Rita Chaney grew up in Decatur, Illinois in the midst of corn and soybean fields. She is the youngest of six children and has four sisters and one brother. Her siblings kept her busy playing tag, baseball, and hide-and-seek during the summers and having snowball fights in the winters.

Reading books as a youngster was a favorite pastime for Rita. She was especially pleased when her father brought home a stack of comics from the second-hand shop downtown. Rita’s writing skills were first noticed by friends and family when she won second place in a short-story writing contest sponsored by the local newspaper as a sophomore in high school.

Rita attended Millikin University where she earned a bachelors’ degree in Psychology and Sociology. She subsequently was awarded a masters’ degree in Clinical Psychology from Illinois State University. Serving as a counselor/therapist in the mental health field for over 25 years sharpened Rita’s clinical skills and penchant for details. Her desire to produce non-academic writing pieces increased after college, so she began writing for Yahoo and other websites.

She was eventually recruited to ghostwrite web content, including articles and e-books. Rita has recently written e-books published using her own name and has plans to write (at least) a few more of them covering a wide range of topics. Rita and her husband, Bill, reside on the Southwest Gulf Coast of Florida where they walk, spend time with family, and dream about writing the great American novel.
