Remnants Of The Guilty

Rate this book
Dylan St. James is The Fatal Five's most prized possession. The leader's little sister and the most untouchable girl at Stonedge University. She’s the girl all the boys want but can’t have and the girls love to hate. That is, until one night, one race, and everything changed.

Drugged. Beaten. Raped.

They thought they were smart. They thought she wouldn’t remember, but the men who hurt her also walk the same grounds that she does. Day after day, they spew taunts and threats. Thinking they would get away with it. But little did they know, she’s a killer too, and she’s out for revenge. But she can’t do it alone so she tells the only person she trusts.

Easton Daniels. Her brother's best friend. The most lethal of The Fatal Five.

They really thought they could get away with what they did. But they were mistaken. They might have had the jump on me, but nothing could prepare them for what’s to come. They have no idea that touching what didn’t belong to them would cost them their life. She is mine. A part of me, which makes her part of us. The Fatal Five are one. And messing with any of us will have an outcome just as it sounds; Fatal.

What would you do if the one person you trusted the most was hidden in plain sight? Lying to you day in and day out, leaving you with the remnants of the guilty? And once everything implodes, how do you forgive and forget?

Remnants Of The Guilty: The Fatal Five is a MF Dark, Brother’s Best Friend, College-Aged Romance. This does not end with a cliffhanger and is a part of an interconnected standalone series. This book is intended for readers 18 years and older. Please check the author’s website for a full list of content warnings.

ARC REVIEW: Remnants of the Guilty by Ashlynn

PLEASE CHECK TRIGGERS!!!

I absolutely loved this book. I read it within 24 hours because I just could not stop picking it back up to read more. If you love dark romance and don’t mine triggers then please go read this book. She does wonders with plot, smut, and at every turn there’s something new that throws you for a loop. Her plot twists and distractions are a whole nother level, as she likes to say better “Buckle up” because you definitely will be going on a ride.

—-QUOTE—-

“Crawl to me and gag on Daddy’s c**k.”

“You consume me just as much as I yearn daily to consume you, Dylan.”

“I’m more than ready. Let the games begin.”

DYLAN ST. JAMES— Her life is different than most college girls. She has a boyfriend but she yearns for the boy next door. He is also her brothers best friend. She has secrets that no one knows. She goes through a lot and yet she is stronger than anyone realizes especially her big brother. She is his sassy, fierce “Hellcat.”

EASTON DANIELS— He is a dangerous man who has problem getting his hands dirty/ bloody. He is part of The Fatal Five. He will always protect her. He has said an oath to protect but never touch her. He lives next door and he can’t help but play games only with her. She is is best friends little sister and he knows it’s forbidden and yet when things are forbidden they taste so much sweeter. She calls him “Crow.”

They love the little games they play that stay secret and is just for them two. As time goes on one breaks first. Will they make it out of everything alive or will they have to stay away from each other to keep each other safe. The Fatal Five are not allowed to have an ol lady nor hookup with another’s sister especially not the best friend’s little sister. He may have taken an oath to protect her but protecting her means so much more than anyone realizes.

Please check trigger warnings before reading. Now that that’s out of the way, where do I begin. Wheww as soon as this hit my kindle I ran!! From the first page I was HOOKED!! This is a second generation and we still get some of the characters we know and love. Easton…Easton….Easton, I never thought I would love a character as much as I do Jameson but this man is 😮‍💨🥵🥵 Then add in Dylan, these two together are just perfection!! Dylan goes through some really f*cked up stuff and is still such a strong kicka$$ FMC. The spice is 🔥🔥chef’s kiss 🤌🏼🤌🏼, Ashlynn NEVER misses! I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy. A must read, I feel like I did when I read Chaos for the first time. I can’t wait for Bentley and Amy’s book and hoping for a little more of Easton and Dylan

If you've read anything by the legendary Ashlynn, then IYKYK... this story has all the things we love & hate!!!

I absolutely loved reading about the children of my faves from Chaos & Mayhem. And how this is a standalone with no cliffhanger, yet it interconnected with the previous books.

Personal faves is a storyline with violence and spice... and Ashlynn even works in humor... this is my jam!

It releases July 21, 2024... be a good girl and get your read on!

Wow what a book !!! I was completely honest with ashlynn and told her that I couldn't read the mayhem series at this time and she said you don't need to read them to read this story so I was like okay, but jesus Christ I now need to read them !!! If they are anything like this book then I need them in my library, the spice in this book is just off the hook (5 hot peppers) brilliant story line and I loved the extra random chapter in between 🤣🤣 I was like wtf then obviously realised once I got to the end of it 🤣 I absolutely loved that she's used huckta in this book it had me crying! But in all series this is the first time a book has made me put it down and contemplate whether I was picking it back up I was fuming at one point !!!! I can not wait to see if we get more of Dylan and Easton or the next book in the Fatal stories 🖤

finished this one in less than 24 hours lol okay here goes!

first off, let me say that i never want to read the words "hawk tuah" in a book. ever. like never ever again... immediately knocked off a star or 2 tbh because if i wasn't the least bit invested in the plot i would've dnf'd this so fast. also.. "milked my walls"? it unfortunately doesn't work that way (if it does, please explain because i don't get it). lastly - chapter 16? was that an error? because if not i was extremely thrown off and taken out of the story line by that "4th wall break". i'd strongly advise just taking that whole chapter out tbh.

now, all that aside, i did really like the idea of this story and am hopeful that this author will continue to fill in plot holes because it ended quite abruptly and there's good potential here! there's also A LOT of triggers which the author does very well in placing certain warnings in places where they're necessary, which i appreciated.

i'm not sure that i will continue this series, but it was refreshing to finally read a book where the plot wasn't totally lost in the heavy spice, and kept this mood reader adequately entertained for a few hours!

Ehhhh. The smut is definitely there, but the story is confusing at times, especially getting to final chapters. Like…what ever happened to all the guys that ran the train? What about Carter?! Bianca? The Midnight Rider scenes were just confusing to the point of them. Who was the rat? All the kidnappings were confusing. Then the icing was…let’s kidnap the girl for what, the third time, make her and her bf sign a contract to give their first born to a psychopath at 13 years old? Then cut to an Aruba vacation?! WTF

Why is no one talking about the mess of chapter 16? As a reader, we get completely thrown of out the world for the author to make up a weird scenerio that doesn't make sense, written like a child that is writing a 1 page fairytale... and the author finishes the chapter by saying "just kidding" and going back to the story.

After being pulled out of the story, I was very close to DNF'ing, but sped read to finish this. It's a rollercoaster, and not in a good way. Most of the book is filled with moments of
"and then this happened."... it's a series of the craziest events, mostly to hit every tag for dark romance.

I'd be happy to never read "baby" ever again.

There are readers who loved this book, and I'm happy for them. This one just wasn't for me.

Remnants of The Guilty by Ashlynn
(The Fatal Five - Book 1)
Rating: 100/5

“Remnants of the Guilty” by Ashlynn is a gripping dark romance that seamlessly blends elements of suspense, revenge, and passionate love. Set in a high-stakes world, the novel follows Dylan St. James, sister to the leader of the notorious Fatal Five, as she navigates the aftermath of a horrific assault and plots her revenge.

Ashlynn's growth as an author is evident in this work, demonstrating a rare ability to tackle complex themes with sensitivity and depth. The novel's strength lies in its well-crafted characters, particularly Dylan, whose journey from victim to avenger is both compelling and nuanced. Dylan's resilience and fierce loyalty to her friends make her a standout protagonist in the genre.

Easton Daniels, Dylan's brother's best friend and her confidant, serves as an excellent foil and romantic interest. The chemistry between Dylan and Easton is palpable, adding a layer of intensity to their evolving relationship that will satisfy romance readers.

One of the most commendable aspects of the book is Ashlynn's approach to sensitive topics. The author's thoughtful content warnings above chapters and careful handling of triggering subjects demonstrate a deep respect for her readers' wellbeing, setting a positive example for how such themes can be addressed in fiction.

The novel excels in its depiction of the dark underbelly of college life, weaving together elements of cartel activity, fierce loyalty, and the "touch her and die" trope into a cohesive and engrossing narrative.

While the book is undoubtedly intense and deals with heavy themes, Ashlynn manages to balance these elements with moments of tenderness and friendship that provide necessary relief from the darker aspects of the story.

“Remnants of The Guilty” is a must-read for fans of dark romance who appreciate complex characters, intricate plots, and a dash of danger. It successfully incorporates popular tropes like "brother's best friend" while adding fresh twists that keep the reader engaged.

In conclusion, Ashlynn has created a standout novel in the dark romance genre. Her skilful storytelling, character development, and sensitive handling of difficult topics make “Remnants of The Guilty” a compelling read. For those who enjoy their romance with a hefty dose of suspense and revenge, this book is definitely worth picking up. Ashlynn has certainly established herself as an author to watch in this genre.

Soo where to begin LOL. I was hooked into a chokehold from the beginning of the book. Dyaln and Eas are the absolute epitome of perfection. Girl you did the damn thing.

I was sad to see their story end and i already miss Easton, but I hope to see snippets of them in further books!

This book hooked me in front the very first page. Please check TW cause this was definitely a dark read. However, the spice in this story was so good and hot. I’m not sure how many sentences I highlighted just so I can re visit them again in the future 🥵 Dylan and Easton were absolute 🔥 together!!!! I loved this story so much and I can’t wait to visit more of the other characters stories. The plot had so many twists and turns in it that I never even seen them coming, and that made this story all the more better since it wasn’t predictable. I stayed up way too late reading this book all in one setting and I don’t regret it one bit. I highly recommend reading this book! 10/10 read for me.

The forbidden love, the heartbreak, THE SPICE! and let’s not forget about the breadcrumbs with Spade and Jameson! I’m strapped in because I know it’s going to be a bumpy ride in the next one

P. S.- Chapter 16 was hysterical

Ashlynn does it again! Another angst filled dark romance with plenty of action and tons of spice! The second generation of Chaos and Mayhem is just as crazy as the rest of the family. Dylan and Eas are amazing together. Looking forward to more stories about the Fatal Five and those that love them… those that want to destroy them too!

Remnants of the Guilty

Let’s starts with the title. Clue #1.
Easton’s back story clue #2
First use of the “little puppet” clue #3
I’ve hated Jamesons’ dad for a while. Now I can’t stand his life even more.
Ashlynn has again written this book to destroy our reality. Obliterated mine, she has. Now I need to know even more what’s next.
I have never been so immersed in a series like I am with this one. With each new character, who brings a new story, the need to know grows.
I know everyone wants that HEA and hero and blah blah. The reality is not all heros wear capes and most HEA’s are fought for.
So if this if HFN, that just makes me yearn for what’s next.
The plot doesn’t miss a beat. The spice does it job, and if you didn’t like this book, Cinderella is at your local library!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout as an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I don’t even know what I read

I’m seeing reviews saying “plot twists” and “no cliffhanger” if you have the answer to any of the following please share because I’m not reading the duet. The star is for the spicey scenes

What do you mean, I am left with so many questions, I ended up writing so many notes, especially about the timeline. But here’s a few fresh from finishing this book in 24hrs

-first half of book was okay, weird timeline
-WHY was she even dating Carter?
- she “loved” Easton yet cheated on him the moment they finally got together
-I can let her fucking her cousin slide because they aren’t blood related but she went from not being able to move, couldn’t even answer her phone and speak to having sex with her cousin in a 3some with Easton
- also the gang bash and rape left her with no actual injuries? She just drove home and then had Easton spend the night only noticing “bruising” which disappeared within days
-back to her ribs only being broken for a “week” before she was out drinking and cheating
-who let Bianca out of the den (Amy seems sus asf)
-NO ONE questioned the fact that someone had clearly stalked them to video them having sex but only Easton was the bad guy, that whole plot is cringe level stupid
-WHY did she say Easton was teaching her self defence and how to fight if she never did 😂 girl made no damage in any fight yet could bend back a guys head and slit his throat
-she got turned on watching the guy who raped her suck her brothers cock (again she didn’t know at the time but ew)
-where do i even start with the drugging, no explanation just “oh she was drugged, passed out and woke up as his secret weapon” cringe asf and just returned to normal after 😂
-don’t get me started on her mum because whiplash
-Easton mum still married her, they’re all being mind controlled to be that dumb
-Easton suddenly “dreaming” about her being pregnant so soon after the contract?
-what happened to her dad and why would a 40/50 year old man want to be raising kids
-all the cutting when having sex yet what they just stopped bleeding and healed instantly

The fact that "hawk tua" made it into the book not once but TWICE. Immediately no.

I think I got whiplash with the amount of plots that were in this book to the point where half of them weren't even explained by the end of the book.

Every time I finish reading a book by Ashlynn, it feels like my brain went on a dark, twisted rollercoaster ride that only ever ends as abruptly as it started.

I absolutely loved Dylan. She is a total bada** and she is the perfect match for Easton. While Easton is dark, angry, and has a short temper, Dylan is feisty, and daring, and fights for herself even when she’s not sure she’ll win.

The ending was such a tease, but of course- if you’ve read anything by Ashlynn before, you shouldn’t expect anything less.

Dylan and Easton’s story may have “concluded” but the secrets are plentiful. Cannot wait for the next book! 📖

Remnants Of The Guilty holds some slight spoilers for the Kings of Chaos and Mayhem series, but yet gives almost nothing away either.

I couldn't put it down, my god.
Read triggers before reading!!

Hellcat & Crow, man his nickname for her just melts me! 😫🫶
This book had me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns. Easton is TOP TIER!! Dylan is a complete badass who isn't scared to tell people what she's thinking (including her own mum). My jaw dropped to the ground countless times. Then had me screaming & shouting. This is one of the greatest reads I've read in a long time.
I wish this book just kept going. There just wasn't enough story time of them just getting to be together without too much drama.
Its hard to write this review without putting spoilers.

Holy moly so much happened within the book. Definitely want to read your triggers as some things mentioned may be triggering. I freaking loved this book not only do you get plot but you get equal parts of spice! This story takes place 18 years in the future of Kings of Chaos & Mayhem. The fatal five are ruthless brothers (friends) whom have grown up together. Easton gets tasked with protecting and not falling for Dylan who is Bentley’s younger sister. Bentley is the leader of the fatal five. There is so much that happens within the story I don’t want to give anything away

This book!! OK, so I kind of knew what I was getting myself into having read Ashlynn's books before, but these books exceeded my expectations. The darkness, the spice, getting to see my man the carver again. I was not ready for it to be over. This book does have some very triggering content in so please read the tw before you read. What I absolutely live, though, is that the author put a warning at the beginning of chapters with triggering scenes.
All I can say is move over carver because you need to make room for Easton. That man is so fine!! I need more of Dylan and Eastons' story. I have questions, and I need answers.

Really enjoyed this read. Great characters, I loved Easton from the very beginning. Dylan was such a great FMC, I loved her no BS attitude, and they had such great chemistry!

Some parts were hard to read, (as always check TW) and my heart broke for Dylan, and Easton. But I’m so glad they found their way back.

Great plot, great twists too. Didn’t see those coming. I read through it fairly quick, a very spicy read.
