With the attack countdown ticking toward zero, Mark and Perry pitch themselves headfirst into a seemingly impossible mission. One intended to break Gyl-Mareth's hold on the Guild, and thus the galaxy, once and for all. But first, Peaceful Skies must fall.
Their strike is silent and deadly. Justice prevails. As a veteran and battle-tested soldier, Mark Tudor understands one key truth—violence is never a straightforward affair. Even the best laid plans can crumble. And when working against a savvy predator, one should always expect the unexpected.
Unfortunately, one success does not necessarily lead to another, and in a surprising move, Mark and Valint find themselves on the defensive. Even formidable warriors possess weakness, and unfortunately, Gyl-Mareth doesn't just know what it is, but where.
Prepare for the final, explosive chapter in the Peacemaker Wars saga, and see how one man wrestles civilized space back from the brink.
GREAT BOOK AND GREAT SERIES THAT WILL HOLD YOUR INTEREST THROUGHOUT
Casualties of Consequence (Peacemaker Wars Book 6) by J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert is a well written story of determination, hope, sacrifice, loss, and success. The characters are well defined, and you'll find yourself routing for Mark, Perry, Netty, Valint, Tan, and all the others that battle the corruption within Anvil Dark.
I was a little disappointed with the ending, which I really thought was a little rushed to complete the book and series. That being said, I still enjoyed reading it and hope you will, too.
Quotes:
"This guy's so stuffy his farts probably smell like mothballs."
"To be hated for what she was, and not who. The idea pushed him past anger to sadness. How could someone fight that kind of hatred?"
"Sometimes the best leaders are those that don't want the position."
I don't usually give books 5 stars unless they're completely amazing. But a day after finishing it, I am missing the characters. I am missing Mark Tudor and the voice that Tom Taylorson gave him. I still want to know what the "drop" is and even went back and re-read the first book in hopes of a description. I did learn what a BAR is but that was it, still wondering about the Drop. In the modern day it's a gun owned by someone that's used to frame someone else. Or left at a crime scene. Makes me think I need to re-read the entire series just to find out - which would be a pleasure!
But who cares? The scene of a battered, bruised, falling down on his feet Mark sitting with a new baby in the pilot's chair just melted my heart. This was the best mix of space battles and romance and sweetness. Well done, Mr. Maggart. I'm mourning the end of this series, but I'm looking forward to Van and Torina's children - and how grandma Valint handles that.
After reacting for most of the series, we go on the offensive...
The battle to free Anvil Dark and the Peacemakers begins, but will Gyl-Mareth still be there or has he found out Mark and Valint's secret as the stakes become even more personal. The gravity defying Sharvix shake things up and we learn more about them and the epilogue points to a new spinoff relating to this.... Battles galore pepper this final novel in The Peacemaker Wars, along with intrigue, suspense, surprise, technological prowess, sacrifice and satisfaction as the series ends on a high. An enjoyable tale intertwined with the never give up mentality of a successful World War I soldier... as Mark of course is...A new dawn beckons, though fake news rears its ugly head, perhaps undermining the new regime, and Yotov is introduced...
A very event packed mini series, worth reading for background
This final book deals with the show down we've all been waiting for with Gyl-Mareth.
As is common with a lot of these books, when you think that a step forward has been taken, you find a backwards shuffle coming.
The Stillness never seem to die and there are so many groups that are out for nefarious reasons, it shouldn't be a surprise.
I'm glad I've finished this mini series as I was saving a batch of what I thought were the final five Backyard Starship books to read. Only to find out there will be up to ten more to read. And, the First Peacemaker has just been thrown into the mix.
It's going to be a busy summer of reading. Bring it on.
Mark, Valint and the other core members of honest Peacemakers are keeping extremely busy with their work to resolve the utterly chaotic mess that seems to be a deliberate aspect of the evil machinations of the disgraced master Gil-Maleth. The mental and physical pain is building up as they are forced to flit from one insane battle to the next without respite. As his typical behavior prevents him from doing anything else, Valint, Perry & Netty are increasingly concerned (to frustration!) by the number & particularly the severity of the injuries that Mark is overcoming by sheer, stubborn determination. The book closes with a twist that I hadn’t expected. Time will tell if it proves satisfying or not…
Have you ever come across a series that is hard to review? The one that leaves looking for the proper words to convey what you feel? To me, this is one of those. I am not really big on doing reviews for that reason, and count the number of reviews I've done on one hand. This series can stand on its own. Because of the knowledge from reading other works in this universe it stands out even more. One could not ask for a better finale... (about 8 hours start to finish...) chuckles & tears included. Please enjoy the read... you will be glad you did. (And the tease of more to come...)
And so the last of the Peacemaker Wars series comes to an end. I was a really great read. The series centers around Mark Tudor, Van's grandfather (Back Yard Star Ship) and how corruption has filled the ranks of the Guild. I really enjoyed this series and wished that it could have continued but where it ended left open the possibility of more stories so that is fantastic! Like the meeting of between Alexander and Petyr Groshenko in 1982. and the story of the FIRST PEACEMAKER Alexander. So while I am sad for the story line to end, I am happy that there is more to come for Mark and Valint and their son. Thank You J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert you two are truly wonderful Bards.
....then it ended rather weakly. There was a huge buildup to the Peacemaker War, that when it finally came to it, actual war was more of a skirmish and the story telling was a bit drawn out and rushed at the same time. Drawn out because some battle scenes suffered from too much sci-fi mumbo-jumbo details, while other scenes skipped right through with little tension. Overall, I liked the series. It is a good addition to the Backyard universe.
This series comes to a close as a starting point to yet another story line. I can't speak highly enough about J.N. Chaney and his ability to tell a story that keeps the reader locked in from cover to cover and book to book. For a roller coaster ride of thrills, adventure and emotion you have to pick up a copy of anyone of his book series to become an instant fan.
This was a great series. Sad that this was so short and easily my favorite in the Backyard Starship universe. The real shocker here is that we are teased with the possibility that Calamity was most likely created by Tan.

This book is the most exciting of the entire series right from the start. Mr.. Chaney and Mr. Maggert have crafted an excellent story that is very difficult to put down.
I started this series after reading most of the Backyard Starship series. After finishing this book it is obvious that I'll have to reread the other series. This series placed so much of the other in context.
I have not enjoyed a series as much as these about the peacemakers. And of course, "my backyard spaceship". The characters are unique and universal at the same time. What a blessing to enjoy these stories!
Mark and Perry use a very dangerous method to invade the Sunderbach station as part of their search for the evil and elusive Gil-Mareth. The hunt continues as interstellar politics tries to confuse the real issues. A great story.
Well written, Excellent character development, Cohesive story line with depth To it. The series is prologue to the backyard starship series. Both are excellent And extremely well written.
I love these books! It’s easy to connect to the characters that populate them. The stories of these folks are very entertaining. I look forward to reading many more of them.
Well backyard starship peacemaker awards, and the first peacemaker are all a great adventures of this wonderful world that was created Maggert and Chaney. And as I currently said just outside of Frankenmuth Michigan, I'm going to go have some cheese.
Practically a book long battle. New beginnings and new maturity among much grief. A good, if very brutal book. Hope there is at least one more volume in this series.
