Heartstrings Entangled: A Tale of Unspoken Love

Rate this book
David Sinclair, you jerk! Weren't you supposed to be infertile? Explain this to me!"

I had sworn to remain single, never even thought about getting married. But I couldn't withstand my grandmother's relentless nagging. After countless blind dates, each ending because I didn't want kids, I was about to give up.

"A while back, I was in a car accident. The doctor said I might have trouble having children. So, Miss Summer, can you rest assured and marry me?"

Because of this, David Sinclair and I had a whirlwind marriage. Less than a year in, he quietly asked me, "What if you get pregnant?"

"If I get pregnant, then we'll have the baby. What's the big deal?"

And then, unbelievably, I got pregnant! Pregnant!

Chapter 1

"Miss Foster, I find you quite satisfactory in many aspects, but not having children is an absolute dealbreaker. I expect you to have children immediately after marriage. You’re not getting any younger, and you’re so thin—it doesn’t look like you’re built for childbearing. If we wait a few more years, you might not be able to have any at all..."

If it weren't for my grandmother’s strict instructions—this being a relative of her old friend—I would’ve thrown my coffee in his face to wake him up.

"If you’re worried about having children affecting your career, don’t be. I don’t mind if you become a full-time housewife. I can support you. Also, I’m the sole heir of my family, so we must have a son..."

"Mr. Parker, does your family own a gold mine or hold a noble title? And by the way, it seems like my salary is higher than yours. Where do you get the confidence to say you can support me?"

Looking at the greasy middle-aged man babbling in front of me, I finally lost my patience.

"You—you’re being completely unreasonable! I’m only saying this for your own good."

The blind date looked stunned, his face turning red. Suddenly, I found the situation amusing.

"Mr. Parker, as you can see, I’m not the nurturing, motherly type you’re looking for. Why don’t we just call it a day?"

"Hmph, a woman like you, no wonder you’re still single at your age! If you don’t appreciate me, you’ll regret it!" He stormed off, not forgetting to throw one last insult over his shoulder.

A soft chuckle came from behind me.

I turned around and met a pair of eyes that were watching me with a hint of amusement.

“Why don’t you want kids?” the man in front of me asked, his lips curling into a gentle smile, his voice incredibly soothing.

“Life is long. Who knows if you’ll end up with a good person or a monster? Not having kids is better for everyone,” I replied, even though I hadn’t intended to explain myself. His gentle voice had an almost hypnotic effect on me.

The man looked taken aback for a moment, his thin lips pressing together in silence.

Not wanting to engage further, I said goodbye and turned to leave.

“I was in a car accident a while back,” he said, looking down with a touch of sadness in his eyes. “The doctor said I might have trouble having children. So, Miss Foster, can you feel at ease marrying me?”

I stared at him, shocked, trying to find any sign of deception in his face. But his eyes were sincere.

“Don’t worry, everything else works fine.
