Is a message in a bottle the key to changing lives?
When Niki stubs her toe on a wine bottle at the beach, she doesn’t expect her life to change. The bottle is stuffed with a mini survival kit and a heartfelt note she’s powerless to ignore. For a lark, Nate threw the bottle overboard while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. During his Army Ranger career, Nate didn’t date much, since he’d witnessed so many failed relationships, but now he’d like a girlfriend. Niki has vowed never to get serious about a man who doesn’t share her desire for a family, but Nate’s adventurous attitude toward trying new experiences mirrors her own. When they discuss the all-important family issue, Nate shuts her down. Can two people who seem perfect for one another find a solution to the all-or-nothing issue of children?
Beach Therapy is a slow slow slow-burn sweet romance with small-town vibes. Niki and Nate’s relationship is authentic and true to real-world dating. There’s no big twist or big emotions involved, just two people getting to know one another and navigating the obstacles that come their way. There is no miscommunication troupe, but Niki does tend to run away from conversations, dragging out their little conflicts and turning them into a bigger deal.
This is a big book for a romance, so be prepared to settle in. You will get every single character's thought and their day-to-day interactions. Everything is on the page, with family drama, a peek into friends' lives, and anything else that happens in a day.
Nickerson did her homework on what it’s like to be a pilot and physical therapist, and that shines through in her character’s thoughts and actions, and in the pacing of the book. While I did eventually find Niki annoying by the end of the book, the characters were fully formed in my mind.
I wrote this book, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
When we were teens, my sister found a bunch of bottles on the beach, all stuffed with various items you might need if you were stuck on a deserted island. I always wondered what might happen if she'd called the guy who'd included his phone number in each sealed bottle. Beach Therapy is my 'what if.'
The message in the bottle brings Niki and Nate together, but Nate oversteps by visiting Niki's physical therapy clinic for his bum knee before their slated first meeting. She is not amused. Nate makes a few more missteps, but the larger issues come later, when Niki learns that his Army Ranger career included more than flying choppers.
A sweet love story about two people who must learn to accept others as they are, not as an unobtainable ideal, Beach Therapy is the perfect beach read.
Wow. Great story. Going thru your parents divorce affected her, made her to lose trust. When situations arose and was open to talk out her issues she began to see clearly. The fun things that was dating and completed made me live thru them too. Even the tour of the beaches in a hero. Great story. If they had God in their resource list, smoother transitions could have been achieved. A great HEA
