Faithless Deluxe Edition

Rate this book
An erotic depiction of faith, sex, and the devil in the tradition of the divine comedy.

Faith likes to dabble with magic. Her friends think it’s cute—if not a little off-putting—but it’s part of her charm and warped sense of purpose in a world that makes too much sense. Faith’s a true believer and knows there’s power within her reach, but it took a while for that magic and temptation to find her.

That temptation? His name is Louis and with his guidance Faith embarks on a journey deep into the exclusive art world… with hellish consequences.

New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Moonshine) and artist Maria Llovet (Loud) coalesce in a story of sexual and magical awakenings, and maybe even love. The hit trilogy of graphic novels is collected under in one complete volume for the first time and features a series of explicit erotic covers by superstar artists Tula Lotay, Kris Anka, Jenny Frison, Becky Cloonan, Vanesa del Rey, and Dani.

Collects Faithless, Faithless II, and Faithless III.

A confession: I like to hoard books that I think I will love. Intermittently pulling them off the shelf ever so occasionally, so as to measure out their apparent magnificence in careful quantities. After all, you don't wanna burn through all those would be favourites too quickly. leaving you with a whole lot of mid for the rest of your life. And I'd been on a bit of a mid-streak of late, that's for sure. But for some reason, Faithless was meant to be different. Despite not knowing a thing about this series, I had decided in my head that this was going to be amazing. This was one of those books I was hoarding for a rainy day. And as you can see for from the score, the day not only kept raining, but a category 5 hurricane of faeces and sadness followed in it's wake. This may just be the biggest disappointment I've read all year, possibly ever. And 100 Bullets (also written by Azarello) is one of my favourite comics runs of all time.
Never, and I mean never have I read a story where everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, is a reprehensible, vile, horrendous excuse for a human being. Now, whilst to some extent, this may be intentional. but it doesn't make the reading experience any better. You're meant to love to hate bad/evil/nasty characters, not despise every second they spend on the page. Wanting to gouge your eyes out with rusty pet food lids rather than look at them for another second. Yet every character in Faithless prompts perhaps an even stronger reaction than that in me. I loathe them as I loathe pretty much every other thing about this book, with the possible exception of the art, which may have worked in a better story, but here its dragged down into the mire amidst this turgid and galling writing. This story is six issues worth of narrative, max! Quite how or why it was dragged out to 18 is beyond me. There are glaciers on heroin who move faster than this crap. Snails on holiday are greased lightning by comparison. Once every handful of issues, you get a hint that something (other than painfully existing amongst the human detritus called characters) may be happening, but it's dragged out, and dragged out, and dragged out. Its way too long and way too crap. Half this book is literally people having sex with each other, and it's still awful.
I hate it, I wish I never bought it, and I don't want to talk about it anymore. Avoid as if your life depends on it. 1/5

Very disturbing and not in a good way, avoid this like the plague.

I thought I'd try a more mature comic, so I grabbed the deluxe edition of this. I was expecting some spicy scenes and mature themes, but this book makes a point of showing the most immoral and messed up scenes, without it making any sense.

There is the story of the bible hidden very deep in here, but that part of the story doesn't need to be told in 18 issues. And among those 18 issues you have story worth of maybe 4 and the rest is just a morbid acid trip.

The art is ... muddy, not very clear and kind of ugly. Also it's very distracting to have the artist put their signature on every single page.

This is the first book out of 171 I've given a 1 star rating since I've started tracking my reads on here. Take that as a warning.

Finally read faithless.
I had to wait until I *almost* forgot most of the two preceding volumes to finally read it whole, and Lord, it was worth it.
It’s a blasphemous satire of love, art, religion, reality, free well, expectations; it’s also very much a mournfully erotic unrequited love story.
It mixes transgressive, decadent, popism, aestheticism into a Molotov cocktail of dizzying sights and emotions that you can’t help but to wonder if they were sincere or a subservience; either way, it was a heady read that I enjoyed being consumed by it, and not the other way around. Brain made a scandalous story and Marie transcended it into a vision.
By far, the best graphic novel I read this year. And very much highly recommended.

Faith is an artist and a little witchy. She meets Poppy and they hit it off. They become each other’s muses. Faith meets Solomon and Luis and they move through the art world. This is definitely a crazy journey, but I’m glad I have read the whole journey. The art style was crazy and I really enjoyed, if that’s the right word, this insane tale.
