How Do I Disciple Others?

Rate this book
Practical, Biblical Advice for Encouraging Fellow Believers and Helping Them Grow in Spiritual Maturity

If you are a believer in Christ, you are a disciple. Now, it’s time to disciple others. The thought of leading someone else on their faith journey may seem daunting—after all, no one can be a perfect example. But God uses the imperfect faith of faithful believers to help others become more like Jesus.

In this addition to the Church Questions series, J. Garrett Kell equips readers to intentionally invest in the lives of fellow church members and family. Through Scripture and personal examples, he emphasizes why biblical discipleship is essential and challenges the obstacles that may discourage Christians from initiating these relationships. This concise and engaging guide also explains how to find someone to disciple, healthy discipleship practices and posture, and pitfalls to avoid—empowering church members to cultivate spiritual growth in their communities.

For Individual or Small-Group  An excellent resource for churches, this brief guide equips readers to intentionally invest in the spiritual lives of fellow believers  Written for laypeople, students, and church leaders of all levels Part of the 9Marks Church Questions  Other titles include How Can I Find Someone to Disciple Me?How Can I Be Sure I’m Saved?; and How Do I Fight Sin and Temptation?

Clear. Concise. Actionable. Garrett Kell shows us what discipleship should look like, easy points of action and how to keep hope and joy as your disciple. He seems to focus on three main things; pray, confess sin, study God’s word, as the main pieces. Discipleship is not less than those three things, but it can be more.

Helpful book—something to put in the hands of both the “discipler” and the “disciplee” as they prepare to enter into this kind of relationship. Getting people in our churches to read this can help them to start creating the culture of discipleship that all of us want.

The church question series by 9marks are always an encouragement to read. Kell does a great job of speaking abouthow to find people to disciple, how to make sure you are prepared to disciple, and finally how to disciple someone. I gave this book four stars as it is very well written and full of great truths, but nothing new was presented.

Excellent. Added to our church bookstall. Great for anyone who recognizes their responsibility as a Christian to do spiritual good to others, but isn’t quite sure where to start.

Short (53 booklet-sized pages) and accessible guide to discipling with helpful examples and practical advice about how to help other saints follow Jesus. I enjoyed the rapid-fire practices and pit-falls at the end and will come back to these as I pray about and plan for my current discipling relationships.

Phenomenal. Theological. Devotional. Practical. Now I just need him to write a longer book on discipleship.

“If you are a believer in Christ, you are a disciple. Now, it’s time to disciple others.”

I love the Church Questions series! Clear and concise and practical, with plenty of action steps. At only 64 pages, this title will give you an overview of who and what a disciple is, why discipleship matters, and how to begin discipling others.

This short book is a gem.

I highly recommend this title!

Such a good book. I highly recommend this book as a personal devotion and primer into the topic of discipleship.
J. Garret Kell fluently used experience and scripture to give a systematic approach into all that encompasses discipling. His writing style was smooth, very well written and each page typically had a quote worthy of holding onto for personal and public edification.
Although I do wish that he would have provided more specific and practical examples of discipleship methods and “plans”, for the purpose of this book fitting within the “church questions” series, with its aim being to answer a question/topic in a bitesize form (this book being only 53 pages), I feel that he hit the nail on the head regarding everything he could have spoken upon and provided. This book has benefited me greatly!

A short guide on how to disciple others. It takes about an hour to read but will be a great resource to continually check-in with if you’re mentoring someone. (Lots and lots of Scripture backing everything up!)

This book was incredibly helpful and encouraging, especially as I am trying to be more intentional in the way I disciple others. It provided a fresh perspective on ways to take others along with me in my life and ways in which I can love those around me.
