Three girls, all friends and roommates, each with their own goal at Alpha Academy.

One wants to dance circles around her competition while getting the boy she wants; one wants to prove to the headmistress that she's worth her weight in gold and tell the truth to her ex-boyfriend about their breakup; and one hopes that no one will find out she's using someone else's acceptance letter and identity at the Academy.

When the real Allie J. Abbott comes to Alpha Academy, Allie A. finds herself lonely, without friends, and without a boyfriend. Skye finds herself hating the real Allie J. and wants to find a way to get her kicked out of the academy. When Charlie offers to knock out the island's security cameras, fate seems to be on her side, but will she be able to win the guy, win the competition, and still be true to herself?

Charlie is trying to keep the peace in their dorm house, but it's hard when the one she thought was her best friend turned out to be somebody she wasn't. Charlie comes up with a brilliant idea to knock out all of the security cameras, so that her friends can really shine and outshow Allie J. while mending their friendships. It seems like the perfect plan for everyone, but will Charlie be able to forgive Allie A. and give up her ex-boyfriend to help her roommate out?

Honesty and loyalty are tried, romances tested, and friendships are on rocky ground at Alpha Academy. Only one person can win the title of Alpha. Who will get sent home and who will stay to try and achieve their dream?

This story is really well-done. The characters are easy to relate to, the problems they face are believable, and the plot is well-developed. MOVERS AND FAKERS will appeal to any girl who's ever faced betrayal, competition, and/or boyfriends.

Readers who have liked the CLIQUE series as well as realistic fiction will especially enjoy this sequel to ALPHAS.

Movers and Fakers is the 2nd book to the Alphas series by Lisi Harrison. I adore Lisi Harrison and her best selling Clique series, so I HAD to read this series. Her writing is just so good. In this book, Allie A's real identity gets revealed. The real Allie J starts to attend Alpha academy. Charlie and Skye feel betrayed when they find out that she was just pretending to be Allie J. They ignore her. Darwin even ignores her. Everyone is just shocked. Allie J keeps making snarky comments about how she's so flattered that Allie A wanted to be like her. Skye has her own problems when she can't decide who she likes better: Syd or Taz. But in the end, she chooses exciting Taz over boring Syd. Charlie is having a hard time not thinking about Darwin. She likes him, but Allie A likes him too. When they become friends again, Charlie tries to hook Allie A up with Darwin, but Darwin doesn't have any feelings for Allie. He has feelings for Charlie.
I think that Darwin seems like a really good boyfriend. He tells Charlie that he doesn't like Allie and that he only wants to be with her. And then he texts her that he'll fight for her and for them forever. ISN'T THAT JUST THE SWEETEST?! Yes, yes it is. I think that Allie A is really annoying. She tries too hard to try to lure Darwin in. Bleh, I hate girls like that.
I thought that this book was really nice. The story line is unique. It's not your usual story about 3 best friends in the same highschool. It's so much more than that. It shows how girls really think and what they have to do to win.

Fake. This is how I would describe this book. I don’t like to criticize writers, but I just felt that this author was so far off the mark that it seemed forced and uncomfortable. The plot seemed outrageous. While I could have believed the concept of “Alpha” teens who have realistic talents, this school was full of teens that were beyond realistic. The girls are totally phony and unlikable. The inventors and inventions were so far-fetched that they seemed laughable. The dialect also seemed phony. While I understood what the characters were saying, I kept thinking that I haven’t heard teens use the “valley girl speak” since the 80’s. Finally, the thing that irritated me the most was that there didn’t seem to be any clear resolution for any of the characters, which gave the book an unfinished business feel that was far beyond comfortable. While I understand why an author would leave a few unfinished threads as a jump-off point for the next book in a series, this book gave no answers, leaving the reader unsettled.

This book, like the previous one in the series, was good, well written. With a lot of emotion! I like how Allie, although not in a disguise anymore, is still liked better than AJ for her personality. I like how Darwin dumped her! I just kinda think that AJ was a very stuck-up rich pop singer type of girl, and she is. That moment was just enjoyable for me. For a moment, I considered Jess and Charlie to be a good mix, then I thought, "What about Darwin?" and then thoughts about Allie came to my head. I actually am pretty glad that Darwin is back to liking Charlie, and you know what? I think Skye should like Syd, he is more considerate, and actually THINKS, unlike Taz. More girls got eliminated from Alpha Academy, it definitely gave more suspense. Other than that, I think I like this book much more than the previous one as you might tell.

Amazing read !! This is seriously a new amazing series that Lisi is doing. It has the Cliqueness in it but now it has cranked up a ton with this new series. I feel the themes are more prominent in this book and that this series is more in depth than the Clique series. Yet I love both and I love Lisi Harrisons writing.

I just have to say ...Charlie x Darwin <3.

Twinkie book. No redeeming value, but a quick fun snack. Not quite as good as first one, because it lacked the new world building. I am curious how it will proceed.

Movers & Fakers is the second book in the Alpha series by Lisi Harrison. The book picks up right where it left off, Allie J. (really Allie A.) must maintain her secret of her real identity away from her classmates to keep from complete embarrassment even though the head of the school, Shira, already knows all about her dirty little secret. Charlie had to deal with the problem of giving up her childhood sweetheart, Darwin, to her new room mate and best friend Allie J. And Skye is still down because of her dance teacher who refusing to even notice Skye's ability to dance and picks her room mate Triple as the class favorite instead of her.

Movers & Fakers was a great sequel. I extremely enjoyed the description of the island and the imaginative ideas that go into some of Charlie's inventions (like the mood changing nail polish!) along with some of the other girls talents as well. I think it's a great way to show girls how cool it is to have a creative side and area of expertise like that. I also like how it's different from The Clique by being a bit less dramatic and having a modern or future like edge.

All in all, Movers & Fakers was a great read and towards the end I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one to come out! (:

October book review

Title: Movers and Fakers
Author: Lisi Harrison

I really liked this book because it is about friendship and I think that friendship is really important. This book is about 3 girls whose names are Skye Hamilton, Charlie Deery and Allie A. Abbott and they all go to Alpha Academy. Skye is there because she likes to dance but she is having trouble getting over her stress she is also torn between what kind of Alpha she wants to be. Charlie is there because she can practically invent anything, she wants to be friends with Allie even if she ends up hooking her up with her ex-crush. Allie is trying so hard to be the best Alpha she can be she thinks that she is a princess. Yes, I would totally recommend this book to early teens because its about following your heart and doing what you want to do it also has a bit of romance but most importantly friendship.

Lisi Harrison moves middle school drama into a fantasy genre when she creates a new series about Alpha Island. It is a leadership futuristic community. I love the ingenuity of the setting. Both Alpha series and Clique have a good core value system of honoring inner qualities over the superficial stuff that make up most of the chatter in the books. They are not high quality literature by any mean, but there are FAR worse things middle school kids could be reading. Although they are geared for girls, if boys were brave enough to read them it would REALLY help them understand what is going on in a middle school girl's mind ... scary place !!

Entertaining enough to pass a commute, but simple enough that it's easily finished in a day. In other words, I won't be picking up another in the series (as it was, this one happened to be lying around free.) I used to read some of her other books as a teen, but this one didn't even hold much nostalgic appeal. It was flat and forced, the mark of an author going back to what has made money in the past rather than fully fleshing out new characters.

I thought this was a great book. I really enjoyed how well the plot was put together and how it formed throughout the story. I liked the drama in the story, but at times I thought there was a little too much exaggeration. I'm really pumped to read the next one, but I'm hoping to take a break and read The Hunger Games (!)
Is my decision wise??? Hope to hear some feedback! :)

I had no idea that this was the second book until the end. So it may have been really confusing to me but it was amazing. This book started out very boring and slow moving but then ended as a page turner! I loved it!

almost amazing- one thing that i don't get is if Charlie and Darwin were so close, how could they just break up and be over with it?

Okay, so this series actually has a clear point. I'm liking it a LOT better then The Clique right now- cause well, it's just written better and the Clique just seems to drag out.

Movers and Fakers (Updated)
Charlie is allowed to take the PAP (Personal Alpha Plane) out because she received the first paten at Alpha Academy for her prototype for saliva-activated nail polish that changes colors based on the pH levels in a personals mouth. Even tho Shira predicts the “Lick Slicks” line would be a major seller for her company X-Chromosome, she calls it “dumb luck”. She chooses Allie to go with her. She’s freaked out at first, but it quickly turns to amazement as they fly over the island.

They spot Darwin (with his guitar) on a rooftop building. He spots them and stares at Allie and looks through Charlie (which stings). Allie admits she misses him. Every since the night Shira busted everyone in the tunnel, she’s been laying low. Skye returns to class healed and keeps up perfectly with the class. Her solo even receives applause from the other dances. Still, Mimi calls her out and tells her she’s still making it about *her*. It needs to be about the dance, and the spirit, not her ego. She says Triple is the only one who dances with spirit.

Seeing that no matter how hard she tries and no matter how she suppresses her own style she’ll never get Mimi’s approval. So, what’s the use of trying. She silently tells Triple she wins and she can have all this. On to Plan B (boys). It’s been a week and Shira still hasn’t exposed Allie A. So, she’s not saying anything either. Still, she wishes she can just tell her friends but keeps coming up with excuses why she hasn’t. Charlie annouonces she’s got a 6 point plan to get around Shira’s security that will let any girl see a Brazille. Skye quickly texts Taz and Charlie tells Allie A she should text Darwin. She says she will but she wants to see the plan first and then hugs Charlie. She says the first step is being Shira’s spy.

Charlie distracts Shira will idle chatter but she demands a name. She remembers a song her mom use to sing her and tells her Ivy Lambert says her eyes are blood shot because she’s a drunk. Shira then leaves to take a phone call. Charlie sneaks and finds the control panel in Shira’s house and turns off the security cameras. Outside it turns gloomy as Charlie leaves which indicates she either found out about the camera’s or there is no Ivy Lambert.

Taz takes Skye out for a joy ride on his boat. They pass the dance studio and Taz tells her to forget Mimi. Life is too short for anything that’s not fun. Skye sneaks off so Taz won’t see her get sick and below deck she finds Sydney (looking brooding and tragic). He says he comes there to write when he needs to be alone. I thought he could get through Taz’s joyride without him finding out. Skye apologizes and says she knows how it feels to have to write things down. He surprises Skye by complimenting her on her dancing and telling he watched her practice when she hurt her ankle and alone before dinner.

Skye tells him it’s the nicest thing anyone’s told her since she got there. Too bad Mimi doesn’t agree. He says she will soon. Skye says she’s thinking of slacking off and just having fun. He tells her don’t let his brother derail her ambition. He’s never worked hard for anything. Skye notices how differently he reacted to her frustration then his brother. Sydney really listened to her. Not just with his ears but his heart. Shira calls for an assembly and announces that someone will be going home. She tells Sydney she’ll see him around and he says he hopes so. Skye thinks of how Taz and Sud represent the voices in her head. One says to live her life for today. The other says to stay on track because life’s passions are important.

Shira cuts 12 girls (including Ivy Lambert). She then calls Ally to the stage to sing. Then the *real* Ally J comes out. She makes an announcement that this is Allie A and she better figure out what her talent is or she won’t be there long. Darwin storms out. Skye and Charlie leave out together. Allie gets the first of what will be a lot of anonymous jokes about her identity theft. Charlie sees Allie chase after Darwin (knowing it’ll get ugly because Darwin doesn’t like to be lied to). Allie tries to embrace him but he brushes her off and she runs toward the beach. Charlie knows the feeling. She then gets a text from Shira to meet with her. On the way there, Charlie and Darwin end up sitting by each other on the bubble train. Darwin says he doesn’t trust any girl on the island identity theft and spying for his mom. She says she’s not spying for his mom. He says he doesn’t know who to believe anymore. In the house, she waits for Shira in the kitchen.

Since the “Dating Game” style quiz doesn’t make Skye any clearer which is the right boy for her, Skye decides to invite them both to the dance studio after lights out. Shira tells Charlie in secrecy the security cameras are down and asks for her help in fixing them. The system says incorrect sequence and shutting down in 15 minutes (when Charlie tries to fix it). She starts to think she’s better at breaking things than fixing them.

Allie spends the night on the back poarch. Thalia offers her some words of encouragement. People will forget. They’ll move on, and you’ll start over. here is a reason you’re still here. Shira has faith in you. If she didn’t, she would have sent you home. Everything will feel more manageable after you head inside and face the music. When she walks into her room, she finds out Allie J has taken Renee’s place and she’s telling everyone how violated she felt and that’s why she knew she had to come there and set the records straight. Everyone ignores her and goes into the bathroom. Her bed is roped off with scarves and there’s a sign that says CRIME SCENE -IDENTITY THEFT ZONE.

A chalk outline of Allie J and her guitar are raced on the ground at the foot of her bed. Allie receives a message that she has by the end of the semester to pick an area of concentration and included is her new schedule. Ally A hears AJ say she got a text from a boy named Darwin that says he wants to meet. He’s a big fan. She says she meet him the other night and he seemed cool and text back she’ll meet him tonight. Charlie reaches out to an old friend Jesupa to help her with her tech issues. It gets late and she says she’s try some stuff out and Skype him tomorrow. If Darwin can move on so can she.

When AJ shows up at Skye’s party, she takes out her guitar and starts to sing a folk song she’s written for the Jakie O’s dissing Allie A. She then tells the party goers to shout out a word and she’ll turn it into lyrics. Skye yells out “one trick pony”. Skye can’t believe it. Just when she found something she can do, she’s being upstaged again by someone who hasn’t even been there a week. She vows HAD 7 to tear AJ a big ozone sized hole. On the way out, Charlie finds out AJ knows about her spying but says she won’t tell anyone. But she tries to black mail her by threatening her to tell Shira that a girl was smoking of she’ll tell she’s Shira’s spy. So, she also vows to destroy AJ-Alpha Academy is *her* arena.

Allie’s had a rough day in all her classes. She stays in with Triple. Charlie comes in and she sees she’s crying. She tries to cheer her up with a line she heard from the movie “Ugly Truth”. If you haven’t found a happy ending yet its not the end. Charlie just glares at her. Then Skye comes in angry. Charlie tells them how AJ tried to black mail her. Charlie and Skye agree they need to think of a way to get AJ kicked out. Charlie tries to text Shira that she was seen with Darwin but Shira says a lot of girls will be seen with him Get over it and send her another name. Charlie and Skye leave Allie A to have a planning session without her in the bathroom.

AJ comes in with Darwin’s cinnamon tooth pick in her mouth. Charlie figures out how to fix the security system but stall on it so she can keep Skyping Jess. She realizes that what she did isn’t so different than what Allie did to get into Alpha and compared to hurting Darwin and getting her mom fired it wasn’t as bad as what she did. Charlie goes to Allie and asks her why and Allie tells her about what happened with Trina and Fletcher. Then Charlie says she can relate and tells her about what she had to give up in order to get in Alpha. She tells her to keep it between them because if it got out she’d be expelled.

Allie wants to know if Charlie was disappointed that she wasn’t AJ and Charlie tells her no. She liked her for who she is. She says she bets Shira brought her (AJ) there to break her and Darwin up. Charlie says they can’t let Allie J get Darwin. They have to find a way to get him to forgive Ally. Ally asks if she still wants Darwin and Charlie confides she has a new crush.

Skye decides to throw a party on the bubble train. Taz says he’s in. Sydney says she ought to be consentrating on school. She decides Sydney isn’t the one. Skye also realizes she’s done crazy things to impress a boy and forgives Allie. On the train, all the girls play a game that if you catch a Brazille brother you have to kiss him. AJ shows up and looks for Darwin but to her surprise he texts her that he has to find Allie and straighten things out. Allie J demands to be left off and Skye sends her to the caboose and locks her in.

Shira contacts Charlie and she stalls. She tells her she knows she didn’t have it in her and she should kick her out. Charlie tells her she knows how to fix it and to give her 15 minutes. Shira tells her she has 12. Charlie sends out a SOS that they need to all get off the train and head home. She then fixes the 16 cameras. All the screens show all the Alpha girls in their beds. Shira has to give Charlie her props and says yes she’s noticed. The teachers have told her.

Allie tries to apologize to Darwin and ask for a second chance, but Darwin is staring off into space. He then abruptly puts his sweat shirt over her head and tells her to run. The beach is filled with cameras. Allie thinks Charlie must have sold her out but why. All the dancers are worn out from the party and running home, which enfuriates Mimi. She cuts class short, calls Skye out again, and tells them to all get some rest. Syd shows up and Skye calls it off with him. He tells her she’ll regret it because Taz has fem-ADD but she says we’ll see. Shira sends Skye a message to meet with her.

Charlie finds out that Ally was on the beach and not in the train with Skye. She only texted Skye. She tries to apologize to Ally but she’s not hearing it. She vows to tell Darwin about what Charlie did before she gets expelled for Shira catching her camera. On the beach, Charlie runs into Darwin. She finds out that Darwin was going to end things with Allie. She tries to tell him that she’s a better person than Allie J, but he says he’s done with girls he can’t trust. She ends up telling him about Allie A being mad at her because she thought she was trying to get back with him because of how they broke up. Then she ends up telling him Shira made her do it. Darwin gets pissed off and accuses her -well ask her- why she’d let his mom control her. Then he storms back to his house,
Shira tells Skye she’s seen how happy she’s made Sdney and gives her consent to date him. She warns her not to break his heart. She also tells her to stop letting set-backs make her give up. Stay with it. Stay focused. Stay confident. That’s how she got to be the women she is today. She tells her she has confidence in her. During a slide show of inspirational women, Darwin texts AJ and Charlie says that must mean he’s calling it off with her and wants to give Allie another chance. They make up.

In her class, Charlie is working on building a transformation chamber when Darwin texts her and says he can understand now why she did what she did but he’s decided to fight for her (and for them) forever. She texts him back and tells him she can’t wait to show him how she feels. Then Allie texts her and tells her what a great friend she is. She knows that someone is going to wind up hurt. Will it be herself or Allie?

It's harder to tell who came out on top in this one. (Allie A) Although she discovered that while you think you might want to live someone else's life she quickly found out that wanting to be AJ turned out to be about nothing . As AJ was an egotistical, phony, manipulator. Even though the message was you can't just go around stealing people's identities, I understand Allie A's reasons of wanting to start over because of a bad experience with a guy. I think anyone can. And then it's not hard to relate either to struggling with in this world where you belong and where your Alpha lies. Allie A's Alpha shone when she decided to this was an opportunity and not a tragedy to be who she was and have courage to keep trying to make amends with the Jackie O's and Darwin. She really didn't do anything that knocked her "Alpha" down a notch. I would have probably thought the same about Charlie ratting me out. So I guess my Alpha award in this book goes to Allie A.

I was going to give it to (Charlie). Charlie sticks her neck on the line for her friend's by sabotaging the system to give them a chance (especially Allie A) with the Brazille Boys. Which in itself wins her Alpha creed from me. But in the end (and I realize the pull of a past flame) she's way too quick to get back with Darwin considering the two hearts she's about to potentially break in the process. After all she went through to try to get Darwin back with Allie A she dismisses as quickly as it takes for that nail polish she created to change colors.

I can't give the award to (Skye) because Skye seems like a follower. And that in my opinion isn't an Alpha. Alpha's aren't concerned about who they follow. People follow them. She puts off the best guy for her because he tries to bring out the best in her and push her to the person she *needs* to be and remind her why she's there. She throws all these parties just so she can shine at *something* because she's so eager to impress. But then I kind of sympathized with Skye because I know what it's like to try and try and fell like it's all in vain and no matter what you do you just can't win at anything.

I think the Alpha male award should go to Syd for trying to bring something more of Skye than she seems to be blind too. And that's that she should keep working hard despite Mimi's verbal lashing-And then what in the world is up with that woman- I can't really blame Skye for having doubts in herself having to work with someone like that. But I'm guessing by the end of this series Mimi will give her some kind of speech about how she did it because she saw potential in her all along and just wanted to bring it out but she thought she wasn't serious just like in another book I read in the Sweet Valley Twins series called Teacher's Pet.

Enjoyed: how the Allie situation was dealt with, Charlie's plotline, Skye's plotline, the addition of a surveillance system as another obstacle to deal with when rule breaking at the academy
Disliked: this series is now halfway done and only three weeks into the school year?, both Allies are super annoying and I hate reading their plots, I wish Shira did more since her way of running the school seems to entirely rely on Charlie

The only real thing that has so far bugged me about these books is that these girls are on 14. I feel that if the author would have made them 16/17, the relationship between the girls and the Brazil’s boys would be a lot more real and less cringe-worthy. I mean, they’re already thinking of them as “the one.”

I liked this book wayyyy better than the first one. Maybe because the first was an audiobook and the narrating was irritating but I also felt like the characters had more substance in this book and made progress towards conflict resolutions. Ready for the next one!

Another great read from Lisi Harrison! At first, it seemed I would love her Clique series more. As I read on, this series had me hooked and can’t wait to finish it out.

this book is still fun to hate, I have a lot of opinions about what happened behind the scenes of this books publishing but this is the last good book, do with that information what you will.
