Jennifer Green is moving from Chicago to Philadelphia over the summer.
This is a pretty basic premise, in a book that left me with a lot of mixed feelings. First of all, I really liked how much detail went into moving and the emotions that go with that. This is probably the most real and honest book I've seen about this. The talking to God format works pretty well without getting overly preachy anywhere. I like how Jennifer is learning about God too, that she isn't an insta-Christian.
What I didn't like was how young Jennifer seems. I thought she was about 8 until we get to a point where we find out she's going into 8th grade. Seriously? She hasn't eaten out or stayed in a hotel or been on any kind of car trip before? Everything seems TOO new to her, like she's been in a plastic bubble half her life.
The interesting thing to note is that there really is no plot here. You're just experiencing life with Jennifer as things around her change. I actually kind of like this. Jennifer felt very real to me, as did her family.
Overall I'm kind of looking forward to where the rest of this series goes. I'm glad I stumbled across these books.
