Liam I was drowning in debt and my sister needed help, so I made a terrible choice. I borrowed money from the infamous Marchesi family, knowing I had no way to pay them back. Did I think I could evade them? Did I think I’d win the lottery? No, I didn’t think at all. I just acted. Now, a killer is at my door, a man known for his ruthlessness, his persistence, and the way he can bring a man to his knees – for business or pleasure. I’ve got to find a way to pay him back, and the only thing I own free and clear is my body.
Valentino My job is extracting money from delinquent clients. If they can’t pay with cash, they pay with pain. The next client on my list is Liam, but when I show up at his house ready to take his money or break him, I find a desperate young man who intrigues me so much I consider other options. When he offers himself as payment, I long to torment him in ways we’ll both enjoy, but clients are off limits, and only fools break Marchesi family rules. I might just let him make a fool of me.

There are two serious continuity errors during two different scenes that are pretty bad. The book reads like a draft that wasn’t proof read by anyone, possibly including the author.
It was also too instalust and instalove which I normally like, but it didn’t really feel well written enough for me to believe it. It was too much in the cartoon style of one character being bonked on the head and little hearts and birds showing up over his head.
I have a friend who suggested two more of this author's books. So I’m going to read them in hopes of a better experience. I was very disappointed since so many people I know love this author and her series. Hopefully this one was just a fluke in errors.
So I’ve come to the conclusion that this author and I don’t mix anymore. I have read both the marchesi and the vigilance series and I liked both of those but I haven’t liked anything she’s written after that. Idk if it’s the writing or the characters or the story line but I just can’t get into them like I used to.
I honestly didn’t really like this book that much. I have no idea why I kept reading it. I told myself over and over I was going to put it down but I kept reading it hoping it would get better. I didn’t really like either of the characters. Val was an asshole most of the time. I did like when he was sweet with Liam which was later on and I did like that he was super possessive. But he would literally kill anyone who touched Liam and then talk about how he needed to go find someone to hook up with to get Liam off his mind. That annoyed me. I also didn’t like that his resolution to helping Liam was to make him a stripper at their strip club. Like how can you be so possessive over him and yet let him do all that.
Liam had BBS soo bad! Val would be a complete ass to him and Liam would salivate over it. Val could have said it did anything and Liam would still drop to his knees for him. Also there was a scene where Liam gave this guy a lap dance while naked. Val had told him he didn’t want him doing any lap dances and Liam had done it anyway.
The plot wasn’t my favorite either. I’m used to mafia books having MCs that are in the power seat and they called the shots but here Val was under his fathers thumb and he looks so weak in the scenes with his father and then I feel like when he was with Liam he tried to assert his dominance because he wasn’t allowed to do that with his father or anywhere else.
Anyway I probably won’t read the next book because Vito is a manwhore and I believe his love interest is one as well.
NO CHEATING? (They aren’t together when Liam gives a naked lap dance) ONLY OM DRAMA IS THE LAP DANCE NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP MURDER
This book was so good. It's fast paced and you don't have to sit through long drawn out scenes where the characters don't interact with each other. In this book, which is my first from this author, you get so much on screen time with the MC's and hardly any scenes with too many secondary characters. I love that! To me, I want the swoon, the angst, the tension together.
I would definitely continue this series. It was so cute. I can't wait to go through the author's entire catalog now and have fun reading.
3 ⭐️ This book is entertaining. But it’s nothing spectacular, and that is because sometimes things were hasty, even the steamy scenes. Some things didn’t feel genuine to me, but I guess those things are subjective. Anyway, that’s how I felt. I enjoyed it nonetheless. 👏🏻
This book was a turn off for me. DNF @ 31% First off, I like powerful MCs to have actual power, when holding power. In this case Val is almost ridiculed by his brother, bartender, bar manager and father, no respect. He gives half assed solutions to helping Liam. Liam, he has not earned my respect at all. He has a full on understanding sister and yet puts himself in an impossible position owing so much money that he is literally starving. Plus other reasons that are on me. Degradation kink is valid but does nothing for me, I do not enjoy reading it. I just cannot believe that he gets hard the worse Val treats him... Not for me this one😐🙃
This was so much fun! Very pleased to be back in this world with the Marchesi family. It was neat to learn more about the other ruling families in the area. But of course, the real joy was watching Val and Liam develop their relationship. I really enjoyed the dynamic the formed. Kind of want to see a book that focuses on Tyler, but not sure if that'll happen. Excited to see where this series takes us next, regardless.
this and all future re-reads: I love the Marchesi universe books so very much. (can I just add that the mention of Carlo made me stupid-happy? because it did.)
Tragic events lead Liam to turning towards borrowing money from the money and also lead him right into the path of Val — the son of one of the powerful leaders and the one sent to take care of debt collectors. Desperation has Liam offering himself in as payments but Val has other plans.
These two were extremely hot together and I loved watching how soft AND possessive Val got for Liam. However, I did feel like the feeling somehow progressed so suddenly. It went from lust to Feelings in a short span of time and my issue with that is always not believing it. But, that didn’t take away from the fun of the book and watching these two get their happy ending. I will definitely be tuning in for the next book! If you like hot mafia books, lots of possessiveness — then you’d enjoy this!!
4 stars – “Liam was an addiction, an obsession, and that was dangerous…”
Sylvia Violet does it again. Blood Money is book 1 of the Marchesi Loan Sharks series. The series name alone told me this would be another book to devour. Book 1 introduces us to Liam O'Shaughnessy, a young man carrying the heaviest of burdens…dealing with the death of his parents and caring for his sister Ava. Like any brother, Liam does anything and everything to provide for Ava, especially paying for her tuition. But to do that, he needs to borrow money. Where does he go? The Marchesi's!
With the loan in default, Liam is visited by Valentino (Val) Marchesi, the illegitimate son of Dominic Marchesi. Even though Val runs businesses and collects on debts, he's always one mistake away from incurring his father's wrath and being thrown out on the street with his brother Vito. However, in meeting Liam to collect on his debt, he slowly becomes obsessed with him!
From here, the story begins to showcase the lust/obsession/love between Liam and Val. While initially, I got a bit annoyed that Liam ALWAYS second-guessed himself and whether Val really could love him and not just be in lust with him, as the story carries on, we find why Liam constantly questions his worth, especially his worthiness to loved by a scrupulous yet lustful man.
While we also see some twists and turns in the story, we also see Val's soft and caretaking side toward Liam. I wouldn't say savior, but besides Ava, Val is another person on Liam's side. For Val, there was no one like Liam… "He was mine, and I needed to make him see that, even if he couldn't love me, I wasn't letting him go."
Blood Money is DEFINITELY a great start to another Marchesi chapter. While I loved seeing past Marchesi characters, I enjoyed Liam and Val's story and their HEA. I cannot wait to read Vito's story! If you want a story about lustful and possessive love, the only way Sylvia Violet can create it, this book is for you!
***I received an ARC of this book from the author, and this is my honest review. ***
A solid start to a new series. I’m all about a good mafia story and this universe is one of my favorites. I will say that, while the stories are slightly formulaic, but they are enjoyable.
Val and Liam seemed to compliment one another nicely. They definitely had good chemistry in the bedroom. I also really liked Val’s possessive vibes and downright growliness.
I’m interested in Vito’s story as well. He gives off great little brother energy and I can’t wait to meet his match. Val and Vito’s father, Dom, seemed like a real tool. And while we were supposed to change our minds by the end of the book about him, I certainly did not.
A solid read that left me interested for the next story. 4 stars.
I'm not rating this book because it simply wasn't for me but I can tell it would be for others. If you're into porn without plot, D/s elements and trope-filled characters and elements, this is a sexy and steamy book that does exactly what it sets out to do. I went into this book hoping for a balanced romance/high stakes plot, but left sorely disappointed and a bit confused by the deus ex machina ending.
Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time? No.
See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book
CHARACTERS: While the characters have a couple of quirks that make them dynamic, overall what we have here is your typical tropes: size difference, D/s elements, rich/poor, a compromising situation that rubbed me the wrong way, and ultimately the characters filled the roles they were designed for, rather than a story about characters. Even then, I didn't find myself rooting for them because it didn't feel like an actual love-bond at all.
PLOT: While there supposedly is an external plot that involves mafia families, the plot is simply ignored in favor of multiple and rather constant steamy scenes, the dominant character constantly saving the sub character, and in the end there wasn't actually an ending to the plot. It simply gets thrown by the wayside. I actually couldn't believe the book ended because it was missing all the major build up and climax. Sure, they get together with an obviously-constructed HEA, so if you're looking for that, you'll get it here.
EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.
1:5/low. Which is fine. Surprising given the setting, but not a bad thing.
CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?
25%. There is a HEA. That's about all I can give it. But there is no major climactic event, all the build up is for nothing and suddenly everything is wrapped up so perfectly and neatly and focuses solely on making sure the two main characters are together at the end. And I wasn't all that enamored with their relationship by the end either. They didn't feel like they belonged together. Very unfulfilled and unsatisfying.
Liam was drowning in debt and his sister needed help, so he made a terrible choice and borrowed money from the infamous Marchesi family, knowing he had no way to pay them back. Now, a killer is at his door, a man known for his ruthlessness, his persistence, and the way he can bring a man to his knees – for business or pleasure. He's got to find a way to pay him back, and the only thing he owns free and clear is his body. Valentino's job is extracting money from delinquent clients. I loved this story which was a great introduction to the new series. Valentino and his brother were great characters and Val's obsessive ownership of Liam was absolute. Lots of drama around these two men and it was fun to see the way their relationship developed with Liam's defiance and determination to not give in completely were a gift. Lots of feelings and emotions in this story from both characters. I love the twists and the end of the story. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
I received this book as an ARC. This review is my own independent opinion after reading the book.
Liam and Valentino are thrown together as the result of an unpaid loan, and the story is of how that loan is repaid as the main characters develop their "relationships". There are twists and turns as the book progresses and as the story deepens and darkens. I was not expecting the way the story takes towards the happy ending and there were times I was not sure how things would turn out. (I am a non repentant romantic for a HEA)
Expanding on the Marchesi Family series this does not disappoint. I will admit I am a fan of Sylvia Violet, her books are not vanilla (this book describes 2 violent deaths) but she is an amazing wordsmith, painting pictures with her words and storylines.
It also begins to introduce us to potential future characters and stories, frankly I cant wait. I read this book in a single sitting because I couldn't put it down. I cried, laughed and gasped at times and loved every page. I have already pre ordered number 2.
Finally, you could read this as a stand alone, as it follows the timeline from the Marchesi dynasty books which are all written with the same skill and style. 5 stars all the way.
Following the Marchesi family mob books, this book follows another branch of the family who are loan sharks. You don't need to have read the others to enjoy this, but it will add extra context to the story. Liam has lost pretty much everything in his life, apart from his sister, following a RTA. He is beyond broke and indebted to the Marchesi's after taking a loan. Valentino is unsure of his place is in the family, and is looking for any opportunity to secure the future for himself and his brother Vito. He is given the task of getting money from Liam. When is becomes obvious that there is no money to be had, they strike a deal of a different kind. This is a dark mafia romance with morally grey characters, a possesive 'touch him and die' loan shark and a man who has very little left to lose. Liam is fighting anyway to get out from the hole he finds himself in, but he can't see any value in himself. Val is uber possessive of Liam, but lying to himself that it's only so he can recoup the money and impress his father. See old friends from the Families stories and meet new ones during the wild ride that is Blood Money. Can Liam realise his worth? Can Val see what's in front of him? When a secret is revealed can they work together to secure their future?
I always enjoy spending time in the Marchesi world and this new spin off was a fun read. This author is skilled at making her mobsters menacing and dangerous, but with just enough humanity to make the interesting and dimensional as characters. Liam is in a dangerous spot, verging on eviction, desperate and owing money Dominic Marchesi. Val is working as his father’s enforcer and debt collector and I really felt for the precarious position they are both in. As the illegitimate son of the scary and powerful Dom, Val’s at his father’s mercy. Val also knows what it is like to be hungry and desperate, plus he’s got a really inconvenient attraction to Liam. The two agree for Liam to work off the debt dancing at the club Val runs. I loved the tension and danger in the plot, and this was definitely a page turner for me. The characters are also well executed and especially like that the author lets Val be scary -outside of Liam, there’s not really much of a soft center to him. I also really enjoyed Val’s connection to his brother Vito, they were another highlight. I’m looking forward to more, a great start for this new series!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Silvia Violet is not a new to me author and there's a reason I keep coming back for more! A great start to a somewhat new series (this one ties to her Marchesi family series) and I quickly enjoyed Liam and Valentino's story.
Liam, who after his parents died in a car accident, is left not only with the medical bills but also to care for his younger sister. He's done everything to ensure she finishes college, as far as taking out a loan from the Marchesis'. But tough times keep hitting him that he' fallen behind on that loan. Enter Valentino, who is tasked to collect the payments. When Liam isn't able to pay, he's now working for the family.
There's so much more to the story and I enjoyed it to the very last page! You get insta-attraction/love to a morally grey character, although I think Val has a soft spot for Liam, and the harsh realities of a cruel and unusual mafia world. You also get cameos from some favorites from the Marchesi family and introduced to new ones, I honestly can't wait to read Val's brother's story, I have a feeling that Vin is as morally grey as his brother but also a bit of a softie! I loved everything about Blood Money, five stars. Happy reading all!
'Blood Money' was a decent start to Silvia Violet's new series - Marchesi Loan Sharks. Liam carries the weight of thinking he killed his parents in a car accident several years ago. He takes it upon himself to take care of his sister and her schooling, but it all comes crashing down on him when Valentino comes knocking on his door and looking for the money Liam owes his family. Something in the way Val looked at Liam that day told Liam that he'd be working off his debt in a whole different way. Valentino is a possessive man whose murderous ways get in the way of winning Liam's heart at first. Liam's dancing at Val's club was supposed to be a way for Liam to pay off his debt and for Val to keep an eye on his object of obsession. But, when one too many men lay their hands on Liam, Val goes feral, and his obsession with Liam makes him a liability to his family. The primal scenes were written well, and where I was suspicious of Val's feral streak at first, it made him a three-dimensional character. I wanted to like Liam's character, but he was too worried about not being his own person, but at the same time, not really fighting for it. The action was clumped at the end, and the middle dragged a little for me, but I look forward to the next book in the series.
The Blood Money is the first book in a new series in the Marchesi Universe. After Liam's parents die, he's determined to help his sister with her studies. With no other option, he borrows money from the Marchesi. The main story begins when Valentino comes to collect Liam's debt. Since Liam doesn't have the money, he offers Liam a deal and Liam agrees. The situation is not perfect for either of them, especially when they both find each other attractive. But Valentino knows that his actions are against his father's rules and he has to find a way to handle the situation between them.
This story is part of the Marchesi universe, so we have the opportunity to meet various characters from previous books as well as new ones whose stories have not yet been told.
The plot was interesting and I really liked the twists in the story. It was so good I couldn't put the Kindle down.
Overall we get everything I love about Silvia's books, a good and exciting plot, interesting and true characters, lots of emotion and a guaranteed HEA in the best way.
I received this book as an ARC. This is my personal opinion.
Good story, nice characters, hot enough scenes. My practical mind couldn't quite follow the pigheadedness of Liam to move into a storage unit and even though Valentino paid him $1000 each timne they had sex, he still wouldn't eat enough food. It would probably not have delayed him repaying the loan by more than one or two sexual encounters to use some of the money to eat properly. I was not happy about the use of the term genertor to run the fan in the storage unit. This was either taking serious "literary license" because your usual power generator runs of fossil fuels. So would be a noisy thing that would have had to be run outside and supply electricity via an extension cord to the storage unit inside. The better term would have been "Portable Power Station". Most of these are heavy, and will need recharging for about 2 hours between if plugged into an electrical outlet, like it was decribed in the book. But these are not generators. Sorry to be picky, but authors need to consider that some people read their books and then think you can use a generator indoors and end up poisoning themselves with noxious gasses. There needs to be some care taken to get the terms right.
First off, I just want to say, what a great start to a new series!
The story starts with Liam at the hospital with his sister Ava after he was involved in a car accident with his parents in the car. As he is injured, he is unable to work and needs to find the money quick to pay for his sister's tuition for Nursing school and to keep them afloat.
Liam goes to the Marchesi's for a loan. When he defaults on his payments Valentino Marchesi is sent to collect the money one way or another. As Liam has no money, they work out an arrangement to pay the money back.
This is the beginning of the story on how they eventually fall in love through many ups, downs and misunderstandings. The pages steam with the heat and chemistry between the two characters and even though the Marchesi's work on the shady side of the law, Valentino's heart is in the right place.
I won't go over the blurb as you can read in the description. 🧐🤔 𝖳𝗁𝖾 𝖬𝖺𝗋𝖼𝗁𝖾𝗌𝗂 𝖥𝖺𝗆𝗂𝗅𝗒 𝖲𝖾𝗋𝗂𝖾𝗌 0.5. Mob Boss 1. Lucien - Lucien & Peter 2. Angelo - Angelo & Cameron 3. Devil - Devil & Joes 4. Who doesn't love an MM Mafia series. 📚 I read The Marchesi Family Series first & this new series is connected to that & God is it intense the angst is medium spice hot. 🔥🌶️ Liam's stubbornness frustrated me, but it was a fantastic start to a Mafia series. 🔫 Thank you, Silivia Violet 💐 Narrator Michael Dean brilliant narration.Thank you🎧 Story 📚📚📚📚 Characters ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Narration 👄 👄 👄 👄 #BloodMoney #MarchesiLoanSharkSeries #SilviaViolet #Narrator #MichaelDean #ValentinoAndLiam #Mafia #MM #Action #Angst #Adult #GreatStart #Audiobooks
Valentino and Liam story was intense, hot and dangerous. Their first meeting was imminent but their reaction to each other wasn’t the expected one as they both have their baggage and reservations in expressing their feelings. Their chemistry is off the charts, but lack of trust and not expressing truthfully give them grief. I liked the protectiveness and possessiveness, as well as the way the ones who intervened between them were dealt with. I really liked seeing the Marchesi again and their way of dealing with things. There’s a couple of secrets along the way that will change things as well as lives. I liked the danger and adrenaline, the hot and sweet moments, and also liked this new branch of the family. It was exhilarating and I’m looking forward to see what happens next.
What a roller coaster ride this is! This subject doesn't only delve into what assassins do to get victims forced into repaying loans but the essence of what "blood" is to what mobsters firmly believe their families' traditions must adhere to. The saying "Honor Among Thieves" is a strict code of honor that the ending of this book illustrates what happens when one family breaks this code. What evolves between weary Liam and enforcer Valentino is an unalterable attraction that goes against this Marchesi branch of the family and takes the reader on a seesaw of inevitable up and downs that has the intensity to hold a person's attention to discover whatever is next to come. I got an ARC of this work, and this is my voluntary and willing review.
Liam is in a rough spot. After the death of his parents, he borrows money from the Marchesis' to pay their medical bills and his sister college tuition.
Valentino is tasked by his father to collect the payments Liam. When Liam can't pay, he ends up working for one of the families businesses.
This book had a bit of everything. Instant attraction in a morally grey, brutal world. It was gritty and violent with a well paced, interesting story line that kept me thoroughly invested the whole way through.
I loved this spin off from the Marchesis Family series. Great to see some old favourites and meet some new ones. It's an awesome beginning to a new series and I look forward to more.
The tragic loss of their parents forced Liam to grow up quickly in order to care for his sister. He made a rash decision to borrow money from a loan shark in order to put her through college. Now that money is due and Liam can't repay the debt. He makes another rash decision and offers himself as payment. Vin is in charge of collections for his family and the chemistry between these was immediate. He has no problem with taking Liam up on his offer. What surprises him is how possessive and protective he feels towards Liam. Vin then decides that Liam will work for his family in order to pay off the debt. This in turn leads to some fast paced action, danger, drama and twists and turns as they try to stay ahead of the danger.
OMG. What a ride. The story starts with Liam and Ava at the hospital after he got into an accident with his parents in the car. It tells how Liam lost his job as it was taking him longer to recover. Liam went to the Marchessi’s for a loan so his sister can continue going to school. When Valentino went to see him about getting the money back, and with Liam having no money to give, they worked on an arrangement to have the money paid back. This is the start of the story of how they worked together to get the debt paid back and falling in love. Great world building with lots of heat and chemistry between them. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I loved this book! The start to a new series about another branch of the Marchesi family begins with Valentino and Liam’s story. The circumstances under which the two meet aren’t the best but I love how their relationship changes as the story unfolds. We get to encounter some new and some familiar Marchesi men along the way and they will be an integral part of Val and Liam’s happy ending. Val’s brother Vito is quite the character and I can’t wait to read his story! There are some truths about Liam’s past that we get to learn and they help to make this story an absolute must read!
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
