Was any part of the world spared from the aftermath of Nuclear War? As Nuclear Winter wrapped its gloomy arms around the planet, man experienced a state of anguished misery and desolation. Was there an oasis? A place of refuge? Could they get there? Remember, the aftermath, nuclear winter, took no prisoners.
The living will envy the dead.
Nuclear fallout wrapped the planet in a blanket of soot, blocking the sun's rays, wreaking havoc on the atmosphere. The planet was plunged into a deep chill that would last for years. Plants withered. Animals died. Famine exacted its toll on the human population. From the initial firestorm and the spread of smoke to the destruction of the Earth's ecosystem.
The damage was incalculable. Millions died at the points of impact. Nuclear Winter spread across the globe. A rapidly cooling climate shocked humanity and all living things ... to their death. Yet, there was a place to survive, if you could survive the impossible journey across the open seas.
In less than an hour, nuclear warheads detonated across the Northern Hemisphere from the Far East to Russia to Europe to the United States. Human life as once existed was changed forever as the aftermath yields the expected result of a nuclear war scenario. The gates of hell have been thrust open and ordinary citizens pay the price as they discover nuclear war may kill millions but the aftermath, nuclear winter, will kill billions.
The Bartlett family had to make an incomprehensible decision. The age old question, should we stay or should we go? The answer lay many thousands of miles from home on the opposite side of the Earth. The journey was filled with perils and the last port of call may not be as welcoming as they hoped.
Aftermath is a gripping technothriller that explores the dangers of unchecked technological advancement and the profound implications of placing too much reliance on artificial intelligence. It prompts the reader to ask, “With AI, are we summoning the demon and giving it control?”
International bestselling author, Bobby Akart, one of America's favorite storytellers, delivers up-all-night thrillers to readers in 245 countries and territories worldwide. He's achieved Amazon Top 5 Author status in both fiction and non-fiction genres, Amazon Kindle All Star and Top 50 Amazon Author (#35) and Top 25 Best Selling Book on Amazon Charts (Yellowstone #25). "He's right up there with James Patterson, David Baldacci, Brad Thor and others that write thrillers. To me he actually surpasses them.” He has written more than 80 novels in the disaster, survival, medical and political thriller genres.
Another incredible addition to the Aftermath series. If you find yourself angry when the King of Cliffhangers throws one into a series, do yourself (and your blood pressure) a favor and wait til you can read everything in one fell swoop. Akart REALLY got me with the ending of Aftermath 4.
Readers are introduced to a new character, and then some - a situation creates a need for a new president, and watching him deal with the cards he's dealt is fascinating. If you're a fan of Sarge from Akart's Boston Brahmin series, you'll probably develop an afinity for this guy as well. His new cabinet? This should be fun to watch... well, read. Smart guy and I'm cheering him on.
Not a spoiler to say that the Bartletts reunite, because most readers will assume that's where the plot was going in book three. The author just had to run a bunch of them through the wringer first. (And yes, yes, he did.) Just because they are back together doesn't mean it's all smooth sailing, though - which takes us to the cliffhanger. Because of COURSE these people can't catch a break when Bobby Akart is writing their world. LOL I had to stop and catch my breath with this one, though - YIKES!
As is probably obvious, I can hardly wait for Aftermath 5. I've *got* to know what happens next.
The Bartletts leave Maine headed south. Next stop Argentina.
The Bartletts are making their way south on their fishing trawler intending to find a new home in South America. They're hoping that Daniel and Abbie catch up with them soon. The newlyweds are just a few days behind them as they've returned to North America from their honeymoon in Switzerland. Just 2 weeks since America was severely damaged by hundreds of nuclear weapons exploded from north to south and shore to shore. The air is filled with dust, dirt, debris and fallout. The very atmosphere is hazardous to your health. Travelling, where possible, is also dangerous as the evil nature is brought out in mankind. Pirates and highwaymen are more numerous than good Samaritans.
Although North Korea launched the first ICBM aimed at the US, it was a mistake. But before it could be called back, the American AI in charge of retaliation had emptied its silos, prompting Russia and China to unload their stockpiles on the American properties. The entire Northern Hemisphere is in store for nuclear winter. The Bartletts are wise to aim their future at the Southern Hemisphere. But they aren't alone in that decision!
The Bartlett family are great characters. Wise decision makers and strongly loyal to their kin, they bring the best ideas to an uncertain future. Caught in a storyline that I hope is a little less prophetic than some of the author's writings, the master storyteller weaves some of his best work. This is a great read!
The Bartlett family continues to struggle with the aftermath of nuclear conflict, with the Dixie Bull heading south in search of more favorable conditions in which to survive and Dan and Abby still trapped on the freighter they snuck into to cross the Atlantic and get closer to home. China is amping up its aggression, which leaves the book ending on another cliffhanger. Aftermath 4 includes contemporary news articles, showing just how possible this scenario is, making it all the more chilling. 5/5 stars, highly recommended for any audience!!!
I liked this continuation better than book 3. I like when there's more story about what's going on in America and how its rebuilding as well. There was a good balance of family survival and country wide/global information. I love when Akart adds facts and recent news in the foreword. This is a good read and I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series! If you like post apocalyptic genre books based in NYC try Burning Bridges! Now that's a good book.
Worth the read, yet assumes survival under such conditions is worth the compromises to conscience required. Although I am far from a passivist, I question whether these are the requisite decisions.
You see, war only kills soldiers and the not so innocent supporting populace along with those dissenters, who aren’t consumed enough to alter their course. Still, while typical of the dystopian genre, a good read.
The Bartlett's are on their way to South America hoping that Abbie and Daniel make it to Swan Lake, learn the plan and head out after them. On their separate journeys the Bartlett's, Abbie and Daniel have seen the results of the war and the evil nature of some fellow survivors. Meanwhile the US and Russian governments have agreed to cease hostilities while China is ramping up future attacks. After that cliffhanger ending I'm really pumped up for the next book.
Daniel and Abbie have overcome nearly impossible odds to return to North America from Switzerland. Now they must find a way to get to Swans Island. In the meantime, the rest of the Bartlett family have left the island and headed for South America to try and survive the coming nuclear winter. The new President is trying to broker peace and has reached a verbal stay from Russia but China seems intent on escalating.
This 4th book finally has gotten a little bit more interesting than the first three books. I've read all of Akarts books and this series just doesn't compare to all the others that I thought were really good. This book finally started getting better when the new president made an appearance. The chapters he is in have greatly improved the book.
Keeps you on the edge of your seats waiting to find out what happens next. The only thing that bothered me in reading this, is that no one commented on Abbie's stitches on her forehead. I would think that at the very least there would be some remark about it. It was a big deal and then seemed to be forgotten about. Just struck me as strange. Can't wait for the next installment.
Loving the characters, multiple viewpoints, pacing and action. The political stuff is interesting, even to someone who abhors the ridiculous plans of those who do not support all human life.
He chose one heck of a place to drop the end of four, but it does have me rushing to grab five. ☺
Again Bobby Akart brings us a book with intense drama, true to life adventure and problems, and all in his unique writing style that you can’t put down or wait for the next book!!
Talk about enemies And where they come from This book will not disappoint you! Not only that It will leave you with a huge Cliffhanger. Of course this means that we will have to wait And see what demons must be faced next
As normal for Smart books it is always interesting. The characters are well thought out. Occasionally he does go a tad outside the bounds of reality a bit. But his books are always good reads.
This is Book 4 in the series of 6. As I thought, it’s getting thin on story. There is a lot of great plot for these. Each could be a series of 2-3. I almost wish it were that way. However, Bobby Akart does have a good imagination and they are worth reading.
Massive fires stoked by the numerous nuclear bomb explosions spread throughout the affected areas. Our disrupted family took to the water to avoid the danger of both conflagration and human predators. Would the two arms of the family reunite?

I'm going to start waiting till all the books are out before I start reading. The stress of waiting till the next book is real! I have to know the end!! Great book, highly recommend.
Like all of his stories the reader is drawn in to the characters who never fail to come alive. This book, like those before is thrilling and suspenseful.
Bobby Akart, did it again. This whole series should be required reading for all politicians, not just here but worldwide. Aftermath 4 is so unbelievably good. My heart raced, so many times. I wanted to flip ahead to see what happens in so many scenes, but I did not. I cried, I laughed, I got mad, I cheered, and at the end my eyes grew wide, my mouth dropped open, and…..
