Growth is how I imagine The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil would have turned out if it was written as a horror story in the 1800s. I've not read much Poe but the author manages to pull off the period style effectively while still being approachable to the modern reader. At just ten pages Growth manages to spin a tale of the macabre that is fully developed and doesn't outstay its welcome and all that for the low, low price of £0.00 you can't really complain.
