Royal librarian Mattin has a habit of overworking himself and forgetting that his heats are approaching. That's annoying but bearable. What is mortifying is that the king and his husband seem to have noticed.
An alternate universe omegaverse-esque novella featuring the characters from A Suitable Consort (For the King and His Husband) an m/m/m romance
I'm R. Cooper, a somewhat absentminded, often distracted, writer of queer romance. I'm probably most known for the Being(s) in Love series and The Suitable 'Verse stories. Also the occasional story about witches or firefighters in love.

A short story that takes place in an alternate reality. It’s like an omegaverse where omegas are called blessed and alphas are called gifted. Mattin is a blessed while Arden and Mil are gifted. The plot is set before Mattin knows that they are in love with him, so basically a re-telling with a few new turns. Something extra if you liked the first book. I know there are a few other stories in this series, I might check them out at some point but right now I’m moving on. This little re-telling was fun though and the cover is definitely a lot easier on the eyes. 😂
*fans herself* .... ohhh so this is what a parallel / alternate universe (=omegaverse) storyline for A Suitable Consort (with smut!) looks like... *fans herself some more*
Superb. Since I loved the first book so much, I was very, very happy to see the same characters and a very similar plot again, with the added twist of omegaverse. It was perfect.
I love R Cooper’s work. They’re an extremely talented writer and I get lost in the worlds they create… but their books are not always steamy. Which is fine! It’s not at all a requirement for my enjoyment. I just say that to then say that THIS, as short as it was, not only had their trademark pining but also some fantastic smexy times. Hellooooo DP lol.
Anyway, a super enjoyable read and definitely worth what I paid for it.
This was a lovely addition to the Suitable universe. I love how R. Cooper writes Omegaverse, and they never actually call it Omegaverse! There's still some lovely pining in here and a but of hot sex. I do wish the heat scene wasn't skipped over. Will totally reread!
This was a fun and passionate alternate telling of the book For the King and His Husband, which I've also read. In this book, like the main book, the characters are developed in unique and detailed ways, which make them so interesting. While the characters behave similarly to the main book, in this one, Mattin is not able to resist forever the call of his own fevers or heats. This book has a ton of heat and a great HEA. Read the main book and then read this one for another take on the story.
I recommend reading A Suitable Consort first, and coming back to this one after. I have enjoyed both, but that's the order I read them in and it makes sense to me.
Mattin is adorable and clueless and PINING for Arden and Mil. And he can't see what we find obvious: they're just as sweet on him.
Happily Ever After ending after a slow burn that takes about a year in-story.
R Cooper is an auto buy author for me and this novella does not disappoint! This is an alternative story line for the characters from A Suitable Consort. While the Fae have influenced the characters in the original story, here we get a version where Mattin is something like an Omega. Well written with plenty of emotion, humor and heat!
I hope R. Cooper's pillow is always the perfect temperature because not only is "A Suitable Consort for the King and His Husband" one of my favourite cosy fantasies and comfort reads. Finding out that an omegaverse fic of it exists, got me out of a depressive episode and was the first book I was able to read in months.
An Omegaverse retelling of the main book. And probably one of the better Omegaverse original fictions I've read (the fact that there IS Omegaverse original fiction is still mind boggling to me).
Not as good as the main book, but then it's not really supposed to be. Still very enjoyable.
An alternate universe retelling of book one, in a shorter novella format. Mattin was still clueless for most of the story, and there was just the one real steamy scene at the end. I was expecting more, to be honest. But it was good for what it was.
I absolutely loved the omegaverse twist. And I loved the original story between these three. But this took it to another level. So hot. So good. Thank you R. Cooper.
This is the same sort of "doesn't realize he's being courted" concept as book 1, and that part is very good. But the part when they actually get together is kind of "meh". I dunno, I lost interest by the end.
A really delightful novella, sadly could only get the less smutty version, (apparently). Such sweet characters, always a joy to read R Coopers stories, they do make me smile.
Oblivious Mattin gets courted by the king and his husband. It's not badly written and you don't have to read the previous ones to understand what's going on but it's definitely a "short."
A very sweet rewrite of the same story😍 I like how it’s shorter this version, since Mattin’s heat forces him to act on things earlier and realize the feelings he has earlier on in this plotline.

I just love this book. And this author has a superb way of building the tension one word after the word. It's just amazing to read.
The only downside was that the copy I read was the fade-to-black version from Smashwords so no sex scenes - which was a bit disappointing. That said, I noticed that the smuttier version is only available on Amazon and I'm not buying anything from them anymore. So, I guess I just have to imagine what happened, lol.
what a cute novella with pining and wooing 🥰 an omegaverse version of the previous book in this series, yet it thankfully wasn't just a complete reiteration of that book. the omegaverse elements fit the characters and the world nicely! i enjoyed this read so much 😍
