There are many things people should know about Nelson Mandela. There are two specific thing. One of these things is his birth. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. Another thing is that he became president of South Africa. "Nelson is a black man who became the president of South Africa after many years of struggle"(Smailes 6). For these two reasons there are many things people should know about Nelson Mandela.
There are two things people should understand about Nelson Mandela. These things are royalty and warrior. Nelson Mandela comes from a royal family. His dad died and he was sent to live with a king of a tribe called Xhosa. Mandela is also a warrior. Mandela learned to fight when he was young to gain what he wanted. "He learned that sometimes he had to fight with his fists but also sometimes he had to fight by using his brain" (Smailes 7). For these two reasons there are many things people should understand about Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela accomplished many goals in his life. There are two specific things. One of these things is black freedom in South Africa. All black people gained equal rights. Another goal is becoming president of South Africa. "Mandela was finally released on February 11, 1990" (Smailes 29). For these two reasons Nelson Mandela accomplished many goals.
There are two very important facts people should know about Nelson Mandela. One of these facts is that Nelson was not his real name. Nelson Mandela's real name was Rolihlahla. "This name means trouble maker" (Smailes 8). Another important fact about Nelson is that he went to prison. Nelson Mandela went to prison for 21 years because of his rebellion against the government. For these reasons there are two important facts people should know about Nelson Mandela.

There are two things that where very important to Nelson Mandela. One Of these things is education. "When he was 21 he went to university at Fort Hare"(Smailes 8). This university was excellent. Another thing that was very important to Nelson was an exciting life. Nelson came back to Cape Town and to get married and settle down, but Nelson preferred to live his life and see other things. These two things are what Nelson Mandel liked most.
The University Nelson went to had 2 problems. One Problem was the food. "Black students would often travel to other universities to play different sports" (Smailes 8). They saw how white student food was compared to there's. Another problem was the racism. White students had better rooms, better toilets, and better fountains. Nelson's university's problems where these two.
Apartheid was a big part of South Africa. The ANC and Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid. "Nelson and the other leaders where against the use of violence" (Smailes 13). Instead of violence they used mass action. Black people had only 13% of the country. They could not use white ambulances, beaches, swimming pools, cinemas, graveyards, parks, toilets, and many other things. For these two reasons Apartheid was a big part of South Africa.
While Nelson was in prison two things happened. One thing is that the president was changed.The new president was Pieter Botha. Another thing that president Botha released Mandela's friends. He said that if he wants to go out of prison Mandela has to ask the ANC to stop fighting. "...Unless he agreed to tell the ANC to stop fighting" (Smailes 26). Nelson said no to stoping the fight. For these two reasons two things happened while Mandela was in prison.

Their specific things people should know about Anne Frank. One thing people should know is that Anne was born on June 12, 1929. "...On June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany" (Smailes 6). Another thing people should know about Anne is that she was born in a jewish family. Therefore, she was in Adolph Hitler's time. For these specific reasons there are two things people should know about Anne Frank.
Anne Frank had a jewish family. She had her two parents and one big sister. "Her father was called Otto, her mother Edith, and her older sister called Margot" (Smailes 6-7). When Anne was 4 the great Hitler came to power. Anne's father thought it was not safe in Germany for jewish people. This is two of the reasons that show that Anne Frank had a jewish family.
Hitler hated Jewish people. Hitler passed many laws against jews. "...He even forced them to wear a yellow star of David, so everyone knew they where Jews" (Smailes 9). Jews where obliged to do shopping from 3-5 PM. Jews where not even allowed to have their own bike or anything to ride in. Therefore, Hitler hated Jews as stated.
The Franks had to hide from Hitler and his army. However, Anne's new home was comfortable. "It had running water ,bedrooms, a bathroom, and a radio" (Smailes 12). The Franks lived in constant fear. They where always worried that Hitler and his army would find them. The families had to talk in whispers and creeping about. For these two reasons the Franks had to hide from Hitler and his army.

Anne Frank had a number of hobbies. One of her hobbies was learning about Greek and Roman gods."She learned to read and was a very keen student"(Smailes 19). Another hobby of hers was researching family trees. She used newspapers and books to make the family trees. For these two reasons her hobbies where the following.
Anne lived in secret but it was often hard. The families mostly bickered and argued with each other. "Anne found it very hard to get along with her mother" (Smailes 16). The secret place was not very big. The people had very limited space. For these stated reasons Anne had a difficult life in the secret place.
Many people helped the Jewish families. Some Dutch people helped the Jewish. "...smuggle essential items like to the Annexe" (Smailes 16). ... The dutch names were Miep Gies, Johanes Kleiman, and many others. They brought news from Amsterdam. For those reasons many people helped the Jewish families.
Anne was aware of the fate of the Jews caught by the Germans.Many of Annes friends have been captured. "They where forced to the back of trucks and sent to deportation camp..." (Smailes 14). Jews where gathered and taken to places such as prisons.Anne heard about the Jews in the radio that have been killed. As said Anne was aware of the fate of the Jews by Germans.

Gandhi is a very known person. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. "His birthplace was a small seaside town called Porbandar" (Smailes 6). Gandhi is from an important family who wanted him to find himself a good job. After finding a job he would be obliged to get married with an arranged marriage from the parents. Gandhi was married to a girl his age at the age of 13. The girls name was Kasturbia. For these two reasons Gandhi is a very known person.
Many things happened in Gandhi's life. In 1885 Gandhi's father died. "The family decided Gandhi should travel to England to study law" (Smailes 8). Gandhi could not travel to non-Hindu countries, he ignored the people and went anyways. In 1891 , he has been in England for two years. Gandhi completed his studies and goes back home to India. Gandhi didn't want to work law in India so worked in South Africa.These two things happened in Gandhi's life.
Gandhi's life changed completely after an accident. Gandhi was on the train when an accident happens. "Gandhi had bought a ticket for a train, but when he tried to sit down in the correct seat, he was told only white people were allowed in that carriage" (Smailes 10-11). He then knew that South Africa is a very racist country. Gandhi argued with the policeman as much as he could but was throne out of the train at the next station. Gandhi decided to fight for the black people in South Africa. That was the time when Gandhi's life changed completely.
Gandhi wanted to make life for blacks fair in South Africa. The first thing Gandhi did was organize many meetings. "At these meetings , he called for the South African government to change the laws" (Smailes 12). White people became scared of Gandhi. The whites where scared he would make the Indians in South Africa fight against them. As stated Gandhi wanted to make life for blacks fair in South Africa.
