Finally ending her nightmare of a marriage has Haven Merrick scrambling to piece her life back together. Healing isn't easy, and although everyone means well by offering their help, she wants to stand on her own two feet for the first time. However, some nightmares are hard to escape, no matter how much you wish them away.
Xavier Lockhart has survived his own marriage ending after experiencing a loss that had him questioning everything. He specializes in fixing broken people, but can't fix his own problems to save his life. When he runs into a broken woman on his operating table, he wants nothing more than to heal her in more ways than the physical.
Fate has a way of bringing these two back together under extreme circumstances. Haven's past has started to invade her present, and she's helpless. What do you do when the man of your dreams offers you a Safe Haven?
First read by this author, and I will be checking out her catalog soon. Haven narrowly escapes the horrific abuse of her husband, only to find the smothering and belittling of her by her family felt just as bad. I understand that family wants to help, support, and protect you, but when the reins are kept so tight that you feel like you are imprisoned, how is that helping? 👀
I was drawn in during that first chapter. It was like I could feel Haven's pain, hear her thoughts, and feel her determination to get out of that situation, that she let go on for too long. But what now?
Somehow connecting with Joyce, Zayne, and Xavier seemed like a coincidence, but it had to be divine intervention. She needed that family to put her on the path to healing, in her own time and in her own way. I loved how they each gave her sound advice, kept her safe, and allowed her to regain her independence in a healthy way. Xavier was bae. 🤩 He wanted to protect Haven the moment he laid eyes on her and made sure he did just that. Even if it was protection from her own family.
I'm still giving Haven's momma the 👀, cause why didn't you listen to your child? You put her in this situation and sitting back without a care in the world. 😤 Momma needs to catch some hands. 😡 Phillip and Bliss' parents were trash. Why are you out here enabling these grown ass people when they doing wrong? 🤬 There were a few areas where the editing could have been tighter, but really enjoyed this read.
This was the first read by this author. I really enjoyed this book. It was great to see the evolution of Haven. She decided she was no longer going to be a victim and she was going to fight back. Xavier and his family had her back and uplifted her way more than her family. I’m glad Haven got her HEA.
Xavier and Haven's story was good. Haven was abused by her husband and the author detailed her fear and struggles well. Philip beat her so badly that surgery was needed. That's where Xavier comes in he's her surgeon. What I found interesting was that the stalker nurse, Denise nor anyone else referred to him as Dr Lockhart. When Joyce and Ernest were shot he couldn't get details but her sister Noelle was able to get more info??? Yeah that was a major misstep for the author.
Did Denise think that Xavier people wasted going to check into her backgrounds? Now, if Haven’s mama gave Philip her number, she causing more harm than good. And is not because their mama’s been the best of friends. They knew Phillip terrorized Haven. Bliss parents are trash, they saw her self-distracting your
This book really gave us a glimpse of domestic violence and the way it affects the whole family from different angles. We even got to see how years later from generation to generation the impact is felt. I love that Haven really empowered herself and didn’t need to be saved by another man! Great read!
This book wad everything and held my attention. My heart went out to Haven. I love that Xavier was there for her. I love the fact that she took her power back. I didn't like her family but I'm glad she gotten a happy ending she definitely deserved it.
I will admit this book deserves a five star review; unfortunately, I gave it two stars because of vast amount of grammatical errors. I had decipher too many times throughout each chapter instead of just being able to relax and enjoy this book.
This story was very good. From the first page, I was rooting for Haven to get to where she needed to be. D'Mesha did her thing. I couldn't put the book down.
