Infiltrate the Enigma app and lure out whoever his cousin was last speaking with before everything went to shit. Nix won’t stop until he finds answers, even if that means transferring to a different university and getting entangled with the infamous Demons of Foxglove Grove.
Lake, West, and Yejun. Three of the most powerful men on the entire planet, and also the deadliest. When Nix finds himself on their radar, he thinks maybe it’s not all bad, and he can twist the situation to his advantage. It’s not long, however, before he discovers the Demons have their own objective.
Someone is after them, and they want to use Nix to lure out whoever that may be. Forced to pretend to be their new mutual plaything, Nix struggles to search for clues about his cousin and maintain personal boundaries between himself and the guys. They might take his body, but he refuses to give them any other part of himself, especially since there’s no way of knowing if one of them happens to be the person he’s after.
Lake is next in line for the throne and will do anything to stop those secretly trying to prevent him from taking it. He treats Nix like a possession, something he has a right to take. And potentially break.
West is an up-and-coming boxer who rules the school with boyish charm and iron fists. He doesn’t try to hide who or what he is, not even from Nix, the first of the Demons to bend him to his will, laughing all the while.
Yejun is considered the flirt of the group, the one who’s hooked up with practically everyone on campus. Initially, he’s not interested in playing pretend with Nix, but it isn’t long before he’s changed his tune.
It doesn’t take long before Nix realizes he’s in danger of falling for these monstrous men. He needs a way out, and fast, preferably before any of them realize he’s been using them as well. Nix needs to check their names off the list of suspects so he can move on and find his cousin’s killer.
But what happens when they catch him scheming? Will they help him?
Or destroy him?
Trigger This is a Dark MM Sci-Fi Enemies to Lovers Why Choose Romance. There are themes of bullying, control, and manipulation, as well as a man character who is shared between three other men. A full list of warnings will be made available closer to release.
Librarians, please don't add books. I stay up to date and add them myself and have ended up with many multiple copies because others add them later. Thank you!

So I'm re-reading the original trilogy before I get to the fourth and final book because I cannot remember all the details and it's been almost a year since I first read this series.
My thoughts this time around are still pretty much the same, except that I think Beck is behind everything and just uses minions to help him.
Excited to see how the series ends though.

4.5
I'm pretty certain that this is my first bully romance, why choose MM book and I absolutely loved it!
I really liked Nix and the fact that he does have a backbone and a motive of his own, which is often not the case when the 'victim' is an FMC - when he finds out that his cousin wasn't who he thought she was though ... I'm definitely ready for the vengeance of Nix! I'm also highly suspicious that Grady is the hacker, or he knows something at least.
Lake is a difficult character to like so far, but he's clearly way more invested in his Songbird than he's been letting on! I'm curious to see the repercussions of that bite, and I'm also suspecting that his cousin, Beck, is the one who's been tormenting Nix because he wants Yejun to himself...
Yejun has to be a Gemini 😂 He seems to be two completely different individuals: he's overly social, and he has a creative mindset, plus he has a volatile temper. Very interested to see how he's going to react to Nix's secret!
West has me most fascinated though. The daddy issues, the competitiveness, the way he hides his feelings... I'm ready to find out more about him. I also hate his dad and how he sucks up to Lake so much while ignoring his own kid - I empathise so hard with this.
Also love how this links to the Devil's of Vitality series with Lake having briefly been a part of Kelevra's Retinue, and their phonecall that hints that maybe a Devil or two may pop up in future?
Completely obsessed with this author's mutliverse!
I feel like this is another one of those stories that falls into the category of it sounding great on paper but just being a bit underwhelming for me at the end of the day. Currently a 3.5 rounded down (I reserve the right to reflect and come back to this rating later cause I change my mind about things all the time).
First things first. I love this cover. It’s so pretty and it drew me in immediately.
This story is a why-choose dark bully romance that features secret societies, dark academia and some political machinations. I know it’s supposed to be a sci fi story, and I suppose technically it is, but the world building lacked the depth and richness I need in sci fi to immerse myself in a new futuristic world (I almost wondered if this was an established world from a previous CLF book and because this is the first of her works for me I missed existing world building or history).
I didn’t mind Nixs chemistry with the boys (some of the spicy scenes were pretty good) but I think it would benefit from the character development that would come from more installments. Because all of the interactions are between Nix and only one of the guys individually at a time, it really limited the amount of relationship development that could occur with the guys with the one book. I don’t know if it’s just a me thing but I feel like the why-choose I’ve read previously normally involved more sword crossing or like actual sharing. I was kind of surprised when this was all so one on one, but perhaps that will change down the line? Maybe the internet has just desensitized me.
For what it’s worth, I didn’t find this particularly dark (outside of the bully romance/ mild dub-con elements). It was a bit of fun and I’ll continue on with the series to see where it goes but I couldn’t escape feeling a bit of a disconnect from the whole thing.
Nix changes schools to avenge the death of his cousin, but ends up entangled in the same mysterious circumstances that led to her death. Lake, West, and Yejun are powerful, attractive and ruthless. Nix will have to decide if being their plaything is worth the torment (his 🍆 says yes!).
I've been craving a good 'why choose' book for awhile but even though there are a ton of them in MF romance, I haven't come across too many good ones in MM+. I really liked Villain and as always with Chani Lynn Feener, the details and plot were spot on. I enjoyed the mysterious plot line and will definitely be grabbing the next book in the series. I would have liked the plot to lean in to the hurt/comfort elements and enhance the sexual tension between the Nix and his men (not necessarily more sex, just a sense of heightened attraction). I suspect that this book dealt with a lot of the exposition and we will get more of that in the next book. Overall it was good and well worth a read!
Rating: 4.25 Angst: 3/5 Steam: 3/5
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
You guys, this is the M(MMM) why choose romance of my dreams 😭 There’s scorching hot sexual tension, a secret(ish) society, a murder mystery and 3 demonic men who you will just love to hate 😎😏
Nix Monroe is a man on a mission. After learning of his cousin’s suicide after a spate of supposed bullying, he has transferred to her university in order to try and uncover the reason for her taking her own life. With only the vaguest hints as to where to look for her bully, Nix hacks into the school’s social media app, Enigma, which is usually used to arrange hookups. This, however, grabs the attention of the school’s three resident Demons… three legacy students with ties to the rulers of the planet, including the next in line to the throne.
Lake, West and Yejun are used to getting everything they want. With their society standing as demons, an honorary title, they’re dangerous, especially with the backing of Club Essential, an elite (not so secret) society where the ruling classes brush shoulders and swap sordid favours. Tasked with tracking down a hacker targeting Club Essential, the trio can hardly believe their luck when fresh-faced transfer student and hacker Nix falls into their laps. It soon becomes apparent that even if Nix isn’t the hacker they’re after, he’s definitely the one they want…
Absolutely loved this latest dark sci-fi romance from Chani Lynn Feener! The characters are all so well written; my biggest gripe in Why Choose books is when the MCs all start blurring into one, but Lake, West and Yejun couldn’t be more different from each other and I loved that! The sexual tension between them and Nix is just off the charts honestly and the mystery elements of this are twisty as all hell! And that ending?? Give me the next book RIGHT NOW!!
Read Villain for: ✨ M(MMM) ✨ Dark scifi Why Choose romance ✨ Transfer student x 3 legacy elites ✨ A (not so secret) elite society ✨ Trying to solve an untimely death ✨ Non-con & dub-con ✨ Possessive obsessive MCs ✨ Biting and rough play
Massive thank you to Chani who sent me an early copy of Villain 💕
This was so good,it has been a while since a book managed to make me be this invested in the plot and the characters. The plot was well constructed and it keeps you in suspense during the whole book, the world the author created is also really well crafted and it is easy to understand it. The characters were complex and you start to really like them and feel for them very quickly because of how well the author wrote them. The romance is something that truly surprised me since I'm not really into dark romance but in this one it worked so well,Nix had chemistry with all three of them and while it is a toxic kind of love it didn't cross the line to the point it makes you feel disgusted. I admit that while this is a why choose romance I did have a soft spot for Yejun and I hope we see more of him and his developing relationship with Nix. I can hardly wait for the second book!
I don't even know what I expected, to be honest. I loved the idea of it being MMMM, and I rolled with it. Was it that? Yes. Was it more? Also, yes. Was it everything that I didn't know I needed? Abso-fu*king- lutely.
This one is not part of the Devils of Vitality series, but it's somehow connected.
We get to hear how Lake spent a year with Kelevra and how he was part of the retinue... Kelevra even has a cameo in this one ( in a way ). We hear a few things about what happened on Vitality, and I loved those bits and pieces because I love that world.
Now, going back to this book/series... I see the great potential of this being one of my favs as well. The system here is similar but different.
Lake, our dear unhinged Lake, is about to become an Emperor, and our lil Nix doesn't even know in how much trouble he is with these demons.
They're all amazing, powerful, unhinged, deranged, but we all know how Chani writes her men... they're hot as hell.
Nix is just our typical nerd with a bit of a twist.
Lake's connection to Nix is out of this world. They are soulmates. There's nothing that can convince me otherwise. Now... the situation gets interesting cuz we also have West and Yejun, who are total unhinged babes, and we love them too. The 4 of them together are just... WOW! HOT DAMN, WOW!
This is the 1st book of the series, and unlike Devils of Vitality, it seems that this is not a series of standalones. The book ended in kind of like a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what these demons have in store for us next. We still have things to do, secrets to uncover, a throne to claim, and a lover to love.
5⭐️, it's a no-brainer. If Chani writes it, I'll read it!
P.S. check out the TW, CLF's books are not for everyone. They're hardcore, and the TW are there to tell you that. Don't ignore them, and then complain about it, cuz I won't have it.
Reread October 2025 These are so addicting! And I still think Beck is sus as hell. And I don’t like Juri, but I can’t remember if there’s a reason for that or just a feeling. Lol. On to book 2!
Read for a group challenge week 6, but book mood changed after I'd committed. Not sure about this one, always up for mmmm, the more the merrier. Lake seems hot and cold, West seems to be pining over Lake and Yejun, seems to be the one with the connection to the cousin. Nix is alright, he's meek in places and has bite at others. Not so sure about him outing himself to Juri, they had pretty much zero connection. Don't trust Grady, Juri, Beck or the main guy offering to help. Curious where this one is going.

The writing is spectacular, the plot is absolutely amazing and so complex, it kept me immersed in the story to the point where I couldn’t STOP READING, 🤍 the characters are PERFECT … ugh EASILY 5 stars! Chani never disappoints!! Once again she made me obsessed with one of her books. 🥰
When Nix's cousin commits suicide, she indicates it was caused by a "King" from a risque app. He transfers to her college to try to find the guy responsible and becomes the plaything of three"Demons" of Foxglove Grove University. It's a cruel power struggle involving dubcon times with all three but Nix feels the desire for all as do they for him. It's Lake the Prince who consumes and mesmerizes him though, Yejun is the kindest and West the roughest. Though the three share him, it's always Lake in control. It's brutal but so compelling, you can't stop reading and when it ends on a cliffhanger - you scream with frustration and anxiously await the sequel. I love Chani's books! I received a copy of this book through Booksirens and this is my honest opinion.
This was a great start to this story. Along with the Dark romance, there is also a mystery to solve and the reader is left wondering at times who the bad guys really are. I can't wait to see how this story progresses now that things are coming out into the open. I'm looking forward to seeing how Nix moves forward with this trio.
I really wanted to love this one, but I think I just have to trust the process of this more than a standalone, and also slower paced than the past trilogy I read from Chani.
I love the premise, and love that it's a why choose, and also love that it's in a school setting. The setup of why Nix is here, what goes on in this planet and the academy was pretty well done, and I'm intrigued by the Kings of Foxglove Grove.
The pacing of the relationships differ between each guy, with Lake and Nix having a very fast quickburn, and Yejun and West having a different dynamic with him. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, and it makes sense to ease someone into this, but it just kind of felt like the type of why choose where there's one "main" guy and the other two guys are just kind of there and that's my BIGGEST gripe when it comes to some why chooses because some authors tend to kind of forget the point of a why choose in the first place. 😂
And I obviously trust Chani to not do this, and she did a good job with setting up the trio's friendship, but I couldn't shake the feeling off the whole time when Lake's possessiveness was very self-focused. There were also other parts that kind of baffled me, but those are small nitpicks. I'm confident that things will smooth out in the next couple of books too, but as it stands, this one is a 3.5 rounded down.
fyi: this is the first in a series and ends on a cliffhanger
This was pretty good and I’m interested to see where the story goes. The romance is slow moving and there actually isn’t a whole lot of sex action going on yet. I like the dynamics between Nix and the three Demons so I’m looking forward to seeing their relationships evolve
As much as I tried stalling I had to finish the book 😭 I wish it was longer or the other books in the series were already released because the suspense is killing me 😅🤣
After the revelations in the last chapters the next book will definitely be incendiary. Once Yejun finds the truth about Nix and sees what Lake did, I fear for his reaction. He is still hurting and who knows what he will do 😭 Still, there are so many questions left unanswered and so many suspicious people around Nix. But I set my eyes on one particular individual (B***e). Waiting to see how it will turn out and if I was correct in my assumption.
Loved this book, the world, the mystery and most of all the chemistry between Nix and all three demons, Lake, West and Yejun 🖤
Thank you Chani, for giving me the opportunity to read this in advance, leaving this review voluntarily.
So I’m a big fan of Feener’s stories. They are dark and her CW are detailed and a must read if you have triggers when reading. (They also can sometimes be funny but I digress). To say I’ve been looking forward to this book is an understatement. It’s been on my “waiting for next in series” for … as long as I have known it was coming. So a while. I am about 50/50 when it comes to why choose romances. I either love them or hate them. This one is definitely on the love side. Mostly because it’s set in a non human world with other non humans and so I don’t have to expect or worry about social norms because it’s in another fictional galaxy with humanoid but def not human characters. And now that I finished it in a few hours I have to wait months for a new book (sigh). Anyway, I’m obsessed and I love the story. (Of which there is actually a lot) irrespective of smexy times this story is a great college bullymance featuring four very distinctive and unique characters.
Love love love! I'm so used to Chani's character series that when the book ended I was like NOOOOOOOOO don't be over yet!!! It is hard to write a "why choose" because there are so many different personalities that need to be distinguished and this was perfection. Loved all 4 of these characters. But Nix not just coming out with it to Lake at the end was giving me anxiety 😂. I didn't want them to think Nix had anything to do with whatever Branwen did. But omg I loved this book so much and literally can't wait for the next in the series!
Chani Lynn Feener is so clever. This story kept me up all night until I finished it in the wee hours. Lake, West, and Yejun are scary sexy. Omg they're so damn hot together with Nix. I'm obsessed with them! I love the mystery. I can't wait for the next book. I can't get enough of this story! That cliffhanger makes me a bit sad, but the story is twisty and intriguing so I'll forgive it.
Edit after listening to the audiobook: I know I got emotional reading this, but I didn't cry so much. The audio really brings the hurt forward for what Branwen went through, and what Nix is going through over what happened with her. Hearing it with all the emotion, it becomes more real for me and really makes me feel it. The narrators are flipping fantastic! I think they've managed to enrich this already awesome story.
This was such an easy and quick read! It has a good balance of plot and characters. Chani does a great job seamlessly introducing each character, giving them their own distinct adversities and traits. Additionally, the story is very atmospheric, emitting an air of mystery.
Though the twist was predictable, it added another layer of suspense and mystery that made me yearn for more. However, I wish the romance developed a little slower since this is set to be a trilogy, and this book spanned a week.
Final rating: 4 stars.
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
2.25⭐ “Lake’s wanted the crown for as long as I’ve known him,” Beck said. “He won’t give it up so easily.” “Neither will I,” West confirmed. “I’ve hitched my star to his and we’re both in it to win it.” “And Yejun?” “Yejun goes where we go.”
Alright, let’s talk about Phoenix Monroe and his relationship with each of the demons:
╰•★★ Yejun Sang and his Firebird ★★•╯
“What did you say his name was again?” “Phoenix Monroe,” West answered for him. “What?” Yejun snorted. “What a stupid name.” “It’s Nix,” he corrected, only for the man to dig his knee in harder. “Yeah, that’s not much better.”
These two connected on an emotional level, and I loved them so much that I wanted them to be endgame.
“I’m sorry, Firebird,” Yejun said. “You mean that, don’t you.” “Of course I mean it. And I understand now how something like that could push you into making these types of extreme changes. Running from your emotions is never the answer though.
Their conversations, the way Yejun treated him and everything they shared... it was everything. Their chemistry was unmatched.
“I’ll let you know the next time he plans on performing near your hometown,” Yejun offered. “I can have tickets delivered to your house.” “Oh, thanks, but I don’t think I could afford to buy them again.” “I’m giving them to you for free, Firebird. Do you really think I’d make you pay? You’re supposed to be my man, remember?”
They only had one scene where they slept together for the first time, but that scene gave me everything, I could feel their connection, it wasn't just sex.
There was something almost sensual about the whole thing, about the way Yejun was careful not to hurt him, about how he was staring down as though fascinated by what he saw.
Yejun Sang? He’s my favorite. I loved his character so much, but I’m starting to get frustrated because the fact that Eris is Nix’s cousin will make Yejun see him as his number one enemy. And no, I’m not ready to see Yejun’s darker side.
He’d always been good at reading people, and so far, Yejun wasn’t that hard. He was different, he wore his emotions proudly, not bothering to hide them. In fact, he gave the impression he wanted them to be seen. Like, maybe, he wanted to just be seen in general.
╰•★★ Lake Zyair and his Songbird ★★•╯
Lake captured Nix’s chin between two fingers, searching his eyes even when Nix glared. “What happened just now?” “Nothing.” He brushed him off. “That wasn’t nothing.”
These two connected on a mental level. Lake could read him so well and control Nix’s mind to make him bend to his will.
“You want me to cut myself for you?” “Songbird, I want you to do a lot more than just bleed for me. And you will.”
He had the power fuck with his head and i felt sorry for Nix because i thought he genuinely felt something for him? Well that was until he was forced to date them.
“You’re clever, take a moment to think this through before making accusations. Who am I?” Nix frowned, but when those fingers tightened, he rushed to answer, “Lake Zyair.” “Soon to be crowned Emperor of Tulniri,” he said. “If I want something, I don’t need to lie, or beg, or barter for it. I simply have to take.”
Lake was okay...i guess? I just liked how protective he could get about him.
“Some freak put a dead thing in his backpack.” “What?” Lake slammed a palm on the door leading out and stormed across the parking lot toward his car. “Forget it, I’ll see for myself. I’m on my way.” Some freak was about to become a dead thing if Lake had any say in the matter.
╰•★★ West Corleone and Nixie ★★•╯
“Hey.” He gripped the short hairs at the back of Nix’s skull and yanked them just enough to tip his head up. “You’re scared of me. Why?” “Oh, I don’t know,” Nix drawled. “Maybe it has something to do with how you almost killed me our first meeting?” He blinked. “Did you really think I was going to choke you to death? Come on, Nixie. Have a little faith.” “I don’t know you,” he reminded him.
The only thing I liked about West was his last name. What I know about him is that he has daddy issues and an inferiority complex. His "connection" with Nix was purely physical, more from his side than Nix’s, because that man was scared of him.
“I really wish you two would stop using me as a pawn between you. What’s even up with you guys? I thought you were best friends.” “We are,” West confirmed. “What? Never heard of friendly competition before?”
Honestly, him and Lake are fighting for the last spot in my rankings because Yejun Sang takes the top.
“And you’re not mad about that? That she gave up?” “Someone bullied her. Someone pushed her to that point.” “Ah,” one of the pieces clicked into place, “so you are angry, just not at her. You’ve chosen to place all of that blame and anguish on someone else. Were the two of you really that close? So much so that you can’t even stand the idea of her doing something wrong? Of making the wrong choice?” “Stop.”
Now, about the drama between Nix and his cousin? Sorry, but I already had a feeling that not everything was as it seemed. And honestly, Lake earns another point for being the only one to call out Nix on his shit.
“You all think you’re so high above the rest of us because of your connections to the club. You disgust me!” “I’m the monster?” Lake’s usually icy exterior cracked even more. “Iris almost got Yejun killed. She almost cost him everything. Yet you have the audacity to stand here preaching like she’s some saint?Newsflash, Nix, you didn’t know your cousin very well. You might not have known her at all. Don’t take that out on me. She wrote you a letter telling you to come here? She practically gave you to us, but you want to defend her?”
Right now, I’m only interested in Yejun’s reaction when he finds out the truth and realizes that Lake knew all along and is now protecting Nix from him.
“Tell us the truth,” West said then. “You replaced us there, didn’t you?” “Would the two of you stop looking like jilted lovers?” Lake shook his head. “Like I could replace you idiots even if I wanted to.” “So you wanted to?” West grunted, but it was obvious this time he was one hundred percent joking.
Lastly, I did like the relationship between the three of them and the bond they had.
“You guys could have chosen anyone,” Nix stated. “Why me?” “Because Lake wanted you,” he told him matter-of-factly. “And you and West just roll with whatever he wants?” “I want Lake to be content,” Yejun corrected, “and West…West wants what Lake wants. In more ways than one. We stick together.”
I definitely did not understand that this was part of a series that followed the same four guys throughout several books. Aaaand I just finished the first audiobook! Which means I'll forget everyone's names by the time the next book comes out on audio 😔
I was wondering why there was only 30 minutes left and there's still no resolution to any of the major plot points.. Silly me. I would have interpreted a lot of events differently if I knew it was the first book in a series.
If I manage to wait a year for the next two audiobooks, I'll check back with y'all. OR, if I stumble over $50 on the sidewalk tomorrow, I'll buy the books, but your girl has traffic tickets to pay rn
I love the author’s Devils of Vitality series but I wasn’t sure if this series was going to be for me. I’m happy to say that I had a great time with this story and can’t wait to read the others in the series.
