The aftermath of Nuclear War covered the planet like a blanket of death. Man turned on man in a desperate attempt to survive. Livestock and crops died as temperatures plummeted. This is just the beginning of how the world ends.
The living will envy the dead.
Nobody was prepared, including the world’s governments. The damage to humanity through loss of life was predictable, yet unfathomable. As nuclear winter spread across the globe, a rapidly cooling climate shocked humanity and many living things to their death.
Nuclear Armageddon had become reality and ordinary people were paying the price. In a world without power, the exchange of information was virtually non-existent. A battle for resources was waged, pitting friend against friend and friend against foe.
For the Bartlett family, their days on Swan’s Island were untenable. They had the means to move on but could not as they waited for two family members may be thousands of miles away.
The family held out hope for their loved ones to return. All the while, they were forced to hold their ground against those who’d threaten their very existence. For, in the aftermath of Nuclear Armageddon, the desperate become dangerous. The docile become deadly. The moral among us become murderers.

I was really hoping there'd be more descriptions of the country on fire from nukes. Its like world war 3 happened and we're stuck on an island. I kept finding myself wanting this family to get to mainland and the craziness there. Just a little unsatisfied... But I will continue this series none the less because I love Akart's writing. I just hope it gets more action packed. And can someone please use a swear word? I'd use alot if the world were ending!
Hundreds of nuclear weapons had rained down on the U.S. Fires are spreading out from the blast sites, covering the whole country. Smoke containing radioactive particles and minute debris blanket the sky. Europe had not been spared. US military bases across the world had been treated to annihilation. European capitals and strategic military sites were radioactive rubble. Who had started it didn't matter. Russia, North Korea and China had all taken the opportunity to destroy America and its allies across the world. American missiles had flown in retaliation. What damage was inflicted on our enemies was unknown. Submarines and strategic bombers loaded with hundreds more missiles were positioning for retaliation. Survivors on the northern coast of Maine were hanging on. On Swan Island, home of lobster fishermen for several generations, were beginning to feel the approach of starvation. The Bartletts had run the co-op for many years and their freezers were loaded with the combined catches of all the fisherman. Billy Bartlett and his sons and crew had been far off the coast fishing when the bombs fell. Their boat was far enough off the coast that they were safe from the EMP effects of the nuclear explosions and had the only working fishing boat left on Swan Island. Tammy and the rest of the Bartlett family were safe so far, but the fires were approaching the shores and sparks ignited some of the nearer islands. Swan Island hadn't had more than smoke so far. But maybe not much longer. Hunger was becoming the chief problem and the fishermen and families were clamoring for their share of the catches kept in the co-op freezers. Tammy knew that as soon as they cracked the doors, the catch would begin to thaw and would quickly spoil. But it had to happen soon. Few people on the island had more than a few days food on hand and starvation would begin soon. Crime would quickly follow on hunger. Abby and Daniel Murphy were honeymoon in Europe when the bombs fell. They made their way from Switzerland to France, aiming to take the Chunnel to England and catch a boat to Canada where they could make it back to Swan Island and their family. Abby Bartlett and Daniel Murphy had just been married and were desperate to get home. But Europe is also in flames where Russia hadn't spared the capitals and military bases of American Allies. The world is in flames, the choking smoke blocking the sun. Debris from the bombs was thrown high into the atmosphere and reflected the sunlight away from the planet. Life in the aftermath of nuclear warfare is going to be extremely difficult as the shield of smoke and ash covers the skies, cooling the surface on the way to a new ice age as nuclear winter settles in. Great characters and a horribly terrifying storyline make this a great read! I just pray that this story doesn't become prophetic!
Aftermath 3 is the chilling 3rd installment of Akart's well researched and well written series about the realities of surviving post nuclear war. The well researched nature of the series and included contemporary news stories makes the series all the more believable and frightening. In book 3, the worst of human nature starts rearing its ugly head, forcing the Bartletts to make some painful choices and Abby and Dan find themselves in the greatest danger to date. You will want to have some time on your hands when you start Aftermath 3, you won't be able to put it down.
I really like Bobby’s books but he seems to be following a formula now. I struggled to get through this one. Too much emphasis on man’s inhumanity to man. I want to see more of people helping other people as he had in book 2 of this series. Maybe I’m being unrealistic but I’d like to believe in the goodness of men not the baseness of them. Also this is the second series where he has used a certain nationality as the villains and it’s beginning to feel like a stereotype. Of course I will finish the series but and disappointed in the direction his writing is headed.
The Bartlett family on Swan Island works to stay together and survive after the nuclear holocaust. With things deteriorating on the island, the Bartletts decide to leave and head south.
Abbie and Daniel manage to stowaway on a freighter bound for Canada in an attempt to get home. They barely manage to stay hidden, and shelling from a Russian naval vessel allows them to escape their captors and stay hidden.
The book is exciting with the strength of family leading the way. The book is entertaining and enjoyable.
Aftermath Book 3 is a nonstop, riveting book. I was, honestly, on the edge of my seat the whole time. I could have sat down and not stopped reading it until I was done. When I was not reading, I was looking forward to the chance, I might be able to squeeze in a chapter or two. I can not wait for the story to continue. The Bartlett Family is the best and their struggles are heart wrenching. This series is amazing.
Well, I've read every one of Alerts books and series and most have been excellent.... But there is just something about this series that does not rank it as highly as all the others...... Its taken me a week to read this book where I usually read one of his books in one day, two at most. This one is just not so interesting, although I'll finish the series when it is available
As the days pass after the nuclear apocalypse people are beginning to break-in and rob others and fires are getting closer. The Bartlett's have made the hardest decision of their lives, leaving their home and their beloved Swan Lake to find a safer refuge. The decision is especially hard as their daughter and sister is still not home. Meanwhile Abbie and her husband Daniel are in serious trouble after stowing away on a ship heading to Canada and are being hunted by evil men.
I've just finished reading book three, ending at the middle point of the story. Yet it does not read as a "filler" book in the series. It has the continuous, suspenseful drama that keep a reader turning the page. If you're looking over the series, wondering if you should dive into the six books of action, despair and hope... Jump in with both feet first. You won't regret it.
An excellent, detailed description of a post nuclear war world. He has good character development and usage. The story flowed easily back and forth between two locations. I have enjoyed reading several of his books. I found this book to be as good as all the others. I'm anxiously waiting for next three books of this series to be published.
The hostilities escalate from both international enemies and frightened survivors. Even nature escalates her frenzy with falling temperatures, out of control fires, deteriorating air quality and the inevitable nuclear fallout contamination. The question is not where to go for safety, but rather is anyplace "safe" any longer?
Bobby is a master at weaving a grand tail. This third installment live up to his reputation as a careful researcher and a teller of great tales. The challenges all the characters confront feel real and appropriately suspenseful . I look forward to the next episode.
Reality sets in on Swan Island as the residents and visitors realize no help is coming and resources are scarce. Fires are raging out of control in every direction from each bomb site. The Murphy's are stranded in France and England is nothing but ash. Gripping.
I am loving the characters in this series. The action has been pretty much non-stop (can't give away the story-line...but Wow)! Going to download book 4 now! Started book 3 yesterday evening, and could not wait to finish it up today *after pesky house-work and standing gym appointment*.
Couldn't believe how people can kill others for the first time and not be traumatised by the experience . Dialogue was boring, just couldn't get into it. First two books were ok and parts were interesting about the war build up. Left this one at 36% and won't continue the series. The books have a very high rating, so looks like I'm in the minority!
Readers once again will be entertained by a duo of stories. The interruption of a European honeymoon is 1 of the stories That is balanced by Family left behind In edit
Book Review: “Aftermath Book 3” by Bobby Akart Some of you may have read the 1957 novel “On the Beach” written by British author Nevil Shute after he emigrated to Australia. It deals with the aftermath of WW III and Bobby Akart’s novel reminds me of it. This is a great series, and I am looking forward to Book 4.
Hats off to Bobby (after reading his books I feel we are on a first name basis) for entertaining us while opening our eyes to the danger of unhinged politicians, the greedy military - industrial complex, and most importantly the unprepared.
The series has reached a slightly draggy phase. It is well written. But I didn’t feel “edge of my seat” invested. I will continue to the next sequel and see if some progress is made. I believe we are still in the first week of the catastrophe.
Another solid installment of the adventure. Akart continues to grow the characters and limits their “why in the world would someone do that moments”. Brings in a couple of new and interesting characters that keep the story fresh. Look forward to the next.
As always Akart’s has his finger on what could very possibly happen. Frightening for sure. But the books are filled with everyday characters we can’t help cheering for. Definitely recommend this series!
Life becomes more dangerous on the island both from internal & external threats. While across the Atlantic, the honeymoon couple search for a means to reach the Americas. Bobby dangles danger expertly.
