Variety of thoughts - Literally only gave 2 stars for the last 2 chapters.
- I just didn't get on with the authors writing style, so this review is also a little on me. For example, the book is written in third person, which took me a few chapters to get used to.
- Literally nothing happened for the first 30% of the book. A lot of the information was just irrelevant.
- For a paranormal thriller, there was paranormal scenes in the last 2 chapters of the book and absolutely 0 anticipation.
- None of the characters had any personality. Considering Lucy was a 6 year old, why does she speak like she's an 80 year old man?
- Tom was the worst, Cecila should've just let him die tbh.
Anyways for a book that was only 200 pages long, it took way too much effort to read it, and was bored for a big chunk for the book.
Enjoy my (very few) highlights:
"and she received the full impact of his gaze. Immediately her heart set up a frenzied tattoo high in her chest and her face grew hot. There was a deeply compelling quality about those strange, heavy- lidded eyes which affected her profoundly and she was blazingly aware of an animal magnetism about him which repelled even as it strongly attracted her. For a second longer those hooded eyes held her captive as effortlessly as a snake hypnotising a rabbit."
"How dare he subject her to so humiliating a display of his power— power which, until it claimed her, she had not even suspected."
"Lucas Todd was leaning against the window frame, the sun behind him bestowing on him a dark, unholy halo."
"If you fight me I can make you regret it. If you succumb, there is nothing I will not do for you."
"Sweet, simpering, helpless little Eva, playing up to big, strong, protective Tom! Would men never realise how easy it was to gain control of them?"
"Heaven won’t help you,’ Eva said gently. ‘Hell might."
