Out of the Jungle: A True Story of a Young Mennonite Boy in the Paraguayan Chaco
This unique story is filled with delightful tales of growing up in a tropical Mennonite colony.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll gasp in horror as you follow Peter through his adventures in the Paraguayan Chaco.
You’ll wonder how he survived being run over by a horse, nearly drowning, being lost in the wilderness at night, and many other memorable incidents.
"I read your stories with great such a text is very rare, and I'm happy you wrote this for us to read -- many have lived it, but it is truly a unique story to read, and all the more important for that reason." —Rudy Wiebe
"I found reading Peter's account of the first fifteen years of his life in Paraguay fascinating reading. One can only imagine what life was like living in the wilderness with a few other families. It entailed a lot of hardship but also excitement and adventure. One is forced to become self-sufficient and driven to depend on community. These times have passed except for what happens in a few isolated corners of this world. It's good to put these experiences on paper for future generations." —Bert Witvoet, Former Editor of the Christian Courier
Author Peter Boldt was born to Russian-Mennonite parents in the Paraguayan Chaco where he spent the first fifteen years of his life before moving to Canada with his parents. He has been happily married to Fern since 1965, is the father of four sons and “Opa” to eight grandchildren.
