Raziel Claskey has always known that monsters exist. He’s spent his entire life being hunted by them. So, when he staggers in to the arms of a blood-sucking sex-worker, he’s not surprised. In fact, he’s relieved. Her nature would save him a bullet. And it does— just not in the way he’d anticipated.
Bent on saving his life, she throws him headlong into the world he’s been running from for years. A world in which curses are a thing, demons play cards for your soul and kill or be killed is his safest bet.
Before this book, the only vampires and werewolves I communed with were those of Twilight. After this book, I now know what I was missing in this genre! Vampires, werewolves, and humans - with a healthy smattering of Fae, demons, and hybrids. The world-building in this story is magnificent, the stories of each character enthralling.
As this story begins, the immediate mystery shrouded in vagueness keeps you guessing about Raziel, Holly, Valor, and those closest to them. Once the pieces begin falling into place, your mind will be blown with plot twist after plot twist, stakes rising ever higher, and secrets revealed. You'll feel the real concern whether Ray, a man who once only wanted to die, can now survive this supernatural world he's been thrown into and fulfill his fate.
There's a levity brought in to the depths of this story with the delightfully witty banter the author weaves throughout. Not only between Ray and Holly, but amongst so many of the characters. I found myself laughing out loud so often at the most unexpected times.
Sacrilege sets the stage of a magnificent and unique supernatural world that pulls you in and pushes you on to the next book in the series to see what happens next!
I really loved the world building of this story and how easy it was to envision. It's gritty and I love the smart-a**ed wit of pretty much every character. The dialogue was top notch and really where the story shined. It breathed fresh life into a vampire drauma by flipping the overdone gender roles and presenting a vulnerable yet masculine male lead. The political scheming was great and the subtle ways this vampire culture mirrored our own with societal cues and a diverse cast of personality types was wonderful. The spicy scenes were well done without falling into the trap other similar stories do where the spice drives the plot. This book stands on it's own and stands appart from others in an oversaturated vampire romance genre.
Vampires, fae, demons, and danger! This gritty urban fantasy features twists and turns, lush descriptions, and a diverse cast of supernatural characters that deliver one-liners and witty banter enough to offset often devastatingly high stakes.
We follow Raziel Claskey and the mysterious Holly, but it's the rich array of secondary characters that breathe life into the tapestry woven by the author. A good book leaves you hungry for more, and I'm ravenous! I can't wait for the next one.
Great book! If you are into modern vampire stories, you'll like this. The vamps are much more traditional than Twilight but the setting is a lot more modern than Serpent and the Wings of Night. Vibes are similar to Crowns of Nyaxia in that it feels dark and grungy, which is exactly what I've come to expect from a vampire tale. World building was good and easy to follow. You learn the politics of everything as you go so theres no mass information overload. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be reading the next one!
This book completely blew me away. The prose is gorgeous, the story is engaging and different, and the characters are so loveable. I love the unique vampire aspects, some of these vampire traits I had never seen done before. Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys reading, this book is fantastic.
I was immediately engrossed in this story. The characters, despite there being a lot of them, are so relatable and fleshed out, it was impossible not to love them all (except Ira, fuck him to the moon and back and not in a good way)
