I would rather watch jaws.
Stripes: A Deep-Sea Thriller by Brian Gatto is about a large tigershark that gets into drugs that have leaked into the ocean from a drug drop near some underwater powerlines.
The shaark goes crazy for drugs and eats people. There is more to it, but you get my drift.
This thriller wasn't very thrilling.
It's a bit unrealstic, childish word useage, and just not very exciting.
Stripes started off good, but it quickly lost itself in the relationship between drugs and the characters involved, and i honestly think that one or more sharks needed to perish.
I found it quite hard to stay interested.

Fun!
Stripes is a typical killer shark story and I really liked it. There's a couple different plotlines happening all at once but it keeps the story busy. The extra plots keep things exciting, especially a fisherman subplot. The characters are solid and the action is good.
Overall, it's a fun Shark thriller that I recommend to Shark fans like myself.

Quick and decent shark thriller. Lots of gore. A little slow in the beginning which is weird to say as the book is under 200 pages. But a coked out 32 foot tiher shark definitely takes over quick enough. A little thrown by the dolphins.

I have to say, this book really surprised me. It was fast-paced, it was well written and it was a quick and enjoyable read!
We follow multiple groups of people on an island where a drug operation is on the go, and we follow both the drug dealers and the police. We however also follow the shark that has been ingesting all the drugs (unbeknownst by the Islanders) and who has become something of a legend on the Island.
The shark was really a menace, hunting anything that moved and it didn't shy away from anything or anyone. Ships were destroyed, piers were damaged, people were eaten...
But, we had unexpected Heroes that saved the day! Or well... Did their best to save the day 😂
The only thing that kind of bothered me was the fact we followed so many people in such a small read, that definitely in the beginning, I had a hard time keeping up with who was who and where everyone was at a certain point. This took me out of the story sometimes.
But all in all, I really enjoyed this one!

Jaws on Drugs
Stripes by Brian Gatto is a fun creature feature. It reminds me of Cocaine Bear but with a shark. I did find this angle very interesting a giant killer shark getting its jaws onto cocaine. The characters were all very well written and the story flowed very well. There def wasn’t as big of a body count in this one as compared to some of Gatto’s other works however in this case it worked out well. Stripes sets itself up well for a sequel. So hopefully we see one soon. All in all I def recommend this one to everyone.

What is not to like about a shark creature feature. This is my love language. If you are a fan of this type of story you will enjoy it. We have ourselves a killer Tiger this time. Those suckers are mean. And how did it get so big?

How did this get more than one star?
Very predictable plot. Flat, poorly developed characters and terrible use of English language. The book needs development and an editor.

October 8, 2025I wanted more from this book. It had potential and made me think a little of Meg, but it didn't have enough substance to stand on it's own. Which was a bummer. I was really excited for it.

Well this book does what you think it will do, have lots of scary, gory shark attacks. Some of it was a little confusing with so many characters that were all shady and I didn't care for the ending but I did think about it yesterday when I was swimming in the small lake at the campground. I knew there couldn't be sharks there but the book definitely was in my head,lol.
