I loved this 90 day devotional. It shows that you can keep Jesus in all work related situations. The power move and my confession were very insightful and the best part 🤗
"Carol Mackey has done a masterful job of incorporating the practicality of God's Word into daily meditations. The down-to-earth insights she shares meet us where we really live and will empower all who read Sistergirl Devotions. Carol does not shrink from the real issues we often struggle with. She addresses them boldly, giving clear answers and 'power moves' to equip us to have the victory we long to experience in our everyday lives."--Michelle McKinney Hammond, author of The Power of Being a Woman "Sistergirl Devotions is by far one of the best self-help books I have read in a very long time. It is truly awesome, and Carol Mackey masterfully weaves in Scripture, invaluable wisdom, and her own personal experiences. Sistergirl Devotions is a wonderfully written must-read for women everywhere. Absolutely brilliant!"--Kimberla Lawson Roby, New York Times bestselling author; author of A Deep Dark Secret and Be Careful What You Pray For "Carol Mackey's Sistergirl Devotions delivers inspiring daily nuggets that will warm the soul and motivate every reader to succeed on the job for the Lord."--Stephanie Perry Moore, author of the Payton Skky series and the Beta Gamma Pi series Sistergirl Devotions by Carol M. Mackey is broken down into 90 life lessons. This book is ideal for a Women's Bible Study Group or a focused Sunday School Class. Mackey's chapter titles are so informative for a Christian education teacher that they can create their own Sunday School Class Curriculum coupling twelve life lessons together, which have similar subject matters (i.e. working moms, working wives, office politics.)
Most importantly, readers can use this book as a guide to help them navigate themselves toward and through the corporate ceiling without having to lay down their religion to get there.
Sistergirl Devotions is more than a devotional. Mackey gives partners life lessons with personal anecdotes, scriptural reference, action plans [her power moves] and guided prayer for readers to use when they connect with a topic. Kudos!
This is a good devotional book not just for African-American woman, but for any woman (or human being, for that matter) who works outside of the home. It's geared specifically toward evangelical Christians, and as someone who has left the evangelical "brand" of Christianity, I didn't really connect with every aspect of this book, but overall, it's full of practical reminders and advice. My only frustration is that while each devotion had a biblical reference, it seemed in many cases that the lesson was not derived from Scripture first, but that the lesson was derived first from the author's life, and as if she then had to go find Scripture that would support that lesson based on her personal experience. So, for a devotional book that's evangelical in perspective and biblically-based, it seemed a little "off" to me at times.
Just one more side note: this is definitely a devotional. It is not a Bible study or a theological exploration of the various topics it touches on. The content is intellectually frothy, yet for the layperson it's quite practical.
Carol Mackey has done an awesome job incorporating the practicality of God's Word into daily meditations. We sometimes get so busy at work we don't take the time to stop and give God his daily praise. When I purchased this book I was at work browsing Amazon for other books to read and this came across my suggest material and I realized that since reading has always been a passion then I need to devote myself to reading and expanding my spiritual mind of at least one book a week. This was my first book by Carol Mackey and she has put keeping Jesus in the the workforce for me front and center.
