An Adventure, written by Charlotte Anne Moberly (18461937) and Eleanor Jourdain (18631924) under the pen names "Elizabeth Morison" and "Frances Lamont," was published in 1911. Their book recounts a trip they took to the Petit Trianon, a small château on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, where they claimed to have seen ghosts, including Marie Antoinette and others, as well as the gardens as they had been in the late eighteenth century.
Interesting account of a “time slip” experienced by two women at the Palace of Versailles in 1901. Subsequent visits were made and much research done to prove that what they saw was a visit to the past where they actually saw historical figures including Marie Antoinette. Some of it was a bit hard to follow (especially the paragraphs in French) but there is no doubt of the profound intelligence of these two women and that they truly believed that they were seeing an imprint of the past in the gardens of Versailles. A must for Marie Antoinette aficionados, as well as fans of haunted locations and time slip tales.
This was AWESOME. So detailed, so exquisitely researched. Well defended and funny at points! Also sad and reflective from the Queen's walk through of events. This was a GREAT story. I loved it! What an experience, what an adventure!
While I appreciate the adventure, sort of adventure, I wasn’t a huge fan of the meticulous research as to whether these two women actually saw the events surrounding Marie Antoinette’s last days. However I did enjoy the bit of history attached.
