Cassidy St. Claire's dating life is in shambles, and she’s ready to give up on romance altogether. That is, until Josh Graham—a charismatic man with a killer smile and steely eyes—steps into her world during a girls’ weekend getaway. What starts as a carefree one-night fling turns into something much more complicated when Josh reappears, not only in Cassidy’s life but as the director of the very film she’s working on.

This steamy, tension-filled romance explores the chemistry between two people trying to keep things casual while their undeniable connection keeps pulling them closer. Cassidy and Josh’s playful yet intense dynamic keeps the pages turning, with plenty of banter, heat, and heart.

Perfect for fans of workplace romances and sizzling one-night-stand-turned-more tropes, this story balances humor, passion, and emotional depth, making it hard to put down.

With a wave of her wand(and keyboard), Ellory brings a captivating film-set romance with an unforgettable grumpy-sunshine dynamic, dual POV and featuring our favourite curvy girl, Cass.
Strong, confident, and unapologetically herself, she radiates positivity and light, which contrasted so well with the brooding Josh.

The story starts with an intense instalust that leads to a one-night stand between
costume designer Cass and director, Josh. From their first encounter, their chemistry was off the charts and the attraction between them is palpable, making the reader root for them even as they ghosted each other and moved on.

Things shift when they start working together - spending time and getting to know each other giving way to a slow-burn romance where pining is front and center. We get to see the Josh struggling with his growing feelings and Cass bringing light into his life, even when he fights it and it’s joy to read.

The film set backdrop adds a fun, unique layer to the story. The chaotic, glamorous world of movie-making mirrors the chaotic, simmering emotions between the characters. Watching their relationship unfold against this backdrop was different, entertaining and swoon-worthy.

Lastly, boyyy do we have some serious grovelling. Josh has significant emotional growth, and when he realizes just how much he’s fallen for Cass, the lengths he goes to make things right are both heartfelt and satisfying. His vulnerability and willingness to lay it all out makes it impossible not to root for their happy ending.

A Lucky Shot is a perfect blend of sizzling instalust, pining, and a slow-burn romance that leaves you eager for more. I think this a must-read for romance lovers looking for a fun, emotional, and steamy escape, read this ASAP!

Okay. I loved the first book, but I think I love this one more. No. I don’t think, I know. Class is such an incredible character, how could I not?

Okay, number one, I swear this author must work in every field she writes about because it is done so flawlessly !! Like I feel like I’m at work with them, but at the same time is flows so well and I’m entertained.

Cass is so wonderful. She’s trying to learn to stand up for herself and set boundaries, and the growth she goes through is incredible. I will say I was mad when she met up with Nick in person, because if it were me that would’ve been a text convo. That said, I thinl the author did a good job sticking to character. While I would do it over text, Cass is def a face to face to gal and I like that about her.

Josh is great as her counterpart and love interest. They have enough in common but are also different enough to keep things interesting. You can really see that Cass brings out the best parts of him.

And look, I love a book where the FMC is the only exception, if you know what I mean. Josh is definitely a playboy, but Cass is his exception and I adore that microtrope!

Overall this was such a great book. The banter (especially the texts), the friendships, Jill is back!, I mean everything. This book is not one you should wait to read, this is one you should RUN to buy and read. It’s so amazing. Honestly, it’s one of my top 5 of the year!

Can’t wait for book 3!

Ellory Douglas' A Lucky Shot is the second book in the Bluebird Sky series. It can be read as a standalone.

The book follows Cass and Josh as they agree that their one-night stand must remain just that. Fate brings them together when they end up on the same movie set. She’s the costume designer and he’s the director. Their attraction only gets stronger, making it harder to stay away. The slow burn was flawless. Cass and Josh's story had just the right amount of tension, spice, and funny banter. I also loved that Cass was in her thirties and curvy. She had her fair share of disastrous relationships, but she was strong and independent.

Ellory Douglas did an incredible job with this story. I was captivated from the start and stayed up much too late to finish it! This story was simply amazing and I cannot recommend it enough.

What to expect:
✨Slow Burn & Instalust
💓Pining and Groveling
😎Grumpy X Sunshine
🎥 Film Set Romance
💕One Night Stand
👱‍♀️Curvy FMC
🗣️ Dual POV

If these interest you, then definitely add to your TBR! I look forward to reading more from Ellory Douglas.

Thank you to Sunny Babe PR & the author for sending me a cover of this amazing book!

I can't really tell you how much I absolutely loved it. I was hooked straight from the first page.
Cass was adorable, and I felt like I related to her a lot! Sometimes I really wanted to give her a hug because she deserved so much more than what she was getting. It's truly impossible not to fall in love with her. Every other character was amazing too, I loved Libby and Stephen too. Josh was a confusing character, but I enjoyed his pov of everything too,
The plot twist caught me COMPLETELY off guard but, I'm so glad everything came together in the end. Loved the character development that's so clearly shown for both Cass and Josh as the story falls into line.
The chemistry between Cass and Josh is just THE BEST. The angst, the pining - chef's kiss!!!

The writing in this book is amazing, very detailed and addictive. I felt EVERYTHING just like I was right there in the book. I loved the dual POV so much. The random text message parts were so funny at times, it got me laughing out loud. Extra points for the epilogue, I think I had tears of joy in my eyes!! <3

The spice was so good, it made me wanna break no contact-🌶️🤭

Amazing book, definitely recommended!!

I really enjoyed A Lucky Shot by Ellory Douglas.

Cassidy has had enough of terrible relationships so she decides throw caution to the wind with an attractive stranger on a trip. Of course that didn't go to plan when Josh and Cassidy run into each other on the set of a new movie.

I loved the way their relationship progressed from what was supposed to be a one night fling to co-workers working in close quarters to friends to more.

Cassidy was relatable FMC which I really enjoyed. She was still trying to figure life out and working hard to pursue a career she was passionate about. But the real highlight was watching her growth and seeing her learn to stand up for herself.

This was a super enjoyable read that is definitely work checking out! It is out now and on KindleUnlimited.

A Lucky Shot

Thank you for letting me have this arc! I couldnt put this book down! I completed it within a few days of reading it. I was hooked from chapter one. I realate to cass alot in this book, she is a bundle of joy. When cass and her freinds go to a film fest weekend she bumps into Josh, they both hit it off right away and end up having a night one stand. But due to work they both are in each others paths again. They are highs and lows. Loved the plot twist in this! Josh is a consent king and I love the nickname he gives her. In the end it was a very cute story and so glad I read it.

I was hooked on the premise of a behind-the-cameras romance, and this book delivered big time! While the book is long, it was very indulgent and every scene was a treat. The setting of Calgary (and Vancouver) was very strongly felt, and there was incredible attention to detail on all the subject matter. And, ngl, the spicy scenes were off the charts 🔥🔥🔥 The main characters had incredible chemistry and I loved having the dual POV. I’m so glad I picked this up, and will have to go back and check out the previous book in the series!

𓏲🗒️ꜝֶָ֢ ʾʾ review —

one thing about me is you will ALWAYS see me eat up a book with a curvy/plus-sized FMC set to find romance on a Hollywood set.

i really have to applaud Ellory Douglas for writing such beautiful characters + chemistry + setting & complex feelings that come with these wonderful characters.

i was way more captivated by the way Josh worshipped Cass with his words and stares rather than in the bedroom — and it was STEAMING in the bedroom — which was genuinely thrilling and nothing short of just a sweet, wholesome romance. it was truly the most captivated i’ve felt so far. there was a sweet mix of unadulterated heat and romance coming from Josh even in those moments of pure grumpiness.

Josh was a big ol’ brooding mess who totally never got jealous/protective over Cass at all according to him (he was also delusional) Josh just never fails to make me giggle with all the hot n’ cold behavior because both his outward appearance and inner thoughts were very v e r y obvious to literally anyone!

signing every and any petition to wrap Cass in bubble-wrap for the rest of her life so she’ll never have to hurt a day in her life again. Cass genuinely came to feel like a very real best friend who i just wanted to smother with so much love and support and also knock upside the head sometimes — very lovingly. what can i say: i support women’s rights AND wrongs!

there really is so much i can say about this book and how much i recommend it to everyone and anyone who happens to see it. the slow-burn S L O W B U R N S and the groveling + pining was top tier!

This book had me gripped from the start. Both Cass and Josh were complex characters and it didn’t feel like I was reading a book, it felt like I knew these people in real life and I understood their struggles. Both had moments which felt frustratingly human and when you read the book you’ll find out what I mean. I loved the character growth for both of them, especially when our girlie Cass stood up for herself and had had enough. In a way, Cass represented me with the way she viewed friendships, relationships, and how it sometimes feels like the whole world is moving on and you’re stuck in one spot unable to let go. I wanted to give her a hug and tell her it would all work out.
Josh was...something. He was confusing, jealous, possessive, but at the same time he would NOT express his feelings to Cass and I wanted to scream at him. But as we read about his past it kind of made sense of why he was like this.
AND HE GROVELED HARD SOOOOOOO.
I loved how the story ended without the usual epilogue. The fact that they didn’t need or want traditional things like a picket white fence, a large family, or even the same last name to tie them together because they were enough for each other and they had found their home in the other. It was different from what I usually read and I appreciated it! Overall, I absolutely loved this book and could not recommend it enough!

Wow! This book had be captivated from the beginning. Ellory Douglas did an excellent job of enticing your imagination and creativity. The screen set, production and editing were described including script writing, and costumes design. The making of a movie was very well done. The banter and social interaction was also very well done. Life in the movie industry has been made interesting and fun to follow.

Cass, our curvy but beautiful female protagonist and Josh our male protagonist, meet at an amateur film festival in Vancouver, Canada. A one night stand ensues or at least that is what they thought. Josh is a first assistant director writing screenplays on the side. Cass is a costume assistant who is just wrapping on a major project. Neither knows what the other does but hit it off instantly. Cass is visiting from Calgary with two of her best friends. The three are meant to leave the next morning but Cass spends a very spicy few hours with Josh. The screenplay Josh is working on is picked up and the fun begins with recruiting stagehands and casting actors. Cass is on a short list to head the costume department and Josh is directing the movie. Josh does not know Cass is recruited for the stage crew. The fun continues when Josh and Cass come face to face during a production meeting and the story unrolls from there. There are some twists you will not predict and an outcome that will leave you in tears.

I highly recommend this fun and entertaining book. It is well written and thought out. The tropes include strangers to lovers, only one bed, miscommunication, divorce/marriage discord and workplace/social relations. I gave this cute book a 5⭐️ rating with a 3.5 spicy 🌶️ rating. This book was provided to me by the author and Sunny Babe PR free for an honest review. Thank you to both @Ellory Douglas and @Sunny Babe PR.

I have to say I am so glad that Cass got her own story! I am very pleasantly surprised that Josh was her matched and how well their story played out.

I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to yell at Josh through my kindle lol. His ‘idea’ of how he could help Cass get over her long-time hook-up was just hilariously infuriating. It was obvious time and time again that they were meant to be!

Without spoiling the ending, I will tell you this! This ending was absolute perfection. Chef’s kiss. Watching Cass struggle through constantly getting her heart crushed, it was nice to see she finally gets put first.

This book is:
* Curvy girl romance
* Over 30 and wanting love
* Forced proximity
* Put yourself first, feel-good vibes

I definitely recommend this book and now need to go back and read book one because I like this writing style! Thank you NetGalley! I am happily sharing this review by my own choice.

Thank you to @authorellorydouglas for the opportunity to read this book.

This is my first book by the author and I am honestly just obsessed with it. I read this book in 4 hours…I couldn’t put it down.

Unlucky in love- or more, lucky in love for others as Cass seems to date men who then end up marrying her friends. Cass is still hooked on her ex, Nick but after a one night stand and some promiscuous texts to Josh, she decides to block him to get control of her life. However, they cross paths when she is wardrobe to Josh’s film, which he is directing for. After they decide to start as friends, Josh helps her with her dating life.

Josh is the ultimate cinnamon roll and I just love him. I really wanted to shake them both though and they just wouldn’t admit their feelings!!! This book is a slow burn and I think that’s why I demolished it pretty quick.

I liked Cass. The girl was curvy and I absolutely want to 👏🏻 the author for making her realistically curvy too!! Softness, curves stretch marks, and I loved how much Josh admired her.

This book was funny and sexy but also quite sad in the sense that Cass really just wants someone to love her for who she is.

I need more as I’m not ready to say goodbye to this world. I look forward to the next one.

A Lucky Shot is one of those books that had me hooked from the start. Cassidy is a costume designer who cannot recognize a red flag to save her life. Josh is a film director who is too focused on his movies (and doesn’t do relationships anyways.) The two have a one night stand when they meet at a film festival, and that’s that…except they are actually working on Josh’s new film together.

Cassidy and Josh are such a great duo. They instantly have so much chemistry, and I love how they are literallly a perfect grumpy/sunshine pair. They both have so much character development through the book and I felt so proud of Cass for realizing her self-worth. Josh also had his own growth, and I loved how he calls her his lucky charm 🥹 my heart!

You’ll love this book if you like:
-grumpy X sunshine
-film set romance
-slow burn
-lots of pining & groveling
-one night stand
-curvy FMC
-dual POV
-instalust

Thank you @Sunnybabepr for sending me a copy of this book!! 🩷 I loved it so much!

After the one night stand this book went into slow burn, and I wanted nothing more than for one of the them to give in first. I didn’t care who did it, it just needed to happen. Cassidy’s (Cass) character is fun-loving, sweet, and creative and curvy. Josh is grumpy, gorgeous and complicated. Together they are perfection. But there are secrets, complicated pasts, and distance ruling their lives. I felt like poor Cass could not handle any more bad luck in her love life. But I also wanted her to stick it out to see if Josh would give her the one thing, she needed from him; to trust that he was all in. Josh had expectations from his family that led him to make two very bad decisions in his life. They were both people pleasers and it was part of what was keeping them sort of stuck from moving forward in their lives. My favorite part was Christmas break!

“Just once, I want someone to make an effort.” She blinked hard and turned a brittle smile to him. “Do you think I’m asking too much?” An emotion she couldn’t identify hid behind the shadow that crossed his face. “I don’t think you’re asking for enough.”

I devoured this book and I fell for Cass right away. She is so relatable and you just want to root for her.

I wasn’t sure what to make of Josh at first. An MMC who labels women by physical attributes and rates them on sexual positions in his phone is going to have to work really hard to win me over. But somehow it worked.

I can’t wait to read more by this author. Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC, all my opinions are my own.

“ A reminder that even though one person didn’t love me, I still had a room full of people who did.” 😭😭

I will admit that I judged this book for being a local author and well I’ll be damned, I’ll never make that mistake again. I ADORED this book from start to finish. It was great to see a character that wasn’t physically “perfect” and I felt I could relate to Cass in many ways. Both Cass and Josh’s character development was chefs kiss 🤌🏻 also JOSH JUST BEING OBSESSED WITH HER WAS ALSO😩😩🤭🤭 I also really loved that this told two love stories, Cass & Josh and Cass and herself💛 her self-love journey was also just amazing to see/read. The book would’ve been 5 stars if it was just a bit more devastating lol or had more tear jerking moments but otherwise highly highly recommend!!

“She was a work of art. A Botticellian beauty painted in watercolour, all curves and softness pressed against his hard, lean edges, a secret garden of jasmine and sleepy sweat clouding his thoughts”

Well…I just finished, and I’m grinning. This was my first Ellory Douglas novel and I will happily grab “A Better Proposal” and any others that continue in the series.

I will be honest the start came on a touch strong for me (kinda wondered what I was getting into), but I’m SOOOOOO glad I continued.

It is a love story in its truest form and I could easily see it playing out on the big screen. I felt like everything balanced…the characters, the backstory, the little elements of unknown and the pace that everything travelled at. The ending, the epilogue ugh I’m smiling.

And can I say it was extra exciting that the whole thing was set in my own backyard (which is always an added bonus).

Lucky Shot has some of the most relatable characters I've ever read. You want to hug Cass everytime something happens to her and you want to cheer for her when she realizes what she deserves. The banter between Josh and Cass is so fun to see as their friendship grows.

A work place romance but with a twist.
I love that this take place on a movie set and I love even more that it's the behind the scenes people that are the focus. I hope we see more of their friends from on set in the future

This book was so good! I absolutely loved Cass, she felt relatable, she was so real and open, and I envied her nearly unshakable optimism. Josh was a really contrasting character, but I guess opposites attract and all that 😁 They did have great chemistry and banter, I enjoyed watching their relationship grow, even though I wanted to slap Josh multiple times 😒
Cass' vulnerable drunk moment broke my heart and this was one of those times where I wanted to shake some sense into Josh.

"No wonder she didn’t believe he loved her. He hadn’t shown her."

Duh, dude! 🤦🏻‍♀️ You'd think as a movie director, he wouldn't be so clueless about grand gestures, but he was slow on the uptake on that one. I almost wanted to root for Dawson at some point 😅
But no, he ended up doing great, and I appreciated his effort of including everyone that mattered into showing how important Cass was.

You'll love this book if you enjoy:
📽️ Insta-lust, slow burn love
🪡 Grumpy x Sunshine
📽️ Film set romance
🪡 Curvy FMC
📽️ Pining (and grovelling)
🪡 One night stand

So obsessed with Ellory Douglas books after reading A Lucky Shot!

What's better than a hot, no strings attached hookup while on vacation to break a dry spell? Cass is thrilled by the prospect and Josh is counting himself lucky. But then Cass ghosts him and he can't figure out why it matters...and then she walks onto the set of his break out movie. Now the grumpy director who is only nice for her is confused as to why he's helping her move on from her toxic ex and even more confused as to why he cares so much about her blind online dates that he picked. (Anyone able to help him out with this one? 😉)

I can't say enough good things about this book! With the exception of a third act plot twist that made me screech out loud, every minute of this book made me laugh and swoon and there was definitely sweat during some of those spicy scenes. So much drama on set between some of the sweetest and funniest characters who I'd love updates on in future books because they deserve all the best. It was also cool to have a behind the scenes movie romance that didn't involve actors but the people who work behind the scenes in creating cinematic perfection. All the ways Cass and Josh come together, support each other, really see each other and find a way to say exactly the right thing without having any clue they're doing it made my heart so happy

What happens in Vancouver doesn't stay in Vancouver, at least not for Cass. On a girls trip, while trying to get over the player who has his hooks in her back home Cass has her fun with an other playboy. The catch, she really like him, and he turns out to be the director on the next film she will work wardrobe on.
This was so fun, with the one night stand, help me date tropes I just loved every minute of it. And the secondary characters are just lovely. I really wish I was part of that group. A great story with great characters and awesome tropes. I can't wait to read more about these characters.
