.

They thought everything in the world was perfect when Phoebe Renshaw and Owen Seabright married on a bright sunny day. Then someone shot the local chief inspector, but it was NOT Phoebe's lady’s maid Eva Huntford's beloved Police Constable Miles Brannock, the man who was locked up in jail by the man brought in by Scotland Yard. So the honeymoon was delayed and the newlyweds began their own investigation into this impossibility with the help of those relatives who knew this was not possible and had helped them with investigations in the past. Lots of red herrings and some really sneaky plot twists!
Nice escapist reading to see the bad guy get it in the end. I really enjoy this series!

I'm sad to bid farewell to Phoebe and Eva, the Lady and Lady's Maid of this nine book series. Its been fun to watch the growth of the two women, their developing relationship, and their relationship with the men in their lives. Marriage has always been a life disrupting event, and in the 1920's setting of this series, a career up-ending event as well. So while it makes sense that Eva and Phoebe need to grow apart, I'll miss this series.

The murder in this book is that of Chief Inspector Isaac Perkins. A universally disliked fellow, there are plenty of suspects, but a lazy inspector from London immediately seizes on his subordinate, Miles Brannock, Eva's boyfriend. Phoebe, Eva, and the Renshaws leap into action to avert a miscarriage of justice.

Two Weddings and a Murder is the latest and last book in the Lady and Lady’s Aid mystery series by Alyssa Maxwell. It is one of my favorite books in the series and I have enjoyed many of them! It was a great ending to the series and really wrapped everything up nicely. The murder was lots of fun to figure out as there were lots of suspects and so many people with motives! The weddings were great also! I won’t give any spoilers, but long time readers of the series will be delighted with the ending! I hope Alyssa Maxwell will keep writing! Her historical mysteries are well written and really well researched and a real joy to read!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. All opinions are my own.

Another wonderful mystery! Sadly, it is the last in this series, but two relationships that have progressed over the duration of the series have ended with happily-ever-after. However, one goes through a serious trial in this book that tests but does not break it. The mystery itself is the murder of the local inspector, and the person held is the junior constable Miles. As usual, there are twists and turns before the killer is revealed. While murder is wrong, for me personally, the perpetrator had just cause to commit the crime.

I love Alyssa Maxwell's writing, and I'm sad to see the series end. However, I'm looking forward to what she will do next. Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for this arc, which I voluntarily read and reviewed

Lady Phoebe and her maid (really, her friend) Eva find themselves scrambling to prove that Eva's beau Police Constable Miles Brannock did not murder the Chief Inspector - a horrible man- even as they are meant to be celebrating Phoebe's marriage (at long last) to Owen. I'm going to miss this series, which is a lovely variation on the cozy, set as it is in post WWI UK. The characters have always made me smile (well not all of them) and it's clever. This time out, you might recognize the victim for what he is and expect the long list of suspects but there are red herrings to deal with. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Maxwell obviously enjoys writing these mysteries-and this is a good read.

The last installment of this series wrapped everything up nicely. I always appreciate when a series ends without things having gone really downhill first. I appreciated that Phoebe and Eva have their own storylines in this book to focus on what each of their futures will hold. Great Aunt Celeste made me chuckle, there were many suspects to choose from for the murderer, and we get to know even more about Phoebe’s family members. I love Alyssa Maxwell books and look forward to seeing what she does next.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

The conclusion to Alyssa Maxwell's "Lady and Lady's Maid" series begins with the wedding of Lady Phoebe Renshaw and Owen Seabright. Phoebe's maid Eva Huntford frets because her beau, Constable Miles Brannon does not appear. After the weeding we learn that Miles was starting to investigate the murder of his superior, Chief Inspector Perkins. Then a Scotland Yard detective arrives to take over and arrests Miles for the murder.

Phoebe, Eva, Owen and others set out to clear Miles and find the real murderer. There are red herrings and subplots involving Phoebe's extended family before everything is resolved. A fitting end to a delightful series.

On Lady Phoebe’s wedding day, the joy of lady’s maid Eva turns to worry when her suitor, constable Miles, brings news of a murder in their quaint village. Suspicion falls on Miles, prompting the newlyweds to postpone their honeymoon so they can uncover the real killer.

This is the first book I’ve read in this series, and I had no trouble following it. I love the characters and the warm, caring relationships between them. The tone of the book is light and fun despite the serious subject matter. The mystery is clever and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the audiobook narration.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The final entry in the A Lady and Lady's Maid Mystery series by Alyssa Maxwell was perfect, and I don't say that lightly. Maxwell managed to not only present us with a perplexing mystery, but also to end the series by deftly bringing together all of the main characters and very believably showing us how much they've grown since the first book, Murder Most Malicious. She also added some wonderful historical color with a local tea room and a band of fascinating "travelers/gypsies."

I really hate to see this series end--I'll miss Phoebe and Eva, their family at Foxwood Hall, and the sometimes-murderous townsfolk in Little Barlow.

Another wonderful murder mystery that kept me guessing till the end. I really didn’t guess who did it. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. The characters are wonderfully written and very relatable. The mystery was well thought out, with lots of twists and turn and surprises you didn’t see coming. It was a slow comfortable mystery with no action but that did not take away from the enjoyment of the mystery. I am sad to see this series end as I had only started reading a couple of books back. I now look forward to what this author has instore for us in the future. I received this as an ARC from Netgallley and freely give my review.

This is the ending to an enjoyable series of cozy mysteries and a family. Phoebe and Owen have married
When Miles runs in and tells them that Chief Inspector Issac Perkins has been murdered..Now the chase
Begins to find out who and how Issac was murdered. There is a lot of action, suspense, drama, secrets , and
Planning until Phoebe discovers the real killer and motive. The people were realistic, nice and family with
Backgrounds to explore. The plot was good and the story moved at a good pace and kept you engaged.
Many characters from previous books was brought into play. All ended well. Recommended

I was very fortunate to be able to read an ARC of this mystery. I had not read any of the previous 8 in the series. I so enjoyed Two Weddings and A Murder by Alyssa Maxwell. I’m going to read the prior 8 books in the series. The plot line kept me interested all the way through. Loved the characters and all the family dynamics. Don’t miss it when it’s released. Thank you Georgian Bay Books in Midland,Ontario for the chance to find a (new to me) author and to Kensington Publishing for the Advanced Reading Copy.

Phoebe Renshaw and Owen Seabright are celebrating their marriage with family and friends. When Police Constable Miles Bannock is arrested for the murder of his superior, the chief inspector. Phoebe and Owen delay their honeymoon to help lady's maid Eve Huntford prove Miles' innocence. As more is learned about the inspector's past, the suspect list grows. A satisfying end to the series.

I knew the inspector of the village was a real schmuck, but wow! He made enemies over the course of his career. Which ended in his murder. Phoebe postpones her honeymoon to find the murderer since Eva's beau Miles is a suspect. I'll back up here. Phoebe has finally married her dream man, Owen. It's about time! Will Eva ever marry? This is an involved mystery with lots of suspects and a wonderful wrap up for the series. I'll really miss this family.

I love the stories written by this author and this was not exception!

Phoebe and Owen are finally getting married, but on their happy day, Phoebe's friend and lady's maid Eve, is wondering where her beau Miles could be. When he shows up he brings bad news of the chief inspector being found dead.

When suspicion turns to Miles for the dead, all hands on deck. A wonderful journey that will keep you turning the pages until the end!

This was an entertaining mystery with no clue's and lots of suspects. This leads to lots of head scratching and having to think out of the box to try and catch the culprit. It a shame it's the last in the series although I can see why this has to be. I will just have to go back and read the earlier books, I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Loved this final installment in the series. It has been so good to follow these wonderful characters through the murders they have solved and to see them develop and mature along the way. This was a great series and though I’m sad to see it end, Alyssa left her readers quite satisfied with the conclusion.

A fun historical mystery with lots of twists and turns and many suspects. This book ends The Lady and Lady’s Maid mystery series. I particularly enjoyed this end of a perfectly lovely series.
