There comes a time in every young man’s life where he has a crisis of identity and purpose.
I just never expected mine to be so literal.
I suddenly found myself thrust into another world, summoned by a spell gone wrong. If that wasn’t weird enough, apparently the man who did the spell was my doppelganger and the star pupil in this crazy fantasy world’s most prestigious magic academy.
But why did we swap places? Why do we look so similar? And why can I suddenly control elements like I’m an extra in Avatar the Last Airbender?
If I’m going to make it back home, I’ll need to find the answers to these questions. All while faking my way through magic classes, fighting mage duels, and dodging suspicious teachers who are convinced my new friends and I are out to topple the evil regime ruling this world.
Elemental Mage is a story of a man switched with another person in another world, one where the other person was a great mage. Things don't go well, and of course, (no surprise), the book description is a bit misleading. No doubt, those things need to happen, and probably will, but some of them don't happen in this book, so guess they're waiting for future books in the series. But, nonetheless, if you're a fan of magic academy stories, then this one is a perfect one to add to your read list. I liked this one, and am very likely to read more in the series.
I can't wait to read the next book. Another series that I will devour to read from Eric Vall. Thomas is such a great character that I can't help but love. Thomas & Kell get swapped into each other's worlds, and Thomas gets swept into a magical world. Not much is known about what's going on with Kell on a magicless world that Thomas comes from, but with the help of Kell's friends, it will be hard to get them swapped back. It's still a mystery that they are identical to each other, and Thomas can use magic in this new world.
I appreciate an author's work because what they do isn't exactly easy. With that said, I've read another recent book by this author and both have 1 thing in common and that is pretty much 90% starting from the beginning is mostly just all talking with no depth to engage the readers while the last 10% is the build up to the next book with very lil action altogether. Sorry but won't be reading the next book and the only good thing about this book is that it was a quick read.
Normally Vall's first book in a new series is the best one. This was bland with zero suspense or interesting plot. Weak dialogue and characters with almost no plot movement through the whole book. Obvious tropes with an obvious antagonist. It felt like AI writing...just plain bland storytelling to a set up to a Scooby Doo episode. Weak plot and writing. Dont bother with this one, its a waste of time!
So, when I first started this book, I was a tad concerned about the MC needing to fake being his other worlds double.
But the more I read it, the more intriguing the book got. I'm still not keen on the MC having to pretend, but am willing to keep reading to see what happens next.
Conceptually good definitely has entertainment value. Not up to the authors usual standards of prose. Lower than usual amount of sex scenes - good thing. How magic works is not explained and its different enough from the usual tropes that an explanation is needed. Given the authors past work my expectation is that the next volume will fix most of the problems.
Yanked to a new world without knowing g how or why, Thomas is looking for a way back home... eventually! The new world he finds himself in is magic based, and has some nice perks.
Truly love this new series by Eric Vall. The Black World is very interesting. There are so many intriguing storylines in book one that I definitely can’t wait to see more of this world in Book 2.
This was a thrilling and fun adventure in a remarkable new world by this author! The chemistry between the characters and mystery of the story really made for a great read! I eagerly await.the next one!
Not sure what I think. I enjoyed the story though I kept waiting for it to pick up the pace. I am also really unsold on the magic framework and the fights. But I will read the next book
300 pages of meh. I mean, the premise is interesting, but there's not really a story here. The characters just kind of bounce around like balls in a pin-ball machine without really a growth arc. I know nothing about the world they are on that I didn't learn in the first few pages.
This is a unique storyline. The way Thomas was transferred to another world was pretty cool. The story is getting good. I went and downloaded the second book to continue this story.
