Tales from a perfectly imperfect life

Known and loved by her many New Zealand and Australian fans as a down-to-earth broadcaster, radio host and social media sensation, Bree Tomasel is an irrepressible force of nature.

But behind the banter and success, is a young woman who has battled anxiety and survived a harrowing attack on her as a young child.

Now, for the first time, Bree writes about how that attack has shaped her, as well what it was like to grow up questioning her sexuality in conservative country Queensland, her struggles with anxiety and ADHD, and living in the public eye.

Funny, candid, raw - this is Bree Tomasel as you've never seen her.

I first came across Bree on social media with her videos with Mumma Di saying “ohhhh Brianna”. These videos would bring so much laughter.

Reading Bree’s book gave deep insight, honesty into the life she has had growing up, trauma, health and mental health issues and the struggles she faced about coming out to a family that had religious values.

Our radio career of being undervalued as a female, than making the decision to head over to NZ to chase her dream.

I hadn’t even heard of Bree until Taskmaster NZ and now I wish I’d stumbled upon her sooner!

This was equal parts funny, candid, and touching. The topics of ADHD and chosen family/queerness were particular stand outs to me.

I highly recommend the audiobook as Bree herself reads it; it’s like having a chat with a mate.

Bree Tomasel is commonly known for her job as a radio host and also her hilarious videos on social media.

To me, Bree is almost like a friend. We have a very similar sense of humor and have gone through a lot of similar life experiences. I first discovered Bree on social media and happened to hear her on the radio when I went to NZ for my sister's wedding back in 2019, and since then I have always listened by streaming radio live or listen to the podcast at night.

I remember when Covid 19 hit, Bree spoke on the radio about how the challenging times with Covid lock downs were affecting her (All her family are in Australia) and I really resonated with that as all mines are in NZ,not being able to travel and see them was SO hard. I remember messaging Bree to thank her for speaking up and to see if she was ok, and from there we kind of struck up a little friendship.

I was SO happy when Bree's book arrived, as it was a birthday present to myself AND I managed to score a signed copy!!

Bree's book is one of a kind, it takes you on an emotional journey filled with highs and lows, it's raw and honest but in true Bree fashion a few laughs along the way!! I bawled my eyes out in some parts and laughed (very loud) in others. Especially the part about the gift from God (I even messaged Bree at the time of reading to tell her how hilarious that part was)

I was so addicted, I could not put it down (I only started it yesterday, finished it tonight)

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan or Bree or would love to know more about her story! She is a truly strong and inspiring woman! She should be so proud of herself; I know I am of her.

5 stars is truly not enough!! I encourage anyone to read this, you won't regret it :)

Because the very awesome Bree gifted me her book last week, as soon as it arrived I had to make it a priority to read ASAP. the introduction alone made me not want to put it down I read this in one sitting of 3 and a half hours(it has nothing to do with the length of the book, it snapped my attention and I almost forgot to feed my kids) Now being honest I'm not a biography reader I can count how many I've read this year on my fingers(yes out of 273 books read this year, less than 10 are not about dragons, fae, romance or serial killers) because i have been listening to bree and clint on air for the past 3 years as soon as I began reading I had the pleasurable voice of bree in my ear reading this to me. Saying this book is "just collection of stories" is like saying the king is just as common as his neighbour Jim. This book bought back memories and emotions I had growing up with anxiety and being categorized as un-social because I would rather sit in the corner and read a book. I was a nerd and a teachers pet, I was a know it all and that would sometimes get me bullied and made fun of. Bree covers everything from bullying, PTSD, and finding yourself as a person in a range of relationships and scenarios. I can guarantee that everyone who reads this book will find something in it relatable to them as a reader. We may hear Bree on the daily radio or see her on TV she is a well known nz/Aus celebrity but most importantly she is a person who has overcome so much in her 34 years. Bree your book didn't need a damsel in distress or a plot twist and a cliff hanger to keep the book enjoyable. You bring the funny, the trauma, the pride and emotion of being who you are as a person. You are the dragon every book needs.

I have to say, it's not often that I pick up an autobiography or memoir. But when I do, it's usually because I'm genuinely interested in the person, and Bree absolutely fits that bill. I often listen to her on the radio and catch her on TV, and I can't help but adore her. She's so funny, refreshingly honest, and incredibly down to earth.
What I especially loved about this book was that Bree narrated it herself. Hearing her story in her own voice added an intimate layer that made the experience even more enjoyable for me. As I listened, I felt like I was having a conversation with a friend. I appreciated how she opened up about various parts of her life, from her early days and discovering her sexuality to the challenges she faced, including a traumatic event and the impact of anxiety on her life.
One of the most intriguing parts for me was Bree's discussion about her ADHD diagnosis. It resonated deeply, and I found myself reflecting on my own experiences. I swear, I need to get this checked out for myself! It was enlightening to hear someone else's journey with it, especially from someone I admire.
The book’s structure was well thought out and flowed remarkably well. Bree took me on a journey through her life, sharing insights into her health issues, her time in radio, her experience as a TV host and talking about having kids. I appreciated how she talked about her mental breakdowns. It seems to be happening more and more these days and I love it. It makes us feel like we aren’t alone.
This was a fantastic listen, and I loved every moment of it. It's a testament to Bree's resilience and humor, and it left me inspired to embrace my own journey. If you’re looking for a memoir that is both heartfelt and entertaining, I couldn’t recommend this more!

★★★★★ Absolutely Phenomenal! A Must-Read!

Bree Tomasel's "Unapologetically Me" is a powerful and deeply moving memoir that resonated with me on a profound level, particularly her story of coming out. As someone who also grew up gay, I found her experiences incredibly relatable and validating. It felt like finally seeing my own struggles and triumphs reflected in someone else's story.

What made this experience even more impactful was listening to the audiobook, narrated by Bree herself. Hearing her own voice tell her story added an extra layer of authenticity and emotion. It felt like she was speaking directly to me, sharing her most intimate thoughts and feelings. The rawness and vulnerability in her voice made the story even more compelling.

"Unapologetically Me" is more than just a coming-out story; it's a story about self-discovery, acceptance, and the courage to live your truth. Bree's honesty and vulnerability are truly inspiring. This book is a gift to anyone who has ever felt different or struggled to find their place in the world. I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a must-read (or must-listen!) for everyone.

This is a great memoir by the beloved radio host and TV presenter. It has everything - the dramatic knife-point robbery, her long and arduous journey through embracing her queerness, her journey through getting an ADHD diagnosis, her mental breakdowns and her health anxiety, her radio and TV presenting career. The book takes you through it all with a huge dose of humour, resilience and courage needed to get through such adversities.

Great read for anyone who is a fan. Highly recommend the audiobook that she narrates herself so it's just like listening to a friend tell you her life story.

Oh Bree!! I’m so proud of that girl that I would listen to daily on my Central Coast radio. I loved listening to you each day and I was chuffed to have the honour of meeting you and Gawndy at the local beery one night and have a photo with you! It sat proudly as my FB profile pic for many months.

You should be so proud of yourself, this book and for being unapologetically you! I devoured it in two days and loved getting to know you.

I look forward to what’s next in your crazy world and continue to cheer you on from the Central Coast!

My first non-fiction read of 2025 and I loved it so much! Bree's story was so raw but so beautiful and honest. I've been a big fan of Bree for a while now and I'm so fortunate that @allenandunwinnz gifted me a copy of her book to read 🫶🏻. As someone who deals with a lot of anxiety, it was such an important read and made all of my feelings feel valid. This book will make you laugh and cry. Definitely pick it up if you get the chance!

Very easy read was able to finish it in a day. It was a solid book, I appreciate her being so raw with her mental health, being gay and suffering trauma, she did it in a way that showed it was ok, yeah she had been through this stuff and it had negatively affected her but she’s learning to deal with it and is fitting it into her life. It was real and I think a lot of people could relate to some part of her book.

From fragile to amazing strength!

Wow Bree. This book came up in my insta. Had to read it. Because I know your mum and dad and you played soccer with my son in Stanthorpe, I really resonated with this story. You are incredible! Loved your honesty, fragility and most of all your strength. Hope your baby wishes become a reality. This book was absolutely amazing. Well done Bree.

This is one of the best books I have ever read! It’s funny, sad, raw and honest. Bree has overcome so much and is incredibly brave for sharing her story. If I could give this book infinite stars, I would! I read most of it in one sitting, if work hadn’t got in the way, I would’ve finished this in a day. Could not put it down

Bree Tomasel is an icon. And I don't think she has any idea!
This book was full of humor and sincerity.
Tomasel tells her story, filling in gaps that will shock you. She has some great light moments but doesn't shy away from serious topics.
10/10 I really enjoyed listening to this with my husband as we are both big fans!

Smoothly written story of Bree's life to now from being a Catholic kid in rural Australia to being an openly queer radio presenter with ADHD living (mostly) happily in New Zealand. Bree's overcome a few tough patches along the way and her story would inspire many others.
