This book has you hooked from the beginning.
We know Veronica is running from something…. Something HUGE and there are consequences for that running.
She returns home after 4 years and is a different person than who she was.
And one of those consequences is shown in the first chapter!
All we know is she has made a Bet with someone and it changed her life.
I’m not going to ruin it for you so will keep this short and sweet.
Jen Cousineau has written a beautiful book.
Veronica has been through a lot of shit! I need to state that the warning that goes with this book

***WARNING - This book is recommended for mature adults 18+ as it contains violence, sexual violence, sexual content, and vulgarity.***

Was NOT LYING...some of the stuff is just plain FUCKED UP!
But that was makes it a great read… yes there is shitloads of “dark” but there is also “light” to balance it out.

The relationship each character shares with everyone else is good and the chemistry between out Hero and Heroine is WHOA off the chrts.
Ladies you will swoon over Mr. Chase Summers.
I understand that this book won’t be for everyone.
But it def was me. I will be checking out Jen’s other books for sure!

I was given an ARC copy for a honest review.

Firstly I want to say that I love this book. The mystery that occured, made it a non-stop read until I was finished.

This story entails the life of Veronica who experienced the worst just by agreeing to a simple bet, which proved to be deadly. She experienced pain in the most torturous ways. However she tries to get through this trouble by living with three drop dead gorgeous men and an old and frail Grandmother, after witnessing a deadly accident.

Veronica's becomes shocked when she hears what she had missed in the last 4 years.

She finds it hard to leave as she doesn't want to put them in danger by staying, but she finds it hard to stay away from the hot Chase Summers.

Veronica feels that Chase is The One for her but she feels used and unworthy of Chase's love. This doesn't seem to affect Chase as he loves her as much as he used to when they were little.

The three Summer boys try to find out what Veronica went through, however as the truth unveils, will the Summer boys be able to contain themselves when they find out about Veronicas unwanted baggage?

Holy wow, this book is, intense, suspenseful and also sexy all at the same time. I started to read this book and finished it in one setting. I had to know what happens next. And boy some of this book had me gasping.
Veronica made a bet 4 years prior and now she is paying the consequences for not going through with it. She gets married to Joe and I hate that dude. She witness her family being blown up at the beginning, that makes her go back home to her grams and Chase, Landon and Trey. All she wants to do is protect them from danger because of the bet she made. She gets re-acquainted with Chase and boy is is smoking hott!!!
I think what Jen did in this book was pure brilliant, she drew me and the book never had a dull moment. I totally can say I would recommend this book to my book friends. Thank you Jen for writing an incredible book.

Gosh...I hate doing this. I don't like giving a bad review.

The writing had lots of flaws. The dialogue between characters was really weird. like they weren't responding to the same conversation sometimes. very inappropriately timed lightening of conversation.

The prologue was completely confusing and not in the way where you just don't understand what is going on yet. then because the characters are so blasé about the events when they are explained in chapter 1, I almost assume it must have been a dream. certainly that would garner some attention.

I ended up skimming through the last 25% to see how it ended. not pretty.

I really enjoyed this book. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because Chase is too nice. I know that sounds awful, but the main male character in a book should not be that sweet. I could not stand all the times he called her baby. At a point, it was actually starting to make me cringe. Besides that, I loved this story.I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I would definitely recommend this book.

Oh, I absolutely love the cover!!!

The story opens with a bang and you are on an emotional journey with Veronica till the very end. I'm not sure how I feel about Veronica. But then you have Chase. I love Chase, and his brothers. I will definitely read Trey's book and see where this series goes.

I wanted to start off by saying I LOVE CHASE SUMMERS!! He is sexy as sin and the sweetest guy EVER!

This book was an interesting read. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get into, but it sure wasn’t what the book I was thinking about. Holy hell some of the stuff that Veronica went thru was absolutely heart breaking. Though at times she seems pretty whiney, you definitely see her as a strong woman to do what she did.

Veronica made a bet with the wrong person 4 years ago and ever sense then her live has been nothing put pain. But after she finds out she’s pregnant she decides she needs to leave her situation now to help save her unborn child. This is when everything goes to shit.

After witnessing a fatal incident, Veronica heads to the only place she ever really felt at home. Back to her grandmothers. This is where she meets up with the Summer boys (who are all unfairly drop dead gorgeous) after 4 long years. This is also when she see Chase, the lost love of her life, since she broke up with him.

While Chase and the other Summer boys try to drag information from Veronica, they are horrified to know that she went through that and they weren’t there to help her. Chase is determined to keep Veronica and her unborn at his side. He’ll do ANYTHING to prevent Veronica from going back to where she was before.

Veronica’s past finds her and is looking to take her back and show her how much of a naughty girl she’s been. She’s petrified, and this is when the Summer boys and even little ole grandma steps in.

Will they be able to keep Veronica, her baby and everyone safe? Or will Veronica end up going back to what she ran away from?

I really enjoyed reading this book! It was hard for me to put this down so that I could do actual work. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book with Trey Summers..

I really enjoyed this book. It took a couple chapters for the plot of the story to take shape but once it did, the story truly held my interest until the very end. Veronica met the love of her life when she was 12.

His two brothers and himself, were taken in by her grandmother and she formed extremely close relationships with all three of the guys. One was more her brother, one was her best friend and the other was her love.

She makes a horrible decision by agreeing to a very bad bet with a guy playing pool and leaves her family and her love because of this but she isn't able to tell them why she left or where she went. When she makes the decision to return to her family and her old life, she has to figure out if she should tell the three guys that would do anything for her all she has went through or should she keep trying to protect the rest of her family and run and hide forever. Veronica goes through so much turmoil during the four years she leaves her friends and family that you really want justice to be served.

I have to say I can't wait for the next book in the series. And would highly recommend it..

Veronica has never had a easy life and it's only getting worse. After escaping from a violent husband and faced with losing her family, Veronica turns to the only people she has left, the Summer Brothers. Can Veronica overcome her fears and her past? Or will her past come back to haunt her?

***WARNING: MULTIPLE SCENES OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND ABUSE. 18+ ONLY***

This book was one that was very different than any other book I have read. It is very dark but at the same time hopeful. I had a hard time at parts in the book because at times there seemed to be a lack of emotion. This can be expected of Veronica due to her history but I felt the lack of emotion was present in all the characters to a degree. With this being said, I will be anxiously waiting for the second installment of this series! I can't wait to hear Trey's story!!

If you like books with a little danger then you will love this book!

I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.

WOW, this book starts out running! It grabs you from the moment that you start reading it. And it really never lets you go until you read the very last page! This is the first book that I have read by Jen, and I can tell you that it is not going to be the last. She writes a very well told story, and she knows how to pull your heart strings just a little bit to get that one single tear to fall. But she doesn't make you ugly cry at all, there are just a few spots that your heart strings are going to get pulled on a little bit.

Veronica is a strong independent woman that is trying to protect her family. When she comes back home for Christmas all hell breaks loose. She sees her best friends, and her ex-boyfriend. There are secrets and surprises in this book that I didn't even see coming. Jen has taken this particular story and made it awesome! I can't wait until her next book comes out!

I was given an ARC copy of this for an honest review.

What a great book. I couldn't put it down.

Veronica, V, is an outgoing, fun, college student who doesn't turn down a bet. She gets 'railroaded' into a bet during a pool game and by accepting the terms, she unknowningly places herself in danger. Joe, is a horrible person, I wanted to reach thru my Kindle and choke the crap outta him. V is placed in horrible situations and is put in near death situations because of this bet. She flees back home only to have him follow her and turn her life upside down for 'breaking the rules.' She reunites with her childhood love (and my new book boyfriend <3 *swoon*) Chase, his brothers, and Gram. I don't want to give any spoilers, but dang this book was great!!! Its about hardship, bad situations, love, and family. This book may not be for everyone as it has abuse, sexual scenes, and strong language. I give it a 100% recommendation.

I really liked this book!
All the suspense you get from the beginning about what really happened to Veronica, makes you want to devour the book!
Veronica made a bad choice that lead her into suffer... and did she suffer alright!
I felt so bad for her, for all the things that happened... and you keep asking yourself: Why? Why her?
Then we met the brothers and you feel like WOW! Three of them? Hell Yeah!
They are hot, sweet and super protective of Veronica and her grandmother. Yeah we like them like that!
All the story is super addictive, you want to know more and more, never expecting what happens next. And to prove this point, you'll see that in the ending you wouldn't expect what really happened... I confess that a tear escaped...
You will get sexy hot scenes too, because Chase is that good!!!
Cant wait to know what happens to Trey in the next book!

First off I must say I love this cover. With that said on to the story inside. When I first started reading I had a little trouble getting into the books with the first couple chapters.
But I am so glad I held out. And kept reading. It was worth it. When I finally got into the book I was sucked in and couldn't stop reading.
I had to know everything that was going on, it's a real page turner. So much suspense I loved it!
Overall the plot was well thought out. The characters were will written. And I enjoyed the book. I can't wait to read more from Jen Cousineau in the future.

I almost wish I could give negative stars! I couldn't even finish this book - I never stop reading a book, because even if I hate it I need to know how it ends... This book - I just couldn't.. The storyline was completely unbelievable.. The heroine of the story was so tortured and broken on 1 page and the next page she is fine... I just couldn't!

Dear merciful heavens, wtf kinda can of worms did I just open. Do not waste your time reading this. If you have any firing synapses at all, this book (cringes at using that term for this crap) will leave you scratching and pulling at your hair !!!

I have never, not once, even when I am giving a high-flying book a one star, commented on other reader's ratings. But, there's just no way in hell that this book honestly gained this many five star ratings and reviews... No f'ing way!

This isn't a mere issue of story lines, characters, or a writing style that's subjectively love, hate, or meh. No, this is an issue that this book makes absolutely NO FING SENSE whatsoever to any semi-same mind!

I begin the book utterly confused as to what the hell is happening/has happened for a good 20 minutes. She goes from being outside her parent's house and it ( we assume) exploding in fire to her arriving at her grandmas still wearing ashy, burnt clothes. That was a bit weird without some kind of dialogue, inner monologue, something to connect the jump. I'm thinking escapee from mental ward or that this book has some paranormal element not disclosed.

Soon we jump from confusion to pure madness... I'm talking Cat In The Hat madness people!

The entire reaction to the F'ing family being blown up in a fire was beyond comprehension. It goes something like: 'Hey, gram everyone's dead; it's on the news. I'm sooooooo Sorry!'.... 'Oh, it's okay hun. It's not your fault. Why don't you go to bed.' The next day - 'hey, let's have Christmas anyway cuz the family that died last night would want us to be happy'

^ No one is crying or even f'ing thinking about these dead SOB's other than eventually mentioning they have to have a funeral for them. wtf?

Lust and grief, Sex and Danger ... Yeah, they often get blurred and played off each other in confusion and being overwhelmed. But, this chick is just f'ing nuts!

She has just watched her entire family minus one grandma get blown up; she's pregnant with a rapist dude's baby for a second time after he forced her to marry him and killed the first pregnancy; she's endured being a sex slave to a gang of rapists; she has this said rapist, abuser, husband of of hers hunting her; she's having nightmares about said dude's violence; she finds out her grandma is dying; etc... & this crazy chick is begging her ex boyfriend to f her in her grandmas house & internally noting how "wet" she is for him every other paragraph!!! It's not only off-putting, but unbelievable that anyone that's survived her ordeal and is still running from it would be getting "wet" EVERY two seconds and is often doing so RIGHT AFTER describing an abuse element of her past.

Mind you she's been with rapist husband and his gang for a couple of years & could have every STD known to God and man. So what does ex boyfriend do? Well, he plows right in with no condom & they scream "fuck" and "oh God" while granny and his bro's are hanging out listening to the acoustic expletives. Okay! That's not weird:/

'Hey my crazy, violent, rapist husband blew up my family and will kill y'all too if he finds out about y'all' So what do these crazy f'rs do with the info they've FINALLY pried out of her? Well, wth else but play Monopoly and watch National Lampoons.

These brothers want details, but when details are given, they either ask her why she didn't fight or go to the cops -or- they completely breeze over it like she had just told them she's been on a bad vacation or something. It's ridiculous reactions. The reaction by Chase & everyone else as to her hesitancy to jump back into a relationship with him is infuriating. She just told em she's basically been a tortured sex slave & they're asking her why she don't want to "be" with Chase... Again, wtf? Nutso shitz! They get more upset about her being put on a 900 calorie diet than the fact she was repeatedly gang raped and sodomized.

The f'ing dialogue trampoline almost gave me a nervous breakdown!! These convos go at warp speed from reliving gang banging rape sessions to making snow angels in present day to confessions of being nearly starved..to having sex with the ex boyfriend all in 10 minutes worth of reading. It was so spastic, sporadic, and deluded that scenes that would've brought me to tears within ANY other book elicited ZERO emotional responses.

I just had to call it quits with the candy truth game and dissertation on orgasms during rape. Nope, I'm done... Couldn't finish this if someone paid Me to keep reading!

Five stars my arse! I can't believe anyone read this and actually thought it worthy of five stars! Readers beware something stinks & it's not the blue cheese!

Veronica, V, is young, attractive and living a pretty good life up until right before her senior year in college. A loving family, a hot boyfriend and a great life ahead of her. Until the fateful night where she makes a bet with Joe. A bet, she thinks is an easy feat. She’ll never have to pay up because she’ll win. She loses and at that moment, her life is forever changed. Joe, who isn’t who he appears to be, threatens and violates her. Veronica makes a decision to protect her family from this evil man. She abruptly leaves, marries Joe and begins her new life.

A few years go by. Veronica reappears, pregnant, only to see her entire family perish in a horrific explosion, on Christmas Eve. She goes to the only place she knows she will be safe, her beloved Grams home. That also means seeing the three brothers that were her rock, best friend and old lover. They accept her, protect her and love her. But, they also have questions, many questions that need to be answered. They need her to tell her story. The abuse and obsession that was once a daily occurrence has to stop.

The horrific events that V has been through is unimaginable. She is terrified, but remembers the love that once surrounded her and longs to feel it again. Her need to protect her loved ones is evident. Their need to never let her go, overshadows her desire to keep them safe.

V’s bond with each of the Summers brothers is unique, but at the same time, encompassing. A Deadly Bet illustrates in detail the relationship between V and the brothers. The story focuses on Chase Summers and V, who were once in the beginnings of their affinity for one another. Friends since they were twelve, they only started their affection towards one another shortly before Veronica leaves town, with no note, no explanation, nothing. Leaving Chase to pine for her over the years to come.

This is a story of undying & unconditional love, the value of hope and never giving up. Jen Cousineau has done an astonishing job of giving each character depth and believable feelings. It is an extraordinary story of injustice, strength, and resilience. The details are impressive, it’s almost as if the reader is there, in the corner of the room, watching the story progress. The author ties up this book with a very loose bow, that strings across nicely to the second book of this series, A Secret Gamble.

This series needs to be read in order.

3.5 stars!!

I am torn when it comes to this book. There were things that I liked about the book and then there were things that really frustrated me.

In the beginning of the book I was a little thrown off guard. A major event takes place right from the start, then in the next few pages, it's as if it never happened. As if it wasn't important. I felt that it should have garnered a little more attention with it being such a dramatic event. Another thing that threw me off or just seemed kind of different was that Veronica had been away for 4 years. She left her previous life without even telling anyone. When she comes back into Chase's life after all that time, he starts calling her.. Baby right from the start. I don't know, but for some reason it just felt odd to me. I was like ...wait a minute!; who is this guy? It made me feel like I missed something because at that point in the story, you didn't really know who he was to her. He just calls her baby after not seeing her for 4 years and then their relationship proceeds as if nothing ever happened?

I did like Chase. Chase was so open-minded when it came to Veronica's situation and despite it,he loved Veronica with all his heart. Veronica tries to keep Chase at a distance to protect him, but Chase does not care...all he wants is to be with Veronica. After she left him, Chase was unable to move on. He felt like there was no life without her. So when she comes back into his life, he is willing fight to get her back and protect her.

I really wanted to fall in love with this book. After seeing all the teasers from this story, I was really looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, I did not fall in love with it like I'd hoped. There were a few heartbreaking moments that were skimmed over so it didn't give me a chance to react to the situation. I felt those were the parts that could have pulled the reader in more and create a stronger emotional attachment to the characters. I really like the story line. I just needed more to be able to connect.

I am looking forward to reading Trey's story. I enjoyed his character and personality in this book so I would love to read what his story brings!!

First things first. I thought this was sort of paranormal. Those kinds where she can see what'll happen in the future and she got the ability from some deadly bet. BUT BOY, I THOUGHT WRONG AND HELL, I WAS SO OUT OF LINE. Judge me. I really don't read the genre or blurb or excerpt or summary. I rarely do that. I mean, I don't care, I read pretty much everything.

So back to the book.

This just me hooked right at the prologue. It was everything. Everything is fine and cool and actually great but then boom! Life and some asshole shit happened. There it is.

I really liked and liked this book but it sort felt like it kinda tried too hard to be this long, like a few pages longer than it really should've just been.

This book is basically everything. Tragedy, pain, love, family, care/ing, acceptance, confusion, frustration, madness, chaos, humanity. Yep, that one. Humanity. I should say that it (I don't really want to spoil you)was a really sensitive topic and God, to die that way, just no. And God, just, the children! Gah, no!

There was little lack on the action side, especially on the climax but really, I don't blame you for being blindfolded that time. But well, there were enough action there. (You might be thinking of a different action than what I'm *trying* to talk about but... READ THE BOOK)

Things I therefore conclude:
1. DO NOT MAKE A BET WITH SOME PATHETIC LOOKING STRANGER AND JUST TRUST YOUR GUTS TO RUN AWAY.
2. Never lie to that one true love of your life.
3. Love to the fullest.

*SPOILER ALERT!!!*
I think Landon secretly has a thing for V. That, or he's gay. I'd rather go for Guess A.
*SPOILER OVER!!!*

Can't wait for Trey's story!!

This book was definitely an interesting read! When I first looked at the synopsis, I was unsure of whether or not I would actually like the book. I am so glad that I did read this book!! It is incredible! Some of the things Veronica went through was absolutely heartbreaking and made my heart hurt.

Four years ago, Veronica made a bit with the wrong person and everyday since then her life has been full of pain. When she finds out that she's pregnant she needs to get out of the situation that she's in to save her soon to be child. With this decision made everything turns even worse.

When she witnesses horrendous incident, Veronica heads to the place where she feels at home. This place is her grandmothers. After 4 years, she meets back up with the HOT Summer boys. During this time, she meets back up with Chase Summers, her long lost love.
Chase and the other Summer boys attempt to get the information out of Veronica, when the finally do, they are horrified that they were not there when she needed them. Chase is the most determined to keep Veronica and her child safe. He will do absolutely anything to keep them safe.

I really enjoyed this book!! I read this book in one sitting, I could not put it down! I cannot wait to see what happens with Trey.

Wow! I am kicking myself right now for holding off for so long before reading A Deadly Bet. First of all, this book started off with a bang (literally) and I was hooked instantly! I stayed up past my self-imposed bedtime to read and woke a little over 4 hours later to pick up where I left off (and ultimately finishing).

Jen Cousineau did a wonderful job pulling you in and telling a story that was so well written and exciting, heartbreaking and real, full of suspense and emotion. I fell in love with the Summers brothers, Gram and V and wanted to kill Joe. I was so into the story that I plotted what I would do to Joe if I were V, or even another character in the book.

If you love angst, unconditional love, suspend, mind-fu*kery and a brilliant and addicting story line, do NOT wait to read this like I did. However, there was a silver lining, I won't have to wait quite as long for the next book :)

I was given an ARC for an honest review.
5 out of 5 amazing stars

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started reading A Deadly Bet. The story sounded really interesting which had me excited to read it. I was blown away with this book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. The more you read the more the book grips you and you find yourself with a book hang over the next day. The characters were extremely well written and loveable. Veronica is such a strong character and there wasn’t anything I did not like about her. Chase was also another character I loved. I won’t lie when I read that the main character was is going to school in Green Bay Wisconsin I got really excited. I am from Appleton Wisconsin and I love when I can find new authors that are from my home state. With that being said. The story is rocking awesome. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes suspense and a great page turner with romance.

I sat down to start this book today and finished it in one sitting. I was so captivated by the story and found myself emotionally involved. At times I got frustrated with V, but somehow understood her position. And Chase, oh can I have one of him for me please. Jen Cousineau was able to tell a story that had lots of heartache and twistedness (not sure that's a word, but it fits) and HOT sex scenes, but yet gave you hope too. This story is about overcoming some pretty horrific tragedies and being able to move forward and live. I am still reeling from this read and am finding myself at a loss for words because all I can say is I WANT MORE.. I need to have Trey's story and I need it like yesterday.. I am so glad I was given the pleasure to be introduced to an amazing author and look forward to reading more.. Hint Hint, TREY, NOW :)
