I usually steer clear of novellas. But the cover and synopsis of Truth or Dare by Sloan Johnson caught my eye. And I'm so glad it did. Lea and Colby are best friends and roommates. Everything seems great, except Lea's in love with Colby and he just thinks of her as a friend...or so it would seem.
Can you imagine? You're in love with your bff AND you live with him AND you can't tell him?? Well yes, I can imagine....that was me once...sort of. I at least put 3,000 miles between us. Of course that eventually got sorted and we've been married for 15 years. Loving your best friend is hard. HARD I tell ya. You have to fake staring, longingly. You have to pretend you don't mind when they date other people. You have to pretend...all the time. It's tiring and sad and just HARD!
I enjoyed the set up the story and I think there's some amazing potential here. Though being just a novella it's hard to sink your teeth in and become emotionally invested. Everything is still new and you can't rush laying the foundation. That would be my only issue here. The story does feel a tiny bit rushed and I get it, I just don't like it. I wanted to explore more of the characters background. That way I could connect better. I'm assuming there's more to come with Lea and Colby's story. I can't imagine it would just end the way it did. Gee, I hope not...
I've been wanting to read something from this author for a while now. I'm glad I finally got an opportunity. I'll definitely be back for more.
