When Prince Gareth of Acuniel accepted orders to bring aid to a neighboring ally, he saw it only as a chance to prove himself a worthy replacement for his errant brother. He never thought it would lead to him falling for his host’s daughter–a beautiful, guarded young woman condemned for her physical disability. Yet Lady Rienna, shackled by secrets and mistrust, has no interest in a romance.
Heartbroken by her rejection, Gareth returns home, ready to put the matter behind him. But his homecoming is far different than expected, and only serves to deepen his wounds.
Nearly a year later, Gareth once again finds himself riding to the Kingdom of Linton’s aid–and this time, the stakes are much higher. Faced with conquering a city in order to prevent Rienna from being given to an abusive man, Gareth knows he must do everything possible to succeed. Rienna may not love him… But how could he ever forgive himself if he left her to such a fate?
The Warrior Prince is inspired by the story of Othniel from the Biblical book of Judges, and is book four in The Royals of Acuniel series.
Ashton has loved books for as long as she can remember, and at age fourteen, that love became a passion when she began writing her own novels. She currently resides in Conroe, TX with her real-life prince–AKA her husband, Austin. When not writing, Ashton can be found reading, spending time with family, serving at the church she’s attended since childhood, or drinking copious amounts of chai tea. Her greatest desire as a writer is to point readers to the ultimate Author—Jesus.
This is another fabulous addition to those medieval /Bible based adaptions story lines! Unlike the others with an Esther, The Prodigal Son, Ruth and Naomi, etc I wasn't as familiar with it as it was quite short anyway but Ashton's imagination created a marvelous retelling and elaboration as such. It also included themes of forgiveness with the inclusion of the former prodigal brother Roland from "The Runaway Prince" book. The story was captivating and spiritually encouraging; the loving Queen from earlier showed such love and grace towards a main character as she talked about despite this ole world being a dark and evil place many times, God never leaves us nor forsakes us.
I enjoy her tales immensely, can certainly recommend to anyone really, and will be looking forward to buying and reading the fifth and final one in the series!
No official "review" since it's my book, but I am so excited to share this story with readers! 💙👑 Gareth is a cinnamon roll hero I think you'll love and his slow-burn love story with Rienna is the sweetest. 😍 But as much as I hope everyone enjoys the romance, I hope and pray the message connects with readers' hearts above all!
If you love these things, you might love this book: - He falls first - Grumpy vs Sunshine - Only one horse - "I would die for her" - Disability representation - Sweet sibling relationship - Royalty - Themes of forgiveness, healing from trauma, and how God is present in every part of our story
Here's a few content warnings you may want to be aware of: - Romance between the MC's is very clean, with kisses only - Non-graphic description of a past sexual assault - Parental abuse (primarily mental and emotional) - A few PG to PG-13 level fighting scenes
I wasn't sure I could like this one as much as The Runaway Prince - even after I started it - but by the end, I loved Gareth every bit as much as Roland. I really loved the continued Prodigal Son storyline in this one and how the brothers' relationship developed. I thought it started slow, which I mention just to say this: if you feel that way too, keep going, because the last two thirds is where all the action is and it's worth it. The faith threads throughout the whole story as well as character development are great and deeply moving.
I thought no other Ashton Dorow book could beat the special place that “The Peasant Queen” has in my heart, but wow! This one might have done it! Gareth totally stole my heart with his love and respect for Rienna, and the way that Rienna’s heart slowly thawed to Gareth’s gentle, patient, persevering love was so beautiful. I think one of my favourite things about this book was how the other Royals of Acuniel were featured so prominently. We didn’t get to see much of them all together in “The Love of a Princess” or “The Runaway Prince”, so having a good dose of them in this book was really the best (although we missed Adelaide, of course!) Tillie was definitely a stand-out supporting character, and I am SO excited to get her story in the next book of the series! Overall, this book was a definite five star read for me! Make sure to check this series out! 😊
This was so good!! Oh my gosh—guys I’ve bawled again over another book in this amazing series! I haven’t been able to hold my tears reading any of the books in this series. The way Miss Dorow’s Christian themes/truths always grab my heart out, shake it, and then put it back in is unmatched. The story of redemption and unrequited love between Rienna and Gareth was so compelling. I could not put this book down for a second! I really felt for Rienna and her struggle to trust herself, others, and God. I loved how we got to see Arabella as a mother and how she spread her love to Rienna in the most beautiful way. All the characters were crafted so well and you really felt for all of them. If you love Christian medieval romance, unrequited love (or is it?), redemption arcs, dealing with the struggle to trust and forgive, high stakes, Biblically accurate truths, and loveable characters, you have to read this book now!
The Royals of Acuniel series by Ashton E. Dorow is a charming medieval christian young adult romance series that focuses on one couple at a time but acknowledges and tells you how the other couples are doing from the previous books (so minor spoilers if you read out of order).
The Warrior Prince by Ashton E Dorow is the fourth book in the five book series and focuses on the other half of the Prodigal Son parable from the Bible. Book three, The Runaway Prince, focused on Roland and how he ran away from God, family, and duty before coming home. The Warrior Prince focuses on the pride and arrogance of the second son, Gareth, as he moves through healing and acceptance and falls in love with his own love interest. Rienna is the rejected daughter of a Lord, struggling with the bitterness of grief and deformity in a world that rejects her. Will these two be able to move through the hurt, find God in their loneliness and grief, and be vulnerable with each other?
I absolutely loved The Warrior Prince with it being my favorite book of the series so far. It deals with the loss of a loved one and the related grief faithfully as well as learning to love yourself and allowing others (including God) to love you when you feel undeserving or unlovable. The themes of forgiveness and salvation are prevalent for young readers. It does deal with other difficult topics but is careful to not give too many details and remain appropriate for young teens. The characters make mistakes but don’t stay in their sin. They learn and forgive and move on as they come to know God’s peace and love. Highly recommended for young budding romance readers.
My favorite in this series after the Peasant Queen. Gareth is the best. I liked him so much better than Roland, who was selfish.
Rienna is harder to like. But her hesitation is due to fear rather than the coldness she wears like a protective coat. But Gareth is so sweet and trustworthy that you wish she'd open up a little sooner. But then you wouldn't have the raw, emotional tale Ashton has woven with many layers.
This was the first book of the series I read, and oh my God, it carved a path of emotion so deep in me, I wonder why it took me so long to actually get to reading it.
I enjoyed every inch of this story. Fun fact, this would be my very first attempt at reading a new genre: historical fiction (specifically, European period fiction) but it was so immersive that I could feel myself living out each scene. The details were so aptly described.
And the message of the story, wow! It touched me deeply. I was even more impressed by how the author was able to weave the biblical storyline of Othniel and also the battle strategy that eventually led to the victory over Ai. It made so much sense. God bless the wonderful author for such a beautiful story,
I'm glad I got the ARC copy and now I'm off to read other preceding books in the series.
4.5 ⭐️ enjoying this series so much more than I thought. Such good themes and great twists on biblical stories. Each one has such a nice swoony romance and some good action. This one has elements of the older brother in the prodigal son, Othniel, and the battle of Ai.
A Beautiful Work of Art. This book is the 4th installment in this author’s Royals of Acuniel series. This book was so easy to read. It was full of love, adventure, hope, anguish, promise, danger, and intrigue, and joy. This book takes the reader on an adventure.
The characters in this book are steady and strong, humble and relatable. The author spends a great amount of time in her character development and shows throughout the arc of the story. While this book is stand alone, watching the development of the main character in this story, shows its depth and care.
While all of the story is amazing, I believe pieces of literature can also be a work of art. This story is no different. Several passages in this book have spoken to me in a deep personal level. The author’s love and care for her characters shines through, as does her faith in Jesus.
This book is a wonderful read, that was impossible to put down.
This book is all about forgiveness, trusting in God, and taking chances. Rienna I was so wanting to scream say YES! to Gareth's proposal of courtship. But you could tell she didn't feel worthy and had been so mistreated that she couldn't risk saying yes quite yet.
Rienna is so relatable to me. I may not of had all her struggles, but I have a disability too. Mine is invisible, but you still have the same struggles as ones like Rienna were it is obvious.
I 🩵LOVED the scene when Gareth finally picks Rienna up in his arms and twirls her around. I thought that was sooo swoony he thought of a way to help her not feel so embarrassed. But that would embarrass him probably🤣
I also🩵LOVED how the author managed to have chemistry be strong and then wanting to be released. However, Rienna suppressed it and when she let it out 😍😍😍😍. So much chemistry going on. Also this book is paced so you just keep wanting to know what happens next.
I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Yet another amazing book by Ashton! I found myself crying multiple times through my reading of The Warrior Prince. Just as the tapestry that was talked about, God’s truth we often struggle with was woven into this unique story. Gareth was actually the most dreamy hero! I was very much swooning. I truly enjoyed every page of this book! I can’t wait to read Princess Matilda’s story!
Another stunning novel from the pen, or should we say keyboard, of Ashton E Dorow. Up until a few months ago, I had never read one of her books, but after picking up The Peasant Queen, I couldn’t stop. I flew through the first three books in The Royals of Acuniel series and have been waiting in anticipation for The Warrior Prince, book 4 in the series, and now having read it, I am ready for Book 5.
The Warrior Prince is the story of Prince Gareth, and his quest to save the fair, yet “damaged” Lady Rienna. It is a beautiful love story, even though there are a few times you want to grab the two of them and shake some sense into their duty-bound heads. It is a story about the difference the love of a family can make, a story about love between siblings, and love for your fellow man. It is a story about the importance of forgiveness, and how bitterness and selfishness can destroy a life.
If you haven’t read the entire series I highly recommend starting at Book 1, and enjoying the saga of the Royals of Acuniel, as Ashton takes you through their lives using stories from the Bible as inspiration for her novels. Just beware, once you start, you are not going to want to stop.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author, but the views and opinions are my own, and I would read all her books again.
Ashton Dorow never fails to deliver a phenomenal medieval romance with all the royal intrigue, loveable and relatable characters, and strong faith elements. The Warrior Prince is no exception.
From the start, I was sucked in. There was no needing to get "into" the story. I so enjoyed getting to continue the rivaling brothers, Gareth and Roland's story, and was reduced to tears through the beauty of forgiveness. The relationship between Gareth and Rienna was precious...albeit I wished they both would've spoken sooner haha.
After reading this book, it makes me want to go back and read the rest of the series all over again, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment. Dorow's writing is so easy to follow and her descriptions completely transported me to the world of Acuniel. It was sad to have to say good-bye to the characters...for now. I also have to say, her battle planning is impressively awesome!!
Don't miss out on this beautiful, gripping story.
I received a digital copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily shared.
I loved these characters so much. The journey they went on together as well as apart grew them so much. Garett had to learn that forgiveness is not just forgetting what someone has done, but rather choosing to love them even though they can hurt you again. Rienna had to learn where her worth truly comes from. From start to finish this book kept me captivated. I was able to finish it in a few days, considering I’m in college.
My thanks to the author for a complementary copy, all opinions are my own.
Just finished reading this in one sitting. As usual, Ashton has woven a fantastic story with characters you love (and some you love to hate). This one had some darker themes than the previous three books but it's redemption story and reminder that God loves everyone, no matter their past sins, was heartbreakingly beautiful. I recommend this even if you haven't read the others books!
I read books 1 to 3 prior to the new addition and they all have easily been 5 star reads. I love them so much, they are absolutely awesome! But if I had to pick a favorite it would be the Warrior Prince!
It is full of action and emotion, full of wonderful but not perfect characters, full of sweet and tender moments, full of faith and redemption.
I loved the character development and how Gareth's patience and care slowly took Rienna over. She is very reluctant to fall for him but she doesn’t really stand a chance and I couldn’t read fast enough to see the two of them interact. They are both characters I grew really fond of and it was easy to empathize with both of them, even despite Rienna’s outward coldness.
What I loved the most were the sibling relationships. The bond between Rienna and her brother is so strong, their love for each other unmatched. They were the absolute sweetest! Minor spoiler ahead! -
The Warrior Prince is the perfect Christian medieval romance with high stakes, redemption arcs, Gospel truths and characters I can’t get enough from! Can’t wait to read about them again when Tillie’s story comes out! If I could, I would love to give this series 10 stars!
* Thank you to the author for letting me read an advanced copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily and the expressed opinions are my own.
Just when I think this series couldn’t get any better, Ashton releases another book. 😍 The Warrior Prince is my new favorite in the Royals of Acuniel series! This book was inspired by the story of Othniel, found in the book of Judges in the Bible. With so little to go on, Ashton did an amazing job weaving a stunning story full of heart-pounding action, swoony romance, gritty and real human moments, and raw and beautiful faith struggles and triumphs.
Nicholas, the main male character in her second book of the series, To Love a Princess, had been my favorite in the series… until now! In rushes Gareth in all of his cinnamon roll sweetness! 🥰 The best thing about Gareth is he is the PERFECT kind of cinnamon roll. I say this to say that you shouldn’t be deceived by his ooey, gooey, sweet center! He is a strong, morally driven, swoony action hero and is just the perfect guy to swoop in on his loyal steed to save the day. 😂 He isn’t perfect in the sense that he is without flaws - we get to see this play out on the pages too! Ashton does an amazing job at balancing her characters so that their true faith struggles show through - the good and the ugly! It is part of what makes these stories so inspiring.
I don’t want to say too much on this topic and give away spoilers but the disability rep in this book had my emotions in a choke hold! Lady Rienna’s unfortunate start to her life taints how she sees everything going forward. Between what life has dealt hurt and the emotional falling out she has as a result of these events, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so broken for a literary character before as I have for Rienna.
Thanks to the author’s generosity, I was gifted a copy of this book to read. A positive review was not required and all words in this review are truly my own.
After putting it off for so long I finally finished this book. There are so many on my list it’s hard to pick sometimes. TWP was such a good story. Gareth seems like he’d be a quiet guy but he really isn’t, and has such strength of character. He’s noble. Rienna has a lot of issues I think we all deal with at times. Yes, she had a cruel upbringing, but the enemy of our soul will whisper lies to us. If we are not seeking the Lord and putting Him first, we start to believe those lies as truth. I especially loved the reunion at the ending. The tears were flowing. Very much looking forward to reading the next book! Thank you Ashton for another great book!

I have enjoyed each of the stories in this series and am always so impressed at how Ashton E. Dorow manages to reel me into the new characters so flawlessly while ALSO writing beautifully rendered Biblical retellings.
I adored the insta-love element of this story, but the slow burn and tension between the main characters was used SO WELL for faith ARCs and Christian redemption before they get their HEA.
While I thought the prodigal son retelling, The Runaway Prince, would be hard to top in the series, The Warrior Prince, in my opinion, dove so much deeper into complex emotions and relatable Gospel messages for today despite the medieval time period of the story.
Highly recommend this book and this series! *I received an early copy but all opinions are my own*
I absolutely loved this!! 😍 Ashton knows how to write a story full of strife, fear, hope, love, forgiveness, and learning to accept God’s love and will for your life. Everything about this book was so good, and I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know what happened next for Rienna, Gareth, and the outcome of the battles. The fights were so well written, the romance perfection, and the faith elements woven in beautifully. I’m so excited to start my ARC of the next book, but also sad because it will be the end of the series!
Ashton's Gareth is a beautiful character. His doubt and fears help him to grow. I clapped when he ran out to find his brother. It was like he heard Jesus give the command 'drop the offering at the altar and reconcile with your brother'.
Subtle themes of redemption and grace. I loved it.
I will have to admit it was a little slow in the beginning but a few chapters in when I picked the book back up in late August I COULD NOT put it down! Well done!
I’ve read all 4 of these books and I loved every single one of them. I love that you can read the books on their own, but if you follow the series, you learn more about some adjacent characters from the previous book! This one again was one that I couldn’t put down and couldn’t flip the pages fast enough! Even if you know the storyline, she still keeps you guessing.
I've seen this series around for a little while now, but I haven't read fantasy in a few years, and only recently really looked into the series. I ended up starting with the second to the last book (I always recommend you read series in order, but here we are, haha) and I did find that I could enjoy this one fine on it's own (although it's clear that at least the book before should have been read first, since Roland's story ties into this one).
The story took me a few chapters to really get into, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I did double-check that it was a non-magical fantasy, and saw that it was loosely based on a Biblical story though, so that intrigued me. This one surprised me though! Once things started to pick up, I quickly found myself glued to the pages, and ended up loving the story! The characters are well-written, and I loved watching their story unfold. This one deals with feelings of being unloved, and unlovable, and struggles with forgiveness, both toward ourselves and for others.
