Haunted by the past, can love ignite their future?
Rose Carlisle, an eager historian with a passion for medieval Scotland, never expected her studies to transport her to the past. Yet, while engrossed in the journal of a 14th-century woman named Margaret, she finds herself thrust into the rugged Highlands of ancient Scotland.
Tiernan MacRae, mourning the loss of his betrothed, Margaret, is stunned by Rose’s appearance. She bears an uncanny resemblance to Margaret and possesses knowledge of their secret moments. The clan, initially shocked, believes she is Margaret's spirit returned to guide them.
Their encounters are fraught with tension and suspicion, yet sparks of undeniable attraction simmer between Tiernan and Rose. Tiernan's fierce protectiveness and hidden vulnerability awaken a deep desire within Rose, while her courage and passion reluctantly captivate him.
As Rose delves deeper into the mysteries of her connection to Margaret and a newly discovered ancient prophecy, she must navigate her growing feelings for Tiernan. She fears he is drawn not to her but to the ghost of Margaret he sees in her. Torn between returning to her own time or embracing her place in the past, Rose faces an impossible choice. If she could be sure his heart truly belonged to her, she might just find the courage to stay….
As with all books in the Far From Home series, Here in Your Arms is a stand-alone novel. The characters from different books do sometimes interact, but these can be read in any order.
This is definitely the last book I'll read in the series. Again, most of the POVs were from the FMCs point, which annoyed me. I keep reading expecting something more exciting, but they're all the same. The women, the plot, nothing is evolving. This shouldn't have been a series at all. Honestly, the books are too abrupt, and there is always something missing. I needed more, and I wasn't getting it. Plus, there are some inconsistencies that I decided to ignore throughout the series. I liked the characters, but it's not enough to keep me going to the next series. What happened to the earlier characters?? What about the witches?? It's all becoming repetitive and vague.
Would have scored 5 but the story ended too abruptly. It was a good read which kept me entertained and interested. It's a time travel like the others in the series. I've been reading them out of sequence but noted characters from previous books have appeared in the storyline. Maybe best to read the books in order.
Ms Ruger is one of my favorite authors and I’ve read all she has written. This book was a little disappointing. It felt like a different story at the end it took such a turn. It did end abruptly and left me with a few questions. It felt as if I couldn’t connect with the characters. Hoping the next will be better!
A 14th Century woman (Margaret) writes a journal; a 20th Century woman (Rose) reads it and is transported back to the exact place and time when the journalist lived. Curiously, they both look alike. We don't exactly know why but we can speculate, and it's an interesting idea. The modern woman meets the ancient woman's fiance (Tiernan). Both are baffled by this dichotomy. Rose is a better version of Margaret—a Margaret 2.0 if you will. She's proactive and speaks her mind, in contrast to Margaret's serene passivity. Tiernan finds this attractive.
Unfortunately for me, I never felt their relationship becoming tender and loving. Tiernan and Rose never softened enough for me to see their affection developing. They were cold toward each other, then they slept together in a fevered moment, then they were cold again, and I didn't feel the love between them, even though it was supposed to be there.
Also I really wanted to know how Rose was received at Druimlach in the end. Was she finally accepted? Did she ever show the journal to Tiernan?
There are two scenes that I thought were really well written and important—the fighting scene and the Maella scene. Both were near the end of the story. And lastly, I loved, loved, loved that Brody and Emmy played such a big part in the story. It was fantastic to catch up with them.
As always, Ms. Ruger writes great descriptions and character development. Her stories are unique and imaginative, and she always takes you on a fantastic adventure. Her stories are so well worth your time.
I've been following this series, and was pleased to see this latest instalment was now available on Kindle Unlimited, but tbh I felt the story was not as good as some of the others and seemed to just finish up rather hurriedly... Had potential, but didn't quite reach it for me.
I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book, but I pay for the subscription).
Just when I think that I've reached the climax of the plot, the words "The End" are staring back at me??
This sucks especially because the book was starting to get real good. And then it ends with the leads suddenly realising they love each other without addressing any loose ends. I can't believe Rose would choose to go back to MMC's turf. And what about finding those bandits? Ugh, I'm not satisfied at all. It started out so damn great and ends like this.
I liked the story. I just wish the end had more to it. It ends kind of vague and abruptly. The main male character was well developed. The female character’s thoughts and feelings about the male were never fully expressed to the main male character even at the ending or to her friends.
What a excellent story, with a great storyline, loved Tiernan and Rose’s story. I just couldn’t put the book down, just wanted it to go on more. Can’t wait for the next book
As always, another intriguing book. I love the way Rebecca Ruger develops her storyline, and each book in this series is just a bit different. I am glad that I started with book 1, even though these could be read as standalone books. Thank you, Rebecca, for the fantasy.
Rose being loving history and working in archives was suddenly gone from 1978 to 1304. Emmy took her in but she later met Tiernan. Not knowing at the time he and she belonged to each other.
Each book has it own twist and thus did not disappoint. There was such underlying hurt in each main character. Add to it the magic from a novice and oh the charm and chaos!
Loved this book!! I couldn’t put it down!Love the detail on the castles and the clothing. I can’t read enough of time traveling and about Scotland. The only problem was I wanted more !
