The Undead have been blooded in combat. Now it’s time to prove their value.
The huge cost and effort to reanimate them must be worth it. With no rights of their own, their very existence depends upon their return on investment.
But as the Undead are finding their footing and discovering how to best fight the war with the Tucanan invaders, the aliens are not standing still. They are experimenting with their evolutionary past to create new ways to fight humanity’s military forces.
It’s become an arms race. Which species can stay ahead of the other? Which one can gain the advantage?
For every new innovation, there is a counter, and when the Undead’s secret base on Opal-3 is attacked by the Tucanans, is that just a coincidence? Or is it an effort to wipe out the Undead Marines before they can establish themselves?
With pressure from the bean counters to prove their value on one side and the Tucanans’ invasion on the other, the Marines could be snuffed out before they ever really establish themselves as the premier fighting force of humanity.
The Immortals continue to be used in ways that they are very suited for, as long as you make the cold-blooded choice to send them into combat with a high likelihood of being killed in the process. Despite their growing dislike for their unit not only hiding but their being forced into the humiliation of being listed as non-combat capable support units instead of the highly skilled operators that they are. They continue to serve out of their loyalty to their oaths.
Once you are dead, what is there left to do? Live life large!!! If you can. Unless you're at war and the government has you up against the wall. I am enjoying this series of books. I am looking forward to the next book. I have some feelings and guesses about what could happen in the next few stories. This author really does excite me with his writing!!!
What a fascinating concept! Brilliantly crafted in both storytelling and character development; strong connections are extant. Still Undead... And so very full of life! 5-Stars!
Chaney is great. I follow them and love reading their work. So fascinating and love the military drama and the science fiction. Even the slight references to flashbacks and PTSD. Chaney definitely knows.
Absolutely brilliant military sci-fi action. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. Human , alien, the enemy is the enemy. I look forward to the next one.
The constant subtexts at the end of each chapter are truly irritating. The story is decent, the characters interesting but the decision to treat the reades as complete idiots is irritating and I'm not sure that the series is worth completi
This has been an interesting read. The characters aren't groundbreaking or overly heroic, just everyday people surviving. Its exciting to follow a "a day in the life of a zombie marine grunt".
