It’s captivating how much knowledge this book imparts without overwhelming the reader with unnecessary details. It has the power to shift perspectives, challenging us to reconsider our relationship with nature and the environment.
The author masterfully weaves a narrative that sheds light on the relentless harm humans have inflicted on the planet. From the delicate balance of ecosystems to the environmental chaos we’ve unleashed, the book touches on crucial topics such as global warming, species extinction, and the origins of the universe. The story is a gentle yet profound exploration of why maintaining this balance is essential for our survival.

In essence, this is a book that everyone should read, as it beautifully encapsulates the magic and necessity of protecting our environment. It's a call to action, a guide for young minds, and a reminder for all of us that the preservation of our planet is a responsibility we cannot ignore.
The place where I live has not been touched by the destructive side of growing civilization. Trees have not been cut vehemently and no natural habitats destroyed in the process of making places for increasing masses here. We live here amid greenery and it has something that has had a lasting impact on my growth as a human.
I often take solitary walks as I humbly pass through the trees that have made our place so beautiful. I gaze at trees, soil, creatures, shrubs and this earth and I feel a primordial connection to them. From where life begins, life returns to the same place. The source of all, the end of all. Not the end actually, we continue to live on with them.
Today, our gentle ecosystem, our gentlest earth faces an ecological crisis, faces the wrath of climate change. And we humans the way we separate ourselves from others, mainly the earth, with the ego and pride that nothing could touch us have simply forgotten that we too stand on the precipice facing the same crisis. We have ushered in our destruction.
It is a crucial time to speak about it, especially letting the new generation know what is happening and that is ultimately our responsibility to take care of it. That we do not destroy, do not litter the place we live and love in.
Jerry Pinto’s The Magical Everything aims to do just that. Through the lens of a fourteen-year-old protagonist Ila, the readers embark on an ethereal journey to understand that everything is connected to us and we are connected to everything on this earth. On her journey, she finds friends in characters like Hanu the Langur, Worm the Earthworm, Mira the Humpback whale, and Mr Ramanujan the astronaut making her experience more enriching.
Witten keeping children and adults in mind, the language and the flow of the story is easy to follow and enjoy. Since It is a part graphic novel, the graphic illustrations add to the imagination of the young ones and relaxation of the adults. It is a quick read with only 96 or so pages so it is not a behemoth task to read this one. Interesting, evoking and part sensitive and emotional is the way I would describe the experience of reading this book.
A good book to relax and unwind and generate awareness!
THE MAGICAL EVERYTHING BY JENNY PINTO 🌸 Children's Book 🌸 Notion Press
"WE ARE ALL STARDUST IN A QUEST FOR THE MAGICAL EVERYTHING!"
Science is often undistinguishing from magic. The book explains the story of the earth in a way that even small children can understand it since it is in a story form where Illa,a 14 year old who on the insistence of insistence of Kapok goes on an adventure. Illa is tasked with a science project to discuss Climate change. But she is not able to choose a topic to do that. After all, what's the most important thing in nature? How do we choose just one important thing?
On her journey to discover the Magical everything- THE SECRET SAUCE OF LIFE, Ila meets several beautiful creatures- Mr Ramanujan, the astronaut, Hanu the langur, Mira the humpback whale, Wrom the Earthworm who let her experience various elements of earth like evolution, ocean, forest and soil.
Illa experiences a deeper magical connection to earth. The amazement at finding how humans are not alone on earth, how mother nature balances herself and forgives our misdoings. Illa's joy was reflected on my face. I read the whole book with a wonder on my face and glimmer in my eyes.
The book reminded me of my childhood days. I used to be so curious about everything. Once, I stubbornly made my parents buy me colourful fat enclyopedias. I got to know so many new things like about the Cambrian explosion,Zoological Time Scale and Jurassic period etc.
The language was easy and super fluid. The book is suitable to all ages. The narrative was engaging and fun to read. The illustrations are so beautiful and interactive. The book is written in a hybrid two formats- a comic book version and a paragraph based story telling. It's quite a short read with only 100 pages or so. The characters were funny, and empathatic, really well sketched.
Climate change is a hot topic of discussion. Anyone and everyone has their two cents to contribute on the matter, as they should. It's something that affects everyone of us, present and future. So, we should PAUSE and THINK hard on the topic. Afterall, UNDERSTANDING EVENTUALLY LEADS TO DOING THE RIGHT THING. Overall, a must read book for all.
Ila has a project to do with her best friend and is confused about how to start. The topic is climate change. She discusses the project with her best friend Kapok, the tree in her backyard. Kapok helps her by taking her on an adventurous journey where she explores the natural world.
The story begins with a confused Ila unable to find answers, followed by a thrilling journey to space, water, jungle, and soil. This sparks her curiosity about the laws of nature and how humans have contributed to climate change and other disasters.
In her book ‘The Magical Everything’, Jenny Pinto addresses an important issue for young readers while explaining the causes and effects of our actions. With a crisp, descriptive narrative and engaging writing style, she keeps the young readers invested with the exciting dialogues and illustrations.
Ila’s deep fascination with the natural world becomes evident as she gracefully immerses herself in its beauty. Her proactive approach to problem-solving reflects her unwavering determination to bring about positive change. Jenny’s insightful and captivating descriptions of ecological crises are truly remarkable. Her ability to articulate complex concepts with ease makes it simple for readers to grasp and appreciate the depth of the issues at hand.
Ila's engaging discussions with her dad were the highlight for me. They provided a fresh perspective and made the book a truly thought-provoking read. I loved Ila’s character the most. Her enthusiasm and quest to learn more made me fall in love with her.
It's a captivating read that will keep you engrossed from the very first page to the last. The fascinating and brilliantly woven plot, along with its compelling and thought-provoking themes, make it a must-read for readers of all ages, especially children.
“No one is terrible at science, we live science every moment of the day. We just don't think about it."
- Jenny Pinto, The Magical Everything
Ila was sad that her best friend Malika was aloof and not doing her bit for the planet They were assigned to the same team and had to come up with a foolproof idea for their science project. Saddened by this, she finds solace under the shelter of Kapok (Ceiba Pentandra) tree and finds answers to her questions.
‘The Magical Everything’ elaborates the formation of earth on how the right balance of elements created a safe haven for numerous organisms inhabiting the planet. It also emphasizes conscious consumption for its sustenance.
The tree in the picture - Ceiba Pentandra has a life span of more than 60 years. Used in pillow cases and upholstery, it's a native of South American regions but some are found in India too. The lifeforms in large water bodies are also in focus as the read elucidates how oxygen is mostly produced in ocean by microorganisms called phytoplanktons.
Jenny Pinto has painstakingly researched every fact and put forward her point across in a succinct manner. The characters like Mira (The Humpback Whale), Ramanujam(The Scientist), leap off the pages through pronounced illustrations. I love the fact that the five elements of earth and its inhabitants are well represented.
The narrative could have been condensed to include more graphics and be accessible to a wider audience. The numbers and statistics could have been omitted.
“The Magical Everything! That's the secret sauce of life. Let's just say, we are all stardust in a quest for the magical everything.”
Climate change has been one of the major reasons for global warming, and as we move towards getting ourselves new infrastructure, technology, and an easy-going lifestyle, we move away from nature.
A few days ago a big book titled 'THE MAGICAL EVERYTHING-THE SECRET SAUCE OF LIFE' came to my doorstep. It's a giant that won't just take up an adequate amount of space on your shelf but also your mind.
It's the story of a 14-year-old Illa who is tasked to do a science project on Climate Change, but as a child, it's not easy for her to understand what topics and themes to include in her project to make it look informative, so it's a story of her awareness and discovery towards the subject of Climate Change. In her journey she meets numerous characters that shower her with information and wisdom, Mr Ramanujan, the astronaut, Hanu the langur, Mira the humpback whale, the Earthworm who lets her experience various elements of earth like evolution, ocean, forest, and soil.
Throughout her journey, she discovers the importance of nature and its resources. She gets to acknowledge the fact that humans owe so much to the world around them, the world that lives outside our four walls.
Filled with beautiful illustrations by Sharon Dev and the engrossing writing of Jerry Pinto, it's a volume worth keeping on our shelf and owning.
A 100-page ode to Mother Earth, that grips us with its childish but wisdom-filled narration and storyline. It will be a great book for all the kids, they will surely get to learn the importance of nature and understand that humans are not the only ones who depend on Earth for resources but there are flora, fauna, and whatnot.
The Magical Everything by Jenny Pinto, illustrated by Sharon Dev is a hybrid graphic novel where the author takes the readers on an adventure into the eco-wonderlands in search of the magical everything - the magic of nature, through the character of Ila. When Ila finds it difficult to create a science project with her friend Mallika on Climate change, she seeks refuge in Kapak, a huge old silk cotton tree and other characters such as Mira, Mr. Ramanujam, Hanu, and others. Go on this journey with Ila to find not only the solution for her science project, a subject which she doesn't enjoy much, but also for a journey of learning and fun.
The story was very well set and tried to make the facts of science fun with the intermingling of both aspects. The illustrations go very well with the story and make it more interesting.
The story tried to engage the readers with the wonders of nature and how it works from the time the earth was created to its present scenario - the age of Anthropocene and climate change, and how humans are making matters worse and what can be done now. Though the story got the element where it could be easily engaging, the story was highly academic as well, and at times, the intermixing of storytelling and learning felt imbalanced.
Overall, it is an educating and entertaining read for Middle and High School Children (but obviously can be read by Adults as well) about our environment, surroundings and the climate crisis in an engaging and visually appealing way.
Jenny Pinto’s "The Magical Everything" narrates the story of Earth in a way that's accessible to young readers, weaving an educational tale through the adventures of Illa, a 14-year-old. Encouraged by Kapok, Illa embarks on a journey to complete her science project on climate change, yet she struggles to pinpoint a single topic. Through her quest to uncover the "Magical Everything," the essence of life, Illa encounters a host of intriguing characters, including Mr. Ramanujan the astronaut, Hanu the langur, Mira the humpback whale, and Wrom the Earthworm. These characters introduce her to various aspects of our planet such as evolution, oceans, forests, and soil.
As Illa explores, she forms a profound connection with Earth, realizing how humanity coexists with nature and how Mother Earth maintains a balance and forgives our transgressions. Her sense of wonder and joy resonates with the reader, making the book an engaging experience filled with discovery and insight.
While the book makes scientific facts engaging through storytelling, at times, the balance between educational content and narrative may seem slightly uneven. Nonetheless, it remains an informative and entertaining read for middle and high school students, as well as adults interested in environmental issues. It provides a visually appealing and interactive approach to learning about our planet and the climate crisis.
Have you ever wondered why the sun exists? If so, this book has all the answers you're looking for.

I read this book in one sitting, and it felt like a delightful journey. It's a story about the Earth that even young kids can understand. With Kapok's help, she travels and meets a cast of creatures - an astronaut, a whale, a langur and an earthworm, each imparting knowledge in helping her find 'the magical everything'. Throughout her adventures she learns about various environmental revolutions, gaining deeper understanding and appreciation for things around, from stardusts to soil-mate (kinda like soul mate).
