Yup. It's that kind of book, folks. 🤠 I'm appalled, but at the same time, I want to applaud the author for being brave enough to pull off this type of shit. There are trigger warnings at the beginning, and the book is very KINKY, but I still wasn't expecting it to be completely bonkers and unhinged. And for that, I'm still giving it a high rating. 😌

I would like to start by saying, I love the dedication in this book. Continue by saying I know there is psychology that explains why we read such books. Finish by saying ideally, the greatest thing I didn't like about the story was the age gap. All the other issues/trigger warnings/kinks I would like to classify them under the bendera of we do not talk about Blake in public but I absolutely loved that when Lora "got onboard with it", she matched his freak.

Wtf did I just read?? I never thought I'd say this but Zade Meadows is a saint compared to this guy, Haunting Adeline was 1000 times better. I thought this would be another short novelette but this has like, traumatized me.
I was gonna DNF this book but then I decided to read it to find out if the female main character made the right decision. Girly made the worst decision AND was happy. I- I'm speechless😭😭

my #1 fan requested that i read this, it was only 6 chapters and somehow there was no smut in the first chapter. a VERY cheeky novelette. maybe overpromised and under delivered on all the kinks mentioned in the content warnings. however probably my first and last p!ss k!nk book.

This was absolutely insane.
Just when one revelation is revealed, we get another, and another, and another; it's so over the top that I couldn't help but love this.
Blake is a green flag for me (I'm clearly colorblind). All the things he wanted to do/ did... especially that last bit in the shower 🫣 my gawd. I've never read that before in a book and now I understand what Adler meant in the dedication- my answer is possibly 😅

Uhhh, hellloooo! Am I still alive from the pleasure this book brought me. I’m sick, deranged, and psychotic just like Blake and Lora are because boy was this hot. This cheeky little novella was the absolute best for a whole lotta spice in your life. If you’re looking for a book to get you outta slump this one is it right here. If you’re not into some wild k!nks check the triggers but you won’t regret reading it, you’ll be wondering how all of it works lol. Such a phenomenal job with the one, May! I think I’ve reached my limit with this one. I can handle stalker vibes, and I’m even somewhat okay with a breeding kink—but golden showers and period-related activities are where I draw the line. It’s a definite NO for me. Honestly, I shouldn’t have picked up this story.

Argumento:

Por tercer mes consecutivo, me duele el estómago cuando tengo que enfrentarme a mi compañero de cuarto, Blake, y decirle que no puedo pagar mi parte del alquiler después de que mi jefe redujo mis turnos de trabajo. Blake se ofrece a regañadientes a cubrir la diferencia una vez más , pero sólo si hago algo por él primero...



Mi humilde opinión:

Disfruto las historias eróticas y pervertidas, a pesar de las advertencias de la autora sobre los desencadenantes de esta me atreví a leer porque ya había leído otra de sus historia de esta serie pero Short on Rent no terminó siendo mi taza de té como se dice. Más aún con el epílogo que no fue para nada sexy y nunca leí nada igual antes. Pero cada quién con su kinks no?

Voy a recordar a Blake como el héroe más loquísimo porque sobrepasa la obsesión conocida. La manera de acosar y manipular a Lora fue increíble. Me ponía algo incómoda el consentimiento dudoso. Lora no es una mujer que pone el freno y hace escuchar su "No". No fue un personaje que me gustara o hiciera algo.

Este es un romance corto erótico que se lee en horas con un epílogo que me deja pensando sin habla.

Author May Alder mentioned that “Short on Rent” may be a bit crazy and make some readers squirm, and of course, I was there for every wild moment of it. The novella is complete of the typical shminks in May Alder’s other stories, but she added some new ones and went into graphic details with her character Blake as he uses them. The novella is short and sweet, too, with a HEA.

I think this would’ve landed better if it was a longer story. The creep to husband pipeline was FAST. Too fast. And I don’t mean a novel, just a longer novella vs novelette. The timeline was too big for a novelette.
