Jimmy's new stepfather, wanting to get Jimmy out of his life, shipped him off to a most unusual boarding school where Jimmy became Alice and in all ways was dressed and treated as a girl by the aptly named directress, Lady Flayskin. Forced to wear constricting and painful feminine clothing, the students, both male and female, were paddled for the slightest infraction, and often for no reason at all. But the pupils devised a reasonably satisfactory means of soothing their punished comrades late at night as they supposedly slept in their dormitories. Alice became so accustomed to his new name that he almost failed to realize, at the end of the tale, that he was being hastily summoned in near panic when a staff member addressed him as Jimmy. Ah, revenge can be so sweet.
