REVIEW POST - Book 38 of 2024

Read My Rights by Caz Redpath

Can we get a shout out for all the beautiful British women releasing kick ass debuts this year? Caz Redpath, soak it up!

Elijah has touched my heart. He is such a broken man after the trauma from his childhood and he carries the heaviness around with him every day. Just wanting to be the best man he can be for everyone in his life, all the time.

He's closed off. And because of that and a bad morning at work, he's grumpy as hell when Charlotte comes driving into town and let's just say they do not get off on the right foot.

The way Caz writes this man, and their developing friendship and relationship is beautiful. I'd like to acknowledge here, how lovely it is that she gives HIM the nickname for a change instead of the other way round (although he does have a nickname of his own just for her).

The development of the side characters, with the Weatherston family members has me so excited for their stories.

I honestly could not be more proud of you Caz! Thank you for the ARC and hold your head high!

A heartbreaking and heartwarming read at the same time!!

Elijah Weatherston, a police officer, has faced a terrible tragedy 15 years ago that broke his family apart. It has left him broken, and he has shut himself from forming an emotional connection with anyone other than his family. But when he meets Charlotte, a single mom who enters into his life and town unannounced, he cannot stop himself from falling for her.

Charlotte along with her son, runs away from her abusive husband and moves into Rosehaven in order to have a peaceful life. She isn't ready to let any other man move into her life, and take control over her. What Elijah wants isn't to control her but to protect her!! Can she really say 'no' to an overprotective, handsome and caring police officer?

Both our MCs were wounded by things and people that they had no control over, so it was extremely moving to see them become the balm to one another's soul. Without even knowing, they heal the inner scars of one another, and end up becoming the safe haven that they needed.

Elijah has anxiety and encounters panic attacks from time to time, and I felt like the author represented it realistically! And the way he copes with it by turning to playing the piano was also relatable (coming from someone who starts to blast Taylor Swift and One Direction whenever she senses an anxiety attack coming!!)

Theo, Charlotte's son was such an adorable kid!! Despite growing up in a toxic environment, he's grown up to be a kind-hearted child who hasn't lost his innocence and curious nature. And it melted my heart to see him bond with the Weatherston family members, esp Elijah!

The small town vibes, coupled with the welcoming Weatherston family and the most beautiful slowburn between Elijah and Charlotte, made this an unforgettable read for me. And I'm super excited to read the second book in the series which is gonna be featuring James and Lucy🥺

ARC review - I’m not a big romance reader but god I loved this, the small town and found family tropes got me right in the feelings and I loved every single one of these characters, okay maybe not Adam 🤨 But every time Adam was mentioned I had my heart in my mouth wondering where it will go. I loved Charlotte and Elijah and their nicknames for each other 🥹 The ending was wrapped up perfectly. I am so excited to read more books by this author and see where the series takes us next!

●Read My Rights by Caz Redpath●

I can't believe I've never read a police officer romance before, any recommendations are welcome because I highly enjoyed this debut novel!

The story begins right away with an intense home invasion, and MMC Elijah seeing his father murdered. After, we quickly learn that he became a police officer to protect his mother and siblings, Lucas and Alice, as well as to make up for the failure of catching his dad's killer. Elijah is deeply traumatised and not a very happy person, all he cares about is making up for the guilt he feels. That is, until he meets Charlotte.

Charlotte, Lottie or Charlie depending on who's talking to her, is on the run with her three year old son after escaping a toxic and abusive relationship. She moves to small, cosy town Rosehaven, which sounds so lovely. Her first impression of the town is ruined by 'Officer Sunshine' (Elijah) since he's taking his frustration out by pulling her over. They don't start great, but their grumpy and sunshine, forced proximity romance soon blossoms into deeper feelings with fade to black spice included.

The romance definitely is more meaningful and slow burn than I expected, we did get the first kiss until 80 percent in. From that point things between them did feel a little rushed. The pacing of the story does feel a little slow at times due to the repetition of scenes written from both POVs, whilst it helped readers understand each characters yearning, I did feel like it slowed the story down.

Leading on from that, I also felt like the ending was a bit quick. I did predict what was going to happen, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked that both characters got a chance to heal and lean on each other, and the epilogue was super adorable and happy, set six months later. It was super cliché, but overall a feel good read that's simple yet sweet.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

Title: Read My Rights
Author: Caz Redpath
Genre: Romance
Format: ebook
Publication: 14th June 2024

✨ 5/5

I’m not crying, you are.
Prepare yourself for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Elijah and Charlotte’s love story just became one of my favourites.
The grumpy closed off police officer believing he’s not worthy of happiness and love meets the vulnerable woman he didn’t know he needed but she has a past of her own which threatens their happiness.

The way the author builds the characters throughout the story sucks you in - you feel what they feel - the good and the bad. Grandpa’s letter had me ugly crying but gave the story such a genuine feel - this isn’t a love story of all happiness and positives it gives the reader a feeling of true life with super high, highs and low, lows.

Well worth reading to the end as following all of the heart break and trauma we are rewarded with the happy ending we so desperately want for Elijah and Charlotte. I couldn’t put this book down - completed in about 3 hours I just had to get to the happily ever after.

Beautifully written and emotive I am so looking forward to the next standalone in the Rosehaven series.

Thank you to the author @cazredpath for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. If this is the debut I think we can expect great things in the future!

Wonderfully Written

I believe this book will resonate with a wide audience. Many readers will be drawn to this debut novel, earning it a well-deserved five-star rating. The author has done an excellent job crafting a closed-door romance with a reminiscent feel of a Lifetime or Hallmark movie. The story follows an abused woman who relocates to a small town, where she meets a compassionate cop, finds a new family, and ultimately falls in love, leading to a happily ever after. With next-to-none profanity, minimal violence, and an overall clean and heartwarming vibe, this romance is sure to captivate a large audience.

Firstly I want to say thank you to Caz Redpath for allowing me to read an arc copy of Read My Rights in exchange for my honest review

From the very first chapter I knew I was really going to enjoy this book, I was emotionally invested from the very start

This book does touch on some heavy subjects so I would recommend checking warnings before reading, however, I felt like these topics were handled very well and weren’t taken lightly in anyway

All of the main characters were so enjoyable to read about and I loved reading their journeys, I loved the friendship between Charlotte and Alice from the second they met and the development of Charlotte and Elijah’s relationship was great, their relationship was everything both of them needed after all they had been through

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what Caz writes next

Now it’s no secret that found family is one of my favourite tropes and this book was just *chefs kiss*

The brave FMC, Charlotte, who I was rooting for the entire time. Adorable Theo who was just a beacon of light throughout and of course the one and only Elijah, the complex MMC who is just so loveable but hurting so much at the same time. I loved the realistic natural progression of Charlotte and Elijah’s friendship to relationship too.

I would also love a bestie like Alice! ❤️

Rosehaven has my heart and if it were a place then I’d definitely be visiting so I could attend the gala ❤️

This book does include the topic of DV throughout as well as grief and abandonment but for such heavy topics it is written so well.

I couldn’t put this book down and I was sad to have finished it, I already want more!

Thank you to Caz Redpath for sending me this ARC I have thoroughly enjoyed your debut novel and can’t wait to see what comes next!

I had the absolute pleasure of being an ARC Reader & Street Team member for Read My Rights and what can I say other than I absolutely loved this book.

I ate this story up from the first page to the last, and it tackled some really hard hitting issues that are so relevant to me like grief, guilt and anxiety but it tackled them beautifully.

I instantly fell in love the characters, and it contains my favourite trope - Grumpy x Sunshine 😍😍 I found this book a great read that was really easy to follow along, and I feel like it has the makings for a series for sure! (I need a book for Alice and I need a book for Lucas thank you 👀😂).

All the stars from me - I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy when the book is fully released on the 14th June! Make sure you grab your physical copy or your kindle edition when it’s out!

3.5⭐️

Being her debut book, it was fantastic! The storyline was brilliant and was a quick read. I can't wait to read more from Caz in the future and see her grow as an author.

The only reason I didn't give it 4 ⭐️ was I felt too many tropes were trying to get crammed in the short space of time.

However, overall, I loved how the characters worked together and the growth of both MCs was beautiful. Theo was definitely the star of the book! I'm hoping Lucas gets his own story as he was such a fun character.

I was so pumped to get the ARC for this debut novel by Caz Redpath. The tropes and the blurb had me hooked! Cop MMC? ✅ Single Mom? ✅ Grumpy/sunshine? ✅ Small Town? ✅

Elijah is our grumpy cop who has years of repressed trauma that dude definitely needs therapy for. Charlotte is running away from a bad relationship with her young son in tow. Their meet cute isn’t so cute when Elijah takes his craptastic day out on her and she dubs him Officer Sunshine to irritate him. She ends up running into both his brother and sister as she’s settling into town and makes friends, unaware they’re related to the grumpy cop.

I really liked the pace of the friendship and how the relationship unfolds between Elijah and Charlotte. He dotes on his family, especially his niece. Soon enough, Charlotte and her son Theo become everything. He’s closed off and feels undeserving of love and happiness. But he struggles so much with coming to terms with his trauma and why Charlotte means so much to him.

This was such a great story and amazing to see in a debut! The side characters were rich and full of personality. I can’t wait to see what Caz has in store next. You won’t want to miss this one!

Officer Elijah Weatherston is desperate to control every aspect of his life as he grapples with the traumatic memories of his father’s murder. One day, shortly after he fails to make an arrest, he pulls a car over. Charlotte Miller and her son Theo are on their way to a fresh start, but when Elijah pulls her over for a broken taillight, their first meeting is heated, and she hopes not to run into him again. Little does she know…

TW: grief/loss, some violence (physical and domestic), anxiety and PTSD

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝘇 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗔𝗥𝗖!
Elijah is a great MMC. He battles trauma and demons, yet he never falls short of wanting the best for people he cares about. For that, I admired him. My heart went out to him because I also struggle with anxiety, and through Elijah, we get a clear sense of what it’s like to go through life despite mental health struggles.
Charlotte is also a remarkable person throughout. It takes a lot of courage to act when one is going through the situation she is, and while she has moments where she thinks she’s not strong enough, she’s actually stronger than she realizes.
Theo was a cutie, and I loved seeing him adapt to his new surroundings. I loved his bond with Elijah. The whole book was strong in the found family trope, and it really warmed my heart to see. The Weatherstons are a great team, and I’m looking forward to the next book. I miss them already.

‘We all cope in our own ways; it’s why I like reading so much. If reality gets too hard, I can just throw myself into someone else’s story. I can be anyone else I want to be’

I absolutely love small town romance and really enjoyed Elijah & Charlotte’s story, and the portrayal of domestic violence and anxiety was very well done in my opinion.

I laughed, cried a bit (rare!) and was completely engrossed in this book. A brilliant wee read!

ARC REVIEW!

Maybe some little spoilers 😝

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 Stars!!

What a brilliant debut novel from the amazing @authorcazredpath another amazing British author coming into the mix.

This book is the story of Elijah and Charlotte.
Elijah has been closed off to love and happiness since an event in his childhood, he does not think he deserves happiness. Charlotte comes into town after something happens in her life and somehow their lives just begin to intertwine.

They become closer and a beautiful love story emerges...(Not without a few bumps and surprises along the way)

I love all the characters in the book and how they are written and portrayed and how the feelings in the book are written, Caz has done a fabulous job of pulling you into the story and making you feel like you are a part of the story and feeling what the characters feel.

An amazing story and a beautiful start to an amazing author's writing journey. Thank you so much for the arc read and I cannot wait to see your writing journey continue and watch all the amazing things people say about this book ❤️

Oh how I enjoyed this book so much! I received “Read My Rights” as an ARC and after reading the tropes I was pretty interested. This book was my first small town trope read and it made my heart melt. I fell in love with both MCs as we got to know more and more about them. I found this book incredibly hard to put down as I could describe as a “feel good plot” that just gave you everything you’re looking for in a romance book. Caz killed it with the development of the characters in this book giving us more than just a surface look into them. The beginning, middle and end I loved it all. My heart was pounding it through it all with excitement, anxiety and adoration. All I could say is I wish I had more. This book blew me away so thank you so much Caz for giving me a chance to read your work.

Was lucky to get this ARC so thank you to the author

This book was fun, in the sense of the main characters were all lovable, like the family you haven't met yet. Except Adam obviously!

Love it when a FMC finds her voice and inner strength to stand up and be herself after enduring a bad relationship. I feel like i could be Charlie.

It was nice to follow the story from the different perspectives. It definitely leaves you wanting more and to spend more time with the Weatherstons

Can we have more please.

This was such a beautifully written and heartwarming read from beginning to end.

Right from the start, I was so invested and instantly connected with the storyline, and from there, I knew it was going to be such an enjoyable read.

The storyline has some heavy topics. However, the author covered them perfectly and in a very sensitive way.

The characters' development was detailed and heartfelt. You could really feel the connection between them, from the blossoming friendship between Charlotte and Alice to the love story of Elijahs and Charlotte

Highly recommended read, I'm looking forward to reading more from Caz Redpath.

The best way to describe Read My Rights is to imagine a Hallmark movie as a book, but with cop-show elements.

Caz pulls at your heartstrings right out the gate! Chapter 3 had me ugly crying, which gave me a headache and I had to put the book down for the day - this is a good thing, I rarely get that emotional, but the Grandpa’s letter hit very close to home. And I discovered that was true for a lot of the story.

Caz explores more than just anxiety, it’s an exploration of grief management (or lack thereof), how traumatising and crippling not just anxiety can be, but also being hyper-vigilant at all times wears you down. It might sound like it was a depressing story - it’s not.

It’s full of hope, joy and laughter, while acknowledging that sometimes bad things happen to good people, but when you reach out and connect with others, they might just reach back and help you.

This has all the elements of a good romance, and after all the crying and heartbreak, I was indeed rewarded with a lovely happy ever after.

Caz is planning for this to be a series of standalone stories set in Rosehaven (the small town), and you bet I’ll be continuing reading this series. I’ll be interested to follow Caz, because if this is her starting point as an author, I can only imagine how great her stories will be once she has even more experience!

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
𝓡𝓮𝓪𝓭 𝓜𝔂 𝓡𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Caz Redpath
𝑻.𝑾: Grief and Loss, Domestic Violence, Anxiety, Murder

💭Grumpy cop meets runaway single mom in this small-town romance, and let me tell you, sparks fly—and not always the good kind. Elijah, aka Officer Sunshine (lovingly nicknamed by Charlotte), is carrying enough repressed trauma to fill a therapy group, while Charlotte is on the run from a toxic relationship with her little boy, Theo, in tow. Their “meet cute”? Not cute at all—it’s more like meet grumpy when Elijah decides to unload his bad day on Charlotte. Cue tension, sass, and a whole lot of unresolved emotions.

Elijah Weatherston is your classic brooding hero with layers of pain he refuses to unpack. He is desperate to control every aspect of his life as he grapples with the traumatic memories of his father’s murder. I mean, someone gets this guy a therapist, stat. Despite his moodiness, you can’t help but root for him, especially as the story unfolds and you see why he’s built up all those walls. He is a great MMC. He battles trauma and demons, yet he never falls short of wanting the best for the people he cares about. For that, I admired him. Through Elijah, we get a clear sense of what it’s like to go through life despite mental health struggles.
Charlotte Miller, on the other hand, is resilient, sharp-tongued, and just trying to create a safe life for her son. She’s the kind of FMC you want to root for—strong but flawed, with a big heart. And Theo? An absolute scene-stealer. (Kid characters done right always get bonus points.)

The side characters add a surprising twist of coziness. Charlotte unknowingly befriends Elijah’s siblings while settling into her new town, and it’s such a fun dynamic when the dots start connecting. His brother and sister bring humor and warmth to the story, balancing out Elijah’s doom-and-gloom vibe. The small-town setting is also super charming, with all the nosy neighbors and “everyone knows everyone” vibes you’d expect.

I enjoyed how the author provided the timeframes of 15 years prior, present day, and 6 months later because it helped to show how the characters grew and changed throughout the book.

Caz explores more than just anxiety; it’s an exploration of grief management (or lack thereof), how traumatising and crippling not just anxiety can be but also being hyper-vigilant at all times wears you down. It might sound like it was a depressing story - but it’s not.
It’s full of hope, joy and laughter while acknowledging that sometimes bad things happen to good people, but when you reach out and connect with others, they might just reach back and help you.

This debut was so endearing and I cannot wait to read what’s next. All the characters were so fun and I want to dive right into their stories. I’m so excited for Elijah’s brother’s turn to shine.

𝐏.𝐒 Rosehaven has my heart, and if it were a place, then I’d be visiting so I could attend the gala!

Fun, flirty and an easy read romance hard to believe it a debut author, cannot wait to read more from Caz Redpath.

🔸 𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝑸𝒖𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔:

“Do you remember what I told you when we got married?” His voice was weak and his words came out slowly. “I told you I hoped I went before you,” he coughed, interrupting his sentence, “because I couldn’t live a day without you, Lucy.” My mother’s sobs increased in volume.
“Not yet, please.”

"I am happy to be dying, for in death I get to be with your grandma again. There is not a moment that goes by that my body doesn’t ache to be near her. The world hasn’t felt right since she left me."

"You are special and I do not want you to settle for any less than you deserve.
Someday someone will love you like I loved Lily; they will do anything to make you happy. You will mean the absolute world to them and they will live for your smile. They will fight for your smile.
One day, one of you will die, and it will be earth-shattering, but it will be okay. It will be okay because you loved them and they loved you. You lived every day together feeling loved and seen. How lucky you will be to have been loved and to be able to love. It will be okay because you make the most of every moment together.
Promise me you won’t settle for anything less. Life is too short to not be loved in the way you deserve."

"He would have been a man I would have called handsome had he not just called me stupid."

"Hell would freeze over before I let him pursue her."

“I’m surprised you go by Lottie; you seem more like a Charlie to me.” He shrugged.
My heart felt like it stopped at his words. Charlie. I hadn’t been called that since my grandpa died. No matter how old I got, I was always his little Charlie.
It was a nickname that I held dear to my heart. If anyone else tried to call me it when I was younger, it annoyed me. It was a special nickname not to be used by just anyone. I hadn’t even let my own parents use it. Although as I heard it now, there was something that felt right about it. It felt comforting to hear him call me that. The nickname felt safe to be spoken by his lips."

"Sometimes it was those with the brightest smiles who were hurting the most."

"The stony expression officer wasn’t him; at least not all of him. I knew that now and I wished he could remember that, too. That he could remember there was still joy to be had. Just because something awful had happened, didn’t mean he couldn’t keep on living. That he couldn’t enjoy the life he still had. You shouldn’t let the world spoil who you really are."

"You say that like you have a choice as to whether I protect you or not. Spoiler alert, you don’t.”

"I always found myself trying to meet her gaze. There could be hundreds of people in a room and I would always look for her. Look for her eyes, those eyes that made me feel safe."

"Grief always lingered, it never seemed to completely fade. In some ways it was nice because you carried that person with you wherever you went, but it was hard because you are never able to make new memories without this bittersweetness.
You were left clinging onto everything you knew about them, hoping as you got older you didn’t forget anything. That you wouldn’t forget the way they smiled or laughed. That you wouldn’t forget how they looked when they were excited about something. You even wished not to forget the bad stuff, the way they looked when they were sad or angry. All of those emotions were who they were. They were part of your experience with them."

"Charlie was making me want to rewrite every single one of my rules and it was driving me insane."

"People had such an incredible ability to mask the darkness they felt on the inside, it almost made me feel uneasy. I guess I did it, too. I had spoken briefly with Alice about Adam, but never delved into the details. You can get pretty good at masking the pain when you have to do it often."

“You’re safe now,” I said softly. You’re safe now with me. That was what I wanted to say. I wanted to tell her that I would do everything I could to keep her safe. I wouldn’t let anyone hurt her again. She turned her head up to look at me, a teary smile on her face. I knew in that moment there was nothing I wouldn’t do for her. She pulled away and I felt empty without her in my arms."

“Did you know they say you die twice?” Her voice was soft. “Once when your body dies and the second time the final time someone says your name or talks about you? I haven’t known you guys long, but I love the way you all talk about him.” My eyes focused on her smile. “I bet he would have been proud of the people all of you are.”

"It was so bizarre to grieve someone who was sitting right beside you. To grieve the person they used to be and who you wish they still were."

"Charlie deserved better than just being a one-night stand. She deserved someone who would stop at nothing to make her happy. I knew she deserved better than me, even though the thought of someone else having her was like a knife in my chest."

"I didn’t know how to explain my feelings further. I didn’t feel good enough for Charlie, but at the same time, the thought of anyone else having her made my blood boil. I felt protective over her. Possessive, almost. I knew deep in my heart that I wanted her to be mine. Maybe I needed to figure out a way to make myself good enough for her, to be the man she deserved."

“You are such a softie,” Lucas teased as he eyed up the roses. “If you buy Lottie flowers when she’s your fake girlfriend, I wonder what you’d get her if she was your real one?”
Everything. I’d get her everything she wanted."

"I wanted a life with Charlie more than I ever had wanted anything before."

“You know I come as a package deal, right?” My eyes wandered to Theo.
I was nervous for Elijah’s response. I know we had feelings for each other, but I couldn’t blame him if he didn’t want to take on a kid.
He could get any girl he wanted to; he didn’t need to settle for one with baggage.
“I do.” He nodded, his gaze following mine to Theo. “I feel like I’ve won the lottery with this package.” I blushed at his words."

“Careful, you’ll be stuck with us before you know it,” I teased.
“I hope I’m stuck with the two of you forever,” he said, planting a kiss on my forehead."

"I found him Grandpa. I thought to myself as Elijah kissed my neck. I found the person who treats me like you treated Grandma. Thank you for reminding me not to settle for less."

“You showed me a letter not long after we first met that your grandpa wrote,” I began. I was nervous at all the people listening and looking at me, but I kept my breath steady. I kept my focus on her. “He asked you not to settle for any less than you deserve, to be with someone who would fight to make you happy, to make you smile.” I let out a breath before continuing.
“Charlie, I promise you that I will spend every single day of my life giving you everything you deserve. I will fight to keep that smile on your face. You and Theo are my world.” I turned to look at Theo standing next to Lucas. “You know as well as I do that life is short, but I plan on making the most of every single minute life gives me with you. I love you, Charlie, and I always will.”

Oh my god this book was incredible. I would never have known this was a debut novel if I wasn’t told. I loved the angst and the fake dating, and the depth to the story. As well as the anxiety representation. It was incredible. 100% recommend.

Caz has 100% become a must read author for me and I cannot wait to read more of her books in the future!!

Title: Read My Rights
Author: Caz Redpath
MCs: Elijah and Charlotte
Format: Kindle Unlimited
Review: This was a very cute and sweet, small-town romance! This book follows Elijah, a police officer in the town of Rosehaven. When he was 15 years old, he lost his dad during a break in and vowed to protect the city and people he loved after this accident. One morning, he makes a mistake at work that puts him in quite a grumpy mood, causing him to pull over Charlotte – also knows as Lottie or Charlie depending on who you talk to – and take his anger out on her. Charlotte and her son Theo have just moved into the little town of Rosehaven and are creating a fresh new start after leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend when she meets the grumpy officer. While it wasn’t the greatest introduction to the new town, she is determined to make her new home work for her and her son.
I thought this story was very cute. It was well written for a debut novel (only a few grammatical errors that were easy to look passed), and I enjoyed each of the characters she introduced in this book that make me excited to eventually get their books as well. Both our MCs also expressed their traumas and learned to heal with each other’s help. I loved seeing both of their vulnerabilities come into light and show that we all go through difficult times but can move past them with the help of our loved ones.
The romance in this book starts off a little on the slower side and I would classify as a slow burn for about 75% of the novel. Once we passed the first kiss, there were fade-to-black scenes for the rest of the book. At times the book felt a little choppy due to the change in POVs bringing us back in time a bit to get the other perspective. I felt this made the story not flow as well and while it did help readers understand both perspectives better, it slowed the story down just a bit.
Overall, this was a simple and cute small-town romance with a HEA that I enjoyed. I definitely felt the emotions when reading this book and I loved the storyline. It really reminded me of the Safe Haven movie and if you liked that one then I think you will enjoy this book too! I am excited to read the second book in the series and read more of Caz Redpath’s books!

I'm very pleased to say that this is the first book in a new series to me - The Rosehaven Series - and I'm super excited to have discovered that there are more books to come from this.

I'm going to start with my tiny negative - usually I would have been much more bothered by the fact that some of the plot details were a little unbelievable - I'm not sure after her last relationship, that Charlie would have moved on quite so quickly - but I was so in love with the whole story and characters that I totally let that slide this time!

I absolutely fell in love with Eli and his whole family. After the trauma he suffered as a youth, it's no wonder he has his own baggage. I was instantly drawn to him - even when grumpy!
But the whole family were just so close, supportive and gorgeous - definitely the best kind of people to meet when you come to a new town.

Charlie and her situation was also complicated and really, I totally knew where this whole storyline was heading, but I didn't care!
From the second Eli pulls her over at the start of the book, I knew, but every step of the journey had me totally immersed!

The writing style was super easy to read and I loved following the story from both Eli and Charlie's pov. This helped us connect with the characters and get to know them inside and out.

The development of the relationship - both Charlie and Theo with the family as a whole but especially the romantic build up was well written and I was there for it all!

I tried so hard to stay within the Read-Along days with this one - but could easily have devoured it in one go - I can't wait to see who is going to feature in book 2 and to be back in Rosehaven soon! Loved it!

Thanks so much to Caz for the eARC of your DEBUT novel!!! Read My Rights is out Friday, June 14!! If you want a quick, low-angst read, definitely give it a read!

4.25 ⭐️

Tropes:
👮🏻‍♂️ single mom
☕️ small town
👮🏻‍♂️ found family
☕️ grumpy x sunshine
👮🏻‍♂️ forced proximity
☕️ protective mmc
👮🏻‍♂️ mental health rep
☕️ fake dating

After leaving in the night with her son in tow, Charlotte is looking for a fresh start in Rosehaven. Elijah has been running from his own demons since he witnessed the death of his father. When the two meet for the first time, well, it doesn't go the best. Despite their differences, there is a kindredness between the two of them. Can they overlook their differences and accept the love that is coming their way.

I LOVE the found family trope, especially when a family takes in an MC into and becomes their family. And this book is one of the top found families that I have read! I love how Charlotte organically met Alice and Lucas, without Elijah's knowledge, and how she was just immediately pulled into the flow. This was such an amazing debut novel! The book was super fast-paced and really got me in all the feels. Despite the heartbreak and situation that Charlotte was in throughout the book, I love how Elijah immediately got protective over her and Theo, all while Charlotte would not let him tear her down and did not take any of his crap. The banter between those two was top tier. I know that this is just the start of the universe, and I am so excited to learn more about the side characters while they get their HEAs!!

✨️Book Review✨️

Read My Rights - Caz Redpath(253📖) (8th July - 10th July) 4⭐️ 1🌶

Read My Rights by Caz Redpath is about Elijah, a police officer in the little town of Rosehaven who is traumatised by the death (murder) of his father which happened right in front of him at 15 years old. 15 years later, and he still can't let go of the guilt he feels for that night. Charlotte is a single mother of little 4 year old Theo, and is fleeing her abusive ex boyfriend. Her search for a peaceful place to escape to and a start to a new life brings them to Rosehaven. When Charlotte is pulled over by Elijah just coming into town, they don't get off to the best start. But can they start again and have a second chance of a first impression?

Oh my, this book certainly sent me on a roller coaster. I was happy, sad, angry, smiling, laughing and crying. It was spectacular! I love the character developments, especially Elijah and Charlotte for how they both overcame their trauma, but did it together. Elijah wouldn't have had the strength to forgive himself and Charlotte would never have stood up to Adam. The side characters make this book so much more too, it wouldn't have been the same without Lucy, Alice, Lucas and of course, Daines. Lucas has got to be my favourite side character though. The way he just casually mentioned of knowing Elijah but not the entire truth I thought was brilliant. I was in stitches! Definitely cannot wait to get the ARC for Till Death Parts Us now, so excited to continue the series.

If you haven't read Read My Rights yet, you absolutely should. It's short, so difficult to put down and will get you in all the feels. Available on KU.

Charlotte ala Lottie has finally found the courage to leave her narcissistic, abusive boyfriend. There is no way he's ever going to her their son. They are on their way to make a fresh start on Rosehaven but before they even get these Lottie has a disastrous encounter with a local cop.

Elijah was having a bad day when he pulled Lottie over, he'd never usually treat anyone that badly but he's the kind of man who takes failure to heart and he just descended to petty! When it is revealed that Lottie has quickly made friends with both his brother and sister and secured a job in his favourite coffee shop, Elijah soon realises that there is no getting away from this beautiful woman, or her adorable son.

Elijah has the shell of tough perfection but it hides a core of trauma he's never really dealt with properly. He has a drive to protect everyone and takes responsibility for both the town and his family. Charlotte is a strong woman to upend her life and run with Theo, to keep them both safe. But the strength she finds in her new found family and friends strengthens her resolve.

Sadly Theo's sleaze of a father hasn't given up on finding them yet and there is a layer of danger throughout the book. The attraction between Charlotte and Elijah is beautiful o watch evolve and they really bring out the best in each other, whilst allowing them to be their flawed, imperfect selves. It is so refreshing that it's Elijah who ends up with the cutesy nickname rather than Charlotte.

I'm so excited to see what is in store for the Weatherston siblings (I've a suspicion that even Mama Weatherston may get a HEA!)
