Destiny Falls #3

Wish You Were Mine

Rate this book
He was my first crush. My first heartbreak. And now we’re trapped with a hidden threat.

When my brother’s gorgeous best friend rejected me, something inside me died. I tried to move on, but in a town the size of Destiny Falls, avoiding him is practically impossible.

Unfortunately, the years have only made Asher more attractive. I hide my feelings behind sarcasm and snark, but it gets more difficult with every passing day. And then I notice that I’m not the only person watching him. A sinister presence lingers whenever he’s nearby.

Despite the signs, Asher refuses to believe me. But when we end up stranded in a cabin, supposedly alone, even he can’t deny the truth…and he’ll be forced to make a terrible choice.

Summer has had feelings for her brother’s best friend Asher since she was a teenager even if she has realized that he will never feel the same way. Her career as a veterinarian is unfolding as planned however moving past Asher is proving more difficult than she expected.

Asher is dedicated to his job as a paramedic however he is conflicted over his feelings for Summer as he is torn between his loyalty to his best friend and his feelings for Summer. The strained relationship between them has been ongoing for years so he finally decides he is ready to pursue a relationship with her however not everyone is happy with that decision.

The suspense part of the story helped bring Asher and Summer together however it also caused a little turmoil as he wants to protect her, and she isn’t about to let him face it on his own but the one thing that was never in questions was their love for each other.

Summer & Asher: Book 3 of Destiny Falls: Interconnected standalone, best of read in order to know the characters better. Best friend’s sister/ slow burn/ childhood crush/ vet-paramedic/ mystery-suspense/ spicy small town romance: I enjoy the family and friend dynamic in this series. The angst and banter between Summer & Asher hooked me & the suspense and danger surrounding Asher made this a page turner. This was a great addition to the series.

I love the Destiny Falls books...and finally it's Summer's turn! Her and Asher are meant to be...if he would get out of his own head. Love the suspense in this series, kept me guessing until the end. Hopefully Max is next!

The fmc is kind of pathetic. She’s pines after Asher for years , even after he told her he would never be interested . She’s always following him around like a sad puppy. He literally puts no effort into her or their relationship. Honestly he never really even explains why she is the “one”. It’s almost like she’s just there so might as well do.

This is definitely she falls first and she falls harder.

Summer and Asher’s story is a slow-burn romance set in a small town where everybody knows your business, but also offers unconditional support when there is a need. It includes a good dose of angst and suspense, as well as some steamy interludes. When trouble comes their way, Asher and Summer’s family and friends step up to offer their support, advice and protection.

After Asher rejected her years ago, Summer has done her best to bury her feelings and avoid him whenever possible. That hasn’t been easy since he is her brother’s best friend and they live in a small town. Snark and rudeness are now part of their encounters, a way for her to hide her true feelings. Summer hasn’t had much luck in the relationship department, and though she has tried to move on, she is often lonely and yearning for a partner in life. Asher doesn’t seem to have the same problem and is often seen dating other women. Summer has no idea that Asher is now harbouring deeper feelings for her. Her hostility and snark make telling her about his own feelings impossible. Besides, her brother and his best friend, doesn’t want a guy like him for his sister.

Both Summer and Asher are dedicated to their jobs, jobs that involve taking care of the sick and injured, though his patients are human while hers are animals. They each have stressful days, but he is having trouble dealing with his. Perhaps that is one of the reasons he rejects Summer again when she mentions his odd behaviour whenever he sees her with other guys. He continues to give her mixed signals and the hot, then cold treatment. Another bout of jealousy and seeing other men eager to claim her finally leads Asher to tell her how he feels and ask her for a chance to see if they could be more then the friends/enemies that they are now. Of course she agrees, but it isn’t long before she notices something isn’t right. Asher seems to be a target for some troubling incidents or situations. He doesn’t believe her claim at first, but is then forced to agree that someone is set on causing trouble or even harming him and apparently anyone or anything he cares about. The reappearance of his ex just adds to their troubles. Can they weather the storm headed their way? Will they get a chance to build a future together?

I enjoyed reading this book. The storyline and characters were fascinating and held my attention right from the first page to the last. I will happily recommend this book.

This is book three in The Destiny Falls series and it is Asher and Summer’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Asher and Summer have history because they have known each other since childhood but sometimes things don’t always go as planned or expected. Summer had wanted Asher for a long time but with him being her brother’s best friend things became complicated but now Summer is determined to take matters into her own hands and hopefully it will all work out but instead she got rejected by him which completely broke her apart. Now years later and Summer is a vet and part owner of her own clinic and loves her job but while on a date the last person she expected to walk in with his own date was Asher who she never really got over him and the distance between them had grown so wide that it looked like there was no coming back from it. Asher is a paramedic and loved his job and always worked hard to help people but at the moment he was struggling with his feelings for Summer even though he knew that she would never forgive him for rejecting her years ago and even though he had tried many times to close the gap between them she still wouldn’t give him the time of day. When Asher and Summer start to talk to each other again they find it hard to deny not only how strong the chemistry was between them but also the feelings that had developed so when they eventually come together it was explosive but someone is not happy and danger is closer than they expected but who is and why are they doing this because neither of them had really done anything wrong and in the long run will it take away the future that Asher and Summer always wanted and deserved. Wow this book certainly takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions with everything that is happening and what they are going through but Asher is determined to protect and keep Summer safe from the threats that are getting closer and also becoming very dangerous and even though there relationship was definitely not plain sailing and had many ups and downs there love for each other is so strong and that is what will keep them working together so that they can hopefully get out of this situation alive. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages because you just can’t put it down as it is so addictive and I can’t wait to read more books in this amazing series.

I would definitely recommend reading the other two Destiny Falls books before this one.

There are parts of those books that get mentioned in this book and they are a fantastic read anyway so you won't regret reading them first.

Summer has had as far as she was concerned unrequited love for her Brother Liam's Best Friend Asher since as far back as she could remember. Any attempt she ever made to get him to see how much she would love a relationship with him was never acted on by Asher. He was warned off by Liam that his one and only Sister was off limits as were all of Summers Brothers friends. Asher has always had an attraction to Summer that has increased since she came back to town but he never felt he deserved to act on it and wouldn't because of the Bro Code with his friends.

She went away to College, trained to be a Vet and owns half of a very successful practice in their home town.

Asher works as a Paramedic with the Fire Department in the town working along side some of Summers Brothers. Asher takes his job very seriously and unfortunately has let it affect him a lot especially if they lose a patient, even if it is something that he couldn't possibly have done anymore for that patient. Sleep is not his friend and he exercises to excess after his shifts to tire himself out enough to get some sleep.

They seem to be coming across each other a lot more than previous when both of them are out on dates around the town with other people. The realisation for Asher is that he can't stop thinking of Summer, he is not able to leave his feelings in the box they have been for the last number of years.

They end up actually spending time together and it leads to Bigger things for them.

A few strange things start to happen to Asher that he is not taking too much notice of but Summer is and is trying to make him see that he needs to watch his back.

This book seriously had me on the edge of my seat with the Suspense and all the different things that start to happen.

I won't say anymore to spoil it for anyone else who is going to read it but It is a Must Read!

Alexa certainly didn't leave her readers down on this Destiny Falls book. I didn't see a lot of it coming and Wow was it some read!

The prologue introduces the background to this couple. It explains how one particular incident manages their relationship and behaviour around each other. Fast forward a few years and a dinner out, each with a date, sitting at adjoining tables and the usual atmosphere between them emerges.
Asher has his own demons, his guilt over losing patients and his buried emotions. He is self sufficient. Summer has her family and friends, her work as a veterinarian and her independence, yet still leans on others as and when.
Her longing for Asher runs deep and when they do eventually come together, it is a slow process. Asher takes the first half of the story to wake up and admit his feelings and it is easy to be frustrated with him. It is a bit drawn out.
Just as the relationship starts, ex girlfriend Ashley reappears and she is intending to reclaim her guy. Didn't like her and Asher's dithering doesn't do Summer any favours, so the frustration continues, especially as they were keeping their relationship a secret until they agreed exactly how and where it would go. After all this time, you would have thought they would have had some direction; it does begin to get traction once they have decided and the pace picks up.
Add in a couple of desperate characters on the side causing trouble, dangerous happenings and threats and Destiny Falls becomes rather busy.
The main characters are complex; their emotions are difficult to control and hide. They each have their own way of dealing with them, but he definitely takes all she gives and which is more than he offers in return. It certainly has the will they or won't they vibe.

Nine years ago, Alexa was determined to finally let her crush know how she felt about him. The first heartbreak is always the worst. When you see him everywhere because it's a small town and he not only works with your brother but he and said brother grew up as best friends. It's the worst.
Asher had to put Summer in the best friend's little sister Zone. He'd never thought of her as anything else. That is until she came home from University. She was a Bombshell! She continually snarked at him until he started snapping back on reflex. Hurting her feelings all those years ago was his biggest regret.
Just when they start to give in to their emotions, strange and dangerous things begin to happen.
Ever feel like someone was watching you? Like something was off? Well, in Asher and Summer's case, that feeling is correct!
It could be any one of a few that holds a grudge but can they figure it out before it's too late?
At one point, I didn't know how to feel about the way they acted towards one another. But on the other hand, I like that they took their time to explore how they felt about each other before going any further.
I wish that we could've had a peek at the future in an epilogue but it was a good story and I still recommend it.

Have you ever come across a book or a series that just hooked you in a way no other has for a very long time ? That you found yourself not only falling completely in love with from the very first page but had the ability to make you feel so many different emotions you never saw coming. Well Alexa Rivers Destiny Falls Series has done all of the above in spades . Wish You Were Mine really was everything I could have hoped for and so much more . I mean brothers best friend, small town . Second chance , first loves , first heartbreaks . Alexa has so flawlessly taken many of my all time favorite tropes and entwined them in a story that made me laugh, made me smile , made me cry and kept me rooting so freaking hard from start to ending. Summer and Asher were so freaking adorable together; their journey was not a easy one by any means, in fact they endured many obstacles to be together , but when they finally admitted how they felt to one another all bets were off . Nothing was going to stop them from.being together. This was such a great story filled with angst , humor , witty banter , drama , heartbreaking and heartfelt moments. Ups and downs , secrets, intrigue , suspense, family and friendships and so much more .

Wish You Were Mine is a captivating addition to the Destiny Falls series that beautifully intertwines themes of family loyalty, friendship, and personal growth. The story follows Summer and Asher, who share a deep connection rooted in their childhood. Their relationship evolves against a backdrop of drama and emotional challenges, making for a compelling read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Rivers skillfully balances darker themes with heartwarming moments, creating a narrative that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The character development is particularly noteworthy; Summer's journey of self-discovery and her struggle to confront her feelings for Asher resonate deeply with me. The author's ability to evoke genuine emotions allows other to connect with the characters on a personal level, which I found to be one of the most compelling aspects of the book.

The pacing of the story is well-executed, drawing readers in gradually while maintaining suspense. However, I found that the slow burn was a bit drawn out at times, which is why I would rate this book four stars instead of five. Overall, Wish You Were Mine is a beautifully written romantic suspense that will appeal to fans of the genre and leave them eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

4.5 stars.

If you’re looking for a good romantic suspense, this is your book.

We meet Summer and Asher who have known each other since their childhood. Summer is a vet in Destiny Falls and Asher is a paramedic for Destiny Falls.

Asher is dealing with guilt after a few accidents he dealt with as a paramedic and the people who blame him for their losses. He internalizes that guilt even though he knows that he did all he could do to save them.

Summer is dealing with her crush on/feelings for Asher at the same time Asher is realizing he’s growing feelings for Summer. Neither of them thinks anything can come from their feelings so they hide them deep but you can tell the slow burn is burning.

I love the interactions between Summer and Asher from their banter to both finally letting loose some of their attraction to the other.

The incidents that kept popping up kept me on my toes, especially the last few chapters when shit got real.

I recommend this one if you’re into small town, brother’s best friend, romantic suspense, childhood history.

I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next in Destiny Falls.

Captivating romance that beautifully explores the complexities of friendship, love, and second chances.
The story follows Summer and Asher, childhood friends who have always been drawn to each other but have never acted on their feelings. Years later, as they navigate their adult lives, they find themselves reconnected and forced to confront their undeniable chemistry.
Rivers skillfully weaves a tale of longing, regret, and the power of love to heal. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy to connect with their struggles and triumphs. Their journey is filled with both heart-wrenching moments and heartwarming ones, keeping readers engaged from beginning to end.
The author's writing style is engaging and descriptive, painting vivid scenes and creating a sense of atmosphere. The setting, a small town with its own unique charm, adds depth and authenticity to the story.
If you're looking for a heartfelt romance that will leave you feeling hopeful and satisfied, "Wish You Were Mine" is definitely worth a read.

Summer has had feelings for her brother's best friend Asher since she was a teen. The only way she can try to protect her heart and keep her distance is to treat Asher with animosity. She tries to ignore him and pretend he isn't there. Summer is moving along with her career as a veterinarian and trying (unsuccessfully) to move on in her love life.

Asher is a Paramedic and loves riling up Summer. He knows she had a teen crush on him but thinks she is over it. They have such great banter and snarky chemistry and Asher hates seeing Summer on dates with other guys. He has feelings for her but he doesn't think he's good enough for her.

After they FINALLY give in to their feelings and decide to see how things go between them, Summer starts noticing small things that seem out of place. Is someone targeting Asher? As a paramedic, Asher has dealt with a few traumatic incidents and there are some people who seem to hold a bit of a grudge against him.

Will they find Asher's stalker before it's too late? Will Asher and Summer's relationship last?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Summer had a crush on Asher, her brother's best friend when she was a teenager. He gently told her that he didn't see her in that way. Although it crushed her, she still has a crush on him, now that she's a veterinarian and shares ownership of the clinic.

Asher is a paramedic who has saved many lives, but who feels guilt over the ones he couldn't save - even the ones who died before he got on scene.

He is slowly awakening to the reality, that he really likes Summer, and might want a real relationship with her, but her also doesn't feel like he's good enough for her. So there's a slow burning attraction building for much of the book.

Also, there are bad things happening around Asher, and to people who are close to him. It takes him a while to agree with Summer that there appears to be a plot to threaten him. When a calamitous event takes place, all the emergency staff in town are involved in trying to resolve it.

This book contains some explicit sex, but for those who are OK with it, this is a great, complex romance with more than a touch of danger

Summer Braddock has five brothers. Max and Nate are twins and the oldest. Then there is Liam and Connor. Summer and Toby are twins and the youngest. Her brothers have been overprotective all of Summer’s life. They live in Destiny Falls. When Summer graduated high school nine years ago, she made a play for Liam’s best friend Asher Heaton. Asher turned her down and told her that he only sees her as Liam’s little sister. Summer was hurt because she had a crush on Asher for a long time.

Summer went off to college and is now back in Destiny Falls as a veterinarian. When Asher see that Summer has grown up, he starts having second thoughts about her. Asher is a paramedic and doesn’t think he is good enough for Summer, but he also doesn’t want anyone else with her.

The Braddock Family is quite the group. I liked trying to figure out who was trying to hurt Asher and his sister Frannie and why. So far, I am loving all the stories in this series.

The couple had ZERO chemistry whatsoever and the relationship was SO forced and I felt icky reading it because every scene seemed so uncomfortable. AND they were both dumb as a box of rocks. Like don’t you think if someone is following you, poisoned you and your cat, threw a rock through your window with a threatening note, and then set your house on fire and tried to run over your sister, maybe you should be more careful? And maybe someone is actually targeting you? Crazy theory I know! Then your niece gets kidnapped and you somehow end up stuck in the cabin the abductor kept the baby in before they left and you still think you’re safe enough to have s*x and then sleep through the night? What the actual hell? I mean come on no wonder they were attacked, they were both idiots! And what’s with the cover? There’s literally better covers on Wattpad.

Also there were SO many side characters in this book that were never properly introduced so I had no clue who was who or what was going on with the characters.

Wish You Were Mine by Alexa Rivers, book three in the Destiny Falls series, is a slow burn romance between Summer and her older brother's best friend, Asher. Summer and Asher have known each other for years as Asher is her brother's best friend. Summer has crushed on Asher since she was young. When she finally made a move, Asher let her down as easily as he could. As a result, their relationship has been full of banter and rudeness; with this back and forth being a kind of foreplay. Hurting her feelings all those years ago was his biggest regret, as he really likes her and wants a relationship with her. When things come to a blow, Asher needs to admit his feelings for her, or let her move on to someone who will love her for life.

After they finally accept and admit their feelings for each other, strange and dangerous things begin to happen around Asher, and to people who are close to him. It takes him a while to agree with Summer’s belief that there appears to be a plot to threaten him. When a disastrous event takes place, all the emergency staff in town are involved in trying to resolve it; finding the culprit who was out to get Asher. This book contains some explicit sex, but for those who are OK with it, this is a great, complex romance with more than a touch of danger

This is the third book in the Destiny Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone. I do think that the story would be enhanced by reading the previous books just to have more background for the characters.

This is a brother’s best friend/second chance romance. Summer has harboured feelings for Asher for years, in their youth Asher crushes her when he rejects her. Now she has returned and the angst and banter between the two is perfect. Asher has regretted the way he rejected Summer for years, but she avoids his attempts to repair the damage. Now he can’t stop thinking about the beautiful woman he should be staying away from.

The relationship moves slowly – mostly because Asher can’t just accept his feelings. He was very frustrating. The suspense was well executed and kept me interested. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I will continue the series in the future.

That prologue honestly made my heart ache for Summer! She’s never gotten over her feelings for Asher since that night he broke her heart. Now, years later their interactions have turned snarky, but this time, it’s not just Summer’s heart on the line.
Someone’s leaving threatening messages for Asher. As things start to escalate, those he loves have also become a potential target.
I have been rooting for Summer and Asher for some time! I’m glad they finally figured it out, especially after their friendship had become so strained. The first half of this book moved a little slower, but things definitely ramped up in the second half! At one point, I was on the edge of my seat!
I’m hopeful we get Max’s story soon!!!

Summer is a successful veterinarian but she can’t get her long term crush Archer out of her mind especially since he shut her down so brutally when she admitted it years ago. Maybe she wouldn’t be the person she is and have the career she does if things had been different. Now that they are older he regrets it but still doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. I couldn’t do Asher’s paramedic job and it sounds like he takes every loss of life personally when it was out of his control. He shouldn’t have dismissed all the things that happened to him like he and his cat being drugged, broken windows with threatening messages, and accidents that seemed staged. He lets Summer in but at times I felt like he shuts her out from what’s really happening and they were a little too comfortable in potentially dangerous situations.

Best friend's younger sister! This is about Summer and Asher. Alexa Rivers knows her stuff; this series of Destiny Falls is fantastic. She captivates you from beginning to end. Although each book is stand-alone - you must read them to get to know each character better. Summer has been in love with Asher since high school, but he is her older brother's best friend and won't do anything to mess up that friendship.

It is not until later that he realizes she is the one for him, but how to break it to his best friend/her brother. The story has action, as it involves someone trying to hurt Asher for something that wasn't his fault. An ex also comes into play, and a couple of other town residents express misguided anger. I love this book!!.

This was a slow burn romance between Summer and her older brother's best friend, Asher. The interactions between the pair were initially very snarky, fraught and frustrating, and my frustration only continued to grow with Asher's ongoing reluctance to acknowledge and follow through with his growing feelings for Summer. However, there was also intrigue and suspense which kept me turning the pages, and I was ultimately rewarded by some sweet and steamy moments between the main characters, and an exciting climax to the growing suspense within the story. As a huge fan of the earlier stories from the Destiny Falls Series, I particularly loved all the cameos from previous characters.

We returned back to Destiny Falls to witness the heartbreak and relationship evolve between Summer and Asher.
This was a slow burn romance and I was so rooting for them to get together and for Asher to get his head around. In the beginning he was very reserved and didn’t want to acknowledge and act on his growing feelings for Summer and it frustrated me. Luckily he realized how great she was. But at the same time there are some things happening which build a great suspense. I had 3 potential suspects which made it more fun to discover who it was.
I’m curious to see the other brothers fall in love as well.

Their Long Awaited Forever Happiness -
This was a dark yet heartwarming story, of family loyalty, great friendships, drama and the ties that bind them together, that was truly captivating. This slow build romance story, took me on one heck of a rollercoaster ride as I went through a myriad of emotions. Before you start reading this book, I suggest you carve out a few free hours during the weekend, switch off your phones, lock your doors, curl up on your couch with your favourite drink and sink your teeth into this angst and suspense-filled story. The storyline was really exciting and the characters were engaging, which made this story a worthwhile read, that I am happy to recommend.

What made me want to read WISH YOU WERE MINE is the fact these two had a long history of mostly one sided unrequited love of a younger woman and her brother’s best friend. The book takes place nine years after he lets her down not so gently and they’ve had a contentious relationship since then.

What to look forward to: what triggers them to change their attitude toward one another, what deep seated issues have been holding both back from a meaningful relationship, and what is putting everyone in danger.

I received an early copy of the book to read and my opinion is that it fits the Destiny Falls series well, the danger kept me guessing and reading, and it was a little slow in spots where they got bogged down in minutiae when what I wanted was to get to the good stuff.

Summer has always known who she wanted and that was Asher, her brother Liam’s best friend. Nine years ago she told him so but alas was rejected. Now she’s an accomplished vet and Asher a paramedic his rejection still hurts but she hides it with humour and pretending that her crush is over. Asher is a good guy but also a complex and frustrating MMC who feels everything particularly when it comes to saving lives wishing he had got there sooner, but when it comes to realising his feelings for Summer then he’s dragging his heels. This was a slow burn love story of will they won’t they and the MMC never feeling good enough. Great friends and family dynamics with drama, jealousy, angst and steam. Great to catch up with previous characters. Need to read Max’s story now.
