Wow that was a good book!! The book was released today and I got it all read today. I couldn’t put it down! At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to be happy about the change of characters but after a couple of chapters I was invested. An emotional rollercoaster but I loved it! I’m now happy we got even more characters (friends/family)! I can’t wait to see how and when the groups will meet. The scene with the boy and bird and the prayer…it was great and made me tear up (I’m not really religious only a bit spiritual so I guess that makes sense). Some major woman power in this book!! I like when Olivia says she’s just checking or saying it twitched… makes me giggle. Possible spoilers— I was getting really worried towards the end with Todd, Debs, Samir and Thor. I wanted to reach into the book and hit Todd the whole time. I bet the others felt Debra’s fight and emotions so that’s why the group went back. Todd got exactly what he deserved! It would be nice if similar justice could happen in the real world when something like that happens. I was sad about the pigeon and her one baby. I hope Elaine can change like Marcy did. But then again if she doesn’t, it makes for other suspenseful storylines and books. I’m excited to learn more about these characters!!

This book returns to the first day of the outbreak but this time, the plot follows new characters.
I really liked Mike. His connection to other characters was quite obvious but I still enjoyed getting to know him, especially because he was determined to help people despite how he was treated as a homeless person.
Mike's group of survivors seem to have a similar hive mind as Howie and his team. I'm curious about Samy and his abilities, especially because he is blind but sees more than other people.
The pacing was a bit too slow for me so the plot dragged at times.
Elaine was actually an interesting character. Once she was turned but was able to keep her own thoughts and control other zombies, she was a lot smarter. The moment she shared with Sophie was actually quite sweet, despite The Infection trying to urge Elaine to kill Sophie.
The ending was good. I liked the plot twist and how Mike and the other survivors managed to escape
I wasn’t expecting an entirely new cast of characters when I started reading this one, but I loved it! Howie and his crew are only mentioned once or twice in passing, so this story is not about them at all.
I was once again hooked right from the beginning. We meet Mike, a homeless Scotsman in Winchester, just before the infection starts. He then goes on to meet a whole new cast, which sounds like it would be hard to keep track of, but each character is described well, and I had no issues keeping up here at all.
The story carried us through a fair few days, and leaves us not quite on a cliff-hanger, but definitely knowing that these characters will pop up again at some point.
Simply amazing. Just how can an author write a book like this, full of violence, loss, love and hope with new characters that just sing in harmony and for it all to come to life perfectly?
Such a start, such a natural evolution in this incredible series, that I just had to read this book in a single day. These new characters are just something else, so vivid and real, their scars and history almost tangible.
The story is fantastic, the series is fantastic, I’m amazed that this author and this series of books are not a global success yet, the perfect blend of humanity, humour and hope. Breathtaking.
Once again RR Haywood keeps you gripped from the very beginning. If you're a fan of this series you'll probably feel like I did initially, wondering where and how these new characters and storyline will link to Howie and the gang. Wow, what a masterful way to keep the reader invested in the series, I feel it was just what the doctor ordered, new characters and storyline set up perfectly to link the whole series. Brilliant just brilliant...
I loved the new characters, you can see definite traits of the original gang in each new identity. I look forward to the next instalment and seeing where this group goes and grows.
This series, I tell you, just gets better and better. Each book exciting, funny (yes funny!!) and I tell you something else (!) makes me anxious! It’s so brilliantly well written and introducing new characters which I didn’t even think we needed but they all go so well into this amazing tale of a zombie apocalypse like no other you would ever have read about before. I guarantee it! And breath……… Phew!!!
We are introduced to new characters and it’s testament to The Boss’ writing that it’s not jarring this deep into such a beloved series. You just welcome them in and want to get to know them, and find out where and how they are going to dovetail with the established Pack. Things feel as though they are building to a crescendo which could well be just around the corner…
This is storytelling at its best… it weaves together the stories of past events with things the characters are experiencing without them knowing why. Sounds confusing… don’t be, read this next episode in the series and everything is clearer. You won’t be disappointed!!!
Got this on release day and couldnt wait to read it. A totally new cast which was a big suprise but if it keeps the series going then great. Hardly a mention of the original characters but so entertaining and sometimes puzzling as well ( whats happening with the kid ?). Loved it as always and looking forward to the next one. 😀😀😀😀😀
Each time I read a book in this series I think it won't be as good as the last one but they always are. He's just a magician author a merlin at his round table . The only thing I dislike is the thought of not having another to read straight after. Much love Richard and well done .....again x
I could not put it down!! Loving the new characters so much! The compulsion to read making it hard to do anything else like sleep. Set in Winchester with a lot of landmarks used (and destroyed). It took me back to the Isle of Wight days. I have to say I can’t wait to read more. Well done boss!!
A new cast of characters being introduced at this point was quite refreshing. Invested in them and the story very quickly, with the usual fun and banter. As ever I sometimes find it jarring when the authors own biases come out in the story/dialogue. We get it. You're a middle aged white man who doesn't understand young people and is nostalgic for "how things used to be"... Still enjoyed it though
Phew!!! New characters to love or loathe. New perspectives and still one of the most amazing series of books! Bravo R R Haywood another rollercoaster of a ride reading this latest installment.......
I'm too greedy! Literally eating these up as they come out, can't wait for 32!! Another perfect release boss, don't know how you're doing it but keep it up! Not at all what I expected this time, and yet...
I have read many book series but these are by far the most enjoyable I have experienced, each character is so well written I find myself caring what happens to them I really don't want it to end.
Wow what a rush, filled with a host of new characters yet so fast paced and interesting. The fact you have blown up most of my birth town is fair. Such an enjoyable read thank you.
Now that's what I'm here for! This book had me from chapter 1. It was funny, sad and creepy. "And still" one of the best days in the series. I need Day 32 now. I hope it won't be a long wait.
Brilliant books, Ace new characters, far to short. Read everything this guy wrote, my favourite, up there with Abercrombie and Martin. Please finish humility.
R. R. Haywood (the boss) delivers yet again. This series is by far the greatest zombie series ever written. I recommend these books to everyone I meet.
It's a great book reading about other survivors and what they go through fighting the undead!! Can't wait for the next installment of the undead series. Well done boss
A look at the Winchester area before and after the outbreak. It brings together another batch of survivors and two new apex infected....one good one bad
Another fab read. Rr haywood can do no wrong, a genius at bringing characters to life and making you forget to feed your kids because it's impossible to stop reading
Love seeing this period from a different perspective and really looking forward to seeing where this goes geographically and personally for each character
