The start of World War 3? Looks that way. If we let our imagination just believe, we can see this happening. The author's style of writing is a slow buildup. We can feel the drama draw us in and keeps us turning the pages to see what's going to happen next. A few places were a tad slow but that's fine. It lets us absorbed the plot and makes us think. Definitely recommend the book and the series.

I love how Bobby Akart seems to get inside the head of World Leaders. I know this is fiction, but it is so well done and researched, you feel like this is exactly what they are thinking. I am praying this stays fiction.
The Bartlett family, may be my favorite family he has written about. They are tough as nails, yet genuinely loving and so human.
This book grips you from the beginning, grabs your heart, and takes you on the best emotional roller coaster, ever.
If you have never read a Bobby Akart book, this is a great series to begin with. You will have discovered a new favorite author.

I kept telling myself just one more chapter....but I couldn't put this book down. The real world news excerpts give the reader a look into how this could become our reality. I cannot wait for book three! This is my first series by this author and I am hooked!

A North Korean test of a hypersonic missile flew into the middle of the United States.

Unlike
I've read every one of Akart books, series and stand-alone novels and enjoyed them all.........BUT.....
This one is UNLIKE all the others....its the only one I rated less than 4 or 5.....its the only one I'm not anxious for the next in the series to come out.
This is the only one that I didn't mind putting down and coming back to it later.
This is the only one in which I did not find the main characters likeable, not sure why exactly but this family is not likeable.
I WILL read the next book in the series if only in hopes that I enjoy it more.
The only thing I have disliked in all previous books is the use of profanity which adds nothing to the story.....and when an F.... bomb pops up it just distracts from the story, especially when the women seem to curse as much as the men........none of it is beneficial to the story.
Here's hoping the next ones restore my appreciation for Akart books

Because OF COURSE Abbie and Daniel are on another country and the family is all over the place when the war happens. I don't know why I hoped the newlyweds would be back from their honeymoon travels; no WAY would Bobby Akart let that happen.
As per usual, he's putting everybody through it and I was waiting for the worst. It was rough popping through three different areas, hoping everyone can make it through the next wave (in some cases, literally) to get home. It was also fascinating seeing my old stomping grounds from time in Europe through Abbie & Daniel's eyes. I don't know if my blood pressure can take book three - but I'm sure going to try. I have to know what happens next!!!

I don't understand all the positive reviews. The first book was spent almost entirely on a long, slow introduction of the characters. The pace definitely picked up after the bombs fell,but the sugar rush didn't last long. In this volume, I find I don't care about what happens most of the characters, and the ones in Europe (I don't even remember their names) come off as being so stupid that I actually want bad things to happen to them.
The vast majority of what I read are post-apocalyptic books, including a number of Akart's other very good series. This one falls flat. When I'm left with nobody to root for, and don't care what happens next, it's time to abandon the series. I'm off to better things...

Storyline a bit weak in emotion
Our family seems resourceful , and very lucky to find themselves together again, except for the Honeymooners who have to manage in Europe. Captain Billy has a boat that is running…and bypasses all the other boats and crew that are faced with dead engines and power…..leaving known ships isolated. That seems unfriendly and inhumane.
The honeymooners recognize they are in a precarious position and manage to kill a few bikers as they struggle to escape in the night. The assumption they made was that the bikers were bad people. Not clear how they worked that info out.
Story gaps left the reader with little sympathy as situations unfolded. The world has just ended and yet some areas appear unscathed. It’s confusing.

The war continues...
Aftermath is about more than a nuclear war. It is about the war of survival. Focusing on a single family, there are a lot of viewpoints offered to see the new world emerging as the old crumbles. The author uses this method well. Just as you start to internally complain about the switch, you come to another that you cannot miss due to either the individual or the circumstances, or both. Yet the story progresses much more smoothly than you might expect.
You don't have to be an Akart fan to appreciate this captivating read, but you probably will be one before the series ends.

Meticulously researched and chilling.
Aftermath 2 is the 2nd book in the technothriller in which AI and incompetence combine to create a Mutual Assured Destruction scenario globally. Made even more startling by the current news included in the prologue, Aftermath 2 picks up immediately where book 1 leaves off, right after the bombs start falling. This might be the most frightening fiction series I've read. And it still hasn't hit the fan fully yet. Awaiting book 3 will be excruciating...

Great characters and a thought provoking storyline. As always, Bobby Akart weaves a tale of constantly tweaking the reader's interest with new twists and turns.
Character development brings the reader a growing appreciation of the individual's and their personalities. The "armageddon" scenario also saddles the characters with ever more challenges, maintaining the intensity. Akart research and attention to detail make the story all the more exciting.

an excellent science fiction book, a must read
This is a fabulous sci-fi thriller. It is like reading fiction right from the headlines of today. This is one of those books that you start reading and cannot put down. I am excited to get the next book in this series. This author has a balanced view of the uncertainty we are facing in our world today. he has brilliantly woven the uncertainty of today with fiction, thriller, and science fiction into a masterpiece. Read this book, and you will not regret it.

Atermath is a must read series
Just finished binge reading the first 2 books in the series which left me on the edge of my seat In anticipation of the remaining books. This is the most realistic book in this genre that I’ve read. It’s frightening given that the facts leading up to the war are so closely aligned with current events. Extremely well written! Looking forward to checking out so of the other works from Bobby Akart.

BLOCKBUSTER READ!
Loved this second book in the series!
Full of angst, action, drama and determination, this book held my attention all the way through…which begs the question, “What if?”. Then my next question was, “When?”
Realistic scenarios, people’s perceptions and motives plus the will to survive amongst impossible odds just add to the dynamics of Bobby Akart’s novels.
This series is off the charts GOOD!

good story, but unnecessary filler
I would recommend, in this series, skipping the first book entirely as it’s mostly fluff about the various characters that doesn’t have much to the story. Book 2 as much better, moves, along to nuclear bombs, dropping, and people figuring out how to survive. But even in book 2, Chapters are wasted on individual one on one fights that are not included for any reason other than to puff up the page count.

AGood Read
Part 2 picks up right where 1 ended and does not slow down. The main characters have been set now for foreseeable future, although there were a few do the first book I’d like to see return. Only compliant is the reader is a bit in the dark regarding the whole worldwide situation. Look forward to reading 3!

A much better book than the first in the series. The action ramps up and the scope of the danger is deep and varied. The characters are well done for this kind of story and I think this should have been combined with the first book with introductions made more streamlined. All in a all, a well done book and I am moving directly into the next.

I knew I should've waited until this series was finished before starting. This is all too plausible. I don't know how to wait until next year for book 6. Hurry up! The suspense is dangerous for my health.

Bobby Akart does not disappoint. This will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting breathless for the next shoe to drop or for the hero in the chapter to prevail. One can only hope nuclear war never happens. No one is the winner. There are only losers.
