State terrorism to sophisticated intelligence services who "murder by a fall guy" are the general subjects of this book. Analysis of specific assassinations from a counter-intelligence point-of-view include Leon Trotsky, Archbishop Oscar Romero, Ambassador Otto Dubs, Ambassador John Mein, Pope John Paul II, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
1 – TROTSKY The NKVD (the KGB's predecessor) followed Leon Trotsky, looking for opportunity. Recruited assassin Ramon Mercader lured Sylvia Ageloff, Trotsky's former translator and secretary, to Mexico City. There, she contacted Trotsky who asked her to do some temporary secretarial work. Ramon daily drove Sylvia to and picked her up from Trotsky's compound. Ramon gained Trotsky's confidence before assassinating him.
2 – ROMERO Archbishop Oscar Romero’s assassination was blamed on a rightist political leader. However, a FMLN defector described in detail how his organization was responsible. Even after O.A.S. Truth Commission proceedings the true story is unknown.
3 – DUBS Ambassador Otto Dubs was kidnapped and taken to the Kabul Hotel. Within minutes two Soviet police advisors and the top officers of the Afghan police force were on-scene, covering a hotel room without telephone service. A police officer shouted and relayed messages through the keyhole, discovering the kidnappers wanted a prisoner exchange. American attempts to get high level Afghanistan involvement were thwarted, the media scenario played to look like the police were resisting revolutionary activity. The one kidnapper surviving the assault was beaten to death in police custody.
4 – MEIN Two blocks away, on a heavily trafficked, Guatemala City boulevard, the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary organization, waited for Ambassador John Mein's chauffeur-driven car. They blocked the road with a car rented by a French recruited conspirator, Michele Firk. Police tracked her rental to a FAR safehouse. Firk's only option was to put her gun to her head.
5 – JOHN PAUL II Mehmet Ali Agca stood in St. Peter's Square on May 13, 1981, fired two shots into Pope John Paul II. Threatened with being transferred to a common cell full of Catholics he told his story in exchange for segregation. Bechir Selenek, a Turkish fugitive, introduced Agca to three officers of the Bulgarian intelligence service, Durzhavna Sigurnost. They recruited him to assassinate the Pope with their promise of $1.5 million West German marks. He didn't know it at the time but Agca owed his life to the nun who tripped him.
6 – KENNEDY President John F. Kennedy was obsessed with killing Cuba 's Fidel Castro who publicly warned Kennedy to back off. In a presidential speech Kennedy gave a prearranged signal to a CIA recruited assassin, Rolando Cubela, to kill Castro. This nailed both Kennedy coffins. Lee Harvey Oswald was likely recruited in Japan and twenty months later he recanted his defection.
Much controversy surrounds Oswald's shooting ability and the rifle he left behind. Oswald's activities after the assassination are just as perplexing, his killing of police officer J.D. Tippet who was known to visit Jack Ruby's club. Not long after Oswald himself was dead, a "fall guy" at the hands of another assassin.
7 – MLK Both King and President Kennedy's assassinations have very similar KGB/DGI modus operandi. MLK's assassination started after James Earl Ray's prison escape. He fled to Montreal where met Raoul. Meanwhile, MLK met Kennedy, his brother, and Burke Marshall and was told to terminate contact with MLK's close advisor, a high level Communist, Stanley D. Levison.
